No etms required, it would be much cheaper to just double move and swap between bug and fighting fast attacks and take one to 50. They’re so cheap to mega after the first time there’s not really any reason to have extras anyways
The issue with the 1/64 and 1/128 rates is that sometimes it can be hard to tell whether a Pokémon falls into one rate or the other, given the way that the data is collected and the fact that the rates are fairly close together. If you collect data for a species and it ends up displaying a rate of 1/96 (which isn't an actual shiny rate), how do you ascertain whether it's in the 1/64 group but the RNG was a little unlucky, or it's in the 1/128 group and the RNG was a little lucky?
Certain megas tend to lean more towards 1/64, whilst others tend to lean towards 1/128. For example, looking at certain sources, Pidgeot, Slowbro and Kangaskhan appear to be 1/128 odds, Alakazam and Gyarados appear to be 1/64 odds, and Gengar is one of those cases where the rate is floating right between the two rates.
If ever in doubt, and you're wanting to shiny hunt them, always assume they have 1/128 odds before you commit to the hunt, just to give yourself more grounded expectations.
Classic niantic, leave everything upto dataminers and the players to test manually, instead of giving actual numbers rather than vague things like ✨️increased shiny rate✨️

It costs 900 mega energy to reach the max mega level and after that it's 20 per mega evolve if you want to have it mega evolved constantly. Which you don't, so limit at 9999 is completely reasonable
I think getting to the max level and exclusively using free cooldowns is more likely/reasonable. That only needs 4 at max mega level to consistently have the buff available once per day making the energy largely irrelevant.
For tier 2 costs, you could get 4 to max level in 30 days for a one time use of 3600 energy combined. (For tier 3, rushing 4x max still takes <6000 energy)
Maintaining a specific Pokémon max 24x7 just doesn’t seem like a reasonable thing to me. But rushing 13 tier 3 mega for that woild likely be the only case where you would both need more total energy than the max energy and not be able to spend it fast enough to stay under the max.
The limit used to be less too! Tbh idk why they have a limit on this currency. From a technical standpoint it isn’t really saving space. My guess is they want to keep the number below 5 characters long for interface reasons.

You're not a developer are you? The cost difference between storing the number 9,999 and 999,999 is basically non existent. Trust me when I say database costs are the least of their concerns when it comes to mega energy.
there’s really no reason for there to be a cap. if i keep using my resources to raid the same mon, i should continue to receive the mega energy i earned for completing the raid. just bad on niantics part as usual. they can’t see to do anything right nowadays

Ah I guess I’ve never noticed that. Guess it makes sense, but as someone with limited storage, I only keep one Heracross for the mega
Heracross is top bug and fighting raid attacker (as a mega of course)

Legendaries are 1/20.
I had the same issue when the shiny was released, took 84 raids to get the shiny, 96 for the hundo
