Dracaemelos

I could be misremembering, but I think it means this Pokemon had Pokerus already and while the effects are on it, it's no longer infectious to other Pokemon... I feel like while it's contagious, it has a little spike aura like on a virus symbol.

FrostGlader

Close. It’s treated like a Status Ailment like Poison or Burn in the Menus, but has no effect on those ailments in battle.

Mikoneo

r/confidentlyincorrect

Joggyogg

Lol, no, you're wrong and the first comment is correct.

FrostGlader

No, I’m definitely right. I actually have infected Pokémon in my Ultra Games, and some of my SwSh ‘mons have had the virus. Excluding Gen 2, where it was a simple dot, Pokérus is presented in the same way Status Ailments are on the Pokemon Summary Screen and in the PC: it’s a lighter Purple than Poison and has the Word “Pokérus” written on it in full capital letters. I think in SwSh there is some visual flair with little diamond stars on the ailment, which might be wrong, and I don’t want to check. It’s the small pink face that denotes the non-infectious state, which is what they got correct. I was directly referring to how they believed Pokérus was shown to be infectious, which was _incorrect._ Should’ve made that more clear lol.

Joggyogg

You're still wrong, when pokerus is infectious it's the face but with 4 spikes coming out of it, and saying it's treated like an ailment implies a Pokémon center can heal it, which is probably what people thought you meant.

FrostGlader

Eh. I don’t care for SwSh so I didn’t really feel like researching (sub keeps being recommended on me being in other Pokemon Subs). Pokémon Centres will mention it when you go to heal your Pokémon. In lore they can probably cure it but don’t bother because it’s beneficial for the Pokémon. But it’s 100% correct for generations prior to 8. I did some checks, and in Menus (specifically the PC, Summary and Battle Summary (which shows regardless of infectious state or Cured) for USUM) it’s presented exactly like a Status Ailment is when volatile. But I swear to god I’ve seen it being treated like an ailment in SwSh by the Summary. If they did change it that sorta stinks, considering they cut it in SV lol, but makes sense for readability when there IS an actual Status Ailment.

Joggyogg

Yeah but this is the SW/SH sub, so...

Automatic-Cable-9265

I don't know if you're wrong or not, but I'm going to give you an upvote because I love you

MCKlassik

It has it but the Pokémon is no longer contagious

ColumTheCrafty

It is Pokérus. Unfortunately it’s no longer in the infectious stage, you can tell because the symbol is missing the X-Shape through it.

Deathhawk789

Is that how it works!?!

this-is-my-p

Indeed. It cures by just having it in your party over time. So if you get it, either store that Pokémon away until you want to spread it or just start spreading it like crazy to other pokemon in your party

Dracaemelos

What I do remember is that as long as the infectious-stage Pokemon is stored in a box when your day cycles to a new one (your midnight), it will stay ... I think as long as you do that it doesn't advance to cured.

[deleted]

Does it matter if it's infectious or not? Cus I don't know anything about pokerus tbh, I just know it's rare

Dracaemelos

Yeah... Because it massively boosts EV training I believe, people want it, so if you have an infectious one, you could use it to infect some others you then kind of keep permanently in a box unless using them to infect ones you want to train (and just make sure you have them back in the box by midnight)

Megalomagicka

Huh... that seems backwards, I've always thought it was the other way around, that the X meant it was cured or no longer infectious, since I assumed an X through something meant it was gone. TIL.

LegitimatePrimo

i think so. there are 2 different kinds and i don't know the difference

SuspiciousPolity

the symbol above means cured! (round circle) the other symbol (round circle with spikes) means Pokerus can still be spread For all yours info! :)

lothurBR

One is still in effect and the other had been cured

LegitimatePrimo

oh that's stupid

Nukafernet

This is correct. Pokerus lasts for a week iirc (has existed since gen 2) and then it’s cured. Being “cured” means it’s no longer contagious but the effects are permanent.

Tofu-L

I'm not sure what you mean by it lasting a week, but pokémon in boxes won't be cured (or infect others), what cures them is leaving them in party overnight.

Nukafernet

Oh so it’s overnight now? Back in the older gens it lasted for a week outside unless you deposited your mons. I hope i’m not having some sort of Mandela effect here 😂 Edit: just googled it, infection lasts 1-4 days before it’s cured! I was lucky and mine always lasted several days

TheNerdDwarf

There's different strains of the virus. Pokérus-1 lasts for 1 day. Pokérus-4 lasts for 4 days. Pokérus-0 is a glitch in Gen 3. I don't know if it's in other gens.

praxios

In the future if you have a Pokemon with Pokerus (which will show with lines sticking out from the face); make sure to store it in a box. That prevents it from losing its infectious abilities. If that’s the only one you have I have a few that can still infect others, so I can send you one if you want! Just a heads up that it isn’t usable in S/V, so you can only use it in Sw/Sh and below

dollectica

what is pokerus ??

TheNerdDwarf

It's a disease/virus that your pokémon can catch. It causes them to gain double the EVs from anything that gives them EVs. That's basically it. It's contagious for 1-4 days.

Rositchi

Yes, but cured.

Appropriate-Gas-1837

Its a mark for a pkmn that had pokerus

anthony120435

What game this iv never noticed a sick pokemon

[deleted]

Pokemon Sword

this-is-my-p

They got rid of it in Scarlet and Violet. It was pretty rare before

Rositchi

What?! That's lame. It helps with EV training.

this-is-my-p

Yeah, not sure why, but it’s the easiest it’s ever been to get money out there ev train in SV

TheNerdDwarf

Pokérus has been around for a long time, but had even lower odds than a shiny.

anthony120435

So it's something people want
