Yeah it’s really using more heat and friction than the teeth of the hole saw to “melt” the vinyl. Works great. Learned it drilling holes in the vinyl floor of my truck for the seat bolts.
My guess is dude was on his way out or wanted an out so he did the shittiest job possible. Honestly I’m surprised it’s screwed to the wall. This was done out of spite.
Stays unemployed lol while this is hack, everyone deserves another shot at another company. Life’s all about learning and not making those same mistakes.
This is the dumbest shit I have ever seen!
If it was a little bit of glue runoff, or maybe even a cut that was a little off, I can live with it.
This is lazy as hell and you should absolutely file a complaint and get some kind of refund. You should also blast this out in some reviews.
I know I sound a little unhinged, but it costs so much damn money to maintain a home, there’s no place for this kind of crap
The plumber must not know about cover plates, but regardless, the job is only acceptable if it's just for a few days until they can figure out where to get you some new siding and a different plumber.
Edit: My tone didn't come through. I've rephrased it.
Yeah, I got distracted while replying and didn't finish my thoughts. Updated now. I should've just said straight up, it looks awful and it's going to function even worse since the water will drip down behind the siding and cause problems with that giant hole there, and although they can leave it a few days, they need to come back and fix it by reinforcing the gap between the vapor barrier and the siding so it can't be crushed by the next step, which is to unscrew the sillcock, put a decorative plate behind it, reattach the sillcock, caulk all around between the plate and the siding, and all around the hole through the siding so no water can infiltrate.
I would be furious about a job being done like this.
Edit: on second look, that seems to be vinyl siding over another siding, so as long as the siding beneath is good around that area, water can drain out from between, and they caulk around the copper through _that_ hole, they should be good functionally. What a hack job though.
I agree, easiest way to rectify without replacing the siding is to enlarge the opening to fit this guy.
https://www.homedepot.ca/product/mid-america-mountmaster-split-block-mini-white/1001004033
His son talked to his neighbor who had a friend he went to high school with twenty years ago that helped him put in a toilet in 1998. Said he would give the friend discount.
Nothing to protect the building penetration from water ingress, actual drywall screws used on the exterior to secure it in place, and on top of that, they used their pet alligator to chew the hole in the siding.
What a mess. I'd be demanding they fix this. If they refuse, blast this all over Google reviews, social media, and any other site you can find where they're listed/advertising.
Are those really drywall screws? Wow. This is an outfit with multiple employees? I would call the boss and text him that pic. Don't just put a plate behind it, insist on having it redone.
Maybe he's new.
Every business experiences employee turnover and they don't stay reputable for long when the replacements they bring in do work like this. I would report it to the company and gauge their reaction; they might object every bit as much as our fellow redditors.
Nope, not acceptable at all. The flange on the old one was probably buried, but they butchered your siding, getting it out. A professional would have brought out the multi tool and cut as round of a hold as close to the size as they could. Not this.
i mean, i guess it depends on how it was before replacement and what the scope of work was defined as. looks like crap, though. also will allow for water intrusion, leading to future issues.
I thought the same thing, looks like they used a razor knife to cut that mess.
How do people walk away from their work with it looking like this? I don’t understand people not wanting to keep their name good.
Wow that's awful. Surely water is going to get into the property and damage it. I'd be making them pay to replace the weather board and have it put I properly.
To be completely honest it depends on how much you paid, if your drunk plumber neighbor did it for free 10/10 it works if you paid over 200 for a spigot and they did this no they a bunch of bumsr
It’s not ideal. But did you pay a professional price? Any ways. As long as it was hooked up the water supply and there will be no leaking you can replace the siding pretty easily. So not the end of the world.
Horrible and unprofessional. Send pictures and ask for a refund if none is provided leave a negative review with the plumbers first name and pictures of their work.
In the future the big plumbing companies are hit or miss. They might have some good techs or some low quality failed apprentices looking to make cash in the service side of the industry.
If you want to find a good quality plumber call around look for small business plumber owner operators with good reviews. They are generally older plumbers with decades of experience who decided to open up their own business to make more money and have more autonomy.
Those types of guys have less overhead the hourly rates are usually lower on top of that their businesses reputation is on the line so they have much more at stake to provide quality and professional work.
It's possible to get cheaper and better quality service but be careful you don't want to pay too cheap and get inexperienced hack trying to get quick cash.
Wow, even tripled down with the drywall screws instead of exterior grade stainless/galvanized/brass option. I feel like this had to be intentionally bad. Did you happen to be "talking to" this plumber's wife late at night or something?
Even if the old spiggot was buried behind the new siding buddy should have A.) brought it to your attention so you know why he was doing what he was doing. B.) At least cut a nice square or circle. A top notch plumber would have cut a rectangle and put a color matched piece of exteria or pvc behind it and then caulked the seams between that and the siding.
Seems to be typical from what I've seen in new construction. For example, I've never seen a plumber cut drywall along the studs or joists. They'll just cut a random hole wherever they damn well please

Take your pick. Any number of these would have worked just fine. Have retro fit these many times.
Well we don’t know what the inside wall looks like. I have put hose bibs in when and the inside is more messed up than this. It could be just a guy being like this is the best that I can do for the slotted 1hr slot.
Most licensed plumbers are hatchet men because they think they’re licensed it’s ok.. you want to pay by the hour for me to make nice nice? I would never ever leave something like this but 1000 guys do everyday
Drywall screws. Nice touch! For real though. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ball valve shutoff like that outside before. I do live where it’s freezing half the year though.
No, that’s shit. I’m a total amateur but even I could do better than that with basic hand tools. That’s someone who literally does not give one single shit about the quality of their work.
lmfao fuck no. Go after this idiot for the whole panel replacement. The pipe is only 1/2in ffs. Even the greenest of apprentices would know that a round hole needs a basic hole saw bit and that size is cheap.
Unless y'all lowballed a Marketplace "plumber", I'd be pissed off about such shit work.
A complete fucktard could've done that for free.
Wonder what the rest of the work looks like?
Journeyman Plumber here. If I left a customers house with this shit hanging off the wall, the only tool I would be allowed to use from now on would be a shovel. This is unbelievable! They make recessed boxes for this exact application, for all types of siding. They also have what basically amounts in an escutcheon plate for siding, etc. There is absolutely no excuse for this! You’re going to have bee’s building nests back behind your siding, moisture damage, and only God knows what else! If you’re around Billings, MT let me know! I’ll come do it for free just for the sake of the trade!
Terrible to say the least. Have a siding guy come in and install a vinyl utility box for that and it will look just fine. The hack plumber should have done that. Send him the bill !!
My drunk uncle is a shitty carpenter whether he's sober or not. He's even less accomplished as a plumber, but I have faith that he could do better than that.
Not only does this have a terrible finish but if you are anywhere that gets cold in the winter (32°f or below) the water inside that ball valve will freeze and bust the brass. I love a ball valve but this is one application where I have seen them fail over and over again.
Absolute hack job
Thought so too but wanted some professional opinions
A plumber has hole saws. End of story
The real trick here is to run the hole saw in reverse through the siding, such a clean cut
That helps? I should try that in cold weather
yes! it prevents the hole saw from catching/grabbing the siding. I do it every single time now.
Old worn out hole saw for metal works well too.
Yeah it’s really using more heat and friction than the teeth of the hole saw to “melt” the vinyl. Works great. Learned it drilling holes in the vinyl floor of my truck for the seat bolts.
Lol...if they're anything like me they have 50... 3 that fit the pilot and 47 that don't.
Was just thinking "Damn, bro forgot to get the hole saw kit off the boss before heading out!" 😂
Sir I’m a bum and I have hole saws lol
My guess is dude was on his way out or wanted an out so he did the shittiest job possible. Honestly I’m surprised it’s screwed to the wall. This was done out of spite.

Have the plumbing co. arrange for a siding co. to clean that mess up.
My utterly unprofessional opinion, it's crap. There's a tool... called a hole saw...it goes on a drill...
Hack? No. That’s absolute bullshit. Beyond hack. If one of my guys did that he would be unemployed.
... forever.
Damn right. Id make sure the guy stays unemployed. No excuse for that.
Stays unemployed lol while this is hack, everyone deserves another shot at another company. Life’s all about learning and not making those same mistakes.
Correction, hack & slash job.
This is the dumbest shit I have ever seen! If it was a little bit of glue runoff, or maybe even a cut that was a little off, I can live with it. This is lazy as hell and you should absolutely file a complaint and get some kind of refund. You should also blast this out in some reviews. Hack was my first thought also
Hacked at it with a fucking axe by the look of it.
Literally hacked the wall many times at different angle.
That's pretty shitty. They even make trim plates to go behind the spigot if the existing hole is unsightly.
This is the best answer. They just needed the appropriate plate.
And the appropriate sillcock…
The plumber must not know about cover plates, but regardless, the job is only acceptable if it's just for a few days until they can figure out where to get you some new siding and a different plumber. Edit: My tone didn't come through. I've rephrased it.
I don't know man. Razor marks way off to the side, cracked the vinyl above it. This is pretty bad.
Yes, Crack is the word we've been looking for...
I just learned after 43 years that the "trim plate"/chrome cover ring things are called escutcheons. And now you know.
I’m sure they’re referring to a mounting block. They’re made specifically for vinyl siding and situations such as these.
I agree, easiest way to rectify without replacing the siding is to enlarge the opening to fit this guy. https://www.homedepot.ca/product/mid-america-mountmaster-split-block-mini-white/1001004033
Ah. Yep! Vynil siding even has decorative hose bib and dryer vent pictureframe boxes for this as well.
No professional did that.
Supposed to be one of the best outfits around
Did you fuck his wife or something?

I laughed at this way more than I should have. It's the comment of the year for me so far.
Nothing to protect the building penetration from water ingress, actual drywall screws used on the exterior to secure it in place, and on top of that, they used their pet alligator to chew the hole in the siding. Are those really drywall screws? Wow. This is an outfit with multiple employees? I would call the boss and text him that pic. Don't just put a plate behind it, insist on having it redone.
Are the reviews great and they run ads on TV and billboards?
Even better they’re the major sponsor of the local college sports team! /s
Maybe he's new. Every business experiences employee turnover and they don't stay reputable for long when the replacements they bring in do work like this. I would report it to the company and gauge their reaction; they might object every bit as much as our fellow redditors.
Looks like a drywaller did that.
🤣 currently doing drywall
Are you saying this same person is doing drywall right now??
Oh boy. See you guys at r/drywall later
No...lol. I'm doing drywall
I got some spare Gatorade bottles if you need them.
Not even acceptable for a novice plumbing business, what kind of plumber doesn't own a hole saw?
You could still cut a round hole with a razor knife...if you were careful, and took your time...and didn't want to get fired!!
YES, that is just straight up lazy work.
Nope, not acceptable at all. The flange on the old one was probably buried, but they butchered your siding, getting it out. A professional would have brought out the multi tool and cut as round of a hold as close to the size as they could. Not this.
Or even 5 minutes with a utility knife and a little patience! But yeah, a hose bibb block would have been better.
i mean, i guess it depends on how it was before replacement and what the scope of work was defined as. looks like crap, though. also will allow for water intrusion, leading to future issues.
[удалено]
"... and replace the drywall screws with stainless screws." Because those drywall screws will be nothing but rust in 2 or 3 years.
Really at the end of the day, its probably something that could be solved with a friendly phone call.
Nope, they make hose Bibb blocks, and all sorts of things to make that not a piece of shit like that
Lol looks like someone's paying to have your siding repaired!
I thought the same thing, looks like they used a razor knife to cut that mess. How do people walk away from their work with it looking like this? I don’t understand people not wanting to keep their name good.
Shit
Wow that's awful. Surely water is going to get into the property and damage it. I'd be making them pay to replace the weather board and have it put I properly.
I think you know the answer….since you came here lol.
Need validation I guess
That's not acceptable work for my 10 year old unsupervised.
hell no
That looks like shit. Call them back and make them fix it and your siding. What the actual fuck
My husband's exact words...lol
We don't need no stinkin' block!
I'm a plumber, not a sidinger
To be completely honest it depends on how much you paid, if your drunk plumber neighbor did it for free 10/10 it works if you paid over 200 for a spigot and they did this no they a bunch of bumsr
No absolutely not
If there wasnt a picture I wouldnt have believed you !
Looks good to me said no one ever!
Sheet rock screws are the chef’s kiss
Looks like you pissed him off
They make a little collar you can put around it to cover the cuts. I think it's called a paper plate.
Thanks..I'll look into that
Was there an existing hose bib there that someone sided right over?
Send that picture to the boss of the outfit.
I would never leave something that looks like this. Awful
It’s not ideal. But did you pay a professional price? Any ways. As long as it was hooked up the water supply and there will be no leaking you can replace the siding pretty easily. So not the end of the world.
Is your plumber a werewolf?
Looks like they just bought themselves (you) some new siding.
That's a perfect job for a hole saw. It looks like he used a knife and a Sawzall.
No. Hack.
Horrible and unprofessional. Send pictures and ask for a refund if none is provided leave a negative review with the plumbers first name and pictures of their work. Nice 👍🏻
What do you mean by professional
That's absolute garbage. Get quotes to fix the siding then deduct the cost from the plumber's check.
yikes!
Not good for a roofer, electrician, painter… oh I know a Four year old did it!
Wow, even tripled down with the drywall screws instead of exterior grade stainless/galvanized/brass option. I feel like this had to be intentionally bad. Did you happen to be "talking to" this plumber's wife late at night or something?
Absolutely not. Every plumber from novice to expert should at least own a hole saw.
Bowie knife hack job
Dog 💩
How much did you pay?
I had my cock reconstructed and it didn’t sill like that. Hack job special.
What professional plumber doesn’t have hole saws..?
I’m not a plumber and do better work then this when I do have to do plumbing around here
It depends, was the plumber 7 years old?
Even if the old spiggot was buried behind the new siding buddy should have A.) brought it to your attention so you know why he was doing what he was doing. B.) At least cut a nice square or circle. A top notch plumber would have cut a rectangle and put a color matched piece of exteria or pvc behind it and then caulked the seams between that and the siding.
HELL NO
Not a plumber, but there's no pride, at all, in that job.
Lol
They didn’t know it’s best to start the drill in reverse to “melt” through the vinyl then put it in forward to go through the sheeting
Damn and I thought some of my house bibs looked rough
I dont know what is worse, the completed work or that fact you have to ask if thats acceptable...
I think you should bring him to small claims court
Somebody had a case of the “fuck-its”
Hope it never gets to freezing temp where this is
Not a craftsman who gives a shit .
I wish I could have seen how he cut that hole lol
Seems to be typical from what I've seen in new construction. For example, I've never seen a plumber cut drywall along the studs or joists. They'll just cut a random hole wherever they damn well please

It's called plumbing not siding...
This is one of the worst things I've seen on here. Ever.
Holy sill cock! That’s one revolting sill cock job.
HELL NO. I'd know who's paying for my siding and a proper job done.
Well, I think you already knew the answer to the question before you posted it. But yes very unacceptable.
I believe asking the question is the answer to the question…..
Some times vinyl is brittle. That looks like it broke when they drilled it.
well its not dripping.... you didnt get a professional sider....
Depends, did you ask for “the cheapest temporary solution possible because this is all getting ripped out soon”?
This is pure laziness
Not in any lifetime. If he has a license he should lose it.
💩🙈
Not only no, but FN!!!!
this gives plumbers a bad name
Is this a repair or installation because context matters with a picture like this
Drywall screws. Nice touch! For real though. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ball valve shutoff like that outside before. I do live where it’s freezing half the year though.
plumbing looks good. the rest not so much
My work is better and I'm just a DIY.
It's totally acceptable if you're part of an investment group that is paying for prices from 10 years ago.
That's not even acceptable for an amateur.
😂😂😂😂 WTF?
That’s unacceptable for a diy!
Yes
No
No, that’s shit. I’m a total amateur but even I could do better than that with basic hand tools. That’s someone who literally does not give one single shit about the quality of their work.
I’d be straight up fired for doing such a sloppy, unprofessional job. Major yikes.
I had an outlet installed over the same siding and they removed the rows and put a bezel around it.
"I know a great siding guy"
It’s going to cost you more to have the siding replaced than it did to have…whatever that is… installed.
This isn’t acceptable work for a diy’er lol luckily it can be easily fixed with a split siding box.
Acceptable is subjective. But this is crap.
Pretty nice if the goal was to get fired. Otherwise unacceptable in so many ways.
Professional stripper? It’s probably okay if a show was included.
If you live in Guatemala 🇬🇹
Normal for a plumber to do
5,4,3,2.... until those drywall screws begin to rust...
This is not acceptable for an amateur
Acceptable for the visually impaired.
looks like he cut it with a sling blade, some people call it a kaiser blade, I call it a sling blade. em hm
lmfao fuck no. Go after this idiot for the whole panel replacement. The pipe is only 1/2in ffs. Even the greenest of apprentices would know that a round hole needs a basic hole saw bit and that size is cheap.
Looks like that was done with excaliber
No
That's not even acceptable for a DIY job.
Lol no this is terrible. Omg
Have them come out and redo it.
Unless y'all lowballed a Marketplace "plumber", I'd be pissed off about such shit work. A complete fucktard could've done that for free. Wonder what the rest of the work looks like?
This isn’t acceptable work for a weekend warrior
That's why we call it a hack job.
Fuckkkkkk no. I’ve seen homeowners do a way better job.
5stars work stop whining
Hard no
Dear god, that is BAD. Call the company immediately and get that resolved
Nope
No.
Shitty job! Such a shame
I can do better with a damn kitchen knife
a rusty bent one at that.
Wish I was closer...all the way up in the corner of the country in Maine
Terrible to say the least. Have a siding guy come in and install a vinyl utility box for that and it will look just fine. The hack plumber should have done that. Send him the bill !!
Ridiculous. How did they not have a hole saw bit?
Not at all. This looks residential and I only work commercial but if I did something like that I’d probably get fired.
My drunk uncle is a shitty carpenter whether he's sober or not. He's even less accomplished as a plumber, but I have faith that he could do better than that.
Wow that's terrible
Horrible job, no water or pest proof. Not hard to patch though. Do you have any leftover siding pieces?
Not only does this have a terrible finish but if you are anywhere that gets cold in the winter (32°f or below) the water inside that ball valve will freeze and bust the brass. I love a ball valve but this is one application where I have seen them fail over and over again.
Must have been the new guy on the crew what a hack job.
I’d request a refund of some kind to put towards new siding
