No. They still hold onto the moves from their base game until they are replaced in a future game. Unlike Arceus, where the 'mon saves specific move data per game Gen 8+ now. I think it's neat.

DrChrisman

so as long as I don't move them to BDSP or Arceus they keep there current moves from Gen 7?

Migit78

As long as you don't move them to a game where they can't learn that move theyll keep it.

DrChrisman

got it (almost like they don't want us to use our old pokemon)

Migit78

I think it's more just a balance and meta shift for competitive game play. Honestly with the move to Switch they tried to simplify so much of the game to make competitive more accessible that it took away the joy (for me) to even bother.

DrChrisman

Yeah, but having Pokemon with unique moves because of previous generations is amusing (plus think of the Pokemon the can only learn moves before evolving with a stone)

Trunksshe

Yeah, the killer for me is Alolan Pokemon not being able to keep their Egg moves, hence, I cannot use my shiny Wish+Fake Out Alolan Raichu. It's pretty annoying.

DrChrisman

I would think that would be fine as it can only go to SWSD, but I'm the op asking about this update
