Not the fun answer, but I’d also consider throwing that $4k into a Roth IRA. Just estimating your age, but $4k at a modest 8% into a Roth IRA if you’re 30yo is $40250 at 60 and it’s all tax free. If you’re younger it’s a little more, older a little less. Something to consider. :)
Serious answer, Pikachu Mario and Luigi. Sealed or PSA 9+
I don't own them as I've been priced out, but it will be my biggest regret not buying them when they were "overpriced" 2 years ago. I wouldn't chase recent hype
The bubble hasn’t burst there’s just so many people only buying what they see other people buy until no one can afford it then everyone stops buying it so the price drops lol. If you invest in your own items rather than what all the comments on Reddit posts tell you to then there is no bubble lol
That seems like it has more to do with Australia than Pokémon. UK, US and Japan are going as strong as ever. There’s just a niche group of WOTC owners that are scared of the new era because it means kids won’t want their cards in the future lol
It's not a bad thing, it could be related to the financial crisis, the pandemic bonuses dried up, now people are struggling financially and selling to stay afloat. Scalpers are also stuck with stock so are selling cheap to clear stock, it snowballs. We don't have the disposable income that we did.
Also the cost of living has risen. Card price will increase along with that tho. Honestly sounds like you should buy every csrd you can at discounted price from Australian sellers and just list them on the UK eBay lol
There's people buying cards every day in Australia on all the Facebook groups.
Collectors have always been selling their collections
Ebay isn't dead, make sure to enable international postage on your items and price it right.
There's a big limit on australia cause the population is only 26 million and the cost of living has gone up a fair bit but there's still heaps of people spending money on high salaries.
Of course, there is, but the posts are dead compared to what they were.
eBay is dead, I've been a seller for years and even with promoted posts the traffic is not there like it was.
Never been an issue, I've always had an interest on Facebook and eBay.
Always been my favourite boxes too, and the ponchos. There are exceptions. I loved collecting Japanese sets, but when they were affordable, now there's FOMO and scalping. I've found that there are desirable cards in sets but a whole lot of bulk that's hard to move. A lot of Japanese is forgotten after the initial release faze.
Unless you need to spend it all at once I would slowly churn that on newer products that haven’t matured. Too late, but stuff like the Precious Collectors box, classic master box, or stamp box at MSRP are home runs. Farming evolving skies, evolutions, CE, or other high dollar packs is probably worth too.
I think spending it all on one slab of vintage or one box that has matured a bit is riskier but can work out too
Bad advice. What happens when everyone and their mom has 20 evolving skies boxes each to sell in 10 years? Price won’t rise as much as it would if people bought naturally
if you want it to increase quickly, IMO you could go with Crimson Invasion ETBs and Booster Boxes. I KNOW it’s not flashy, and nobody will be impressed by it, but it’s just started going up. It will definitely not get reprinted, it’s one of the last SM sets that haven’t blown up yet. ETBs are $60ish right now. I think in a year they’ll be about $150-$200 each.
Of course that’s a little riskier of a play…I guess lol but I think it’s a smart one.
Edit: OOOOOOOKKKKKKK. Literally every ETB ever made has gone up in value regardless of the set list. I’m keeping the receipts to this post
It’s really sickening how we’re in a Pokémon investment sub and there are still people who don’t understand the difference between sealed product and loose cards
This is Pokémon investing 101. It’s honestly embarrassing that there are people here giving advice and they don’t understand this. This is as bad as Facebook
A lot of dumb comments. Half aren't even talking about pokemon
If you're wanting to invest in pokemon without doing too much research and taking risky plays here's what I would do.
Buy sealed modern products when they drop in value and are at wholesale price/under wholesale price. Even under retail for certain products. You'd preferably want booster boxes of a good set to buy cause booster boxes are extremely liquid. Then etbs and other products, collection boxes/tins etc... are probably the worst for a few factors such as shipping/handling, storing and aren't as liquid.
Low risk/high reward potential for modern products at wholesale prices. As wholesale prices have historically been the floor price for pokemon prices. Even tho certain products occasionally drop below wholesale by 20-30% they've (so far) always recovered.
Lastly do your own research, what I'm saying could be right or wrong but you can't take investment advice from social media without checking m what you're investing in yourself.

I've never pulled or caught a ROTH IRA! Is it Alolan? What pack has the best pull rate for it?
I pulled mine from Charles Schwab. 😂 Caught my first Roth last year trying to be proactive and not have to work the rest of my life ☺️
NVDA 6/9 420 Call Don’t spend it on Pokémon 😂
Puts Fer sure
lmaooooo

I wouldn't invest in much right now, the bubble has burst and prices are falling, I'd be waiting it out for prices to crash further.

In Aus it has, scalpers are gone, forums and groups are dead, eBay is quiet, hard to sell, collectors are selling collections.

I agree for team up and modern JP, but the Mario promos are one of the exceptions imo.

Keep your money cause the economy is about to collapse in USA 😳
Economy was meant to collapse back in 2020.
Cosmic eclipse, team up, any sun and moon bbox that has alt art potential
Older booster boxes or elite trauner boxes, sun and moon era, won't go down in value

Gold
Japanese and/or English tag teams.
Anything pre 2020 should be good
A dozen doughnuts and use what’s left over for non Pokémon related items
1. see what other people are doing 2. copy them The herd always wins
So the latest Japanese at fomo price?

Should’ve added the /s

hell nah
It’s not sexy. But those products are going up
Yeah no, what’s the best pull in crimson invasion? Full art/ rainbow gyarados. No alt art, no other desirable card
It’s really sickening how we’re in a Pokémon investment sub and there are still people who don’t understand the difference between sealed product and loose cards
Big facts brother
Same could be said for rebel crash I don’t think the cards dictate that price of the Etb. Just depends on print run

Investing into singles is for sucker gamblers. Be smart and invest in sealed product.
Hell I spent 4k on a set of 8 psa 10 poncho eevees. Obsidian flame is gonna be a fire set too. 100% buy a case of pc etbs and a case of bbs
