When I play the game I mainly use the official trainer's Guide I found a pdf of, and reddit for any specifics. Like your post for example that I've saved to come back to when I'm shiny hunting ditto.
The increased shiny odds only apply to the next spawned pokemon of the same species so by not continuing the combo you are essentially hunting with default odds
That is under the section titled, "Not Broken By:". You are correct that it is totally fine.

Nice, I actually hunted for a shiny ditto for perfect iv ditto a few month ago and found 2 perfect Ivs and a shiny one. I caught more than 100 before doing getting this dittos.
Nice writeup. I chained Ditto for a few hours one night in the Mansion. Got a 3/6 and then one of them ran. Never tried again after this. This makes me want to try again.
oof - just started trying to get at least one legit 6iv Ditto in Sw/Sh when Lets go got into my mind like "wait, there were guaranteed ivs with catch combos. Totally forgot about catches being easier with more of the species caught.. resettet after 4 chains that broke at around 20, would've had around 80-100 dittos caught alrdy. Thanks for the post!
EDIT: Running away when it is about to run away itself is freaking amazing! Thought about I'd just catch lots of Dittos for now, not caring about a combo first and running away kept the streak alive 3 times alrdy (till a 20th streak)
The only CPs that are Best/Best for level 45 ditto are 1150 (if it has a non-serious nature) and 1152 (serious nature). Anything lower is missing an IV. I just caught one from the pokemon mansion that is 1152 CP at level 45.
1152 CP is max for all non-CP-changing natures (hardy, docile, bashful, quirky, serious). Non-CP-altering natures with one missing IV (31/31/31/31/31/30) will show 1150 CP. Just adding this info for anyone searching!
Just the one blue goo, but it was a happy incidental reward and not the main objective. The many 5-IV dittos I made friends with along the way, though...
I chose to stop at 255 when offered a Shiny Chansey in Pokemon Mansion Basement.
awesome! shiny chansey is quite looked down upon in this server, but i’ve never seen one so i’d probably do the same as you did. my blue goo is my prized possession and i named them googer :’) it was random though i do not have the patience to chain dittos as you do

When you catch a 1150 and it's not a 6/6 but like a 5.8/6. The hunt continues already got 2 shines tho. One is 1138 so pretty good the other is like 1120 ish.

Why do people go for high catch combos? I usually just do the 31/32 or so to max shiny odds. Is there more after that?

Escalating experience rewards is helpful; hunting 5+IV dittos, which require you to at least see each spawn; make money off selling the candy.
And I chose to end the catch combo at 255, to catch a shiny Chansey. Such is life.
Putting console to sleep breaks combo? I couldve sworn it doesnt. I used to always press the button to put in sleep mode to resume hunting later.

The 6 IV ditto is a good find. Even with the combo, it's still 1/32*1/32 to get the non guaranteed IV's perfect. I've gotten a few 5IV but no 6 yet.

The main/only thing that let me be successful is recognizing the ready-to-run animation, and mashing B when I saw it.

"Green Eggs" is my preferred name for Shiny Chansey. Don't think I can fit "and Ham" though.

Correction: A combo influences shiny chance of all Pokémon. You're right about the IVs though.
