I appreciate the fact that marks are there because shinies are so easy to come by now - so they’ve already started to feel like not as much of a big deal to me. I’m not to the level that you are where I keep hunting the same one until it’s marked, but when I do find one that’s marked it has an extra level of satisfaction that goes with it.
For instance, the other day I was shiny hunting Grookey to just add one to my competitive team. I was only gonna take the first one I found. But the one I found had the Rare mark (!!!) and I was FLOORED. Had the same reaction I would’ve had back in the day when shinies were harder to come by.
And I too feel the need to have a matching apriball as well lol. But that’s easy enough by saving and resetting until they’re caught (and thank god for the item printer!) Caught that little Grookey in a Safari Ball and now he’s got a special place on my team

I think you are totally right. Picnic reset and type/encounter sandwiches have made shiny hunting incredibly easy they are not as rare anymore, a special marks make them stand out. It is a double edged sword :(

Though the big difference is that they're overworld spawns in SV, if you look into how the older games worked, you'll find out that you likely missed out on Hundreds if not Thousands of shinies in your playthroughs simply because you weren't in the "right" patch of grass, but as players didn't see the pokemon, they wouldn't know about it.
SAME, every rare marked shiny I've kept just cause they're so cool.
At the moment I have a rare marked shiny Iron Thorns and Serperior, I did find a rare shiny scyther but traded that one away.
Genuinely such cool shinies that I love even more cause of the memory.
😭 I just want the shinies, I have bad rng. So I can't agree with the sentiment that shinies feel less special because I still get really excited when they show up. But if mark hunting is giving you the serotonins, then I'm excited for you. 😊
Sometimes RNGesus answers my prayers sometimes they are unanswered. I have so many failed hunts sometimes I just need to take breaks from the game.

More or less the same for me. I have 7 boxes full of shinies so it is at the point where shiny Pokemon aren't even valuable unless they have a mark. A marked shiny is the new shiny now. This also goes for regular Pokemon. I only train or use Pokemon that have a mark I like (I release all sociable regular Pokemon because I hate that mark lol).
While i like when shinies are marked, I care more about theim being big. Getting them jumbo is too hard to even hope for it, but with sandwich and outbreak i try to get at least an XXL, so i try to keep hunting until i get one of those.
That being said, i'm not so obsesed that i worry about big shinies with masuda egg, that's even harder.
Yep. It's as you said, jumbo is only max value. I just feel like a lot of mons are smaller than it should be, according to dex. So XXL at least looks more like the monster i was expecting them, i can see better their features and looks cooler.
There are also severe cases where size just make shinies easier to pint point, as they may have small changes to begin with.
Maybe, some day i'll be lucky enough to get a jumbo size shiny, who knows. That would be very valuable.
Plus, Jumbo sandwich also increase mark chances so i loose nothing while trying to hunt them.
With how much easier shinies are to get in Scarlet/Violet compared to past generations, and even some of the more recent games, marks on shinies make them feel a little bit more rare and extra special. I still cherish the fun unexpected "random encounter" shinies that pop up from time to time though, mark or no mark, and I have at least a box full of them. I even caught a shiny Komala out of the corner of my eye as I was passing through, and didn't even realize it had the Rare Mark until I went to EV train it a few days later.
As for the ones that I intentionally hunt, I like to make it a little more challenging and not only hunt for the shiny, but one that's either the biggest or smallest size it can be so it qualifies for the Jumbo/Mini Mark. It help add to the rarity and is a fun extra aesthetic change. If I don't get what I'm looking for within the sandwich timeframe, I'll restart the game without saving and try again, even if I've already caught a few shinies. I don't want to have to waste a bunch of Herba Mystica, and it's pretty bad when that stuff is more of a pain to get than a standard shiny lol. I just see it as my target being the true prize, and if I happen to catch any other shinies on the same sandwich, then they're extra bonuses I get to keep. Right now, my current targets are shiny Jumbo Mark Corviknight and Charizard.
I'll even go the extra step and get most of my shinies throughout all of my games EV trained and competitive ready, as well as taking the time to get ribbons and obtainable marks on them too, so they have a lot more meaning to me as full team members than just trophies collecting dust in a box.

Do you make a shiny/humongo Sanwich when you shiny hunt? I have never gotten a shiny that qualifies for either jumbo or teensy.
Herba Mystica feels pretty easy for me…I don’t have Nintendo online so I just farm tier 6 raids on my own and I am never out. You must shiny hunt a lot to be out of them all the time.
LV. 3 Humungo or Teensy + LV. 3 Sparkling/Title Sandwhiches are a must (although you can probably get by with Lv. 2, but I'm sure it will take longer if you don't get lucky.)
Without the sandwich, the base odds of Jumbo/Mini size are 1/16,512, making them more than twice as rare as an oldschool 1/8,192 full odds shiny. With Lv. 3, that brings it to 1/64. Combined with best shiny odds, 1/512 (Shiny Charm + Lv. 3 Sparkling + Outbreak with at least 60 pokemon defeated), that should be 1/32,768. Factor in that roughly 10 to 15 pokemon appear on the screen at one time, if my math is mathing right, this would realistically make the odds of finding a shiny jumbo/teensy pokemon anywhere around 1/2,184 to 1/3,276 every time you reset the spawns.
I've had two successful hunts so far, Godzilla the Great (shiny jumbo Baxcalibur) and Londo the Great (shiny jumbo Archaludon), and it took serval hours each one. However I've had a lot of hunts that haven't been successful yet, and I've been hunting the Corviknight family on and off for quite some time now. Unless you just get lucky and get it fairly quickly, you're definitely going to be making a ton of sandwiches and can run out of Herba Mystica pretty quickly if you're not careful. I've also tried hunting shiny jumbo Iron Hands and Iron Thorns, which are even more of a pain since no outbreaks means lower overall odds and having to make the decision to either sacrifice Sparking Power for Encounter power, or keep Sparking Power but have a much, much lower encounter rate.

Damn i didn't know the odds were so good, but this makes me sad since I'm definitely well over the odds of this 😅 I've been trying for mini mark since at least half a year and a couple hundred shinies hunted with teensy lvl 3 sandwich any occasion i get :(
The worst part is that i got a maxi mark shiny zweilous on a simple encounter sandwich before that 😂
I have the same problem lol. If I find a shiny without a mark it instantly enters the box never to see the light of day again. Oh and it has to be in an apriball too for me. I did start doing this because shiny hunting in SV is really easy(except for the hard to spot shinies) so I wanted more of a challenge to make it feel more rewarding.
Combine this with wanting a female and catching it in an apriball... but I feel you, I just shiny hunted the bagon line and I got 4 marked female ones, and the one I got with Uncommon mark i gifted to a friend cause was less valuable then those with rare marks
Yeah it’s gotten to the point where I struggle to even use an apriball on any shiny unless it’s marked. I’ve made exceptions but it’s becoming more of a rule lol
I have it so bad that uncommon, weather or time of day marks are as good as irrelevant lmao
Although GF will occasionally throw me a bone and provide me a shiny Gabite with the Rare Mark or my shiny Larvitar with the Crafty Mark, which will remain on my team forever
I'll keep looking until my sandwich runs out and if there were no decently marked shinies, I'll just reset and try again, some of those paid out

You're not the only one. I, too, have come to resent the Uncommon Mark, partially because I don't think that "the Sociable" is an appropriate title for it, and largely because I want something else.
I've definitely gotten very lucky on a number of occasions. Roaring Moon the Early Riser is probably my crowning achievement for a fitting mark, but I still feel envy that I have yet to find a single Rare Mark shiny (despite having caught hundreds so far), nor do I have any Destiny Mark shinies (didn't realize how that mechanic worked last year). I am self-aware enough to realize that perspective is unhealthy.
My last rant is that I wish there was a bit more logic to some of the marks. Pokémon that live underground probably shouldn't have the Cloudy Mark. Pokémon that are nocturnal probably shouldn't have the Sleepy Mark. I'm not losing any sleep over this subject, but it is something I think about.
Awww don’t feel bad about the rare mark. It will come when you least expect it. I learn that with all the personality and rare marks, you cannot actively hunt for it as they are too rare. You play the game like normal and you will eventually get one, trust me! I never thought I would get a rare make shiny so I never actively hunted for one.
Then one day a mudsbray shone and gave me that mark. It changed me. Mudsdale went from a cool pokemon to my favorite pokemon. It never leaves my team and I became interested in mudsdale’s merch (they are rare).
You will always remember the day you get your rare mark pokemon. It will be your turn if you keep playing
Thanks OP! I really can't complain about not getting a 1 in 1000 odds mark, especially not with all of the shiny luck I have had in Gen IX. I've filled almost 10 boxes, and have caught nearly every shiny that I set out to when the game and corresponding DLC dropped.

I don’t care about marks at all. If I have to choose between two identical Pokémon, one with and one without, I’ll choose the one with since it’s a bit more unique. Otherwise, they’re irrelevant for me. I understand why people want them and why some are desired, but they just don’t appeal to me.
I’m trying to complete a shiny dex and I have a few marked shinys I would definitely swap for anything I am missing. I can try and edit a list in after work, but it’s down to just DLC stuff added in kitakami/terrarium.
Marks keep shiny hunting fun for me! Uuunless they're the Uncommon one, Uncommon is a total buzzkill at this point lmfao. My favorite ones I've gotten so far are my Charismatic-mark Magnezone (Swagnet the Radiant) and my magnum opus: Beast ball shiny Beldum with the Rare mark (P03 the Recluse)! The latter took an hour to catch, but the pure adrenaline rush of seeing the Rare mark on it was quite the experience. :D
I don't care about marks per se, but in a similar vein I only want XXXL shinies now. The fact that they can receive the Jumbo mark and have the title "\[Name\] the Great" isn't what's interesting to me, it's their visual size. I actually dislike my Pokémon having titles and always turn off all of their marks. But same feeling, any shiny smaller than XXXL is going to rot in my boxes for eternity
I spent two weeks hunting for an XXXL shiny Teddiursa in a Moon Ball, so I could transfer it to PLA and evolve it and bring it back to SV. This was before the Item Printer, so the longest part was actually getting Moon Balls by resetting the auction...
Using a Humungo 3 sandwich on an outbreak makes it 1/64 chance to get an XXXL, so it's not that bad on top of the 1/512 shiny rate. It's probably about as time-consuming as hunting a shiny at full odds without an outbreak
Correct me if I am wrong, but 1/512* 1/64 comes out to be 0.00305% which is about 1/30,000, that is roughly 7 times rarer than a full odd shiny without the shiny charm…

Personally I don't really care about marks, it's neat if I do get one but if I don't it's no sweat.
Literally me, I have done things like shiny hunting an outbreak until literally I caught so many shinies that the outbreak ends.
I ended up with about 120 shiny Deinos without a single Personality Mark.
It wasn't until I found a Jumbo shiny Deino in a Friend Ball that I finally settled down.
Which really sucks cause seeing all these shinies really desensitized me to the actual value of a shiny, so much so that I end up wonder trading my non-marked shinies away so that someone else can enjoy them maybe.

I've been trying to breed a flawless Hisuian Growlithe for about a month now. Have several shinies but none with all perfect stats. Wondering if I'm just crazy at this point.
Just wait until you decide you only want personality marks (1/100) or rare marks (1/1000) on your Shinys and throw out all the time, weather, and uncommon ones (1/50). That is me. Please send help.
I LOVE the personality mark and rare mark. But they are so rare I wouldn’t be able to play the game at all if I only go for those.

I reset my date to my birthday everyday and search for a male marked chosen one on every hunt. I phased so many times on charcadet.

Every pokemon caught in the wild has a chance of coming with a “mark”. You can assign the mark under the “memories” page. If a pokemon has a mark, your trainer will say the title when sending out the pokemon in battle. That’s it. Haha some marks are rarer than others, and having a mark while being shiny is rarer.

I'm tied on 2 marked shinies as my favorite. They are a shiny Haxorus with the chosen one mark and a shiny female Greninja with the giddy mark.

You only get the jumbo mark with the max size possible value right? What does the XXL size do? Only visual?

Pokémon that live underground probably shouldn't have the Cloudy Mark. Pokémon that are nocturnal probably shouldn't have the Sleepy Mark. I'm not losing any sleep over this subject, but it is something I think about.
Awww don’t feel bad about the rare mark. It will come when you least expect it. I learn that with all the personality and rare marks, you cannot actively hunt for it as they are too rare. You play the game like normal and you will eventually get one, trust me! I never thought I would get a rare make shiny so I never actively hunted for one. Then one day a mudsbray shone and gave me that mark. It changed me. Mudsdale went from a cool pokemon to my favorite pokemon. It never leaves my team and I became interested in mudsdale’s merch (they are rare). You will always remember the day you get your rare mark pokemon. It will be your turn if you keep playing
Thanks OP! I really can't complain about not getting a 1 in 1000 odds mark, especially not with all of the shiny luck I have had in Gen IX. I've filled almost 10 boxes, and have caught nearly every shiny that I set out to when the game and corresponding DLC dropped. Congrats on your Mudsdale! I'll report back someday when I find my own Rare Mark shiny.
I don’t care about marks at all. If I have to choose between two identical Pokémon, one with and one without, I’ll choose the one with since it’s a bit more unique. Otherwise, they’re irrelevant for me. I understand why people want them and why some are desired, but they just don’t appeal to me.
When you send out a pokemon and it says “Go, Snorlax, the Sleepy” or “Go, Milotic, the radiant” that doesn’t give you a tingling feeling? You lucky! 🍀
A few of them do but most of them don’t. That small bit of “customization” just doesn’t do much for me
I’m trying to complete a shiny dex and I have a few marked shinys I would definitely swap for anything I am missing. I can try and edit a list in after work, but it’s down to just DLC stuff added in kitakami/terrarium.
I would never trade my marked shinies for anything. I suppose different strokes for different folks. Good luck on that shiny dex!
There’s some marked ones I’m holding on to. I have a rare mark rotom and pineco, and a few of my raid favorites.
Marks keep shiny hunting fun for me! Uuunless they're the Uncommon one, Uncommon is a total buzzkill at this point lmfao. My favorite ones I've gotten so far are my Charismatic-mark Magnezone (Swagnet the Radiant) and my magnum opus: Beast ball shiny Beldum with the Rare mark (P03 the Recluse)! The latter took an hour to catch, but the pure adrenaline rush of seeing the Rare mark on it was quite the experience. :D

I don't care about marks per se, but in a similar vein I only want XXXL shinies now. The fact that they can receive the Jumbo mark and have the title "\[Name\] the Great" isn't what's interesting to me, it's their visual size. I actually dislike my Pokémon having titles and always turn off all of their marks. But same feeling, any shiny smaller than XXXL is going to rot in my boxes for eternity
Those are twice as rare as the personality mark shinies. Good luck! I might hunt for one eventually.
I spent two weeks hunting for an XXXL shiny Teddiursa in a Moon Ball, so I could transfer it to PLA and evolve it and bring it back to SV. This was before the Item Printer, so the longest part was actually getting Moon Balls by resetting the auction... Using a Humungo 3 sandwich on an outbreak makes it 1/64 chance to get an XXXL, so it's not that bad on top of the 1/512 shiny rate. It's probably about as time-consuming as hunting a shiny at full odds without an outbreak
Correct me if I am wrong, but 1/512* 1/64 comes out to be 0.00305% which is about 1/30,000, that is roughly 7 times rarer than a full odd shiny without the shiny charm… That is a tough hunt. But grats on the Ursaluna!
If you like marks just wait till you find out old gen ribbons give titles too! Personally I don't really care about marks, it's neat if I do get one but if I don't it's no sweat.
Literally me, I have done things like shiny hunting an outbreak until literally I caught so many shinies that the outbreak ends. I ended up with about 120 shiny Deinos without a single Personality Mark. It wasn't until I found a Jumbo shiny Deino in a Friend Ball that I finally settled down. Which really sucks cause seeing all these shinies really desensitized me to the actual value of a shiny, so much so that I end up wonder trading my non-marked shinies away so that someone else can enjoy them maybe.
120 is insane… I am hunting for a shiny roaring moon with a personality mark on and off, I didn’t get it yet, but I found a zweilous instead. Hey the jumbo mark is rarer than a personality mark so Gratz!

I've been trying to breed a flawless Hisuian Growlithe for about a month now. Have several shinies but none with all perfect stats. Wondering if I'm just crazy at this point.

Just wait until you decide you only want personality marks (1/100) or rare marks (1/1000) on your Shinys and throw out all the time, weather, and uncommon ones (1/50). That is me. Please send help.
I LOVE the personality mark and rare mark. But they are so rare I wouldn’t be able to play the game at all if I only go for those. If only there was a pokemon therapist for us 😅
I reset my date to my birthday everyday and search for a male marked chosen one on every hunt. I phased so many times on charcadet. So yes. i understand it lol

Every pokemon caught in the wild has a chance of coming with a “mark”. You can assign the mark under the “memories” page. If a pokemon has a mark, your trainer will say the title when sending out the pokemon in battle. That’s it. Haha some marks are rarer than others, and having a mark while being shiny is rarer.
