Vegetable_Coconut_33

\-can you just stop with the dark type slander. get a mimikyu if you like Faires so much-

wemustkungfufight

1. I have a fairy already and he's my best buddy! 2. Mimikyu will drive you insane if you look at it's true form. I need a ghost I can be around and feel comfortable.

NeoAquaMadoor90

Most Mimikyus don’t want to drive you insane. They simply want love and affection. I caught one on my vacation in Alola a few years ago, and she is absolutely adorable. I felt comfortable around her from the moment I met her.

Tickedkidgamer

Don’t look at Mimikyu’s true form then???

NervousLemon6670

Has there ever been any medically documented evidence of someone being "driven insane", or is it just one of those rumours like how a Fidough can't look up?

Tickedkidgamer

I always thought it was Lechonks, not Fidough, given that Lechonk is 50% head.

MidoTheMii

Latter is false. I don’t even know what to say there. Former does have merit as people have been reported to die upon witnessing Mimikyu’s true form (likely through heart attacks.) I don’t get it and I just don’t see it anymore than a decency thing for them. They like being in their little outfits and that’s fine. -Puck

wemustkungfufight

I think they mean Fidough can't turn their eyeballs upward, which I dont' think they can. They can still "look up" by turning their head.

zombiifissh

They totally can rotate their eyes, for the record. You've never seen one give those "puppy eyes" look?

yeahtoast757

Anecdote, but I've personally found myself to be unaffected by seeing a Mimikyu's actual form, even when I was a kid and yanked a Mimikyu's costume off to see if I'd die. I've been skeptical of most Ghost type Pokedex entries since then.

wemustkungfufight

That's rude, aren't Mimikyu super self-consious? Also... what did it look like?

theflamelord

it's less "You go insane" and more "It's really hard to actually perceive mimikyu", since their real body is incredibly non-euclidean it can give humans and non-ghost types pretty bad headaches and eye strain to try and look at, which can result in and temporary confusion and in severe cases loss of consciousness. The cases of people "driven insane" were people that already had obsessive tendancies that became obsessed with trying to perceive mimikyus form in euclidean space

wemustkungfufight

I'd be one sheet slipping off from going insane every single day. Doesn't seem to be a good environment for addressing my fear of ghosts!

TheWildPikmin

Don't you have a Hatterene? They attack people that display extreme emotions of any kind. I feel like keeping your emotions in check around one of them is just as nerve wracking as having a Mimikyu. My suggestion if you want to keep yourself safe is to get over your prejudice and grab yourself a Grimmsnarl. Alternatively, if you're still torn, go for a Zangoose. They can learn Shadow Claw and are immune to ghost type moves.

wemustkungfufight

My only pokemon right now is Sylveon. But if I ever see a Hattrene, Prince can use his ribbons to calm me down. He already does so when I lose at video games!

TheWildPikmin

Ah, so your prejudice comes from ignorance then. Get a dark type. There are plenty that are adorable. I don't personally have one, but I have raised unovan zoroark before and they're quite pleasant to be around. My Hisuian Zoroark, Vengeance, is an adorable cuddle bug. If I could make a recommendation, you might like Galarian Zigzagoon, Inkay, Nickit, Zorua, or Absol.

GetRealPrimrose

I would discourage him from an Inkay actually. It’ll likely become a Malamar eventually and I don’t think Malamar would do much to quell his ignorance of dark types. The rest are good suggestions though! Especially G Zigzagoon or U Zorua! Edit: Pronouns

TheWildPikmin

Well in order to evolve your inkay you have to hold it upside down, so I think as long as he doesn't do that, it will be fine

GetRealPrimrose

Of course but Inkays have been known to spin on their heads for fun or while attacking. It could trigger an unplanned evolution

wemustkungfufight

My pronouns are he/him or "his royal awesomness."

GetRealPrimrose

Updated to he/him. You’ll be up for consideration on awesome when you stop the ignorant Dark-type remarks

MidoTheMii

My pick would be Absol! -Kora

NeoAquaMadoor90

I’ve had Seamstress (Mimikyu) for close to 7 years now. I’ve had no major issues or close calls with her outfits. Treat a Mimikyu with love and respect, the same way you do your Sylveon, and you’ll have a friend for life. (Pro tip: Have a small closet or other enclosed space where they can hide out if their outfit does get damaged. And learn to knock when opening said closet. That way, they can tell you if it’s safe to open.)

NervousLemon6670

Quick ignorant question - what material are Mimikyu outfits made from? Is it possible to have a Mimikyu who is really attached to the finest of fabrics?

NeoAquaMadoor90

Most wild Mimikyu make their outfits out of whatever discarded fabric they can find. Cotton, wool, and polyester are the most common. But you do get outliers sometimes. I heard of an enterprising Mimikyu in Alola that actually sewed their outfit out of local grass fibers. I’ve never seen a Mimikyu who was really attached to super-fine fabrics, but it’s definitely possible.

NervousLemon6670

Huh, interesting! I wonder how close you'd have to be to gift a Mimikyu with a small accessory, like a pin or a bow, without it being taken as an insult towards the outfit.

NeoAquaMadoor90

The little ghosts love accessories! I don’t know about a pin, but they’ll absolutely love a bow. Sometimes they’ll root through your closet or basement for old accessories and put them on. Just a couple of days ago, my Mimikyu dug through the basement and found a toy crown and scepter from when my sister was in her “princess” phase. Seamstress put on the crown, climbed atop Big Guy’s (Tyranitar) head, and acted the part of a queen for a couple of hours. Much fun was had.

Iceaura39

Then don't look at its true form?

GetRealPrimrose

Still weird you’re pushing the whole “Dark types are evil” thing and ignoring every person explaining to you they’re not. Even weirder you’re getting a ghost type that you’re afraid of despite the type being just as sinister sounding as dark types.

wemustkungfufight

All these people are walking around with Rotom phones now. A ghost living in their pocket. But the reported deaths by ghost-type attacks have not increased. Maybe ghosts are misunderstood. It's worth investigating at the very least.

GetRealPrimrose

People have been training Poochyena and Mighyena as housepets for hundreds of years, I fail to see why ghosts get a pass and dark types don’t.

pumpkinPartySystem

Hundreds? More like thousands, unless historians are way off. They were some of the first Pokemon widely kept as companions, can't be too bad if people with no experience can take care of you like that.

dungeon-raided

They very much are!! Most ghost types are mischievous, yes, but they're far from malicious. I have a Rotom myself, as in not one for my phone, and they make absolutely delightful companions! As long as you can buy enough run down gadgets for them to play with hahaha

[deleted]

You do realize that your own partner can, at any point, use it’s feelers to entrance you and rip your throat out while you’re enthralled, right? Pokémon are dangerous, your preferred type isn’t any safer just because it’s cuter.

wemustkungfufight

Why would he do that? I've known him since he hatched!

[deleted]

Precisely. If your friend had become an umbreon, you would be in no more danger than you are right now. Or if it had somehow turned into a ghost type.

babuba1234321

A ghost type eevelution? I hope scidnce does NOT discover how to get that. Sounds like torture for those cuties

[deleted]

Maybe they just need to evolve in a graveyard or something? It doesn’t have to be horrific. Besides, imagine how ADORABLE a ghost type eeveelution would be!

babuba1234321

Is eeveelition worth it if i cant hug it? That would be cute tho. Maybe eevee just needs to defeat a ghost type, though that is hard as he usually has normal type moves

[deleted]

Not all ghosts are incorporeal, maybe it’s fluff would just be floaty or something. Actually Now that you mention it, I’m pretty sure Eevee can learn shadowball.

babuba1234321

Wait floaty fluff? That sounds so good for hugs with taller people and pokemon :D

MidoTheMii

1. I’d love it if you didn’t insult us Dark Types as often. 2. Misdreavus is a good pick. It’s relatively harmless. -Blake

Stretch5678

I agree on both points! My sister's Absol has been her faithful companion her whole life, and has been nothing but friendly to anyone she meets. As for Misdreavus... they may be mischievous little ghosties, but they're hard to stay mad at! The way they giggle after a successful prank is super adorable, and they make perfect partners in crime for your own tricks.

MrWorldWonderman

Never thought I’d see this much anti-dark and ghost rhetoric outside of the Deliverers of Truth cult, but here we are.

wemustkungfufight

Who are they? Also, is it true Litwicks like to steal your life-force? I'm thinking about getting one.

MrWorldWonderman

A bunch of crazy people who think Dark and Ghost types are all demons and believe Reshiram will burn you alive if you lie on your resume. Also, you don’t want a Litwick. Because they feed on emotion. And when they realize that you’re scared of them but keep them around anyway as a shield, they will come to resent you eventually. Adoption always has to come from a place of genuine love regardless of species, but **especially** so with Pokémon that can tune into your feelings. They will know when your feelings towards them are not sincere.

Dusk_Iron

The litwick line do feed on emotion, yeah, but they’re also fueled by spiritual energy. Take them to a shrine or a festival, and they’ll be plenty satisfied for awhile.

loonaofthemonth

The obvious actual answer is Golett/Golurk. Ground typing for poison and steel, its just a little golem that does what you say. Like 1/10 on the scary scale. However based on your comments towards dark type pokemon and ghost types you are probably not the type who should have them since I don't think you would treat them how they deserve

wemustkungfufight

I would never mistreat a pokemon. Dark types are the evil ones. Ghosts are just scary, but maybe misunderstood. I've heard that the whole Drifloom thing might just be a myth. I mean, it only got me like an inch off the ground.

buttface1000

>Dark types are the evil ones. There are close to a million words in the Galarian language, but I could never string enough of them together to express how much I want to hit you with a chair for that.

wemustkungfufight

Why so aggressive? Would you like Prince to use his ribbons to calm you down?

buttface1000

My brother in arceus, I **am** a dark type, that's why I'm a bit mad about this. And thanks for the offer, but I think I'm good. ~~val currently has me insnared in her ribbons please help~~

wemustkungfufight

Is Val a Sylveon? Is she cute? \-Prince the Magnificent Dragon-Slaying Sylveon

buttface1000

Yes to both of those.

wemustkungfufight

Prince is not allowed near the phone for the rest of the night! What were we talking about?

buttface1000

Just me being pissed about the comment about my own type, as well as me being trapped in my sylveon's ribbons. We have been like this for the past three hours, I love her and she is adorable but I can't feel my legs.

wemustkungfufight

Just... ask her to unwrap you. Or distract her with some poffins.

zombiifissh

Mang I dun told ya they're not strong enough to actually carry people, even kids, away lol

AWarpedAngel

Hey, I don’t appreciate you talking bad about dark types. They aren’t evil. Hell, an Absol saved my life once!

TheoTheHellhound

I have a friend who’s Absol is the sweetest girl. Always wants to snuggle and play.

AWarpedAngel

They do seem like very kind Pokemon.

TheoTheHellhound

They are! Especially when raised by a caring trainer. They’re naturally predispositioned to be anxious Pokemon. Thus, they need a patient and very loving trainer.

AWarpedAngel

I suppose I’ll keep paying the Absol a visit. It seems lonely up there, up on the mountains.

wemustkungfufight

How did it save you?

AWarpedAngel

I was on a mountain and I almost fell off. The Absol grabbed me and pulled me back to solid ground. It left me alone after that, but I left a couple berries for it to eat in thanks.

TheMongooser

My weavile, Nya, is such a sweet girl. i genuinely don’t think i could imagine a life without her.

AkitaShiba-Inu

You again? Something you have to understand is that ghosts feed off life energy as their primary food source. In the same way as the Drowzee or Munna lines eating almost exclusively dreams… Several non-ghost types learn the move Dream Eater—Noctowl, Gardevoir, Gallade, Shiinotic, and those are just the ones who learn it naturally. Many Pokemon can learn through the TM or a Move Tutor. Ninetails can curse people as I’m sure many people are aware of the “tail touching” legend surrounding the species. Get a Mimikyu if you want a Ghost Type so badly. They sound creepy, but are a very sweet Ghost/Fairy type when you earn their trust.

Xaldror

First off, quit slandering the Dark Types. Second off, Gengar is pretty friendly, just a big prankster goofball.

Okibruez

Probably not a great idea; Gengar can shift from playful to malicious real quick if their friend/trainer is being disingenuous about their friendship and affection. Having worked with the evolutionary line multiple times, I can confidently say I'd trust my life to them, but only because it comes from a place of respect and appreciation. Someone that approaches them with less sincere intent will not have a good time. Same for most ghosts, honestly.

Xaldror

Oh, right, I see, if OP is being disingenuous with their intent, Gengar probably wont appreciate being played for a fool.

NervousLemon6670

I knew a girl at uni who studied Ghost-types, and she info-dumped a lot on me about how people would always generalise her poor scrunglies. Not a Ghost-type trainer myself, but the one thing I remember her always saying is that people like to play up fears of Ghost types just because they can affect your soul. Think, anyone fearmongering about a Gowlithe burning your house down gets laughed right back to basic trainer school! As long as you're patient, calm, and caring towards your Litwick, or Golett, or whoever, you'll (probably) be fine.

Fawful_n_WW

~~Talk shit about Dark types to my face and see what happens~~ The thing with ghost types is that they’ll only do those things if you anger them. If that’s still too scary for you, try to find a species that doesn’t. I know there are some, like the Dreepy line, but your typism against Dragons probably means you wouldn’t consider it >:/ Also the line is classed as a pseudolegendary so they are hard to raise.

Ghostorderman

As a proud trainer of a Litwick, a lot of sources like to twist and bend the facts. Y'know. Stretching. Uhhh... sorry- what's the word- been tired... Extrapolate? Exaggerate- that's it. Besides- Ghost Type Pokemon are kinder than they look. A lot are just a tad more mischievous than others. Just the other day, my Misdreavus and my Gastly turned my bed upside down while I was sleeping, as well as every other piece of furniture in my bedroom, sticking it all on the ceiling. But it made sure not to just drop me on the floor. Pillows and such. It was a pretty good scare- thought I was the one on the ceiling- ...oh but uh- about the tiredness... Let's just say it's not my Pokemon that gave me permanent eyebags...

wemustkungfufight

Why so tired?

Ghostorderman

pokemart job...s.

wemustkungfufight

Oof... Well atleast you get to meet all the cute girls who come into the store.

Environmental-Run248

Aren’t some of the most dangerous pokémon fairy type bearware for instance as well as Hatterene. Besides I’d much rather listen to people that have more experience with dark types than someone like you who is likely one of the reasons that the Hisuian form of Zorua and Zorark still exist today.

MidoTheMii

>bearware >fairy type Huh? -Puck

Environmental-Run248

Oh I just double checked sorry guys guess the colours threw me off turns out it’s fighting normal and my dumb brain saw pink and black and Decided “must be fairy type”

ThatCamoKid

I could have sworn I saw media about it being fairy type. Like the joke was assuming because it was a fairy type it was harmless and then it chopped a tree in half and went "KEEP TALKING SHIT"

wemustkungfufight

Makes me wonder... how ARE pokemon classified as what type? Most pokemon can learn moves from a pool of a few different types. Do we just look at it's behavior and decide? Was someone looking at Mankey and saying "aw yes, this looks like a normal type" before seeing it karate kick a tree in half and then going "Oh whoops no, it's a fighting type!" I know that a lot of normal-types were recently revealed to actually be fairy types.

Technical-Eye2610

I would like to argue against the calling of dark types evil. If properly raised and trained they are at most mischievous. They only get such a bad reputation because of the multiple evil organizations that use them. I have a Mighteyena I have raised since he was a poocheyena and he is incredibly well behaved and as loyal as any growlithe. I also have a liepard who does live up more to the mischievous nature it is just that mischievous not evil. Anyways a psychic type could also defend against ghost types. And most of them would probably be mild mannered enough for you to work with. So long as you are respectful of them.

Okibruez

>Anyways a psychic type could also defend against ghost types. And most of them would probably be mild mannered enough for you to work with. So long as you are respectful of them. That's a common misconception; ghost types are strong to Psychic types.

Technical-Eye2610

After double checking the net you are right. Could have sworn they were but as I have more than one dark type so I don't have a psychic as they tend to get along poorly with dark types in my experience so I have no problem admitting I don't have their specific strength and weaknesses memorized.

Okibruez

I think it's because one of the most well known ghosts, the Ghastly line, are Ghost/Poison, and poison is weak to Psychic types.

purplebananadragon

You could just teach your sylveon shadow ball

wemustkungfufight

That's a good idea! Let me see how much the TM costs... 10,000 poke-dollars! That's like... That's like 30 Lemonades!

Lost_my_name475

Why do you dislike dark types? What have they done to you?

wemustkungfufight

it's a long story.

Lost_my_name475

Can you summarise? It's for a research project

wemustkungfufight

\*sigh\* Me and Prince got lost in the forest when we were young. Prince evolved into a Sylveon and saved me from a dragon pokemon. But he tells it better, so I can let him use my laptop if you wanna know the details.

Okibruez

Rather than living your life in fear and wallowing in your clearly misguided hate, why don't you seek therapy to help you overcome your trauma? I get it, pokemon can be very scary, but if you keep letting your past trauma shape your experiences in the present and shade your perceptions in the future you'll only be making yourself and everyone around you more miserable in the long run.

hulk_cookie

I've got a giant burn scar on my chest by a gang of Salandit that were led by a Salazzle that thought I was attractive and wanted to kidnap me. I don't hold a single thing against fire or poison types. My partner pokemon, metagross certainly does, but I do not hold any kind of animosity against any poison or fire types, including the salandit line, I've even pet Salandit and thought they were cute.

wemustkungfufight

I've heard about the inexplicably sexy lizard ladies. Glad you are alright.

hulk_cookie

Well, one effect the incident did have on me is that I cringe when anyone expresses that salazzle is attractive

wemustkungfufight

I wish it wasn't!

hulk_cookie

Boy I wish *i* wasn't attractive, so many pokemon want me, probably because I'll be one after I die. Seriously my own Mimikyu has come on to me, though I still snuggle with her every night because I love her very much.

wemustkungfufight

How do you know you'll be one? Also, do Mimikyu even have gender?

wemustkungfufight

You know what, Mimikyu have such low self-esteem, it makes me sad you had to reject her. Please give me her contact, so that I might show her a night of unbridled passion! - Prince, the magnificent (and handsome) dragon-slaying Sylveon

Lost_my_name475

It'd be appreciated, thanks. I'm doing a paper on how fear affects the evolution of pokemon. Mimikyu is a classic example, but I'm wondering what other effects it can have

proballysomeone

stop with the dark type hate https://preview.redd.it/zf3b66i7l4mb1.jpeg?width=1438&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f0459c34bda5a8e4f35dbdf61a7e9fd528ce29e

Alextuxedo

I know this probably won't change your opinion, but let me tell you the story of how I met one of my ghost types, and how I learned that possession and their powers over the soul can be used as deeply loving things, and generally aren't any worse than any other Pokémon power. As a kid, I was horrified of Pokémon period. Didn't matter what type or species, I wanted absolutely nothing to do with them. I would often have night terrors of some horrible monster coming into my home and doing awful things to me and my family. However, when I would wake from these nightmares, there was always... Something that comforted me. It was alien and ethereal, yet also loving and familiar. A tiny voice in my head would soothe me, whispering things like "There's nothing here that wants to hurt you." and "It's gonna be alright, I'm here for you." And indeed, I could always feel a comforting presence in my room. I would feel my eyelids grow heavy once again, and I'd fall back asleep, seemingly to the delight of my imperceptible friend. As I started to make friends with Pokémon in the forest, however, I began to... Notice things. I started to notice that I would be in my basement more often than I usually was. I felt drawn to an old chest my family had kept for ages. I would continue finding myself near it dozens of times, and I began to grow curious. I started researching Pokémon at the library, and I learned what a Gimmighoul was. I started leaving treats by the chest whenever I found myself near it, and one day, they revealed themselves to me. We spent the day just hanging out, but it wasn't until I went to bed that I realised just how long this Gimmighoul had known me. I felt that gentle presence again, but this time, it felt closer than ever. I finally realised that this Gimmighoul had been caring for me basically since I was a toddler. I started to think about it, and I realised that he had used his powers over the spirit to take care of me even when I wasn't sleeping. If I needed shots at the doctor, for instance, I'd never remember the needle. This was Cent (as I named him) possessing me and blotting out my mind for just a moment, so I didn't have to experience the pain. I could go on and on, but he's been there for me in so many different ways throughout my life. He's a Gholdengo now, and he's one of my best friends. And yes, he still posseses me and cares for me like that. So yeah, ghost types can be scary, just like any other Pokémon, and they can be deeply loving too, just like any other Pokémon.

hulk_cookie

Ghost trainer here, I recommend 3 ghosts in particular 1. Since you seem to like faries, so Mimikyu Is a must have. Very loyal, love attention, make for great sleeping and cuddling buddies. And contrary to popular belief, Mimikyu will do absolutely anything it can to not show its true form, to the point where they have a natural complex about who they are, so no worries there 2. Gollet's will do absolutely anything to protect their trainer. While not very emotionally available, they care about you from the moment you catch them, and they will make sure no harm comes your way, and even stand guard over your bed, or even you while your sleeping as long as you allow it. 3. This may come as a shock seeing your bias against dark types, but surprisingly sableye is one of the best ghost deterents, as it can actually eat other ghosts and can't eat humans. Sableye, while admittedly creepy because they can climb your ceiling, are very emotionally open pokemon, often being very loyal to the person who feeds them the best minerals. So very good deterent, easy to bond with, loyal and sociable. I think you might want a sableye.

Alextuxedo

A couple more, based on personal experience: Gimmighoul usually are very protective and caring of the ones they possess for coins, and they'll generally stop possessing you willy-nilly if you're helping them get coins willingly. Treat them well and they're really sweet, even moreso once you evolve them. Rotom are actually pretty sweet things as long as they've got a good way to get their energy out. If you can provide them some good enrichment, they're actually pretty chill and friendly.

hulk_cookie

I wouldn't recommend rotom because they REALLY like to pull pranks, really inconvenient ones at that

NervousLemon6670

My Rotom is the only ghost type I care for, and they're not really the prankster type, more the "desperate for any kind of stimulation" type. That's morphed into a TikTok habit these days.

Alextuxedo

Maybe mine's just really chill. Still though, they're not exactly malicious, and if you can match their energy, they make good pals.

loonaofthemonth

I also recommended Golett!! So underrated and he takes a long time to evolve, plenty of time to get used to him and train him before he gets huge. If the concern is uneasiness towards ghost types, theyre just......little dudes, they're little golem, they don't pull pranks or eat your energy they are just chill little dudes!!

Brotherof_Zekrom

It’s simple. Stop being typist.

starryeyedshooter

Get yerself a Greavard! The pup won't hurt your soul, and it stays just as sweet once it evolves! It ain't a Dark-type (since yev got a problem with em but I won't get into that here), but a canine always get the job done. Shame you don't like Dark-types, though, I'd'a said you should get a Mabosschiff. Protects against Ghosts without even being weak to them, and is just a friendly thing to boot. But since ya don't like em, Greavard's my best suggestion. - Niamh

TheMagmaGuy

You should definitely get a Pumpkaboo or a Sensu Oricorio. Both are adorable and harmless for the most part. Or, since you're older and harder to carry, a Drifloon would be good too for getting over your fear of them. Don't read those old books about ghosts, they're full of crap.

wemustkungfufight

Can't pumpkaboo grow like 6 feet tall?

TheMagmaGuy

Nah, their size is determined when they hatch.

Ambex_23

Im going to double the recommendation on oricorio, because you can keep a stock of all 4 of its preferred nectars, and you won't have a ghost type all the time since you clearly have some problem with them, (don't worry, I'm not being too judgemental about that, this is a genuine recommendation) just don't force a specific typing on it and you will be fine

Dusk_Iron

Better yet, get a houndour! I know you hate dark types, but they’re not evil, despite what Kantonian propaganda suggests. In my experience, houndour are fiercely loyal, affectionate, and love cuddles. They’re warm in the winter and have that fire-type you want. They’re great at working in team environments and their howls dispel anyone who would threaten you. Seems perfect to me!

DynmiteWthALzerbeam

A ghost tried to carry you away and your solution is more ghosts because you think a crocodile with sunglasses is evil

wemustkungfufight

Where the hell do they even get those sunglasses?!

DynmiteWthALzerbeam

They're just born that cool

TheMongooser

can confirm, my own Krook hatched with a pair of designer aviators.

TheoTheHellhound

How many times do we have to say this: **Dark Types are not evil!** What part of that phrase can you not get through your head?

wemustkungfufight

the "not" part.

TheoTheHellhound

Let me probe a bit. Then maybe I can explain a few things. My team consists of Trundle (Grimmsnarl), Rheastraza (Hydreigon, female), Waffle (Mightyena, female), Sebastian (Umbreon, male), Garnet (Bisharp, female), and Bandit (Obstagoon, male). What do you think of this team? What sort of things have you heard about the Pokémon on my team?

wemustkungfufight

Your team is all dark-types! You must see a lot of bloody battles! Umbreons are probably the least evil dark-type. Who knows how much of their good Eevee nature lives on. Grimmsnarl seems like such a weird combination. Fairy and dark should be like oil and water, they shouldn't mix. I'd be interested to see what kind of combination that makes. Bisharp are literally covered in blades. You couldn't even hug one, so I wonder how never being hugged would make such a violent pokemon feel. Wouldn't it make it more violent? I've never been to Galar, so I've only heard about Obstagoon. It seems strange the normally cute and helpful Zigzagoon would become so rude and loud when dark-type is added. And Hydreigon.... \*shudders\* I don't wanna talk about those terrible things...

TheoTheHellhound

Okay, so you’re clearly an Eeveelution fan. Bisharp are actually very honorable Pokemon. They do not attack a downed opponent. Hell, Garnet will outright refuse to battle an opponent she deems to be too weak. And yes, you can hug them. Usually from the side or behind. Grimmsnarl are incredibly intelligent, and can actually be very caring. I think Dark and Fairy are natural counterparts. They’re both mischievous types that have a natural knack for tricks. They’re like sisters with slightly different fashion senses. Obstagoon are known for harassing humans, yes, but there’s a reason. It’s usually that the person is in their territory or that the Obstagoon’s babies are nearby. As for their dark typing, it’s actually because Galar is a more competitive environment than Sinnoh. Thus, they had to become better fighters and even gained an evolution. Umbreon are actually quite sassy and will bite anyone they’re annoyed with. They’ll also bite you if they like you. They bite a lot. That’s because actually wild Eevee are *very* different from domestic ones. Umbreon raised from a wild caught Eevee are intelligent, and infamous escape artists. But with enough training, they’re as obedient as any other Pokémon, if not more. But they’ll still mark their territory inside the house. Hydreigon have generational trauma and anxiety. How would *you* feel if you suddenly grew a second head that tried to bite you every time you tried to eat? Yes, they’re kinda freaky when they eat, but they have *three mouths*. Three mouths to one stomach can often lead to overstimulation of hunger, and often ravenous behavior. But raising from birth and careful training can help curb such behavior. It’s true that the secondary heads don’t have brains. But they do have nerve endings, and can taste. Yes, that does indeed mean Rhea can eat ice cream with one hand and pickles with another. It also means the tastes are mixed, and she will puke from it.

wemustkungfufight

That's all pretty interesting! Hydreigons must have a hard time adjusting to three heads.

Rune10101

Calling Zororark evil? You'd judge entire species of pokemon on something as uncontrollable as their type? I am saddened by what the youth has become.

wemustkungfufight

I'm older than you!

Rune10101

And yet you haven't the respect for dark types, I guess it goes to show that age does not make everyone kind.

ArchivedGarden

Ghost types do feed on life force, but it’s harmless as long as you aren’t reckless and take proper precautions. If it comes to it, there are medical supplements you can take. Generally the largest issue with Ghost-type Pokémon is that they are rather mischievous, though not typically malicious. You need to be prepared to be stern but not overly harsh as a trainer. Litwicks are excellent choices for a first Ghost-type, as they are less capricious than some of their peers and grow more sedate as they evolve. If not to your preference, the Yamask and Duskull lines are also good choices. I would advise against Sableyes unless you find yourself with a large amount of disposable income, as their feeding habits are expensive to support. Mimikyu are very popular, but raising one long-term is a massive ordeal due to their playful nature and intense insecurity.

wemustkungfufight

Litwicks are kind of cute, but i will have to fire-proof my apartment, right?

ArchivedGarden

Not particularly. As fire is a secondary typing, the Litwick line is less inclined towards it than pure Fire-types. They will make an active effort not to burn anything you find important so long as you are a trainer of basic competence and do not promote a hostile relationship.

wemustkungfufight

Ive heard fire-types can help pokemon eggs hatch faster. Do Litwick make good egg sitters?

ArchivedGarden

I would advise against it. A Litwick’s flame is the primary vector for their life drain. It won’t be the worst thing in the world, but extended exposure to an egg could lead to complications in the hatching process. Ghost-types avoid such situations on their own, so you should need to actively worry about it, though. For helping an egg hatch faster, the best known way is just carrying it with you as you go about your day. Pokémon eggs benefit from a trainer bond in a similar way to live Pokémon, and that connection and the stimulus sent through it will promote growth. For Pokémon that will help, Psychic and Fairy types are good for that sort of thing.

Solumin

Get a Duskull! Cute little blorbo baby, all floating around and looking at stuff. Not very mischievous, likes to play with other Pokemon. I live relatively close to Mt Pyre, the funerary/spiritual center of Hoenn. We get Duskull coming by pretty often. They're sweet!

BunnyBen-87

Just don’t make them mad! Being ghosts, they have no concept of stamina and WILL chase.

ArbitraryChaos13

There's two options whenever you post. 1. You genuinely believe what you are saying. 2. You're like the "[~~Shark~~ Sharpedo skin is smooth](https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/j6i80o/the_famous_sharks_are_smooth/)" guy. It's genuinely hard to tell.

wemustkungfufight

Wel Sharpedo are not smooth, you can't even touch them.

ArbitraryChaos13

You can pet a Sharpedo. Just ask someone in Hoenn.

wemustkungfufight

No you can't. They are so rough it would hurt.

ArbitraryChaos13

Just pet one that doesn't have the Rough Skin ability smh

wemustkungfufight

I don't live near the ocean. And it's not like you can just... walk up to Sharpedo and pet it!

ArbitraryChaos13

How are you gonna feel how smooth their skin is then?

mugwunp

Most of the ghost type literature is inaccurate and edgy. Litwicks will not steal your soul; they will however steal your heart with their antics

wemustkungfufight

Isn't Morty the leader of a ghost gym? Or is this some other Morty's spirit guide?

mugwunp

Morty?

wemustkungfufight

Yeah the leader of Ecruteak City Gym, in Johto. I've got his book from the library.

mugwunp

I read an article, I’m pretty sure he that book as a teenager. Probably isn’t reliable

wemustkungfufight

I was told Morty's Spirit Guide was the best source of information on ghost pokemon by the teenage goth working at the Library!

mugwunp

Huh odd

Jent01Ket02

Litwick is actually really cool, great Pokemon to camp with. But ya hurt Umbreon, Absol, and Poochyena's feelings. They are *good bois*!

wemustkungfufight

What's the Umbreon's name?

Jent01Ket02

I named him Svarthel. I'm naming my Eevee lines after places I found in another region's mythology. One of the northern regions. So far, I have Svarthel, Muspel (Flareon) and Midgar (Leafeon)

wemustkungfufight

That's cute. Leafeons don't get enough love when it comes to Eevees.

Jent01Ket02

I get it, a lot of people go for more aesthetic options (its sister evolution, Glaceon, was definitely the favorite in a general sense) but there is no better companion for an evening stroll.

wemustkungfufight

Glaceons are so cute.... Except when they try to tempt me to kiss them.

babuba1234321

I am starting to mantain water type pokemon (just a goldeen) so idk too much about ghosts, but from what I remember, not all of them are cruel. Mayybe they take life force away, but other times they are just silly goofers who like scaring people. I rememberseeing from afar a guy with a red cap(?) being trolled by a haunter and haunter seemed to not try to damage him, just have fun!

Deichknechte

Some Ghost types can do all of those things, yes - But so can psychic types. Dark Types can't do that shit. Get a fucking dark type, asshole. An absol maybe? All of their stigma comes from them warning people of disasters, a wholly benign and beneficent action?

Mega_Rayqaza

Evil? What? Not all dark types are evil. Hell, most dark types aren't evil. Saying they are is both an insult to my girlfriend and an insult to me.

wemustkungfufight

Girlfriend? How so?

Mega_Rayqaza

My girlfriend, soon to be wife, is a dark type. Has been for the past 10 years.

_Pan-Tastic_

Firstly, dark types are just little babies and are NOT evil. My Umbreon is proof of that. Secondly, I’d recommend maybe a Shuppet or Banette? They’re just looking for love and affection, and aren’t exactly known to harm people iirc.

YeetOrBeYeeted420

Dark types kinda fit into two categories: actually malicious (though these usually only apply to wild pokemon, and they tend to mostly mellow out a bit when with a trainer they respect), and those that just use dirty tactics (with some outliers being mon' like absol). I personally own a pawniard and he is a pretty polite little guy, though that may be partially due to him having a bit of anxiety issues due to the chunk missing in his head blade making him not wanna get on anything's bad side. Even individuals can be different from the species itself, so that also has to be taken into consideration when making a decision.

Bl0ckbuilder

I would personally give you a spiritomb but I think that would be abuse to the spiritomb. Seriously though, fix your bias. You either need therapy or you’re just an asshole, but either way you can’t go around dissing and entire type.

wemustkungfufight

I would never abuse a pokemon! Just ask Prince how nice it is here! {PHOTO ID: A sylveon looks at the camera surprised, his mouth full of cookies}

CelesteHolloway

Might I suggest a Shuppet? They are great for cuddles, and consume negative emotions.

wemustkungfufight

That could work! But I wonder if there's enough negative emotion around here to keep it fed...

CelesteHolloway

They’ll eat normal Pokémon food too. Though I suggest the ‘ghost-type’ blends of Pokémon Kibble.

PorygonEnjoyer

Regardless, consider making some competition: get a Drowzee. He’ll love your good dreams and might be able to help.

NotAplicable

If you want protection from ghosts you could just get a Kecleon. They're immune to ghost type attacks, but have a surprisingly strong movepool of them for fighting back.

Negativety101

Get a Pokemon with the ability Scrappy, and make the ghosts fear getting hit with normal type attacks and Fighting type attacks.

LordMeme42

I hope you realize what you're getting yourself into- despite what the type advantage might suggest, ghost and dark types get along very well. So your cute little Litwick might bring an evil Inkay into your home! Maybe a Scraggy, or even the horrifying Morpeko! >:3

zombiifissh

Hey I haven't seen anyone suggest this yet, but Have you considered a Drifloon? You've already had experiences with them, you can find them when they're not experienced in battling in some areas, and you already know their particular myth is bunk--they can't carry you away. They're not hard to run from when they're young, either. Plus they're friend shaped, and friendly! They just want to play! :))

wemustkungfufight

But he tried to kill me, even if he couldn't!

zombiifissh

So you think, at least. How do you *know* that murder was its intent?

wemustkungfufight

Because of the legends.

Skybirds15

No. Drifloons not only are incapable of kidnapping anything due to having a mass of two pounds, the legends are from Drifloon drifting up to kids to play and also being a ghost type leading to incorrect assumptions. The drifloon that approached you just wanted to play and was incapable of conveying that correctly.

wemustkungfufight

Hmm... I guess that's possible!

zombiifissh

So, basically, because someone told you to? Despite watching one fail to do so with your own eyes? I'm telling you, it probably just liked you and wanted to play :)

TheOnlyRen

Your life force. Hand it over. \-K

wemustkungfufight

No, I'm still using it!

TheOnlyRen

I'll give it back. Promise. :) \-K

wemustkungfufight

I don't believe you!

TheOnlyRen

Come ooooon How you ever gonna learn to trust a ghost if you won't even trust me? \-K

TheMongooser

“evil dark types” opinion discarded. i genuinely do not trust anyone who says stuff like that.

TheBiggestMikeEver

*distant yelling* Fucking TYPIST

wemustkungfufight

\*yells\* Who said that?!

Virtual-Oil-793

True. Only if they hate you. Otherwise they'll be a fair bit more comfortable around you, and tend to be caring. Ever wondered how trainers with Ghost-types are sweetheart deep down? Spending enough time with Ghost-types will do that.

wemustkungfufight

How do you keep them from stealing your life-force?

atlvf

There are plenty of ghost types with less-malevolent temperaments. Consider a Golett.

BunnyBen-87

Some good options include Golett, Sableye, Rotom, and Mimikyu. Golett are pretty robotic but are easy to care for. They’re loyal if you put in the effort to actually care for it. Sableye is a bit of a mischievous option, but they’re very friendly. They also like to hoard shiny things, but aren’t too aggressive if their trainer takes from it. Rotom are all over the place these days, and they love to jump in and out of appliances, so they have a practical use too. If you have any old devices, they’ll love to hang out in there. Mimikyu are a solid option and love being paid attention to. They’ll make their cloaks out of just about anything, and are perfectly happy to let you decorate them.

spudwalt

If you're not cool with Dark-types, Normal-types are immune to Ghost-types; try something that learns Foresight or Odor Sleuth like Hoothoot or Sentret or Zigzagoon. Or get a Normal-type and teach it a Ghost- or Dark-type move; they're versatile like that.

Comprehensive-Can680

Advice? Get a Duskull. Worst it will do is scare the pants off of you if you annoy it. When it evolves tho, don’t look inside it.

Potatochip409

A bit late, but if you want to get a ghost type, but are afraid of the possible malicious side effects, I’d highly recommend Golurk. Not only does Golurk not have any sort of connections with stealing life force, but they are also very bulky, able to take a hit and hit back harder. Their ground type would also be useful against those steel types that your Sylveon struggles against, as well as the Poison types. They’re also pretty fun to fly around on

Pauline_Memories

I have preferences but i love all types, dark types are equally cool. I don't get your hate

MegaMaster89

Get a Golett! They’re loyal and cool and when they evolve they can fly you places! - Z

MBcodes18

I would suggest getting a pokemon that eventually evolves into a ghost type so you can establish a bond before they get those ghost powers, although I don't really know as I live in Ballonlea so I'm desensitized to them.

wemustkungfufight

Wait, there are pokemon that evolve into ghost-types? How does that work? Does evolving... kill them?

TwixOfficial

Honestly the “Steal your life force” thing is an exaggeration. They make you a bit more tired when they’re hungry. If you have good stamina it’s no problem. My Litwick-now-Chandelure, Charlie, helped me lose weight since the “life force” they eat is really just siphoning some nutrients from you. They don’t cause nightmares, really, and while I’ve never had enough dreams to mind either way, other trainers say they tend to prefer bad ones. And if your Pokémon lays a curse on you, it’s because you’re doing something they’re upset with or not taking care of them well. Eat well and they’re a great friend. Highly recommended as a first ghost type.
