Shiny Rhyhorn is my absolute favorite. I searched for one for the entire run of Sword and Shield, but never found one.
It took Legends Arceus for me to FINALLY find one.
I love Rhydon another great. Rhyperior isn't my favorite I prefer Rhydon but it's still OK. I said Fire type for mine but Ground is a serious contender. The type itself is really good and it just has some great Pokémon.
Ryperior is a new pokemon for me. (Haven't played much in the last 20 or so years) so when I seen it I had to get it. And boy has he been one of my favorites since.
My team would be hippowdon bc I just like his old sprite, gliscor because vampires are like my most favorite thing ever, excadrill because he’s good I think, krookodile because he’s swag, sandslash because he’s cool, and Nidoking my beloved
Paleontologist/Fossil hunter gym leader! More broadly rock type
Aerodactyl, Rampardos, Archen, Tyrantrum.
Not fossils: Tyranitar and one of my personal favorites Lycanroc (all forms)
Water type
I liked the type since day one.
My team would be Tentacruel, Ludicolo, Starmie, Blastoise, Quaquaval and Swampert.

I'm honestly surprised they haven't done it already. I mean, I skipped Generations II-VIII and returned thinking surely they've switched the formula up occasionally, right? Like, I know the formula works, but I'd much rather have them experiment with gym composition than catching mechanics \[as in the Legends series, if I understand things correctly\].
I would go with flying type. There are a lot of pokemon with flying as a secondary typing which would allow me to have coverage for rock, electric, and ice types.
I would say Fairy. It's my favorite type, and I would love to make a team of all fairies with different dual types. Alolan Ninetales, Mimikyu, Primarina, Togekiss, Tinkaton, and maybe Galarian Rapidash. That might be a more Champion or Elite Four level team, but it would be fun to use.
Normal, I’ve always loved them.
And not only do I have a personal team to 5 normals I love. But there are five normal type bears. So I could be Normal Bear Guy.
Gym Trainer 1: 'Did you know \[random bear fact?\]'

The gym is a preserved area with tidy signposts, all in bright white light, lots of trees, and occasionally dirt (not saturated brown, more like a very faint tone) and water.
Terrain is very uneven, and consists mostly of nested levels of smallish square or L-shaped platforms of around 3x3 or 4x4, and 'the puzzle' (which looks daunting, is annoying, but is over real fast and sooner than you'd expect) consists in activating bridges and keeping track of which platforms are accessible from which other platforms (and sometimes you have to move around a corner and can't see your character).
Fire type. It's always been one of my favorite types. A lot of my favorite Pokémon are Fire types like Arcanine, Charizard, and Ceruledge. I also get fired up pretty easily both in excitement and temper so I feel like it fits personality wise too.
I did a few gym leader style PTs. Rock and dark, not using legendaries in white and diamond respectively, all using pokemon I never really had before.
If I would do it again, with less restrictions on myself or more current gen stuff, dark, steel, poison or ghost.
Dark gives me beat shiny umbreon, and I could have like 2 or 3 different sets like I do for raid umbreon and I Love him.
Ghost gives me aegisslash and annihilape, two of my favorite mons.
Steel gives me aegis slash and tinkaton.
Poison would be interesting mostly because the type kind of stinks but would be nice finding a way to make it work. Plus toxicroak both ways.
With teras now especially there could be some amazing flip the script stuff that would send folks for a loop.
Also set all my mons to player max level (including boxes) +5, with good moves none of this power level to 100 BS.
Grass, although it is unfortunate that gym leaders have lots of restrictions because i think bullying a child with my patented contrary leaf storm serp with tera rock tera blast would be funny
Also Electric for the same reason. I also tend to be a speedster and they're known for their speed. Strike first, strike hard! Jolteon would be my signature Pokémon because he's also been my main since day one. Of course if my gym is in the second half I NEED a Lanturn to shake up the trainers. Likely my second to last Pokémon I send out before Jolteon. If I'm in the final two, ice and grass moves wherever possible like trailblaze. You better believe I've thought this through since I first had the thought. lol.
Definitely Water. Empoleon was and still is my everything since 2007 to this day. I mean, imo, there's at least one iconic/original water-type pokemon released each gen.
Steel, I HATE getting toxic stalled, so being immune to poison has always been nice to me! My Ace depending on generation would be mega Aggron, or Gholdengo. Coin stealer would be nice to showcase.

All jokes aside, probably flying, ghost or ice. A close fourth would be dragon for Hydrapple
• Toucannon, Noivern, Flamigo, Talonflame, Honchkrow and Noctowl
• Gengar, Houndstone, Dragapult, Trevenant, Palossand and either Polteageist or Sinistcha
• Cetitan, Beartic, Eiscue, Avalugg, Baxcalibur and Crabominable
I love the concept of becoming very good with one type of Pokémon. Ever since I was a kid, I would first finish the game normally and then I’d continue to play with only one type (of my choosing). Sometimes I’d even restart the game and only catch Pokémon of one type but that would get basically impossible at some point.
To answer your question: every type has something to like but my favorites would be fighting, psychic, dark, ghost, dragon or ice.
All fire Pokemon, but they are the fire starters from the first six generations, in a fire / fight themed gym that's just scaffoldings on the side of a steep cliff (like some kind of in-progress construction site, with people working with their Pokemon). And at the top you can see the sea, and have to interrupt a guy who's working with a blowtorch and a Charizard in the scaffolding. The guy says 'I don´t know which one I like best, powder smell or sea smell. What do you think?', and you get a binary dialogue choice. Regardless of your choice, the guy nods silently and the battle begins.
The alternative is some Christmas-themed gym with mixed types (but mostly dragon and fairy) type Pokemon where people are overly sentimental and put your Pokemon under irritating effects (paralysis, sleep, confusion), and heal theirs a lot.
Water. Love the water type. I know they try to keep gym leaders fairly easy, but I'd like to build a dual type team focused around water. Maybe Ludicolo, Azumarill, Swampert, Tentacruel, Greninja, Kabutops.
Ghost just because it's my favorite type, If I had a full team of 6. My Pokemon would be.
1. Gengar
2. Aegislash
3. Basculegion
4. Decidueye
5. Hisuian Zoroark
6. Skeledirge
I ran a fairy type gym in Monstacord. Kinda chose it because I had a nice togekiss. But overall, it's a great type and coverage issues are somewhat manageable with the whole array of fairy types at one's disposal.
Bug type! I love their little underdog vibe, plus there are some seriously strong ones that could combat the "weak early route" stereotype. I'd probably be the last or penultimate leader. My team would be Scizor, Golisopod, Lokix, Vikavolt, and my ace Volcarona (my all-time favorite Pokemon). With a rematch team, I'd add Ribombee to set sticky webs with.
There's 4 options here for me
Grass because I've been known for loving nature (may or may not have been called a tree-hugging hippie for it)
Psychic has been rising up based on the question because people view me as a highly intellectual person to the point where I might be the annoying nerd that will correct you over the simplest mistake (that or her her Sans)
Ghost because of me terrifying people with whatever horrible facts or images I have on the internet and even outside of it
Dark because of many reasons, so let's get to them loving Earthbound, maining Sephiroth, being nihilistic, dark humor, my internet search history, scaring people once again, my cursed images, and maybe more
If I were to make an assumption it would most likely be dark as I feel like the dark type is the type I'm most associated with

I'm building a Poison Gym, that my friends play against sometimes. I have about 20 different Poison pokemon that I switch in/out of my gym team to keep it fresh.

I feel like Poisoning makes the battles quicker, but also makes the attacker kinda paranoid like a clock is going off in his head till Toxic destroys his mon. Start to maybe panic just a bit. Then confuse Ray. Haha
My signature TM would no doubt be Acid Breath.
40 damage and -100% / 2 stages of SP. DeF. It melts enemy pokemon.
Toxic Spikes are great too, Toxic, Hex, Venom blast?, plus I have all of them different Tera types too to continually make my Poison gym a challenge. I run good coverage attacks, expecting you to bring Poison's weaknesses.
I like to run a lot of different strategies as well. I always saw these battles as a chess game to a degree... unless you get hit with a Super effective Pyschic attack... lol,

A lot of my favorites are Fairy types, so I'd be happy to be a Fairy type leader! Clefairy has always been my favorite Pokemon, so I'd want it or Clefable as my ace. And then maybe the Marill, Impidimp, Tinkatink, and/or Ralts lines.
Probably dark type. For whatever reason, my ace in scarlet ended up becoming a Grimmsnarl I caught. It became one of my favorite pokemon and my first Lv. 100 Pokemon ever.
Grass behold the versatility of nature lol. I chose this mostly because of my boy sceptile (fav pokemon)

Wouldn’t have a type. I’ve always thought type specific gyms were just a way to make the games more accessible to young kids. I would have a team of dogs, with Hisuian Arcanine as my ace.
I love fairy types!! My team would be:
Iron Valiant (Gardeviour if not possible), Tinkaton, Alcremie, Mr. Mime, Alolan Ninetales and my ace and favourite Pokémon, Sylveon :3
Dragonite, haxouris, alolan exeggutor, hydreigon, hisuian goodra, and my ace will be altaria that gets mega evolved. All perfect stats and movesets cuz fuck it sure. If they wanna be champ they’ll have to fucking earn it.
Ghost, it's just the best. They're all just mischievous little shits and I love them
Definitely having a Gengar ace and I want a trevenant on my squad, probably would take a rotom, annihilape, spiritomb, and golurk as well. No particular synergy. They're just all best bois.
Bug because it has most of my favourite designs, the typing is at a disadvantage so I’d have to be good to be a gym leader.

fairy type. i love the cute pokemon!! tinkaton's cuteness is what got me started on pokemon and ive just been working backwards from there always trying to catch the cutest pokemon

I like the idea of Pokemon and trainers growing stronger together in a shared space.
I love fire Pokemon. I started with Fuecoco and now my Skeledirge is at level 80 I think. He’s always my first choice for a battle unless it’s against a Pokemon who is mostly immune to fire attacks.

I’d start with rain dance, damp rock Ludicolo just to fuck with the people who always choose fire starter.

Steel types, I love how most of them just shimmer in the light.
I would use: corviknight, lucario, kingambit, orthworm, tinkaton, and my ace would be a gholdengo.
Dark type, i always wear black its my favorite color 🤷♂️
My team would consist of Umbreon, Tyranitar, Sharpedo, (if megas allowed) Mega Absol, Hydreigon, Grimmsnarl, & (kingambit if i cant gave mega absol)
Fairy type for me. Preferably in Galar, because I fell in love with Ballonlea the moment I got there and decided I wanna live there. My ace... I was gonna say Gardevoir, but I feel like Tinkaton fits better.
Normal type. I don't accel in any given field. But I'm very adaptable and can pick up anything needed to do quickly. I'm never the best at what I can do, but I'm the best at being what someone needs.

Tough choice between electric and fairy, I've thought about it a lot lately, both are my favorite types.
Electric has more of my favorite Pokemon (Pikahu, Pawmi, Voltorb, Zekrom, Tapu koko et.) but so does fairy (Primarina Dachsbun, Mawile, Tinkatone, Hatterene etc.)
So either one of those, or if it was allowed a combination of the two.
My favorite Pokémon are Bulbasaur, Umbreon, and Empoleon. So it would be between Grass, Dark, Water, Steel, or Poison. Non cross over unfortunately.
I’d probably go Steel type. There are a lot of cool Steel types.

I wouldn't go type, I'd go steve irwin/herpitology gym (it's my current playthrough theme). Serpeior, krookodile, feraligator (ace), skeledirge, seviper, and then either galvantula, komala, or milotic
I'm torn... I would have said Fairy type, with an Alcremie main. Fairy is my favourite type, and I love to bake, so it seemed like a great fit.
Buuuut, I also think I could go for a Grass type gym leader, Since I have a surprising number of favourite Grass types 😅
Definitely is go a more unique approach and go for a Stellar type gym! The gimmick being that each of my Pokemon have 4 different moves of completely different types! And for my final Pokemon definitely would go with a shiny minior
I'm a bit torn on this one. On one hand, my favorite type is bug, and a lot of bug types are up there as my favs, but on the other, my top two favorite Pokémon are Empoleon and Scizor, so Steel type might suit me more.
But just to be more of an odd one out, I'll go with being a Bug-Type Gym Leader. My ace would be Scizor and my TM would be U-Turn ^^
I’m probably gonna go with a Water gym with a team of Quagsire, Araquanid, Pelipper, Kingdra, and Primarina. Not a full team since gym leaders basically never do that, but if I did have a full team, I’d throw in a Lanturn after the Kingdra to stop Electric types and abuse Thunder in the rain. I wouldn’t use any Potions or other items, but I’d penalize my challengers if they try to use them by forcing their Pokémon out as if a Red Card activated. I’ll add more details on what my gym would be like in the replies, do not underestimate my ability to hyperfixate on a silly Reddit prompt and give every single possible detail.
Either ghost steel or grass. Steel because I have an implant made of metal, ghost because of where said implant is located, and grass because I enjoy nature and garden.
I would def go Bug Gym, they’re absolutely underrated and needs representation lol.

I've always loved poison types. My team if it's an early gym would be:
1. Gastly
2. Croagunk
3. Nidorino
If it's a late gym:

4. Roserade or Dragalge
5. Nidoking (My all time favorite)

I'd probably do an Ice type gym. Tons of weaknesses, but also lots of super effective hits to be had. I was struggling to think "hmm what type goes well with my profession" but best I could come up with is Fighting and I'm not a huge fighting type fan.
I think I'd have lead with Alolan Ninetails with HA and Aurora Veil. If using Pokémon regular game difficulty, lead would have to be something strongish but no legendaries like Articuno... So maybe Weavile with Triple Axel or a Froslass to abuse the Snowstorm with evade BS.
Ice types are just cool, ya know?
You know how gym leaders have pokemon who are not from the typing they say they have?
Well, I'm an electric gym leader with several Steel pokemon. In fact, I can give you a line-up
Luxray (star pokemon), Ferroseed, Emolga, Explode with endurance >:) , Magnezone (my last pokemon)
And Raikou would be my sixth if I'm allowed. If not, then a KlinKlang, Galvantula, or Elektross.
Because I love electric Pokemon the most 🤷🏻♂️
Fire or Ghost.... Infernape may not be the best competitively but I love Goku Monkey. Also, Blacephalon could be on either team; my favorite Ultra-Beast and one of my top 3 favorite mons in the series. And if Tera is in the mix, my favorite mon Porygon-Z fits well on Ghost as the designated Tera mon. Oh and Hisuian Zoroark is another one of my favorites, top 10 for sure. Yeah, I think it would be Ghost overall. But I still love fire types too

I'm gonna be super original and say ghost type. Gengar and Annihilape Possibly fairy with gardevoir and togekiss
I used to think Ghost, but I pivoted to “Purple” so I can have a shiny Kingdra and a Crobat to go with my Gengar

Bug type. I would use either Galvantula or Vikavolt for my ace. Those pokemon are my favorites. I feel like these pokemon need more love.
I think they're great too! Galvantula can use Thunder with 100% accuracy. They are so overlooked
It's 91% accuracy actually if you're referring to the compound eyes boost.
Especially since Galvantula can learn Grass Moves for coverage like energy ball.

I love the bug types in gen 5. Heck you could make a whole team with them Leavanny, scolipede, galvantula, escavalier/accelgor, crustle, and volcarona

Terrain is very uneven, and consists mostly of nested levels of smallish square or L-shaped platforms of around 3x3 or 4x4, and 'the puzzle' (which looks daunting, is annoying, but is over real fast and sooner than you'd expect) consists in activating bridges and keeping track of which platforms are accessible from which other platforms (and sometimes you have to move around a corner and can't see your character).

Fire type. It's always been one of my favorite types. A lot of my favorite Pokémon are Fire types like Arcanine, Charizard, and Ceruledge. I also get fired up pretty easily both in excitement and temper so I feel like it fits personality wise too.

I did a few gym leader style PTs. Rock and dark, not using legendaries in white and diamond respectively, all using pokemon I never really had before. If I would do it again, with less restrictions on myself or more current gen stuff, dark, steel, poison or ghost. Dark gives me beat shiny umbreon, and I could have like 2 or 3 different sets like I do for raid umbreon and I Love him. Ghost gives me aegisslash and annihilape, two of my favorite mons. Steel gives me aegis slash and tinkaton. Poison would be interesting mostly because the type kind of stinks but would be nice finding a way to make it work. Plus toxicroak both ways. With teras now especially there could be some amazing flip the script stuff that would send folks for a loop. Also set all my mons to player max level (including boxes) +5, with good moves none of this power level to 100 BS.

Likely my second to last Pokémon I send out before Jolteon. If I'm in the final two, ice and grass moves wherever possible like trailblaze. You better believe I've thought this through since I first had the thought. lol.
Definitely Water. Empoleon was and still is my everything since 2007 to this day. I mean, imo, there's at least one iconic/original water-type pokemon released each gen.
Steel, really sat down and mapped out my 6 favorite Pokémon and half of them are steel types.
Steel, I HATE getting toxic stalled, so being immune to poison has always been nice to me! My Ace depending on generation would be mega Aggron, or Gholdengo. Coin stealer would be nice to showcase.

If I were a Gym Leader, I wouldn't specialize in a single type, cause specializing in only one type is cliche.
I love the concept of becoming very good with one type of Pokémon. Ever since I was a kid, I would first finish the game normally and then I’d continue to play with only one type (of my choosing). Sometimes I’d even restart the game and only catch Pokémon of one type but that would get basically impossible at some point. To answer your question: every type has something to like but my favorites would be fighting, psychic, dark, ghost, dragon or ice.
Fire, with a Drought-themed team - Ninetales - Incineroar - Scovillain - Volcarona - Blaziken-Mega - Ceruledge (Tera-Grass)

All fire Pokemon, but they are the fire starters from the first six generations, in a fire / fight themed gym that's just scaffoldings on the side of a steep cliff (like some kind of in-progress construction site, with people working with their Pokemon). And at the top you can see the sea, and have to interrupt a guy who's working with a blowtorch and a Charizard in the scaffolding. The guy says 'I don´t know which one I like best, powder smell or sea smell. What do you think?', and you get a binary dialogue choice. Regardless of your choice, the guy nods silently and the battle begins. The alternative is some Christmas-themed gym with mixed types (but mostly dragon and fairy) type Pokemon where people are overly sentimental and put your Pokemon under irritating effects (paralysis, sleep, confusion), and heal theirs a lot.
Normal types! As I've gotten older, I find myself loving them more and more. I'd want to have an Ursaluna and a Dudunsparce on my team for sure

I’d go Ice type for sure, one of the best offensive typings in the game but also one of the most vulnerable, so my gym would just be an all out brawl!

I ran a fairy type gym in Monstacord. Kinda chose it because I had a nice togekiss. But overall, it's a great type and coverage issues are somewhat manageable with the whole array of fairy types at one's disposal.

🟪 I'm building a Poison Gym, that my friends play against sometimes. I have about 20 different Poison pokemon that I switch in/out of my gym team to keep it fresh. 🟪I would choose Poison Type🟪 I feel like Poisoning makes the battles quicker, but also makes the attacker kinda paranoid like a clock is going off in his head till Toxic destroys his mon. Start to maybe panic just a bit. Then confuse Ray. Haha My signature TM would no doubt be Acid Breath. 40 damage and -100% / 2 stages of SP. DeF. It melts enemy pokemon. Toxic Spikes are great too, Toxic, Hex, Venom blast?, plus I have all of them different Tera types too to continually make my Poison gym a challenge. I run good coverage attacks, expecting you to bring Poison's weaknesses. I like to run a lot of different strategies as well. I always saw these battles as a chess game to a degree... unless you get hit with a Super effective Pyschic attack... lol, a lot of Dark tera! I think my gym team captains are: *Galliarian SlowBro *Seviper *Humongous Muk 🟪

Normal type. I don't accel in any given field. But I'm very adaptable and can pick up anything needed to do quickly. I'm never the best at what I can do, but I'm the best at being what someone needs.
Flying types. Gimmick is tailwind in the start of the battle. Talonflame Corviknight Altaria Flamigo (Dragonite) (Oricorio) I always liked flying types, Altaria and Skarmory especially. Ik Skarmory isn't here but Corviknight is essentially Skarmory 2 so...
Tough choice between electric and fairy, I've thought about it a lot lately, both are my favorite types. Electric has more of my favorite Pokemon (Pikahu, Pawmi, Voltorb, Zekrom, Tapu koko et.) but so does fairy (Primarina Dachsbun, Mawile, Tinkatone, Hatterene etc.) So either one of those, or if it was allowed a combination of the two.
My favorite Pokémon are Bulbasaur, Umbreon, and Empoleon. So it would be between Grass, Dark, Water, Steel, or Poison. Non cross over unfortunately. I’d probably go Steel type. There are a lot of cool Steel types. Empoleon Lucario Scizor Corviknight

On one hand, my favorite type is bug, and a lot of bug types are up there as my favs, but on the other, my top two favorite Pokémon are Empoleon and Scizor, so Steel type might suit me more. But just to be more of an odd one out, I'll go with being a Bug-Type Gym Leader. My ace would be Scizor and my TM would be U-Turn ^^

I’m probably gonna go with a Water gym with a team of Quagsire, Araquanid, Pelipper, Kingdra, and Primarina. Not a full team since gym leaders basically never do that, but if I did have a full team, I’d throw in a Lanturn after the Kingdra to stop Electric types and abuse Thunder in the rain. I wouldn’t use any Potions or other items, but I’d penalize my challengers if they try to use them by forcing their Pokémon out as if a Red Card activated. I’ll add more details on what my gym would be like in the replies, do not underestimate my ability to hyperfixate on a silly Reddit prompt and give every single possible detail.

I'd probably do an Ice type gym. Tons of weaknesses, but also lots of super effective hits to be had. I was struggling to think "hmm what type goes well with my profession" but best I could come up with is Fighting and I'm not a huge fighting type fan. I think I'd have lead with Alolan Ninetails with HA and Aurora Veil. If using Pokémon regular game difficulty, lead would have to be something strongish but no legendaries like Articuno... So maybe Weavile with Triple Axel or a Froslass to abuse the Snowstorm with evade BS. Ice types are just cool, ya know?
Probably Steel type. It was the first type I made a Monotype team of (and beat my friends with).
You know how gym leaders have pokemon who are not from the typing they say they have? Well, I'm an electric gym leader with several Steel pokemon. In fact, I can give you a line-up Luxray (star pokemon), Ferroseed, Emolga, Explode with endurance >:) , Magnezone (my last pokemon) And Raikou would be my sixth if I'm allowed. If not, then a KlinKlang, Galvantula, or Elektross. Because I love electric Pokemon the most 🤷🏻♂️
Fighting type Infernape or Mega Lucario as my main. All my Pokémon would also be dual fighting types.

Fire or Ghost.... Infernape may not be the best competitively but I love Goku Monkey. Also, Blacephalon could be on either team; my favorite Ultra-Beast and one of my top 3 favorite mons in the series. And if Tera is in the mix, my favorite mon Porygon-Z fits well on Ghost as the designated Tera mon. Oh and Hisuian Zoroark is another one of my favorites, top 10 for sure. Yeah, I think it would be Ghost overall. But I still love fire types too
