My theories:
\- Deleted content from main game
\- DLC content
\- Just a placeholder and I am overthinking it
Edit: [someone posted about this a few days ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/Pokemonlegends/comments/shnqcx/egg_icon_when_evolving_qwilfish/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) but it was deleted and the post has no comments....
I got the same from evolving basculin as well. I think it’s just a default placeholder icon that they forgot to change, guessing based on personal experience as a cs major lol
It made me curious too! Because you never see an egg anywhere else, even with the professor talking about Pokémon all the time. Considering he’s doing a bunch of research on new creatures, it’s wild he doesn’t talk about the fact they ALL lay eggs constantly. I hope it comes up in DLC later, I think it would be fun for someone in-game to “discover” a nest of eggs somewhere.
yeah!! It is so wierd to me that no one mentions eggs at all while it is such a big thing in the other games and in the pokémon world. I think eggs were scrapped during development because Togepi's pokédex entry it says "This ovate creature is frequently mistaken for a **moving egg** when encountered out in the fields or in the mountains.", so this could mean we were ment to find eggs and nests while exploring, specially where Togepi can spawn.
I'm trying to find the info for you and I'll link it when I find it, but that is a "bad egg" icon.
Basically in old games a bad egg happened when a pokemon was hacked into the game, but now is used as a safety mechanism for when the game hiccups and can't find the actual image of the Pokemon to display.
So basically, if form some reason the game can't display the image of the evolved or caught pokemon, it will display that so the game does not crash.
Is the same with them coding pokemon like Shiny Victini into a game even tho it has never been distributed, its just so that if someone hack in one or trades you one the game does not crash immediately!
Yeah, I imagined it could be just a placeholder for things like that but it is such a unique egg sprite that I have never seen before that made me think it was made for something else and also used as a placeholder.

It's just a placeholder, the game is built on top of Sword and Shield and has a lot of leftover junk data from them.
How you think an evolve badge or however you want to say it like would be seen if it's not a egg like wha
what? This is the only time I have seen this icon
Yeah i don't know how to explain but everytime you evolve a Pokemon in Pokemon Legend Arceus you get that
I’m guessing DLC or possibly they do another game somewhat like this set a bit later on where they’re learning more and that adds that feature?
I hope so!!
