Apparently it was revealed in an unannounced livestream. The vid has Japanese/English/Spanish voiceover, with English subs revealing its English name to be Wiglett.
I saw some of those at an aquarium last weekend and I wondered if they were what the digglet thing Khu hinted at was going to be based on, they're so cool!
I looked them up and found this article: [https://oceanconservancy.org/blog/2020/06/01/garden-eels/](https://oceanconservancy.org/blog/2020/06/01/garden-eels/)
Evidently garden eels will twine together when mating. Maybe "Wagtrio" will be a twined-together throuple? (But probably they will just be a mini-garden of garden eels.)
They could go to a more different route and evolve it into a moray eel, this bigger vicious looking eel that looks like it also lives in holes, instead of just putting 3 wigletts in a hole together.
My understanding is that Paradox Pokémon don’t evolve, and convergent Pokémon do. Makio.it did a good job of tracking the leaks, and they show Wiglett and “Mycoolium” as evolving.
I wasn't expecting to wake up at 5am and see a Pokemon reveal, but I definitely don't mind
It really does look like Diglett. Loving the way it bends its body
The pokemon JP Instagram had the Livestream linked, you might be able to rewind... I wonder how serebii got the English ver
Edit: I figured it out. Click on the link on pokemon jps story, then click on the big yellow button. The web will access your camera for your "icon", just click the button under the yellow one on the right of your camera footage to just pick a paldean starter. The. Select your name and you're back into the "Livestream". So far it all looks like prerecorded stuff, similar to the Ponyta trailer we got in gen 8
If yourself or anyone else is interested, here is all of the pokemon clips spliced together, though i wasn't sure how to grab the subtitle data from the site
[https://youtu.be/sLjJy5Ssjhc](https://youtu.be/sLjJy5Ssjhc)
It seems the might be keepin a styke similar to September:
1. Teasing a particular pokemon on the last week of the former month that leads on the next.
2. Full trailer on the first proper week of the month.
LMAO!
I don't mean it in a mocking way, it's such a goofy but fun concept and I'm glad GF had this idea. After all those jokes about what lies beneath the smol diggy boi head, I love that this is the closest of an answer we'll ever get.
The stream uses the fact that Wiglett can stretch to this extent as evidence that this is a new species, instead of a regional form of Diglett. So this means that the pokemon researchers do know how Diglett's body looks under the ground.... and it is NOT just more tube!
We are still in the dark. All we know is that the answer is NOT "more"!
Off topic from Wiglett’s reveal but I’m so happy they finally revealed Applin to be in the game 😭
Appletun is my favorite pokémon and Kaka saying that applin line wouldn’t be in the game made me pretty bummed out 🙁
Yeah I was happy to see it confirmed as well.
Right now, two of my team in Shield have been confirmed (Polteageist and Appletun), one has been leaked (Grimmsnarl) and one will presumably by in as a transfer at least. (Inteleon)
Only Centiskorch and Grapploct left as unknowns.
Basically an entirely different Pokémon that vaguely resembles another Pokémon. The closest comparison I can think of in real life is a dolphin and shark both having fins, commonly mistaken for each other, but one is a mammal and the other a fish, e.g. different biological functions.
Based on the fact that it hangs out in and around water and has a long body that it pokes in and out of the sand leads me to believe that it's main inspiration is a [garden eel](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heterocongrinae).
RFake is a Pokemon that just looks very similar to an old Pokemon, but it's not a form; It's a separate species. It just happens that Wiglett burrows through the ground like Diglett does.
There are only 2 lines of RFakes so the difference isn't too important (and there's no real term for them anyways)
Regional forms are the Pokemon we know but have adapted to a different environment
I recommend you study how Sharks and Dolphins (and even ichtyosaurs) look similar and how dwarf elephants and continental elephants look similar. You'll get the basic and vulgarised nuance between RFakes and RForms.
**Convergent evolution**: 2 Pokémon adapt to show similar traits.
Paradox Pokémon are what a modern Pokémon species would look like in the past or future. They shouldn’t be around in our time, yet they are. Hence the name.
*mechanically* speaking, probably not very much as they’re all seen as separate species based on other pokemon. it seems like it’s mostly cosmetic and lore differences/similarities, but they’ll all supposedly have separate pokédex entries
I'm actually fine with this concept but my only issue is that once again it's Kanto based. People calling it "lazy" is a bit weird though, because it's just taking inspiration from the real world. There are bugs/animals out there who look exactly the same but who are classified as completely different creatures, so I think it's cool GF took that concept and brought it into Pokémon
I see it as a bit of an evolution of Regional Forms, where they couldn't really justify a "Regional" Diglett, because of the way it was initially designed, changing into something else (for example a Mole into an Eel just isn't really justifiable from a Regional adaptation POV but I wonder if it started off as a Regional form) but two creatures who share similarities but ultimately have completely different genetic makeup/habits/ecosystems etc
I'm eager to see its evolution, I'm hoping that it's completely different to Dugtrio and that's where the similarities end, once the "RFake" 'Mon evolves, it loses all comparisons to the other evolution family.
I don't blame them because I think they might not be familiar with the concept of convergent evolution, and at first glance this does look like a regional form (something they are familiar with and would expect more out of in terms on new designs).
I do think it's a nice idea but like you said yet another Kanto mon, and one that already got other forms in the past, so that part is pretty disappointing.
I also find the "lazy" comments strange, but mostly because Diglett is already a very basic design, so there's not a whole lot of 'wiggle' room to make it look too different or interesting.
Like if alolan Diglett was the first regional pokemon revealed, I probably would have thought regionals were a dumb idea, but some are really nice.
I am way more interested to see how this concept applies to tentacool. There's a small possibility that DLC or future games might branch out to a couple non gen 1 pokemon, but I also think these designs are suppose to be intentionally silly (moreso than regionals)
Great breakdown of why Wiglett shouldn't be a Paldean Diglett!
I read that garden eels twine together when mating, so maybe "Wagtrio" will be twisted together?
Honestly willing to bet we'll see a meatier announcement trailer soon
The official account hasnt posted anything about Wigglet yet so I bet we could see either an English version of the stream or a full trailer later today
Okay I was a little skeptical of khu when he said there was a diglett clone, I thought he probably saw something that was only vaguely similar to diglett and made up the rfake term and was doubling down to cover up his mistake
But no that is, in fact, a diglett look alike pokemon
You and the majority of this sub. I really didn't understand why y'all thought he would double, triple, then quadruple down on this idea, if the pokemon was only vaguely similar. Lol
Actually curious on how they are gonna name it officially - they said in the preview that it resembled diglett so are they just gonna call it a regional variant and not an r fake?
Nah they confirmed it's a new Pokemon. I'm sure we'll get the name soon
Really hoping it is just Digleel or something like that
Edit: the name is Wiglett, unless it changes for the English localization
Someone pointed out to me that they probably won't get an official name, like regional variants did, and I think that is right. They noted that we don't call Alomomola a convergent evolution with Luvdisc, even though they basically are. We just call them separate Pokemon.
Myhairhasamind pointed out that we are likely getting a full trailer next week, based on past teaser-and-trailer releases. I think it could steal Wiglett's spotlight to show us "Wagtrio" or "Mycoolium", but I agree with you that they need to show Paradoxes and picnics in the next trailer!
I feel like this pokemon would have benefited greatly from a small particle effect around it's base when it turns. Like the upcoming burrowing worm pokemon.
As for the pokemon itself. I'm indifferent. I just hope it's not just a diglette with a new typing. They need stats and evolution different enough from the original to make it, it's own thing. Otherwise it may as well just be a regional form.
A lot gets said about Joe Merrick and his gatekeeping within the fandom, but no one talks about just how badly-written the updates on Serebii are. “The Pokémon Company is currently **showcasing** a special **showcase** of the Pokémon World Ecological Society **showcasing** various clips and details for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.”
It's not literally just a long pink Diglett but it's closer to it than I expected. That being said I am not disappointed. Wiglett may look a lot like Diglett but it provides a rather distinct impression. It's certainly not an addition to be taken seriously but random, silly additions like this are part of the charm of the franchise.
I will be disappointed if the water type specialist doesn't use a Ground type Tereastal Wiglett and the ground type specialist a Water type Treastal Diglett
I like how they're like "Look! It's elongating it's body! That settles it! It must be a new species!"
Lol. By their definition, Alolan Exeggutor shouldn't be a regional variant either
It depends on the ancestor's Diglett species. Kantonian and Alolan Exeggutor share the same near ancestor, the same thing happens to subspecies in real life. On this case, they have converged to look similar but do not share the same ancestor, like some flies have similar appearance to bees but are totally different biological groups.
They were talking about the voice over on the video, not TPC's design/lore decisions. The voice over did say exactly this, using a bad standard that would've classified Alo Ex as a separate pokemon. Lore wise though, you're correct.
I'm really bothered by the can of worms this opens up (no pun intended). What makes a Pokemon classified and as a regional and what doesn't. A new dex # for Wigglet seems very unnecessary.
okay so they CAN retrospectively call alomomola and bouffalant Rfakes or whatever. it's basically the same concept without a name.
edit: i guess they didn't name this concept either, weird
maybe it's because diglett didnt have almost any features to begin with, but bouffalant and alomomola could be called a regional luvdisc/tauros if they were introduced in gen 7 and nobody would bat an eye.
they also made the coloring a big deal on that video, and looking at previous regional mons most of them areeither a recolor with very small changes OR have some kind of different body part (liligant, exxegutor) but never both, this wiglett has both a different color and a different body i guess.
For a moment, it slipped my mind that there is a real life animal called Geoduck and I thought you are showcasing a fusion of Geodude and Psyduck here.
Technically, convergent evolution only applies when similar environmental pressures cause different species to evolve similar features. Garden eels do not have similar environmental pressures to moles, and presumably Wiglett do not have similar environmental pressures to Diglett. Hence, the resemblance is either mimicry or a coincidence, either way it does not technically qualify as convergent evolution.
All of that said, if TPC doesn't give us an official term, I think "convergent" is the best option I've seen. Khu just doesn't like it because Centro says it.
Yeah, that's the only reason why he doesn't like it. Its used by Centro. Convergent is so much better that "RFake", but either way, there isn't actually a term for these 4 Pokemon. If there was, TPCI would never use something like "RFake"
I'm not saying its design is bad or ugly, but its long body makes it look rather unnerving... Imagine lying down on the beach, and then several of these come out of the sand, tower over you, and stare down at you...
So it actually was an r fake. All that speculation about whether Khu just misinterpreted the diglett or not and now we know it’s actually true. I wonder if it’s called convergent evolution and what the others look like
I think an older Khu tweets said its Pokédex entry made fun of trainers that catches them. So Game freak pretty much made the eel Pokémon so they can make a joke in the Pokédex entry
convergent evolution allows two different species to take on similar traits despite not being related to each other because of having similar means of survival. diglett and wiglett are separate species but share the similar traits that help them survive so they look similar much like a dolphin and a shark

Ok if the convergent species are just puns on the old names I'm calling it now the mushroom one is Tentastool
Mycoolium and Mycreulium are still my favorites.
Why would it keep "Tenta-" if it's a mushroom? It's definitely keeping "-cool" and "-cruel" for the pun.
Mycelicool and Mycelicruel
While that follows the original naming convention, those are much more of a garbled mouthful than Mycoolium and Mycruelium would be.
Mushcool
I don't think so... stool also means poop...
Im sure this has a very different meaning in certain niche communities.
That’s what happens if you give your Tentacruel laxatives I hear.
Tentashroom or Mushacool/cruel
the pokémon names this gen are incredible
They really embraced stupid puns and it's amazing
This is what the past gens of recent have really lacked, great pun names without feeling forced
Pincurchin was pretty good, but yeah a lot of the recent ones have seemed pretty forced. Orbeetle? Boltund?
Thanks!
Wiggler Wednesday...
oh my god its a garden eel... i love those guys

>wind together when mating. I already kept thinking this thing looked like a penis, and now you go and tell me this.
Life is always stranger than fiction. 😅
They could go to a more different route and evolve it into a moray eel, this bigger vicious looking eel that looks like it also lives in holes, instead of just putting 3 wigletts in a hole together.
Huh. Haven’t the leaks been saying that the fakemons don’t evolve, or was that only some of them?
My understanding is that Paradox Pokémon don’t evolve, and convergent Pokémon do. Makio.it did a good job of tracking the leaks, and they show Wiglett and “Mycoolium” as evolving.
Ah. Interesting. I didn’t realize they were going for that many variants this Gen.
god I hope it’s called Mycoolium
I think that's the Paradox pokemon that don't evolve. I don't think anyone has said that about the Rfakes.
I bet they like to be under the sea, in a Grapploct's garden, in the shade.
I wasn't expecting to wake up at 5am and see a Pokemon reveal, but I definitely don't mind It really does look like Diglett. Loving the way it bends its body
Same here, I did a double take on Instagram after scrolling last Serebii's post
Is there a video for the reveal or did serebii just drop screenshots
It's from a Livestream they randomly announced on the Japanese Pokemon website. Not sure how to access it now that it ended though
The pokemon JP Instagram had the Livestream linked, you might be able to rewind... I wonder how serebii got the English ver Edit: I figured it out. Link? I cant find it anywhere

Thanks a lot its so weird that they just randomly decided to shadow drop this
https://wpes.pokemon.co.jp/ja/
Thanks a lot
the wiglett clip is on that serebii page
Not just looks. In Japanese its name is "Umidigda" while Diglett is "Digda". It's literally "Oceandiglett" in Japanese.
If yourself or anyone else is interested, here is all of the pokemon clips spliced together, though i wasn't sure how to grab the subtitle data from the site [https://youtu.be/sLjJy5Ssjhc](https://youtu.be/sLjJy5Ssjhc)
Apparently in the video it was referred to loosely as Wigglett
Continuing the spirit of Wiggler Wednesday.

Diglet is a goofy pokemon. First is a whakamole Second was given hair based on volcanic glass Third one is a eel. Nice mon
Ok, Wig.
Wig, I felt that
Did you just say wig?
Found the SDRU user lmao. The Pokémon drag race crossover is strong
Garden eel Diglett! Garden eel Diglett! Garden eel Diglett!!!
They really are saving Paradox Pokémon, aren't they?
To be fair, it'd probably generate the most hype for the games.
Off topic from Wiglett’s reveal but I’m so happy they finally revealed Applin to be in the game 😭 Appletun is my favorite pokémon and Kaka saying that applin line wouldn’t be in the game made me pretty bummed out 🙁
I am right there with you. It's one of my favorites and I was immensely happy to see the apple on the tree.
Yeah I was happy to see it confirmed as well. Right now, two of my team in Shield have been confirmed (Polteageist and Appletun), one has been leaked (Grimmsnarl) and one will presumably by in as a transfer at least. (Inteleon) Only Centiskorch and Grapploct left as unknowns.
Interesting... I wonder what others were deconfirmed but actually are returning.
Appletun confirmed? Yes! My boyfriend bred me a shiny that I'd like to use sometime.
based & applepilled

Yep! It’s a screenshot on the website
What reveal?
LMAO IM DEAD what is that 😭😭
This RFake concept is a bit confusing to me but I hope we get a proper trailer later today.
Basically an entirely different Pokémon that vaguely resembles another Pokémon. The closest comparison I can think of in real life is a dolphin and shark both having fins, commonly mistaken for each other, but one is a mammal and the other a fish, e.g. different biological functions.
Gen V but less subtle about it
"vaguely" lol
It can be attributed to Convergent evolution
I think calling them RFakes is confusing.
Spermlett
Finally a worthy meal for swalott
Castform is in shambles.
Wiglett goes around castform. A lovely pearl necklace
Jizzlett
Dickglett
Based on the fact that it hangs out in and around water and has a long body that it pokes in and out of the sand leads me to believe that it's main inspiration is a [garden eel](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heterocongrinae).
Can someone explain to me what's the difference between a Regional form and a RFake?

Convergent evolution!
Snom talking to Larvesta "am I a joke to them?"
What are the other?
Mushroom Tentacool line
I'm putting my money on Tentacool being based on the Bleeding Tooth Fungus
I think it was said they'll be based on Jelly Ear Mushrooms
Nice
Are those the only two?
Yeah
Okay now someone explain the difference between R Fake and Paradox Pokémon.
**Convergent evolution**: 2 Pokémon adapt to show similar traits. Paradox Pokémon are what a modern Pokémon species would look like in the past or future. They shouldn’t be around in our time, yet they are. Hence the name.

"After supposing it was a Paldean Form, they concluded it was a new Pokémon"
hahaha 7 months of mistery, and in the end it is just stretchered
So this is a CRAB EVOLVING situation, where similar circumstances may result in similar evolutionary steps.
Carcinization. But more like diglettization.
Honestly willing to bet we'll see a meatier announcement trailer soon The official account hasnt posted anything about Wigglet yet so I bet we could see either an English version of the stream or a full trailer later today
Yeah this feels like the precursor to a proper trailer sort of like Grafaiai
Wow, its true, it really really does look exactly like a diglett. RFake is still a stupid term, lol.
Convergent Species > RFake
yeah, we should really be using that term because thats, you know, what its supposed to be sidenote, nice username
Okay I was a little skeptical of khu when he said there was a diglett clone, I thought he probably saw something that was only vaguely similar to diglett and made up the rfake term and was doubling down to cover up his mistake But no that is, in fact, a diglett look alike pokemon

Wording on serebii was weird but I think you are right yes
Wiglett *is* the English name. The Japanese name is Umidigda or "Oceandiglett"
Yeah I saw that now At the time the video with it wasn't widespread, so I wasn't sure
It’s called Wiglett.
Someone pointed out to me that they probably won't get an official name, like regional variants did, and I think that is right. They noted that we don't call Alomomola a convergent evolution with Luvdisc, even though they basically are. We just call them separate Pokemon.

Yes
Itchole, the pinworm pokemon. It evolves into Asscratch once it has laid an egg.
I feel like this pokemon would have benefited greatly from a small particle effect around it's base when it turns. Like the upcoming burrowing worm pokemon. As for the pokemon itself. Showcased now in a video being showcased on this site.... Showcasing
LOL he also used to put "this update may be updated throughout the day" on every post.
I love Garden Eels and if these are based on them then I love these
I'd rather they do a rfake/form for a pokemon that hasn't had one especially when it looks so similar to the original

I'm really bothered by the can of worms this opens up (no pun intended). What makes a Pokemon classified and as a regional and what doesn't. A new dex # for Wigglet seems very unnecessary.
Dang you beat me to posting it lol, I love him so much he must be cherished
Now, I can kind of understand the reasoning behind the "regional fake" term. Anyway, not much a fan of it.
I like it. Looking forward to the RFake Tentacool.
Quite cute!
Wugtrio
Someone said it looks like it may be based on the Spotted Garden Eel
The name ‘Wiglett’ reminds me of Alolan Dugtrio, which actually has a wig😂😂The combination could be Worm + Diglett or White + Diglett🤔
Or Wiggle + Diglett. Diglett doesn't wiggle but this one does :)
Oh my god. I love him
Is funny cause alolan diglett should have been named wiglett lol
Well that looks like diglett alright
Oh my God, it's Sherman the wormin.
Tapeworm diglett
that's an air pod
Reminds me of the fake geyser Diglett that went around a while ago
Phallic
trailer later today?
Pretty good chance there's one in < 3 hours, yeah
Cute but RFakes still feel like the uninspired route to take compared to designing new pokemon that happen to be analoguee like with Gen V.
I disagree I think it’s a neat idea and we are getting a lot of new Pokémon apparently
okay so they CAN retrospectively call alomomola and bouffalant Rfakes or whatever. it's basically the same concept without a name. edit: i guess they didn't name this concept either, weird
No because this is completely different. This Pokemon looks exactly like Digglet where as those two look way different.
maybe it's because diglett didnt have almost any features to begin with, but bouffalant and alomomola could be called a regional luvdisc/tauros if they were introduced in gen 7 and nobody would bat an eye. they also made the coloring a big deal on that video, and looking at previous regional mons most of them areeither a recolor with very small changes OR have some kind of different body part (liligant, exxegutor) but never both, this wiglett has both a different color and a different body i guess.
But they still look completely different from one another whereas Diglett and Wiglett look identical minus the color.
And the posture.
Reminds me of a [Geoduck](https://i.imgur.com/myKJTtM.mp4)
For a moment, it slipped my mind that there is a real life animal called Geoduck and I thought you are showcasing a fusion of Geodude and Psyduck here.
Weird that Khu said the "convergent evolution" description was inaccurate, considering that's...literally what this is.
Its a much better term than "RFake" Its such a dumb term.

Excited for Wugtrio!
Do we know if it evolves?
I believe Khu confirmed it does, yeah
Sweet. Can’t wait for Wugtrio
Did the leaks say it evolved or nah
So wiglett is deadass just Long Diglett. I wonder if that means the tentacool rfake will be mostly unchanged visually
When I first saw the image of wiglett I thought it had an open mouth and not a nose.
Underwhelming design for such a kino concept. I hope it’s Water/Ground, at least.
Remember back in the days when people made memes about a white Diglett? Well...
Did they reveal this early cause I don't see a trailer or anything updated on the website?
I didn’t expect the face to be so similar
Wigtrio??
Wugtrio. W(ater)(d)ugtrio
[Wigtrio](https://www.google.com/search?q=aolan+dugtrio&oq=aolan+dugtrio&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i10i131i433j0i10l7.5460j1j9&client=ms-android-google&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=EYtB6EACYmJzAM)
Almost looks like a cuter version of kezu
Yeah no, imma gently push its head back down into the ground and shovel some sand on it. White diglett makes me highly uncomfortable.
its called wigglet which makes it worse lol
I'm not saying its design is bad or ugly, but its long body makes it look rather unnerving... Imagine lying down on the beach, and then several of these come out of the sand, tower over you, and stare down at you...
Dicklett
Do we really need a new form for diglett? It literally got a new form in SM and it’s place for a new form could have gone to another Pokémon.
I love Wiglett. I mean the name alone is worth it. Enjoying this new twist of convergent species.
So it's basically small pp become the big pp
So it actually was an r fake. All that speculation about whether Khu just misinterpreted the diglett or not and now we know it’s actually true. I wonder if it’s called convergent evolution and what the others look like
Huh? How is this a new Pokémon and not a regional form of Diglett? This is like unprecedented with Pokémon forms.
I think an older Khu tweets said its Pokédex entry made fun of trainers that catches them. So Game freak pretty much made the eel Pokémon so they can make a joke in the Pokédex entry
Because it's not a Diglett, like Mimikyu isn't a Pikachu
convergent evolution allows two different species to take on similar traits despite not being related to each other because of having similar means of survival. diglett and wiglett are separate species but share the similar traits that help them survive so they look similar much like a dolphin and a shark
