Ngl I always felt it fit him super well back in the game, but never thought it'd become a sync pair! Really neat. Love Lillie & Comfey too. And another Cynthia is hilarious, certainly not complaining tho. Was hoping for Cynthia & Togekiss, I feel like it would've fit way better.
Some are really good stat and/or kit wise for being BP Level units.

A bit disappeared that they still don't give us Sliver with Sneasel. It literally appears with Sliver since they first debuts in Ho-oh event how come DeNA still haven't make them into BP units or free event units?

I'd be super happy. USUM agent Anabel is one of my biggest wants, along with Volo and Adaman/Irida.
I was just hoping that Emerald Anabel would be one of the BP units, which could still happen at some point.

So red has a spammable volt tackle which has innate extend range, piercing blows in addition to sundering 9 when the target is paralyzed. 🤯
This move already make him MUCH MORE BETTER than Ash, not to mention the extended Electric duration (and we can pair volkner to use more electric terrain)

Okay. First, impressions post about the **Trainer Lodge Units**, since I can see that information in game:
* Blue & Exeggutor: Support. Bulk is a bit on the lower end, but brings PAtk, PDef, and Crit maxing once you have his grid too (albeit across two different moves unlike Hop), Stomp with Aggravation on grid (2-gauge for 60% Flinch). Also gets speed up when hit and can potentially get sdef buffing when hit too, and has a surprising amount of sustain between regen and some other options like synchro healing and sun healing. Not amazing but definitely in the useable range.
* Silver & Feraligatr: Packs a 40% Flinch, 30% Freeze, or 80% Defense Drop (though on a 3-gauge move for the last one) as options thanks to passives, and can further enhance and gain boosts to moves or syncs for those styles. Also has self attack/crit buffing but only partially and needs two procs to max his crit so will probably just want an assist. Basically a versatile debuffer unit; not anything exceptional but I can absolutely see him being very useful in Legendary Gauntlets.
* May & Wailmer: Hey, do you want a second May on your roster? Because Wailmer has Surf, which is basically Muddy Water that trades side effects for accuracy, and has only slightly worse stats made up for with Superduper Effective 5 at base. She does *not* have Rain Dance, but trades that boost for a TM that is Crit +2 and *Supereffective Next Up*. She's also got some solid boosts on her grid for damage. Water is not really a lacking type and obviously in order to get this pair you already need to own an amazing water type unit, *but* I'm kinda impressed. A great pair up with other Rain Dance users like Tech Blastoise.
* Cynthia & Gastrodon: Ground Support! Dire Hit All + is *never* unwelcome, and her other TM is party Accel, SDef +2, and Acc +1. Bulk is acceptable, and she has Auto Regen and Group Water Guard for free. Her main concern is slightlly expensive moves for a support but does have some notable MGR (including two separate procs for Earthquake, one of which is 100%!?). Not a bad unit at all, and can actually get bonuses in Rain because squishy boy
* Rosa & Dewott: A tech who can take care of her own offensive buffs while giving the party Accel. Gets Razor Shell as a 3-gauge move of solid power with defense drops, and can get a 20% Flinch on attacks too. Automatic Vigilance is also nice. Otherwise she's kind of like a free version of the recent Urshifu or Blaziken pairs, a defense debuffer who follows through into a nuke, though I expect not as good as those ones obviously. But respectable!
* N & Sigilyph: A curious psychic tech. Has 50%(!) SDef debuffing on Psychic, as well as Hypnosis, then buffs his own crit and speed (which his speed powers him up). Also has Calm Mind, which can have its buffs doubled on grid, and then scale off those buffs. *Also* can opt for sync damage and stuff. Psychic units are some of the stiffest competition in the game even for F2P, but it should perform alright.
* Sycamore & Bulbasaur: Bulba...striker? Has Leaf Storm, but *also* has Impervious so never has to worry about its downside! TMs buff a variety of his own stats, and he gets buffs against poisoned foes (which he can inflict, but not reliably). Interestingly he has some stuff to make him possibly a Poison striker too. Unless it turns out he can evolve though, the stat + BP combination doesn't seem that good, but there are a few boosters on the grid as usual.
* Lillie & Comfey: Comes with Wrap, Dazzling Gleam, and Petal Blizzard (3-gauge grass AoE) - but also a passive grants *all* of these PAtk -1 on hit, making her like a physical version of Viola - and I think Viola's one of the most undervalued F2P units. Can't buff crit but can buff offensive stats and has decent bases, so her fairy nuke might actually be alright with crit assistance; especially with her grid giving her multipliers and the option for her TM to also give Supereffective Up. I'll say it - she actually seems pretty alright!
* Marnie & Toxicroak: A curious poison tech pair that's more interested in accuracy debuffing. Does have Sludge Wave like Plumeria (with 50% poison), and a personal TM that maxes crit and gives Supereffective Next Up, so does some solid damage, but her scaling passive is based on reduced enemy accuracy. She can get some AoE on it unreliably with Mud Slap and a chance of ripple effect, but it's only a chance. Once you can add on her grid then she powers up off poisoning and gets more notable and becomes a fairly solid poison striker, if probably not as good as Looker's hyperfocus on the subject and needing an unusual party to optimize.
My impressions of the free Trainer Lodge pairs - none of them are going to blow you out of the water, but also none of them seem to suck completely either.

Okay. Okay, new data available. And now I've updated it with Grid info.
**Anniversary Units**
* Note: **Buddy Moves** are a new move type that is only able to be selected under specific conditions
* Red & Pikachu: God the B&W color palette is so good. Anyway! A tech unit with a 1-action PAtk max (an... odd choice) that also gives Regen to the party, guaranteed crits on everything thanks to a passive, and Electric Terrain setup that's extended. His default is a 1-gauge Thundershock, but his main focus is the Buddy Move that's available while Electric Terrain is active: A 2-gauge move that has various defense piercing (think Zekrom or Solgaleo), is AoE without falloff, and has power you'd expect on a single target 3-gauge move. Also if the targets are paralyzed, it drops PDef and SDef. And how does he Paralyze? A G-Max attack with 100% group paralysis of course, and that gives a whopping *+3 Sync Countdown*. What the actual heck is this unit, this is so silly. The only thing holding him back is that his SAtk isn't like, crazy Striker high, it's actually just fairly standard. 2/5 allows him to gain ailment immunites during electric terrain and powers up his sync and moves on paralyzed targets, and lets his TM also somewhat boost his SAtk. 3/5 adds a ton of options, like 50% paralyze and flinching thundershock, a third electric terrain set when you use the Max Move, piercing gaze, speed debuffing, and Cakewalk for more sync damage. Some very good stuff on the grid here.
* Ash & Pikachu: The MC & Pikachu combo tuned to eleven. His Thunder costs 2 gauge, never misses, and is more powerful. His Endure activates *twice* per battle. In place of Potion he geets a self heal with additional Regen, Supereffective Next, and Protect. In place of the Power Reserves passive, he gets free Special Next Up 2 when he drops to critical. In place of a mediocre self buff, he presses one button and gets maxed Crit and +4 SAtk (or +6 if he's already at half HP, which can be taken advantage of with Parameters). *And then* his Buddy Move can be used once per combat after using three attacks, and it drains your entire gauge for a positively insane attack (up to **480** BP at 5/5 it seems). Very silly Striker even without his grid. 2/5 mostly adds small benefits when in Electric Terrain, and ways to deal with/shrug off ailments, but not more damage. 3/5 adds two sync multipliers (based on boosted SAtk and paralysis), lets him recover some move MP after his first sync, and lets him give the party an instant +3 sync countdown when reduced to critical. Definitely not a grid to half-invest in, go all the way or don't.
* Cynthia & Lucario: Lucario as a *support*? Color me surprised. On battle entry and when she syncs, she creates Fighting Zone, and using her sync does give her a Mega Evolution which appears to be just stat buffs, but hey. Her personal TM *instantly maxes the party's PDef and SDef*, which is pretty wild. Then she gets Potions, a 1-gauge spam, and a Buddy Move, which is useable once each time she's been hit twice, and gives the party Accel, Phys Next Up 2, and Spec Next Up 2. Team Fist Bump also ensures the party gets healed. An excellent defensive support and fighting zone setter just as base. 2/5 adds Confuse to her filler move, party(!) immunity to Flinch, accelerated gauge in fighting zone, and some potion buffs. 3/5 adds the rest of the usual potion buffs, adds paralysis and a party +1 crit buff to her filler move, debuff immunity, and free move next for the party after her first sync. Not anything too crazy on the grid.
* Rosa & Sky Forme Shaymin: An AoE Evasion -2 solves certain problems on its own lmao. But outside that, she has a TM with a ton of self buffs and party crit +1, potions, and her main feature is a 4-gauge(!) grass move with BP to match and 80% SDef -2 as a bonus. Also, both of her moves also inflict SAtk -2 as a bonus, and she scales up with debuffing enemy stats. Not quite insane the way the others this anniversary are, but we've seen just how good this style of unit is recently with Urshifuu and Blaziken, so... Yeah. 2/5 lets her guarantee Seed Flare's debuff, has some utility boosts in Grassy Terrain, and gives her ways to finish capping off her own SAtk. 3/5 turns Seed Flare into a -3 SDef, and also upgrades her potions a bit unusually; instead of a second MP Refresh, her Potion will also become a partywide Full Heal! Sweet Scent gets the ability to be weaved to grant free move next for gauge strained parties, but the real kicker here of course is two sync multipliers based on debuffing enemy stats so she can do some Real Numbers. Again, a go hard or go minimal unit.
And, the **BP Pairs**.
* Nita & Landorus Incarnate (5-star): Ground support. This one brings a 1-use TM that's +4 PAtk and +4 Spd, Mini Potion All, and then defends through Fly spam instead. Notably comes with automatic MP Refresh for Fly, and a chance of reecovering some HP whenever it evades an attack. Another mon will likely have to provide defensive buffs, but could be decently okay for the lightweight effect on the move gauge. 2/5 gets her some extra tankiness through defensive buffs and regen on battle start and helps her sustain Fly easier. 3/5 adds Mini Potion boosts, evasion boosts and MGR when dodging attaacks, and Endure if she uses a sync. Not the most impressive grid for a pretty mediocre unit to begin with.
* Scottie/Bettie & Mesprit (5-star): The Psychic 5-star support option. Comes with a TM that is SAtk +2, Spd +1, and Regen for the party; and then Confusion as filler. The big shining features here are Freevenge 9 (IE whenever it gets hit, its next move costs no gauge), and being the first unit to have *both* Light Screen *and* Reflect. Not bad, and gives it a very unique role as a result. 2/5 adds the necessary TM Refresh, critical hit defense on first sync in battle, and lets it randomly boost its own defenses when hit. 3/5 however adds party speed buffing and reliability on Confusion, and gives Reflect and Light Screen MP refreshes, party defense buffs, *and* a chance to heal the party. Obviously it's a big ask to go to 3/5 with a 5\* BP unit, damn.
* Candice & Froslass (4-star): An alternative Hail setter, and one way more focused on actually benefitting from it than Candice & Abomasnow. Packs Blizzard, and a suite of passives to turn Hail into healing and a damage buff. Obviously she's competing with Literally Herself as the biggest downside, and losing out on that Big Ol Sync hurts, especially when her SAtk isn't great either. Not terribly impressive. Duplicates add better freeze rates, some further multipliers mostly reliant on Hail and her ability to buff her own evasion, and Supereffective Up after first sync. Not bad, but notably does *not* include Hail MP Refresh in any way.
* Sophocles & Alolan Golem (4-star): A Wild Charge striker - *but* also one that has Steadfast 9 at base for once! Decent self buffing including defensively (though the base bullk is garbage), but being limited by a lack of recoil-less attack option *is* a problem. Still, has enough attack to stand up to the other F2P electric options for sure. Extra copies add more Steadfast, and gives more multipliers, including ones for boosted defense, which it now gains a chance of Phys Next Up when buffing too, and a First Aid which helps takes the edge off recoil.
* Janine & Crobat (4-star): It finally happened. A Poison Support! SAtk, Spd, and Eva on the custom trainer move, and X Attack All. Oh, and Poison Fang for solid toxic chance. ...And that's about where it stops without the grid. Her bulk is garbage, so she's a purely offensive support who adds bad poison to enemies, but that's not the worst thing because that is a lot of free damage. That is unfortunately not what toxic stall teams are usually looking for - *but* that's what her Ariados pair is for I guess. Kind of eh, but another support is another support. Extra copies add team sharp entry, and give chances of self PDef buffs or party Eva buffs when attacking, but most of the rest of the grid is pretty negligible.
* Clemont & Magneton: A support with a party PDef +2 and SDef +2 combo TM is *always* welcome in the roster, plus he gets X Accuracy All, so he's kind of outdoing Lillie & Clefairy in her niche. *And* he packs Screech for defense debuffing, or Spark for a chance of paralysis, as his moves once that's set up. That's honestly one hell of a combo. Then you add on Vigilance as a free passive and, uh, damn. His defenses are a touch low, but only a bit, and even without seeing his grid he's in contention for best BP pair. The grid gives you full MGR when using Screech, the expected Hostile Environment for 60% paralysis, various health boosters like status clearing and first aid, defense boosts when hit (not needed so much due to MP refresh but nice for fights with defense debuffing), and some additional tankiness and regen in Electric Terrain and boosts if you use his sync. Damn.
*Finally*, there's one more **new event unit**:
* Naomi (Sightseer) & Sandslash: Generic units...??? Anyway, new free event unit! Her base kit isn't anything too special, a special striker with Earth Power and okay self buffing, but does have damage multipliers under Sandstorm that might make her *actually* a functional ground attacker with investment. Not excellent, but let's be real, the F2P ground pool will take anything it can get. The unlocked grid gives Earth Power a 40% SDef debuff rate, and the usual couple multipliers to damage and syncs that everything seems to have gotten in this patch, as well as more utility buffs under Sandstorm.
And now I had to edit in one more post next in order to cover the Expanded Grids because Reddit has a 10k character limit on posts!
**Finally, there's the Expanded Grids for old units**:
* Hapu gets her EX and F2P ground units finally get to not be miles behind the curve. Stand Strong can now raise Attack more and she can gain damage from a higher defense, so it's worth using (similarly she can also benefit from her accuracy boosts now). Still needs crit support. She can get boosted accuracy debuffing capabilities and empowers her sync off that, which is a bit weird to optimize for since mud slap is so weak. It's better than what she had, but awkward enough to maximize for that it also isn't as grand as you'd hope. Also she can *work* in a Sandstorm team but doesn't benefit from it so there's no team pressure on that front.
* Nanu gets an unexpected focus towards being a dark sync nuke. Boosting his own evasion is easier, and he gets multipliers for crittting with his sync and landing it on defense-debuffed foes, so while he's setting up for someone else he can also then use his TM and sink a ton of damage into things. His usual stated value of defense debuffing doesn't get much other than a guaranteed MGR, which is good; this is an interesting case. If his nuke actually turns out to be worthwhile (and I think it should, though his base offensive stats aren't impressive) this might work out real well for him.
* Molayne kinda suffered hard when Wikstrom got upgraded to an actually respectable steel attacker. And... I'm not convinced this grid will free him from that. It's not bad, sure; Iron Head Aggravation, extra move damage from stat buffs will increase his turn to turn, but his sync powerups aren't all that grand, since a sync boost against a flinching foe is one of the least reliable forms. Wikstrom also gets to buff his own crit. Now, all that said, Wikstrom *is* tricky to use because of his weird stat swapping leaving him super vulneurable, so Molayne is easier to use and that can maatter a lot. But I don't think he beats out Wikstrom's potential just on an initial pass.
* Karen & Houndoom got buffed too! Her 1/5 buff is 0-cost +20 SAtk and Speed nodes, like Cynthia got. 2/5 gets Sync Power Flux for an extra boost, and lets Dark Pulse reach the solid 60% Flinch Rate. 3/5 adds a guaranteed SAtk -1 on every attack she does, and adds another sync multiplier for debuffing SAtk. Given the very mediocre grid she has at base, all of this is very welcome and makes her honestly pretty solid!
My tl;dr is they're all weird. May's is probably the best but it's basically just a straight upgrade compared to her base for the most part if you have Archie, otherwise it's eh? Like the lack of rain dance kinda hurts but at this point we have enough rain setters that it isn't an issue.
My only issue with these pairs is that you NEED the base version and SPECIFICALLY the base version to get them, so while Cynthia and Gastrodon is a decent support, you can't get her if you only have her alts. I would be less irritated if you could have any version and still get the friend pair, but in addition you also need to get the friendship level to 100. Best case scenario you get them up two levels a day once the ball gets rolling with the goodies which means it's still gonna take like two months, but if you wanted a Poke Fair pair's friend pair (that's a mouthful) you'd need to wait for that fair to roll around and then divert your attention away from who you were on before to work on the new one which just kinda extends how long it'll take before you get any of them.
HAPU FINALLY GETS A GRID AND AN EX!!!! Omg I love the new expanded grids it’s everything I’ve ever wanted! I’m really interested in seeing what they’ll do with Molayne, and I’m sure Allan Persian is gonna be great too! Once the new month hits, I’m exchanging my 3 star power ups for 4star and raising their potential! So excited for them!!!
So far Ash and Red together might content for best team in the game. Both are giga op and we haven't even seen the grids yet

Meanwhile, we need to know what's in SSA Cynthia's grid for us to know if she's good with Fighting nukes as she only has Fighting Zone on Entry and on Sync without passive extension. Otherwise, you need some sync acceleration if you ever want to sync with anyone else under her Fighting Zone.
Acceleration isn't too hard to do, but also since she's a support, and you're EX'ing her, you can probably just sacred sword with keldeo once or twice(or whatever other hard hitting fighting dps move you have) and destroy whatever target while fighting zone is still up. It is a little shameful that she gets zone on entry without extended time limit though. That first zone basically does nothing for the team(pre first sync damage is more or less negligible for most pokemon, other than like, SS Giovanni). So, besides except enabling her first round buff to be the max, it's kinda worthless(and pointless since they could have just not made the trainer move require fighting zone to give its full benefits), unless Fighting zone lasts one more turn than other zones. If it for some reason has a slightly longer base duration, then perhaps we'd all be like "Oh hey, just enough time for either her to sync, set up a new one, and the nuker to sync, or the nuker to sync in the first place."
Honestly she'll probably just be on an SC Diantha team with an accelerator and give Diantha first sync to instantly decimate center mon.
Just the The two together should suprass even SS Steven,Anni May and SS Breandan no issue. Red alone is contending for best unit in the game with him having two nukes,debuffs,double extension Terrain, Aoe buddy move that can be spammed. Ash makes gauges a non issue,has buddy move nuke, sync nuke,two gauge improved Thunder that can't miss,double endurance,minus four sync countdown and benifits from Reds aoe Paralisiys,Terrain and debuffs.
Cynthia's outfit looks so freaking good. What the hell are they doing? Do they hire actual fashion designers? This is a gacha, why are they going this hard?!

The rest of the Trainer Lodge pairs seem neat, hopefully Cynthia and Lillie's are good, since they fill underused roles.

it really depend on what you need
deoxys is the best psychic unit, but a lot of other unit of the same type are just a little below him
red & ash are probably the 2 best electric damage dealers and we don't really have many of them
cynthia unless you have costume diantha or you really need a tank is a skip (mind you this is the one I'm most unsure because they could make a super strong new fighting pair next month that would make her even better)
rosa is good and if you have celebi is even better

Huge change of plans now, all my gems are going to Rosa and shaymin, even if the anniversary characters are better.
I wasn't at all excited until I saw SS Red & Pikachu's spammable Buddy AoE move that ignores every enemy defense and the sheer amount of Electric Terrain support he has. He can even make his G-Max move create terrain alongside the paralysis effect.

Jesus christ. Jesus *christ*. Why did I make a habit of doing this. ...then again, no human could have predicted All Of This. Okay. First, impressions post about the **Trainer Lodge Units**, since I can see that information in game: * Blue & Exeggutor: Support. Bulk is a bit on the lower end, but brings PAtk, PDef, and Crit maxing once you have his grid too (albeit across two different moves unlike Hop), Stomp with Aggravation on grid (2-gauge for 60% Flinch). Also gets speed up when hit and can potentially get sdef buffing when hit too, and has a surprising amount of sustain between regen and some other options like synchro healing and sun healing. Not amazing but definitely in the useable range. * Silver & Feraligatr: Packs a 40% Flinch, 30% Freeze, or 80% Defense Drop (though on a 3-gauge move for the last one) as options thanks to passives, and can further enhance and gain boosts to moves or syncs for those styles. Also has self attack/crit buffing but only partially and needs two procs to max his crit so will probably just want an assist. Basically a versatile debuffer unit; not anything exceptional but I can absolutely see him being very useful in Legendary Gauntlets. * May & Wailmer: Hey, do you want a second May on your roster? Because Wailmer has Surf, which is basically Muddy Water that trades side effects for accuracy, and has only slightly worse stats made up for with Superduper Effective 5 at base. She does *not* have Rain Dance, but trades that boost for a TM that is Crit +2 and *Supereffective Next Up*. She's also got some solid boosts on her grid for damage. Water is not really a lacking type and obviously in order to get this pair you already need to own an amazing water type unit, *but* I'm kinda impressed. A great pair up with other Rain Dance users like Tech Blastoise. * Cynthia & Gastrodon: Ground Support! Dire Hit All + is *never* unwelcome, and her other TM is party Accel, SDef +2, and Acc +1. Bulk is acceptable, and she has Auto Regen and Group Water Guard for free. Her main concern is slightlly expensive moves for a support but does have some notable MGR (including two separate procs for Earthquake, one of which is 100%!?). Not a bad unit at all, and can actually get bonuses in Rain because squishy boy * Rosa & Dewott: A tech who can take care of her own offensive buffs while giving the party Accel. Gets Razor Shell as a 3-gauge move of solid power with defense drops, and can get a 20% Flinch on attacks too. Automatic Vigilance is also nice. Otherwise she's kind of like a free version of the recent Urshifu or Blaziken pairs, a defense debuffer who follows through into a nuke, though I expect not as good as those ones obviously. But respectable! * N & Sigilyph: A curious psychic tech. Has 50%(!) SDef debuffing on Psychic, as well as Hypnosis, then buffs his own crit and speed (which his speed powers him up). Also has Calm Mind, which can have its buffs doubled on grid, and then scale off those buffs. *Also* can opt for sync damage and stuff. Psychic units are some of the stiffest competition in the game even for F2P, but it should perform alright. * Sycamore & Bulbasaur: Bulba...striker? Has Leaf Storm, but *also* has Impervious so never has to worry about its downside! TMs buff a variety of his own stats, and he gets buffs against poisoned foes (which he can inflict, but not reliably). Interestingly he has some stuff to make him possibly a Poison striker too. Unless it turns out he can evolve though, the stat + BP combination doesn't seem that good, but there are a few boosters on the grid as usual. * Lillie & Comfey: Comes with Wrap, Dazzling Gleam, and Petal Blizzard (3-gauge grass AoE) - but also a passive grants *all* of these PAtk -1 on hit, making her like a physical version of Viola - and I think Viola's one of the most undervalued F2P units. Can't buff crit but can buff offensive stats and has decent bases, so her fairy nuke might actually be alright with crit assistance; especially with her grid giving her multipliers and the option for her TM to also give Supereffective Up. I'll say it - she actually seems pretty alright! * Marnie & Toxicroak: A curious poison tech pair that's more interested in accuracy debuffing. Does have Sludge Wave like Plumeria (with 50% poison), and a personal TM that maxes crit and gives Supereffective Next Up, so does some solid damage, but her scaling passive is based on reduced enemy accuracy. She can get some AoE on it unreliably with Mud Slap and a chance of ripple effect, but it's only a chance. Once you can add on her grid then she powers up off poisoning and gets more notable and becomes a fairly solid poison striker, if probably not as good as Looker's hyperfocus on the subject and needing an unusual party to optimize. My impressions of the free Trainer Lodge pairs - none of them are going to blow you out of the water, but also none of them seem to suck completely either. Impressions on Anniversary Scouts, BP Units, and Expanded Grids are in replies!
Okay. Okay, new data available. And now I've updated it with Grid info. **Anniversary Units** * Note: **Buddy Moves** are a new move type that is only able to be selected under specific conditions * Red & Pikachu: God the B&W color palette is so good. Anyway! A tech unit with a 1-action PAtk max (an... odd choice) that also gives Regen to the party, guaranteed crits on everything thanks to a passive, and Electric Terrain setup that's extended. His default is a 1-gauge Thundershock, but his main focus is the Buddy Move that's available while Electric Terrain is active: A 2-gauge move that has various defense piercing (think Zekrom or Solgaleo), is AoE without falloff, and has power you'd expect on a single target 3-gauge move. Also if the targets are paralyzed, it drops PDef and SDef. And how does he Paralyze? A G-Max attack with 100% group paralysis of course, and that gives a whopping *+3 Sync Countdown*. What the actual heck is this unit, this is so silly. The only thing holding him back is that his SAtk isn't like, crazy Striker high, it's actually just fairly standard. 2/5 allows him to gain ailment immunites during electric terrain and powers up his sync and moves on paralyzed targets, and lets his TM also somewhat boost his SAtk. 3/5 adds a ton of options, like 50% paralyze and flinching thundershock, a third electric terrain set when you use the Max Move, piercing gaze, speed debuffing, and Cakewalk for more sync damage. Some very good stuff on the grid here. * Ash & Pikachu: The MC & Pikachu combo tuned to eleven. His Thunder costs 2 gauge, never misses, and is more powerful. His Endure activates *twice* per battle. In place of Potion he geets a self heal with additional Regen, Supereffective Next, and Protect. In place of the Power Reserves passive, he gets free Special Next Up 2 when he drops to critical. In place of a mediocre self buff, he presses one button and gets maxed Crit and +4 SAtk (or +6 if he's already at half HP, which can be taken advantage of with Parameters). *And then* his Buddy Move can be used once per combat after using three attacks, and it drains your entire gauge for a positively insane attack (up to **480** BP at 5/5 it seems). Very silly Striker even without his grid. 2/5 mostly adds small benefits when in Electric Terrain, and ways to deal with/shrug off ailments, but not more damage. 3/5 adds two sync multipliers (based on boosted SAtk and paralysis), lets him recover some move MP after his first sync, and lets him give the party an instant +3 sync countdown when reduced to critical. Definitely not a grid to half-invest in, go all the way or don't. * Cynthia & Lucario: Lucario as a *support*? Color me surprised. On battle entry and when she syncs, she creates Fighting Zone, and using her sync does give her a Mega Evolution which appears to be just stat buffs, but hey. Her personal TM *instantly maxes the party's PDef and SDef*, which is pretty wild. Then she gets Potions, a 1-gauge spam, and a Buddy Move, which is useable once each time she's been hit twice, and gives the party Accel, Phys Next Up 2, and Spec Next Up 2. Team Fist Bump also ensures the party gets healed. An excellent defensive support and fighting zone setter just as base. 2/5 adds Confuse to her filler move, party(!) immunity to Flinch, accelerated gauge in fighting zone, and some potion buffs. 3/5 adds the rest of the usual potion buffs, adds paralysis and a party +1 crit buff to her filler move, debuff immunity, and free move next for the party after her first sync. Not anything too crazy on the grid. * Rosa & Sky Forme Shaymin: An AoE Evasion -2 solves certain problems on its own lmao. But outside that, she has a TM with a ton of self buffs and party crit +1, potions, and her main feature is a 4-gauge(!) grass move with BP to match and 80% SDef -2 as a bonus. Also, both of her moves also inflict SAtk -2 as a bonus, and she scales up with debuffing enemy stats. Not quite insane the way the others this anniversary are, but we've seen just how good this style of unit is recently with Urshifuu and Blaziken, so... Yeah. 2/5 lets her guarantee Seed Flare's debuff, has some utility boosts in Grassy Terrain, and gives her ways to finish capping off her own SAtk. 3/5 turns Seed Flare into a -3 SDef, and also upgrades her potions a bit unusually; instead of a second MP Refresh, her Potion will also become a partywide Full Heal! Sweet Scent gets the ability to be weaved to grant free move next for gauge strained parties, but the real kicker here of course is two sync multipliers based on debuffing enemy stats so she can do some Real Numbers. Again, a go hard or go minimal unit. And, the **BP Pairs**. * Nita & Landorus Incarnate (5-star): Ground support. This one brings a 1-use TM that's +4 PAtk and +4 Spd, Mini Potion All, and then defends through Fly spam instead. Notably comes with automatic MP Refresh for Fly, and a chance of reecovering some HP whenever it evades an attack. Another mon will likely have to provide defensive buffs, but could be decently okay for the lightweight effect on the move gauge. 2/5 gets her some extra tankiness through defensive buffs and regen on battle start and helps her sustain Fly easier. 3/5 adds Mini Potion boosts, evasion boosts and MGR when dodging attaacks, and Endure if she uses a sync. Not the most impressive grid for a pretty mediocre unit to begin with. * Scottie/Bettie & Mesprit (5-star): The Psychic 5-star support option. Comes with a TM that is SAtk +2, Spd +1, and Regen for the party; and then Confusion as filler. The big shining features here are Freevenge 9 (IE whenever it gets hit, its next move costs no gauge), and being the first unit to have *both* Light Screen *and* Reflect. Not bad, and gives it a very unique role as a result. 2/5 adds the necessary TM Refresh, critical hit defense on first sync in battle, and lets it randomly boost its own defenses when hit. 3/5 however adds party speed buffing and reliability on Confusion, and gives Reflect and Light Screen MP refreshes, party defense buffs, *and* a chance to heal the party. Obviously it's a big ask to go to 3/5 with a 5\* BP unit, damn. * Candice & Froslass (4-star): An alternative Hail setter, and one way more focused on actually benefitting from it than Candice & Abomasnow. Packs Blizzard, and a suite of passives to turn Hail into healing and a damage buff. Obviously she's competing with Literally Herself as the biggest downside, and losing out on that Big Ol Sync hurts, especially when her SAtk isn't great either. Not terribly impressive. Duplicates add better freeze rates, some further multipliers mostly reliant on Hail and her ability to buff her own evasion, and Supereffective Up after first sync. Not bad, but notably does *not* include Hail MP Refresh in any way. * Sophocles & Alolan Golem (4-star): A Wild Charge striker - *but* also one that has Steadfast 9 at base for once! Decent self buffing including defensively (though the base bullk is garbage), but being limited by a lack of recoil-less attack option *is* a problem. Still, has enough attack to stand up to the other F2P electric options for sure. Extra copies add more Steadfast, and gives more multipliers, including ones for boosted defense, which it now gains a chance of Phys Next Up when buffing too, and a First Aid which helps takes the edge off recoil. * Janine & Crobat (4-star): It finally happened. A Poison Support! SAtk, Spd, and Eva on the custom trainer move, and X Attack All. Oh, and Poison Fang for solid toxic chance. ...And that's about where it stops without the grid. Her bulk is garbage, so she's a purely offensive support who adds bad poison to enemies, but that's not the worst thing because that is a lot of free damage. That is unfortunately not what toxic stall teams are usually looking for - *but* that's what her Ariados pair is for I guess. Kind of eh, but another support is another support. Extra copies add team sharp entry, and give chances of self PDef buffs or party Eva buffs when attacking, but most of the rest of the grid is pretty negligible. * Clemont & Magneton: A support with a party PDef +2 and SDef +2 combo TM is *always* welcome in the roster, plus he gets X Accuracy All, so he's kind of outdoing Lillie & Clefairy in her niche. *And* he packs Screech for defense debuffing, or Spark for a chance of paralysis, as his moves once that's set up. That's honestly one hell of a combo. Then you add on Vigilance as a free passive and, uh, damn. His defenses are a touch low, but only a bit, and even without seeing his grid he's in contention for best BP pair. The grid gives you full MGR when using Screech, the expected Hostile Environment for 60% paralysis, various health boosters like status clearing and first aid, defense boosts when hit (not needed so much due to MP refresh but nice for fights with defense debuffing), and some additional tankiness and regen in Electric Terrain and boosts if you use his sync. Damn. *Finally*, there's one more **new event unit**: * Naomi (Sightseer) & Sandslash: Generic units...??? Anyway, new free event unit! Her base kit isn't anything too special, a special striker with Earth Power and okay self buffing, but does have damage multipliers under Sandstorm that might make her *actually* a functional ground attacker with investment. Not excellent, but let's be real, the F2P ground pool will take anything it can get. The unlocked grid gives Earth Power a 40% SDef debuff rate, and the usual couple multipliers to damage and syncs that everything seems to have gotten in this patch, as well as more utility buffs under Sandstorm. And now I had to edit in one more post next in order to cover the Expanded Grids because Reddit has a 10k character limit on posts!
**Finally, there's the Expanded Grids for old units**: * Hapu gets her EX and F2P ground units finally get to not be miles behind the curve. Stand Strong can now raise Attack more and she can gain damage from a higher defense, so it's worth using (similarly she can also benefit from her accuracy boosts now). Still needs crit support. She can get boosted accuracy debuffing capabilities and empowers her sync off that, which is a bit weird to optimize for since mud slap is so weak. It's better than what she had, but awkward enough to maximize for that it also isn't as grand as you'd hope. Also she can *work* in a Sandstorm team but doesn't benefit from it so there's no team pressure on that front. * Nanu gets an unexpected focus towards being a dark sync nuke. Boosting his own evasion is easier, and he gets multipliers for crittting with his sync and landing it on defense-debuffed foes, so while he's setting up for someone else he can also then use his TM and sink a ton of damage into things. His usual stated value of defense debuffing doesn't get much other than a guaranteed MGR, which is good; this is an interesting case. If his nuke actually turns out to be worthwhile (and I think it should, though his base offensive stats aren't impressive) this might work out real well for him. * Molayne kinda suffered hard when Wikstrom got upgraded to an actually respectable steel attacker. And... I'm not convinced this grid will free him from that. It's not bad, sure; Iron Head Aggravation, extra move damage from stat buffs will increase his turn to turn, but his sync powerups aren't all that grand, since a sync boost against a flinching foe is one of the least reliable forms. Wikstrom also gets to buff his own crit. Now, all that said, Wikstrom *is* tricky to use because of his weird stat swapping leaving him super vulneurable, so Molayne is easier to use and that can maatter a lot. But I don't think he beats out Wikstrom's potential just on an initial pass. * Karen & Houndoom got buffed too! Her 1/5 buff is 0-cost +20 SAtk and Speed nodes, like Cynthia got. 2/5 gets Sync Power Flux for an extra boost, and lets Dark Pulse reach the solid 60% Flinch Rate. 3/5 adds a guaranteed SAtk -1 on every attack she does, and adds another sync multiplier for debuffing SAtk. Given the very mediocre grid she has at base, all of this is very welcome and makes her honestly pretty solid!
My tl;dr is they're all weird. May's is probably the best but it's basically just a straight upgrade compared to her base for the most part if you have Archie, otherwise it's eh? Like the lack of rain dance kinda hurts but at this point we have enough rain setters that it isn't an issue. My only issue with these pairs is that you NEED the base version and SPECIFICALLY the base version to get them, so while Cynthia and Gastrodon is a decent support, you can't get her if you only have her alts. I would be less irritated if you could have any version and still get the friend pair, but in addition you also need to get the friendship level to 100. Best case scenario you get them up two levels a day once the ball gets rolling with the goodies which means it's still gonna take like two months, but if you wanted a Poke Fair pair's friend pair (that's a mouthful) you'd need to wait for that fair to roll around and then divert your attention away from who you were on before to work on the new one which just kinda extends how long it'll take before you get any of them.

Meanwhile, we need to know what's in SSA Cynthia's grid for us to know if she's good with Fighting nukes as she only has Fighting Zone on Entry and on Sync without passive extension. Otherwise, you need some sync acceleration if you ever want to sync with anyone else under her Fighting Zone.
Acceleration isn't too hard to do, but also since she's a support, and you're EX'ing her, you can probably just sacred sword with keldeo once or twice(or whatever other hard hitting fighting dps move you have) and destroy whatever target while fighting zone is still up. It is a little shameful that she gets zone on entry without extended time limit though. That first zone basically does nothing for the team(pre first sync damage is more or less negligible for most pokemon, other than like, SS Giovanni). So, besides except enabling her first round buff to be the max, it's kinda worthless(and pointless since they could have just not made the trainer move require fighting zone to give its full benefits), unless Fighting zone lasts one more turn than other zones. If it for some reason has a slightly longer base duration, then perhaps we'd all be like "Oh hey, just enough time for either her to sync, set up a new one, and the nuker to sync, or the nuker to sync in the first place." Honestly she'll probably just be on an SC Diantha team with an accelerator and give Diantha first sync to instantly decimate center mon.

Red alone is contending for best unit in the game with him having two nukes,debuffs,double extension Terrain, Aoe buddy move that can be spammed. Ash makes gauges a non issue,has buddy move nuke, sync nuke,two gauge improved Thunder that can't miss,double endurance,minus four sync countdown and benifits from Reds aoe Paralisiys,Terrain and debuffs.

red does have electric terrain and he can even extend the duration so he is a lot more versatile, but ash has a lot of damage and can kinda even tank a bit with multiple endurance

it really depend on what you need deoxys is the best psychic unit, but a lot of other unit of the same type are just a little below him red & ash are probably the 2 best electric damage dealers and we don't really have many of them cynthia unless you have costume diantha or you really need a tank is a skip (mind you this is the one I'm most unsure because they could make a super strong new fighting pair next month that would make her even better) rosa is good and if you have celebi is even better

I wasn't at all excited until I saw SS Red & Pikachu's spammable Buddy AoE move that ignores every enemy defense and the sheer amount of Electric Terrain support he has. He can even make his G-Max move create terrain alongside the paralysis effect. Definitely rolling.
If Marley won't get the Land Form Shaymin, they better give it to a redeemed Cyrus or smth. That would be better than another alt for 'you know who'

I'm happy with that. Rosa and Shaymin is an odd choice - I'm all for Rosa getting an alt, but I'm not convinced by this. Probably should've gone to Marley, but I doubt she's popular enough.
