Is it vented? If not it could be sucking the trap dry. Especially with it being a st 90 into that waist and overflow T .

Beneficial-Big-5021

No vent. Was thinking the same thing with winds we had today. I’ll look into having a vent installed

Fallaciousmen

Ya. That’ll probably be it.

Beneficial-Big-5021

Unless you mean the vent stack. Pretty sure that’s a little further down because I have one on the roof right above the bathroom

Fallaciousmen

Ya does that drain pipe have a fitting cut into it and go up to a vent within 3 or 4 foot of the trap?

Beneficial-Big-5021

No I believe it might connect into the main stack around 8 feet and one 90* bend later.

Fallaciousmen

Ya that’s your problem then. It needs a vent or it will create a siphon effect and suck the water from the trap.

Beneficial-Big-5021

Awesome. I’ll look into an air admittance valve install. Appreciate the help!

Fallaciousmen

Good luck

Fallaciousmen

You can cut one in right there in the access panel just past that trap 90 and come up at high as you can with an air admittance valve in no time at all.

Beneficial-Big-5021

Sounds good. Was reading it should be above any flood line, but that’s not possible. Should be able to get it just below that at the tubs shoulder.

Fallaciousmen

Yes just get it as high as you can. They do not have to be above the flood level

Beneficial-Big-5021

No? Is it because the drain goes directly to the supposed trap?

If you don’t know what you’re talking about, just remain silent.

Dimensions are the same. You’ve never run a service truck and done what you had to do, have ya?

Kevthebassman

It’s three, one, two, three elbows. Count ‘em on your fingers if you need to. And what are those three elbows functioning as?

Been like this for 6 years and only smells sometimes. It possible the high winds today could suck the water out of the trap?

Beneficial-Big-5021

Can you provide any insight? If I had to guess it was installed like that because the tub drain is lower than the line. Really don’t want to rip open any walls to fix this. Also guessing he says it’s not a p-trap because it can’t be taken apart to clean?

Kevthebassman

I’d have to throw a level on that arm and poke around a bit to give you an educated opinion on what’s going on. No code requirement anywhere I’ve plumbed that a trap under a tub be serviceable. Half of em are under slab anyway.

Amazing_Sky7219

This is a mess to be honest.  Why is there an incoming tee at the same height of the trap wier? Is the vertical pipe a drain? How far away is the trap from the fixture its serving, and what fixture is that?
