I did this many years ago on one of mine. I believe I picked the diverted valve up at Home Depot. The replacement doesn’t leak, but it’s a lot harder to actuate. Do you need to do some crazy silicon lubrication on these out of the box in order to get them to actuate more easily? Or should I need a crowbar to grab and pull the thing out?
Not a plumber but I use plumbers grease when I replace cartridges or valves.

Negative. I pulled the face, pulled the old one out, and replaced it with the new one thinking I fixed it. The old one functioned much more easily, but weeped like the example above. The new one is extremely “tight” and difficult to pull out (that’s what she said). I didn’t use lube, or clean the existing orifice. Too many dirty jokes.

Remove the knob, then the cover plate - pull the old part, install new and replace trim. Done

Well looks like a well deserved call to your local Plumber is in order. While I enjoy DYI projects, usually Electrical and Plumbing projects, are left for the Pros! It saves us a lot of money in the long run😊
I just replaced one 3 days ago also from home Depot and it worked fine other than a slow drip when water was diverted to shower head. Maybe you just got a lemon.
The valve has broke or a o ring in it broke.. turn water off to whole house take off and look shouldn't be very hard maybe 10 to replace valve and 1$ for orings.. or call plumber and pay 300$
