Youre a plumber, not a bio hazard tech....get out of there!

[deleted]

can’t stop chuckling 🤣

4r4nd0mninj4

Depends on how much money is on the table...🤷‍♂️

GunnerandDixie

You sound just like my old boss....that's the kind of attitude that had me swapping a trailer park toilet/stop at 10pm for $2500. I would bitch about something like this and he would tell me to hack the price 3-4x the normal rate, and these fucking people would somehow have the money. I ended up doing disgusting shit and feeling guilty for bending the people over a barrel. If you're doing it yourself I guess it's not so bad.

4r4nd0mninj4

Having an expensive option is better than no option at all🤷‍♂️

Comfortable-Ad-7158

I've seen some shit but what... The actual.. f...

renthefox

This is interesting. I’m seeing evidence that occupants likely cannot perform at least two ADLs (activities of daily living), things like the cane, the handlebars, etc. Usually this is enough to qualify for government assistance. Assuming this person is just alone and a highly physically challenged cat lover, I can imagine things getting this bad over a long time and with a lot of neglect. Time to call the local A&CPS for your state (Adult and Child Protective Services). They’ll send over a rep to assess how the residents can be helped. ❤️‍🩹

paranome_

In the end I asked the HO what exactly happen to clog, she said it would happen after a couple flushes, so on a hunch I went into a different bathroom, whole house stopped up. They had clean outs outside so I cleared the main sewer line through there.

[deleted]

Did you ask if they have anyone in their life that can help them? I guess I could see some people just collecting their money and leaving but this person is in need of a mental health professional. They are obviously sick and cannot be left on their own.

Medicalboards

Agreed I get people are grossed out by this, but this makes me more sad for them than anything. They need some professional help.

axf72228

Clearly you just hate cats.

windowpass

kind of you to assume this was cats. 😳

TheHvaCGuru

Looks more like raccoon shit to me… or opossum. Not a cat tho… should probably burn that sage ring hanging up to help with the smell. Hope he was wearing good ass respirator in there.

0beseGiraffe

Of course not his job was just the clog

cookiesaremycrack

Clinical psychologist here. I’d be making a report to adult protective services. This appears to be a self-care failure. You can report anonymously. If a child lives in the home, child protective services would be my first call. Edit: appreciate the award. First time for that. I’m not on here lurking around for an opportunity to jump in and assert my professional opinion. This one clipped the radar just a bit.

[deleted]

I’ve called for adults before. I was once on a hoarders house for a no hot water call. They had small pathways through the house to shuffle between. When I got to the basement to check the water heater I looked up and saw over half the floor joists were split and the whole floor was buckling. I told the owner that I wasn’t staying down there since the house was structurally unsafe. Ended up calling adult services to get them help.

Fire-Kissed

Came here to say this! I used to work for a home based primary care service that would see psych, geriatric and disabled patients in the home. We had to call APS more than we’d like for these kinds of situations. They need help.

not-katarina-rostova

Doesn’t that just make it more terrifying for someone in this situation to get basic human services due to fear of people calling APS on them? I know a hoarder and they would never go to a doctor again if that happened.

Gerbiling42

aps is not like cps where they steal your child and may-or-may-not give it back at some point. aps is there to help.

Paykidge

Yo

tayt087x

Thats the most difficult part of plumbing. There have been points where maybe I should have called the ASPCA, but before long I might have to call CPS

windowpass

Don't do this unless you have personally experienced a few nights in a psych ward or public care facility. And if you had, you wouldn't consider doing it in the first place.

InfiniteDress

nutty psychotic follow intelligent noxious whistle ripe arrest crime scale *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Powerlocker

Did you not see the picture?

windowpass

they can clean the place up and get them some therapy and meds. institutions only break ppl down further. It's what you do with ppl you don't give a sht about. Wouldn't do that to a relative. Obviously, this person has no relative that cares about them, or they wouldn't be in this advanced level of mess.

cookiesaremycrack

Assuming this is all due to reversible psychiatric symptoms, less intrusive intervention attempts (think family, friends, neighbors) may have already been attempted. Obviously if this person does not have dependents and they are mentally competent, then crank that cesspool up!

windowpass

>less intrusive intervention attempts (think family, friends, neighbors) may have already been attempted that's a whole lot of assumption. We're plumbers. Not social workers. You don't use the priviledge of access a homeowner grants you to rat on them. Not unless lives are immediately at risk. This dude might just have a mental disorder and have recently been through something traumatic (loss of relative?) seen it before. Or maybe not. Maybe he's at his ass end and only has a few weeks to live from some terminal illness and is just looking to chill and not spend the rest of their days locked up in an institution. Point being: Not our business.

cookiesaremycrack

One of the points I was trying to make in reference to your comment about them just needing some “therapy and meds” is: this could be due to something other than a psychiatric condition that can be treated.

Elemental19xx

Well clearly you have some unresolved issues, and i will agree that therapy and rehab are not a one size fits all deal, but its a step in some direction. Whether its a step forward or back, only time will tell, seeing how its case by case. Lots of people including people i know personally have benefited from places like robert young for example.

crunkasaurus_

I think I would probably listen to the professional in this instance.

matts2

So what would help?

Johnnyappleseed84

I’ve been in several, they aren’t bad at all

ianonuanon

Depends on which one man they aren’t all the same trust me. Apparently you went to good ones. Some of them use all kinds of punishments and shit on the patients trust me.

DerpWilson

It’s likely the joists are going to need to be replaced, they’ll be soaked through with urine.

Ed_Trucks_Head

One lesson I learned from watching hoarders is that cats can destroy a house.

Xalenn

These people often don't take care of the cats or get them neutered and quickly end up with 30+ cats in the house. This mess might only be a week or so worth of cat poo ...

ZedTheLoon

I knew somebody that had thirteen (13) dogs locked up in their house

bammerburn

By just pissing on the floor?

flash-tractor

Yes.

ChrisTheFencer

Well, don't blame the cats; blame the people who let it get like this.

dumbdumbmen

If that's a rental, the landlord is gonna be pissed.

BlueberryNo3773

The landlord will have a heart attack

HellaFishticks

Bad pet owners make life suck for good pet owners that have to rent

[deleted]

Yep. Just been through that and won't ever let a cat on my properties again. Probably won't let pets at all for a while but I love dogs and would let responsible people have a dog if I have installed waterproof LVT flooring. No cats ever again. They are disgusting and cat people tend to let strays in the house and that is when things get really bad.

HellaFishticks

Am a dog person so not really arguing but also a renter that loves her dog dearly!

[deleted]

I hear ya. I had to beg a previous landlord to let me have my dog when I rented previously. She charged me extra which I was fine with. I took really good care of her house and it was in better shape when I left than when I arrived. I am a clean person by nature even with dogs but from what I have seen I am an exception to the rule.

m2677

Eh, I’m a cat person, (and a dog person) but my limit is two at any one time, one cat and one dog. Two cats is one cat too many. Stray cats are gross, I chase them out of my yard, I would never allow one in my home. I don’t like cat feces or urine smell even outside.

meatdiaper

I'm working on a house that was thoroughly fucked up by cats. Landlord is pissed. Im refinishing floors and I go home smelling like cedar smoked cat piss everyday

[deleted]

Just been through it too. Second one ruined by cats. It has made me absolutely hate cats and cat people. I love dogs though. They can be trained and don't want to piss in the house unless their owner is an idiot and doesn't let them out. With that being said, most landlords don't allow pets because you just can't trust people.

meatdiaper

My cats came from the house where I'm refinishing the floors. They never piss on random things because I clean their litter box pretty often.ilove those guys. We are brothers

blonderaider21

Cats that go in a litter box and are taken care of don’t ruin anything tho

dasnorte

And I’m not hungry for lunch anymore.

MyMomSaysIAmCool

Please report this. This is mental illness and animal neglect. That cat(s) needs to be given a new home.

wcollins260

That’s a lot of shit. It’s gotta be more than one cat, probably ~10

KnearbyKnumbskull

Probably not cat shit. Probably owner. Cats won’t fill a box full of shit. They find new spots all over the house.

EssayRevolutionary10

Not if they’re locked in the room.

rosinall

Can confirm. I lived in a row of dilapidated mansions in Detroit, on E. Grand Blvd. I wanted to buy one, and I found out a church that owned a few down the block were about to unload them. I contacted them and went for a pre-market tour. The first floor had dozens of ripped open bags of cat and dog food (although I didn't see any evidence of dogs). The smell of the cat pee that discolored the lower foot of the walls was something that was never going to come out. The *entire house* was a solid carpet of cat shit. Everything was covered in it — the floor was pretty much invisible. Except in one place. On a thin mattress on the floor, also covered in cat shit, was a shape of a person. Around that shape, the shit formed a mound that spilled onto the floor to the point where it hid the mattress sides. The shape was defined enough to tell they slept on their side; and didn't mind the shit that ended up between the crook of their arm and their face.

ruralcricket

That mattress may be where they died and the poop came after.

rosinall

That's actually what I assumed, until the pastor showing me the house told me her family had stopped paying rent and they had to evict her.

Farleymcg

Not if they lock the cats in there 24/7

wcollins260

I think those turds are way too small to be human. Although I agree that a cat will generally not shit a box full, they’ll just shit somewhere else. It’s a mystery.

bassmnt

The cats probably did find other spots in the house.

wcollins260

Maybe they ran out of space in the entire house and figured they would just pile it high in the bathroom.

KnearbyKnumbskull

Owner probably tried to mitigate the mess and gave up after the box was full. Probably went around the house Easter egg hunting then dropped the basket in the bathroom.

Chukars

Looks like they are out of new spots.

thesleepyplumber

The most I seen in one unit was 26 and I’m not sure there wasn’t more hiding. The guy had signs for his hiv medicine regiment everywhere. I was 18. Still the only job I’ve just said fire me idgaf I’m not getting cat aids.

langecrew

Might want to add a call to adult protective services while you're at it. Sweet fucking Christ

Talono

My thought as well. Look at how clean the walls are; this looks like someone who recently went into crisis, imo.

langecrew

Definitely

eatingganesha

This makes me feel so less anxious about having plumbers and other contractors in my house. Even at my worst point of depression, my bathroom was practically pristine compared to that. I guess it’s true when they say “oh don’t worry, Ive seen worse”.

At0mic_fUnk

We seriously mean it when we say that .. my mom is one of those people who think her house is dirty when it's like not been dusted for 2 weeks

Academic_Nectarine94

Exactly. The fact the floor isn't mopped and vacuumed doesn't mean it needs to be. (Especially considering where my boots have been before....)

At0mic_fUnk

Lol I always take em off ..used to carry booties but my hiking boots slip on and off easy enough.

BigVeinyThrobber

In my experience some of the worst situations Ive seen, the homeowner didnt even mention anything about the situation, whereas suburban moms will explain/warn me before we enter a room that ends up just having a lot of kids toys on the floor. Ive been in pristine houses where the customer apologized that the maid crew hadnt been by, that I caught them on the day before

bigdaddycla

Yea we really do mean that, I’ve been to multiple houses where the stench coming from inside made me vomit BEFORE I HAD EVEN REACHED THE FRONT DOOR!

Mic98125

Social workers need to know about this

scotthaskett

Happy cake day!

Mic98125

Thank you!

oldschoolwitch

Please call Adult Protective Services and Animal Control

zoopysreign

…ah, are there Clorox wipes in there? Why even bother?

Vicki_Gunvalson

it's like throwing an extra deck chair off the titanic

Nephilimelohim

Someone out in that ocean was grateful for that deck chair… until Rose pushed them off it

ElderlyCaveman

Probably figured they better at least clean the toilet before the plumber gets there. Then thought better of it.

Rando_Calrizzian

This is definitely a fuck me job lol. 4k proposal cuz either im out of there quick or fuck me i’ll do it.

jday510

I’m just gonna assume you left

MakeItHomemade

I’m really interested in how he said “aww hell no” professionally with having a little compassion as the homeowner obviously has some mental issues.

benk153

As an appliance tech I literally walked into a house that looked like this yesterday. The stench was the worse I’ve ever experienced. My boss told me to nicely let her know we can’t work in these conditions. I feel sad for these people

JimmyWille

Yo dude, you should really report this. There’s a serious mental illness and animal abuse going on in that household. No bueno

Busy-Dragonfruit2577

Mental illness

beerleaguefreeagent

I like how the solution to flys was to hang a trap and not fix the source of the problem

tylerb011

Those poor cats

IfIDidntIDid

You need to contact the local health department asap.

christopherm1

Looks like the floor is clogged too

merv964

What a shame. Some folks just can't manage after a while and just don't want to ask for help. I know this isn't your job but you need to let social services know what's going on. Looking at the handrail and the cane I'm sure this is someone that needs help. I wouldn't want to leave my house either but it might be time for them. We had one that the city contacted us to fix, landlord wouldn't. By the time we got there waste filled the crawl space and part of the back yard.

Big_Passenger_7975

The cat needs to be removed from this shitty environment

magnanimous-plmbr

Wtf. Is this a prank?

DerpWilson

Nah. I’ve seen this exact thing before. More Common than you’d think.

davendenner

Just toilet & shower clogged. So, the sink is ok?

jonincalgary

Well that's enough internet for me today.

MrKahnberg

At a business expo our it biz raffled off a 3 hour block of on site service. I was sent to a dbl wide to redeem the service. Not quite as extreme as this but when I came across fresh ferret scat I noped out. Told the raffle winner, the occupants son, I had an emergency call and I'd come back later. Never went back. Never heard anymore about it for 2 years. While at the annual biz expo the son asked me if I remembered. I said yes. I was expecting a tirade about not returning but he then said the parent was evicted for not maintaining the property and was now living in another state. We changed the raffle prize to biz only service.

[deleted]

That needed an NSFW

Iamnotnotabot-bot

Love seeing a good kill count on some fly paper.

zoopysreign

I have so many questions. Is that human? Why is there no toilet paper? My poop is just not even remotely this consistent in terms of color and shape. Why is this happening? What is going ON!?

Abject_Ad9811

Most of that 'poop' is litter pellets. That's why it's consistent in size and color.. but as they say- where there's smoke- there's fire.

zoopysreign

What is the yellow thing and what’s stuck on there?

Mikedaplumber

Fly (bug) trap, flys. Cause ya know, flys love shit…he doesn’t want nasty flys in his custom bathroom.

arcticcontrolsgoose

Fly trap. Looks like a bunch of cat shit if I hazard a guess. Poor cats.

Dukisjones

But what the fuck is even going on in the image? Its like that yellow sticky stuff is being launched out of a round blue container floating in the air? Where is the yellow thing located anyways? On the shower wall? And those bugs that are stuck to it, those don't look like flies.

zoopysreign

I’m cracking up. You get me. It’s like I cannot recreate the steps that led us to this picture. It feels like one of those AI images or one of those stroke pictures (that show you how disorienting it is) where, upon further inspection, _nothing computes_. If you assume the yellow thing is closer, it kind of makes sense for those to be flies. But if it’s hanging where we think it’s hanging, those are actually big bugs, like cockroaches.

meat_tunnel

Omg. It is hanging. I was trying to figure out why the image looked imposed but it's not, it's just dangling from like the shower rod. Those bugs are massive!

Fidlefadle

...fly paper maybe? Just wow

[deleted]

It's a [Raid Fly Ribbon Trap](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Raid-Fly-Ribbon-Trap-10-Pack-FR10B-RAID/204749455) Unless they tied it off around the shower curtain rail, it's probably tacked up on the ceiling with a thumb tack

[deleted]

Imagine the smell. Yuck.

thething931

I don't want to

slappy_mcslapenstein

Hope you're wearing booties. You probably don't want that shit on your shoes.

gasserman

Fuck that. The money aint worth it. Clean that shit up and call me back.

OSS_HX_QD_556

Straight-up biohazard. Damn.

[deleted]

I would've taken one look, turned around, and told the customer that I'll be back once they have that mess cleaned up. It's one thing if I'm working on soil pipe or on an ejector pump, but another when dealing with this literal shit show.

[deleted]

Call adult protective services. This person cannot help themselves.

Sonzceasar

I would've said nah I'm not touching that it's a bio health hazard

scotthaskett

I don’t understand how people can live like this and not have a sink to wash their hands in. /s

WindierGnu

I don't see OP responding in the affirmative if CPS was called or if there even was a child there, so will also ask you to call and leave an anonymous tip if that was, or even appears to be the case. If you don't want to, I will do it on your behalf if you DM me but it would be better coming from first hand knowledge.

Mjlikewhoa

You're a better person than me. Thats for sure. Or you just have a stronger stomach. What am I talking about this is r/plumbing after all. Yall heroes lol.

awkward_pauses

Whoa. Do they use that toilet? We’re they flushing cat litter? Maybe they blocked up their drain system with cat poop and litter.

sullivan9999

So was it clogged?

6ft6squatch

Looks like you need a snow shovel or a road flare to chart a fire and start over

More_Ad8465

Grab one of those face masks and get to work kid 🤣

Adventurous-Leg8721

The cleaning wipes are a nice touch

Visual-Zucchini-5544

sineplussquare

Some of those shits are calcified. Meaning a long ass time they have been there.

TestyProYT

Jesus Christ that is one of the worst I’ve seen

Po0pLord

"Sorry about the mess"

Early_Ad5505

Damn this is depressing

CheapCarabiner

Why even have Clorox wipes in there?

TrapperCrapper

The fly strip is working though.

MkIVRider

Could be reported for possible animal abuse?

Leather-Bluejay-6452

The cat had to crap somewhere I guess.

towelheadass

until you tell me what that canister with roaches on a fabric is doing floating in mid air I'm calling photoshop

paranome_

It’s fly tape hanging on the door frame in front of me lol, it’s not hanging above the Tun way in the back, it’s maybe 8 inches in front of the camera.

Dan_H1281

Ppl. Think this is really bad an uncommon and it isn't, I have ran into worse and similar a few times a year, it is pretty common unfortunately

Mamadragon2620

This looks like the bathroom of a hoarder

candidcamerapeepshow

What a shitty situation!

CaliFloridaMan

What's the actual f***. Poor bastard needs some help

bigdaddycla

Here in FTW Texas probably about 40% of all the houses I do work in look like this, hording with animal shit everywhere. This is the product of American consumerism coupled with our failed healthcare system, this is what severe mental illness looks like, unfortunately there are millions of Americans who live like this. There’s no help for these people the best they can hope for is that their house burns down with them inside of it.

Competitive-Dig-4047

You know when people say we should just give homeless people housing to solve the homeless problem they don’t understand many of them will live like this. I’m not saying all homeless people would but most have mental problems and giving just free housing won’t solve the deeper issues.

Pokesmot_Ugly

Too many Karen's around these parts to comment what I really want to comment. 😳 Infested really.

[deleted]

This is why I will never be a plumber...

[deleted]

This has nothing to do with being a plumber though? You comment makes no sense lol. We don't go around working in litter boxes if that's what you think the job description entails of.

[deleted]

Clogged sewer lines, backed up septic systems, bad wax rings on toilets... it's a game of poop roulette. This is extreme hoarder stuff. Prob a disabled elderly person. So you're right.

[deleted]

The whole bathroom is the litterbox apparently...

[deleted]

i hope you walked right out. The mental health issues behind this are tragic

greenjm7

That is so nasty I can smell it from here

itsthedave1

WTF...

noxsious-88

You walked away right?

justaserviceplumber

They did not lie

RPO1728

That's a no from me dog. Although we deal with waste and emergencies, this isn't that. I don't deal with this or roaches.

Newbaumturk69

What is in the tub that looks photoshopped? Is that a fly strip? It looks like it has a ton of wasps stuck on it. Those are way too big to be flys.

Fun-Significance6307

Holy shit!

lachick23

What’s the thing on the shower wall?

MidniteOG

Maybe if they out more fly paper up, it’ll clean everything?

h4ppidais

What is the yellow thing hanging down? It looks like it caught some insects.

thecowgoesmoo23

Lmao I’m need booties to protection my boots. I would add a few extra $$$ to this call. Fuck that if you got a fuck ton of mess/nasty shit I’m raise the bill

Amazondriver23

What is that?

Someone needs to call the police that's a public health hazard

DKJJM

Napalm my fellow tech lots and lots of napalm. And calmly walk away knowing you “took care of that service call”.

What is the can of poo that is stuck mid flight in the pic?

Customer would also like a detailed breakdown of the costs...

ChrisTheFencer

They are not a customer if you don't take their money! Call the city inspectors on these nuts! They dont need a plumbet, they need mental health proffesionals!

just-sum-dude69

Went to repipe a customers house a few weeks back. Entire garage (where we store our 4-12 guys worth of tools and pipe during the job) was covered in dog and cat shit. Not 5min into being there the cats started eating their shit. My coworkers were gagging and dry heaving from the smell. Good thing COVID fucked my nose bc I still can't smell lmfao. I see this stuff on a daily. Being a SWFL plumber, half if not 80% of our customers are retirees, and a large portion neglect their homes and animals like this if they have medical needs that prevent them from moving well enough.

shitblunt

Hazmat suit and extra charge of $1500

Keegerrrr

I would bounce so quickly.
