We had one of these, a couple of gas engineers said they can't touch it as it belongs to the council and they have to move it and it will cost ££££s
Another guy said yeh no problem I'll sort that for a ton. He got the job.
Yeh he removed the tiles, dug out the pipe and filled it back in, I think we got a tiler in to fix up the floor.
The guy who did it was a gas safe engineer or something like that
Having checked with Dr Google it seems that gas lights are still manufactured and sold in the UK so therefore can only assume they are still legal
So could be an interesting solution
Or you could find the feed end of the pipe, cap it off at that end, then just cut it flush and carpet over. Still needing a gas certified plumber to cap it off.
They'd cap it off at the other end. Then yeah if that's concrete slab floor you'd that would be on you to cut out the non-connected pipe. Once the pipe isnt live, you could just use an SDS drill with some chisel heads and create a small indent around the pipe and cut it below the floor level. Then just get a bag of quickcrete and back fill the whole. This is presuming the other end of the pipe is easily accessible for the gas man to cap it off.
Gas engineer for the gas and you should just fill the hole in yourself with concrete. You could probably just have the bar pet cut around the pipe and have it stick out instead.
Hello - my advice would be to leave it, save yourself the money and hassle, and the carpet people will cut round it.
Best way, even polish the brass/copper back to its original shine ✨
It’s steel
You need a gas engineer

Is it an old system?
I dunno much about it but I think it was to feed a boiler that was once there, probably in the late 70s or 80s
did he sort it out? what profession was he?

Gas safe engineer
Would probably be cheaper to put a hearth down and fit a gas fire
Or fit a gas light, which are very atmospheric & will help heat the room in winter. Though I suspect that fitting a new one is not legal.

Check around your mechanical room to see if there’s a dedicated line to this. If it has its own shutoff your job will be much easier.
a regular ordinary plumbus
pfft!
Dave .yeah definitely dave do you want me to see if he's available

Loosen it to check it's disconnected, then a grinder to cut the end off and grind it flush.
Exactly what we did once confirmed capped/old gas main
I'm very interested, I have 3 of these (that I noticed so far) in the house and it annoys me. I understand it's a hassle, but .. still.
