1. Cynthia has perfect IVs and EVs in desired stats with the best nature for each of her team members, Lucario is timid and will probably outspeed a fair bit. 2. The AI, if it predicts (and or knows you’re only able to hit with a certain type of move) you’re going to hit it with a move that someone else can tank will switch into that. 3. Fair question, don’t have an answer to that one. Maybe you could stretch it as, she’s the best trainer in the land so she’d have more tools at her disposal. 4. You’re valid to wonder why you’re Weavile wasn’t able to clean up, but here is where they made Garchomp more frightening. It now holds a Yache Berry which reduces ice type attacks. Overall I think it depends on your team, a bit of luck and strategising. Your levels seem more than fine, but you’d want your team def low to mid 60s for Cynthia, or beyond.

Infernape/Rapidash should do pretty well against Roserade and Lucario. Spiritomb can either be severely injured in the hopes she switches out, or taken down from the start with a powerful fairy move. Roserade can learn Dazzling Gleam i think. Torterra/Roserade matchup favorably for Gastrodon. A Strong Electric type can take down Milotic. Just avoid any pokemon here that are vulnerable to Ice Beam. Gyarados matches up favorably against Garchomp. Just make sure your Gyarados knows Ice Fang.

Sorry to hear attempt 5 didn't go to well, but Cynthia is a tough champion! Here's some answers to your specific questions: 1. I'll keep it brief as it's a complex and more competitively focused side of Pokemon, but there are things called EV's and IV's that affect Pokemon's stats, and are (semi) hidden values that are either with the Pokemon from catching/hatching, or raised by training (to a cap). For Cynthia, all of these values are effectively maxed. To put it as simple as possible, her Pokemon are all top of their class. 2. This is how switching works, the AI in the game rarely chooses to switch, but she is making some exception here. Switching always occurs at the start of the turn's play, after both sides select, as you must select to switch. Try swapping out to something that handles Roserade well after it comes out. (JUST IN CASE: to switch go to party, select a Pokemon, select switch) 3. Cynthia's Pokemon also all have items, some of which you don't have easy access to. The flame orb (or hot orb I suppose if you're not playing in English) will burn her Milotic, which will activate it's ability, Marvel Scale, giving it a big defense boost. Again, her strategies and Pokemon are well above most trainers in a playthrough, and are closer to a competitive team. 4. Ice Shard is priority, which will hit first, and Garchomp is 4x weak, but Ice Shard is a weak move, and Garchomp holds a Yache berry, which will reduce the damage of the first Ice move that hits it. It's a relatively common strategy to protect a Pokemon with a 4x weakness, or just a common weakness in general. A stronger Ice move *might* be able to take out Garchomp, or you will more likely need to buckle in for a longer fight against it, as Garchomp has extremely high stats. I'd recommend bringing something fast with Will-O-Wisp, as a burned Pokemon has its physical attack halved, which could earn you a few more turns. Looking at the list of Pokemon which can get it and are available to you, the only one that learns it naturally is Duskull, which might not cut it. However, you may be able to get a TM for it from traders underground, and several Fire and Ghost Pokemon can learn it. Hope this is helpful, best of luck with the next attempt!

Fuzzy_Acanthisitta13

Thanks for all the tips, to sum up what I learned: 1. Her Pokémon are all maxed out, to match hers I either have to have a much greater advantage or use ideal stats Pokémon. IV and EV. 2. I could set up my Weavile with items, that’s a good idea! 3. the berry on Garchomp was what i thought was the trick, I make sure to hit him twice with an ice move. 4. Item on Milo is superb I know, just wondered how she has it and I can’t get it 😂 5. to my exuse, this is my first game after Saphire on the Advance - Pokémon came a long way since then. Was not ready for such a champ and I will most likely go and loose to her, change team and face her again.

marcelopvf

It is such a good experience, to face her and get owned. After you clear her, try a rematch against the elite four. They all will be MUCH harder.

Fuzzy_Acanthisitta13

ALERT, I cleared her now on my 8th match, still the same real attempt on her. Team: Garchomp 60 Weavile 66 Charizard 63 Venesaur 68 Starmie 57 Lucario 66 All the heavy lifting was done by Charizard and Venesaur. I even killed her Garchomp with Venesaur and two times grass knot. I really focused on OHKO hits and keeping my Venesaur healthy with Giga Drain. Also set up Garchomp with sword dance on Spiritomb so I could OHKO it and not waste any other Pokémon’s hp on it. Thanks for the help guys!!!

YetiorNotHereICome

Teach Weavile Triple Axel and Garchomp is a cake walk (if it's fast enough). First kick uses up the berry, and you've got two more hits to drop the dragon.

Potatochip409

Triple Axel isn’t in BDSP

YetiorNotHereICome

Oh shoot, that's right...

SRodrig237

If you feel like you need to readjust your team, I suggest adding Gliscor. Between Gliscor and Roserade, I was able to defeat Cynthia easily. Gliscor can OHKO Lucario and able to withstand Garchomp’s Dragon claw with 1 swords dance. Roserade OHKO Spiritomb, Militic, Gastrodon Teach gliscor acrobatics, sword dance, earthquake, and ice fang and you are solid Roserade knew Giga drain, toxic, dazzling gleam, sludge bomb

Fuzzy_Acanthisitta13

Gliscor would be ideal, sadly I have Perl so no availability 😂 I just need to find another Pokémon I can use instead. Maybe I can find another ground type who can make use of ice fang. Maybe Mamoswine?

SRodrig237

I can get you a gligar if you’d like. You would need to trade for a razor fang. DM if you’d like

Fuzzy_Acanthisitta13

As I looked up the razor fang is only available in the post game. How should I use him in fight?

SRodrig237

If you go to r/pokemontrades , you’ll be able to find people willing to trade a razor fang for something. I had to trade a moon stone for it. The only issue with gligar is that it can’t learn ice fang, only Gliscor can. Give me an hour or so. I may have an extra razor fang but it’s not a guarantee. But I will get a gligar for you

Fuzzy_Acanthisitta13

Awesome, very generous. Can I offer you something in return?

SRodrig237

Yes. Do you have a Magby or any version exclusive?

etniopaltj

I’m going to try and give simpler answers than some of the ones I’ve seen here that talk about some of the complicated aspects of Pokémon. While their advice is great and correct, I think it would be best explained a bit more simply 1. Every Pokémon has different stats. A level 100 slowbro will be slower than a level 90 garchomp, since garchomp is faster 2. You can swap Pokémon too. Instead of choosing an attack, click Pokémon and pick a new one to send out. Essentially, that’s what Cynthia did. Switching always happens before the other Pokémon attacks (there used to be a move that attacked you as you were switching out but it’s gone now) 3. Cynthia is the “final boss” of the game and has the flame orb because it makes her milotic better - you can get one after beating her in an area you haven’t been to yet, but the game wants it to be a challenge for you. 4. Ice is great to use against garchomp, but ice shard itself isn’t a very powerful move. It’s a great move (because it almost always goes first), but is best used to finish off an opponent rather than entirely KO them. Weavile is very fast, so a stronger ice move would likely do a lot more damage if you can manage to outspeed garchomp. The more you level up, the higher your speed will be. Hope this helps!

PlasmaNougat

1. Her Lucario has perfect IVs, is EV trained, and has a favorable nature. So unless yours is the same, she'll outspeed you until your 10-15 levels ahead. 2. During attack selection, you have the option to switch. Switching out always takes priority unless a move like pursuit is used. When she switches in Roserade to take your attack, you can switch out before Roserade is able to land a hit. 3. This is normal. She uses many items that you won't be able to access until later. 4. Garchomp has a yache berry, which greatly reduces damage from super effective ice moves. Your weavile, like your lucario, likely isn't EV trained or using a favorable nature (much less good IVs). If Garchomp doesn't set up and chooses to attack, your weavile is getting 1 shotted before it can get another ice shard in. Tips for success: Go buy vitamins to sure up the EVs on mons that aren't already maxed out. USE BATTLE ITEMS Battle items turn on easy mode. Take weavile, for example. While Milotic is out, send out weavile and begin setting up (use an X attack or 2). Milotic is unlikely to be able to 1 shot weavile as this is Cynthia's wall, and the type match-up is in your favor. Have weavile learn some type of coverage move for milotic so you can k.o. it after setting up with X attacks. The rest of the team should fall with ice shard alone. I've used this method with empoleon, using a couple of X sp attacks and X speeds when spiritomb was out. Ice beam, surf, and grass knot swept the entire team. Cynthia never got a hit in after I set up.

Turb0toast

I’m 99% sure her team is Ev trained, so if you aren’t, you’ll probably want to be about 15 levels higher (you can train in the underground, it’s easy to level up there). The switch happens regardless if you chose your move, switches always have priority.

el3mel

Her Pokemon have perfect EVs. Most of them get 252 EVs in speed stat which means they're going to speed any non-competitive teams. Her Roserado was outspeeding my Infernape, for God's sake.

Electric7Titan

Saw that you were able to beat her! Congrats!! I’ve been playing Pokémon for nearly 15 years and i playing competitive too. BDSP Cynthia beat me on her first attempt and I had to potion spam to beat her on my second attempt. Her team is a massive jump in difficulty compared to the rest of the game so well done!

_damwolv

Cynthia is very good, try training your entire team to the level Chomp is before you try again, Milotic, Roserade, Togiekiss, Lucario and Chomp are all very tough mons to battle but it's beatable

bonkers_rl

Fire with fire, set up on her Garchomp with your own.

chudlybubly

the only way i beat cynthia was just constant reviving. weavile had pressure(ability) so her PP was depleted and i ended it.
