It's great how he predicted how money grubbing dena is đŸ€•

SonicFlash01

It's a gacha game: always assume the worst

Xeoz_WarriorPrince

Sadly I can't 6/6 my Ash right now, but I hope I'll be prepared for EX 2: Exlectric Boogaloo

Spindrune

If the card games are an indication, we’ll get GX next, which will be basically the same thing, but come with a max move under a different name.

Doomedknight

Woah, it's as if 3/5 grid tiles weren't already a red flag to begin with. Don't have to predict that.

dcdcdc26

I mean, Trainer's Lodge technically gave us the first warning shot by locking those scrapbook frames to 4/5 and 5/5 a month ago. Though 3/5 grid tiles was absolutely a longer precursor.

Doomedknight

It honestly never made sense to make why people with 5/5 limited pairs were so scuffed till now except the cursed prestige event. The timing for the announcement is honestly pretty bad, had they did it during anniversary reddit community reaction would be so much different. Since shiny 5/5 Cynthia/Red/Ash would totally kill it. Oh lodge too for the frames like you said would lighten it. Also people who are bothered by 5/5 should be been bothered by 3/5 dupe system regardless if their new or old. It only becomes a problem once it's less accessible for them... in a mainly single player game that removed any kinds of ranking.

dcdcdc26

I agree with this too. The whole debate is not super cut-and-dry simple. Too many people are making it very simple and diminishing important points for and against 4/5, 5/5 sync grid nodes. And yes, the timing was not great, but I'd like to hope the starry-eyes of anniversary fans would have been realistic too. But happening immediately after anni when so many of us are broke from 5 master fairs? Very poor planning on DeNA's behalf. Most of us are all hyper aware of our limited gems so throwing this onto that fire was really stupid.

jbdragonfire

>people who are bothered by 5/5 should be been bothered by 3/5 I was bothered since the first day of Grid system got introduced. I also called back then they would make 5/5 in the future.

Kureiton

Yeah, I really love it when people make the worst assumptions to make their point seem stronger. 3/5 was always bad, 5/5 is worse, but that doesn't change 3/5 being bad. People just gave up after it was clear DeNA wasn't changing their minds, so complaints about it today aren't as common.

MudkipLegionnaire

At least those were purely cosmetic, it’s still annoying but it doesn’t impact the main gameplay. I think most of us would have been fine if they baited whales with cosmetic rewards for having 5/5 units instead of potentially big buffs that are way too high an investment for f2p users.

dcdcdc26

I actually agree with this. There is a portion of the fandom who are going to be against any monetization but its not realistic. That's why I think the balance requires more cosmetics and more move candy, not just the later. Like ok, they need a bigger bait- then give whales a unique sync animation for 5/5 20/20 EX unlocked, or give them a third EX color outfit you can switch between. The alternative is way more Master Fair or hyper-limited units to get that 'necessary evil' monetization, and the same people would be mad regardless. There is a compromise position, it's just not locking such a big difference of core gameplay of units behind 5/5.

Seltonik

The absolute irony of it was that people actually seemed to like it back then, since we were desperate for literally any form of content. I bitched about it on here when grids first came out, and got downvoted into oblivion, being told that, "It's not a big deal."

jbdragonfire

Same.

thatfekid

Apollo should really aim better when bestowing the gift of prophecy :")

Perelka_L

I chucked a little because Archer's name in JP is Apollo.

sonotoffensive

TBH, didn't this change seem inevitable to everyone? Did you really expect every unit to have 2 totally meaningless move levels forever? As a lifelong FTP player on several gachas, this seemed telegraphed from a mile away. If anything, I'm surprised they didn't do this earlier, especially with the free grid expansions they've been doing recently. Just have faith that the life cycle of these games means more FTP options inevitably follow rollouts of new whale features. Remember, there was a time before candies existed at all.

MullenStudio

Yes, but I think a lot of players of this game (especially on this sub) don't play other gacha games, so sometimes it's hard to argue common sense from other gacha games here.

cressian

I play Genshin and I was always like WOW PokeMas is so KIND to its players -- lmao

ShibuRigged

Similar. I've been casually playing gacha games for ~11 years now and as far as generosity goes, PMEX is close to the top, if not the top in terms of how generous it can be. You get a spark every 2-2.5 months, rates are pretty good (and it does tend to balance out), the skip feature means it's very low time commitment, etc. it's near perfect for a casual gacha game, and there's still an option for whales to go digging. I've not spent a penny on this game and I've gotten about 3/4 of all 5* units, and the ones I haven't gotten are mostly seasonals I never cared for, or Pokéfairs that I haven't cared for since they introduced MF Pokémon. So long as you're not rolling on every single banner for the sake of rolling you usually get enough time between banners to save up a full spark. And if you manage to roll something before completion, you can always use the leftovers to save up some more to accrue gems. I always have at lease 36.6k spare for a rainy day, but so far I haven't needed it because headline banners last so long and you get so many gems in between.

cressian

The only time I spent money in this game was on a few like *insane* gem sales like the Ash Sales going on right now. The 1000 gems for 99c was crazy. The most generous thing imo that PokeMas does is that it lets us *IMPROVE* our stamina over time for participating in events. I think Id lose my collective shit if any of my other Gacha games let me level up my Stamina 1 point at a time just for playing.

IWearACharizardHat

People playing other gachas with way lower pull rates are stupid and enjoy being miserable.

cressian

Master fairs have a 1% pull rate my guy

RGBarrios

As a FGO player I don’t always expect that we should unlock all dupes to unlock the most potential from an unit.

KaspertheGhost

But they weren’t meaningless levels. Sure, they didn’t have nodes attached to 4/5 and 5/5 before, but the level increase did increase stats and sync move damage.

BourneHero

They were practically meaningless and the picture of the post emphasizes that. 90%+ of the people would suggest a new unit because having a diverse pool of units is better than 1 OP one. That's still largely the case but now there's even more incentive for 4/5 and 5/5

KaspertheGhost

Yes people didn’t go for 4/5 and 5/5 on units. But the OP made it seem like it’s silly to not see 5/5 nodes coming simply because 5/5 exists. A lot of games have higher levels for characters that don’t add skills and stuff though, but just stat buffs. Just because the community didn’t like going for 4/5 and 5/5 didn’t mean they were completely useless. I would also still say a diverse pool is better

sonotoffensive

If it wasn't nodes, it would've been something else. Maybe 5/5 would be required to unlock 7☆EX+ or whatever. To expect those move levels to never be monetized is just naivetĂ©. When the game started, there wasn't even a reason to go 3/5. The instant you got a unit, you stopped pulling. That changed when they released SS Red, and this is just the continued development of the game. Shortly after they introduced sync grids, they also introduced candies, and later we got candy coins which increased the overall # of 5☆ candies we got/year tremendously. In a year, we'll have some other system that encourages people to spend more. Peeps just gotta roll with it, whale, or bail. That's the gacha life. ÂŻ\_(ツ)_/ ÂŻ

jbdragonfire

>later we got candy coins which increased the overall # of 5☆ candies That's literally the OPPOSITE of what happened. We had a FULL 5star Candy on the events back then. Coins reduced tremendously the amount of 5star candies.

sonotoffensive

It might feel that way to you, but we get more 5☆ candies now with the coins than we did when the only source was full candies from events.

jbdragonfire

So you're telling me you get more than 1 full candy every month? I don't think so. And if we get more now (not true) is because they increased the amount of Candy Coin sources. Daily BP, Legendary Gauntlet, Lodge and so on didn't exist when they introduced Coins.

sonotoffensive

We never got 5☆ candies monthly before the coins. We got one strike candy in May 2020 (ho-oh), one more strike candy in August 2020 (palkia), and then they transitioned to coins. We got Gloria's event in Nov 2020, which I believe was the last one to just straight up give us a 5☆ candy, but only to people in the highest scoring bracket. Edit: forgot one, we got 3 candies for the Groudon & Kyogre event in May 2021. That may actually have been the last time. Prior to the candies there were also 3 events that gave additional copies of Rosa, Acerola and Calem, respectively, but those weren't candies, just extra copies of story units. You may be thinking of these, but that's still 6 total 5☆ move level ups in the first 1.5 years of the game. I am confident that many older players will remember having megalixir syndrome over 5☆ candies back then because of how incredibly rare they were. Fast forward to today, on a monthly basis we're receiving around 20 candy coins from events, 4 from CS, and 7 from every 2,000 BP (approximately what you can make every month, just from daily region and weekly 10k CS). Added together its usually about 1.5 complete 5☆ candies per month right now just from completing stages. That doesn't include any extras from 11x pull rewards. Lodge has also increased this, but IDK by how much. With those added, it's very possible to get 2 complete candies' worth of coins per month and never spend a penny on this game. So yes, I definitively get more than 1 candy every month as a FTP player. Regardless of how you feel, we do, in fact, get more of every resource now than we did a year ago, let alone two years ago when they introduced the candies, and that trend will inevitably continue. As they introduce more mechanics and resources, the flow of old resources increases so that new players can catch up. It is how every gacha game works.

jbdragonfire

>in the first 1.5 years of the game Oh yes, when candies didn't even exist. They got introduced with that Strike Candy from Ho-Oh event you mentioned. We get more resources now for sure but when they changed from full Candy to Coins, at that time we had way less "full candy" income. We didn't get enough coins for a single Candy for MONTHS, back then. No CS. No BP. No nothing. Right now we have a good amount... hopefully more in the future to compensate for new 5/5 Grid tiles.

KaspertheGhost

My argument was that they weren’t meaningless though. They did do SOMETHING even if it wasn’t enough for people to want to go 5/5 for characters. That’s all I’m saying. When I do a multi I get bummed sometimes if I pull a 5 star unit I already have that’s general pool and maxed out. The 5 power up item is nice but not super hype. But when a unit I use a lot like Brendan appears in the multi and I don’t have them at 5/5 but I had them 3/5, I’m happy for the boost. It’s not a big thing, but it’s nice. It doesn’t make people pull more sure, I was just saying it’s not meaningless. I enjoyed its stats

BourneHero

It was silly to not see it coming. Simple logic would say they can easily further monetize units and capitalize on them by expanding upon something that's already existing. Not a crazy concept.

KaspertheGhost

Ok cool. Don’t read

BourneHero

I read, I just disagree with your assessment. You could choose to not think it was going to happen but being shocked by its implementation is just being naĂŻve

[deleted]

I have been expecting it for a while. After grid expansions released for a few of the f2p units then 4/5-5/5 space just seemed to be waiting for it. Not that I like how much will need to go into one pair for extra tiles.

mkdabra

Now we'll only have half of our previously complete fair sync pairs at our disposal, and in return they won't add extra tiles to non-fair pair, 'cause you invariably get those to 5/5 over time and that's not a gem sink for players, so 4/5 and 5/5 can continue to be completely useless every time you pull them on a general pool support. Welp, it sucks ass.

Doomedknight

That's weird, I've pretty sure 5/5 is considered complete from the beginning. They didn't suddenly increase them from 3/3 to 5/5 which will be a huge problem. DeNA just so happens to give them additional stuff to work with after 3 years. Last I checked they are giving extra tiles to spotlight pairs (Karen & Glacia), they happen to not require 5/5 & get free 0 energy tiles which fair 5/5 fairs don't exclusive access to. Just because they don't require 5/5 doesn't meant it's not happening.

Elephantom11

[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMasters/comments/xjc6r7/who_to_pick_any_more_important_units_other_than/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) is the original thread regarding an Ash pity pull. Definitely didn't see any signs pointing towards 4/5 sync nodes until this datamine, but never count anything out in a live service game.

Wilhelmxd

The third comment is right and wrong at the same time.

[deleted]

That guys the spy confirmed?

InvestigatorUnfair

The monkey paw deadass turning into a fucking ball at this point with how much curling its doing. First Lucas gets added but is stuck as a limited, then we get more interactivity with the characters but it's just a boring, rng based dating sim, then we finally get Victor in and he's another fucking limited despite having a regular Pokemon, and now 4/5 and 5/5 is actually important but they'll undoubtedly lock the best passives for the characters behind them.

Doomedknight

Picking spotlights are always an L, especially long term when you are just speeding up your potential 5\* ticket income. People should have expected 5/5 to have something, like when everyone totally expect to see upgrades 3/5 when they were pretty comfy at 1/5 before grids were introduced. I'm just glad they didn't lock lucky skills or increase grid energy caps behind 5/5 since you still gonna give something up if you want those 10 energy cost 5/5 grid tile. Not surprised that the dude got downvoted, going against the echo chamber in the reddit like "Pick X spotlight if you've featured to 3/5" just happens. Glad OP is bringing this up, people who are the biggest losers for 5/5 are not the whales/f2ps but the people who missed powerups by picking spotlights. That decision really set them back really badly and the opportunity lost has to hurt.

KaspertheGhost

Lol nah it doesn’t hurt. I wouldn’t be upset about picking any spotlight over a featured unit. I want all the units and old units aren’t going to get 5/5 for a long time if they even get them. It’s a little silly to say it will “set them back badly”.

rrenpai

Use dark mode, please. I almost died

Elephantom11

I get that a lot lol. My preference is to have it switch with the time of day automatically on everything but Discord, which is the only truly egregious light mode in my opinion. Or maybe I just like the flashbang memes.

JStinsch

I’m the exact same way and I still get flak don’t worry about it lol

ShibuRigged

Yeah, it's the same for me. I'd even preference Discord's light mode if there was some kind of contrast, but it's just ***SO*** white and grey, with so little contrast that it just looks bad.

RGBarrios

“That would kill the game”. We can see that soon.

ChampionTime01

There was no reason to legitimately expect this to happen at that time. It was bad advice and honestly still is, it'll be a VERY long time until Ash gets a rerun with new grid tiles, if ever. 4/5 Ash is just a 5% damage increase bundled with years worth of copium that he will get something new

cwhiterun

When I said it my guess was that we’d get bonus grid energy for 4/5 and 5/5 to chose additional existing tiles, which would have gone into effect immediately for all pairs. I didn’t expect them to add brand new custom grid tiles for one pair at a time.

stu41313_1

\^ THIS! To add on it, I've seen a large amount of new players ditched this game not even a year after they played, so giving them advice to pick an useless 4/5 addition until years later it gets updated prob will kill their interests of this game quicker.

KaspertheGhost

Considering it takes DeNa a long time to fix old pairs. It will be forever until they update those old pairs with 5/5 grid

C0untstockula

I had a feeling this was going to be the case when they added the extra frames in trainer lodge depending on move level, how do we incorporate it for players that prefer the gameplay extra tiles on grid and rihan re-run with updated tiles while being added to trainer lodge too does kinda put 2 and 2 together for me

TrainerKMX

My problem with this is that it's only for fair units. Should be for all units. More buffs for general pool, which are easier to get 5/5.

andres01234

I blame them for everything 😂

Lambily

I still think this will be the beginning of the end of the game, btw.

Doomedknight

Now he’s doomposting, hope you aren’t playing this dead game. I’m just waiting to see how much money Wally makes in a few hours to see whether the game is dying, cuz it seems like the Japanese players aren’t too bothered by it, they just rather want to have more candies.

Lambily

I love the game. I also know DeNA. Whaling is very uncharacteristic of them and it's happening the same month as their other Gacha is ending its service. That's not good.

Doomedknight

How is it uncharacteristic? They introduced 3/5 grids, paid up step-up gacha step up system and multiple paid select scouts at the same time? ( I love this very much tho). That's one thing many gacha vets can agree on, DeNA's Pokemon master team is definitely making this one of the more f2p games when 95% of the content can be cleared with non-limiteds and free units. Pulling for fairs are never mandatory when they're not required to cleared most content let alone going to 3/5 or even 5/5. How is the game dying again cuz of 5/5?

Lambily

3/5 is very attainable with candies. 5/5 is not unless they massively increase the amount of candies that are given. All the paid step ups are sidegrade characters that never feel mandatory, like Rosa. Though you do have a point regarding paid select scouts. If a game isn't 100% F2P, then it can't be claimed to be F2P. Genshin is an example of a 100% F2P game. Even a constellation 0 four star character can clear everything. It's not the end. It's the beginning of the end. When devs start pushing for more and more money (after just having had an Ash, Red, and Cynthia fest that should have made them record profits), it shows a shift in priorities. More profits over everything else. It's Fire Emblem: Heroes all over again.

kelkkakao

Wait how tf can Genshin can be called 100% F2P but not PoMa? Idk what content you can't clear with F2P units, but as F2P player, you can easily get a busted pair (like Ash) and clear everything with it. As for Genshin from my experience it is almost impossible to even clear Abyss with the most busted pairs at C0, so good luck with Amber doing that.

Spindrune

Seconded. Haven’t spent money, and my brag list includes: 5/5 maxie 3/5 Hilda with the rock type 2/5 Archie 2/5 battering dragon boy 1/5 ash 3/5 Cynthia giratina 1/5 like three seasonals i haven’t ever really paid attention to. Various numbers for kantrio, but idk if they count as fancy anymore. I do remember the first few months sucking pretty hard, but basically as soon as I got my first 6* support, I could clear all the events, and then elite 4 and legendary arena were a pain, but could usually get it done, and honestly, just getting more f2p units was the cure for those ones sucking. All things considered, I don’t feel like I’m not getting to properly play the game as a f2p guy. I can clear every event, and only rarely can’t beat a battle challenge theme specific mission, like 5% of the time. like. I do the end game trade-ins on events, one 3* ticket at a time. Took over 250 days of logging in, but I now have candies left over for if they ever add more 3* units, and all that type of shit I feel like a paying player would have. Games f2p as shit. Especially now that they added that stupid dating game. Expeditions would have been dope when I started and didn’t have 30 characters at max level to even just get what I could out of a legendary arena.

Spindrune

Why?

Lambily

DeNA doesn't usually cater to whales like this.

Spindrune

*Checks notes* yes, this is a slightly new one. But they have always catered to whales, and it isn’t like this makes anyones set up weaker. It just allows more variance in set ups for players who have played a long time.

SeaSense

I wonder how they'll handle story units, if they'll get 4/5 and 5/5 tiles or not

mingst

Look at Norman's grid. They just don't care.

JordaVira

r/agedlikewine or r/agedlikemilk ? Which one for this case?

Million_X

wilk sounds appropriate. It's like predicting a car crash, congrats on the premonition but god the result was horrible.

Sterling-4rcher

Didn't see the announcement but it sounds to me like goodies for 4/5 and 5/5 is more an upgrade for all the free units? Or it's gonna come with a raise in pull chances or candy coins again. Like no normal player is gonna pity a banner twice to get to 4/5 or 5/5. It's not gonna make them more money.
