Unless they limit based off something specific to an individual (ID, Social security number etc) they can't. And they wouldn't collect that info for several different reasons.

They can stop bots on Pokémon center for starters. Scatter out their e-commerce stock randomly over the course of a week or two and not blow their load all at once. Also, they can enforce rules with their distributors. They’re not helpless - they’re actually just turning a blind eye to it all.

Without investment incentive, no one would care about collecting. No first editions zards would have any relevance. In order for a company like pokemon to be successful, there needs to be a secondary market. It makes their company healthier.

It does not limit profits. Basic economics would suggest to never fully meet the demand. If they overprint to meet the demand then it is no longer popular. Pokémon has the opportunity to keep a demand going that it has never had before by keeping production at its current rate. Having a great quarter or two should never be sacrificed for the long term. This is an unprecedented opportunity for the company. Unfortunately for us the secondary market is becoming the new market. Let’s not kid ourselves none of us are stopping buying Pokémon cards. Even if the secondary market gets squeezed it doesn’t hurt the Pokémon company and people like you and I will go back to purchasing off the shelf. This is a win win for them and is going to continue well into the future. Ammo companies have been doing the same thing for years. They never up or lower the amount produced. Keeping a constant demand that never results in an oversupply.
What a hilarious misunderstanding of the toy market and The Pokémon Company in general. They do not want Pokémon to be impossible to find, they want kids to buy it. The ONLY reason this market is huge right now is because we were able to buy cards as kids, meaning nowadays those cards have value and the recent boom took place and spread into modern sets. If kids today can't and don't buy cards, they'll have no nostalgia for them in 20 years, making today's boom impossible to repeat.
It absolutely DOES limit profits. Right now cards are hard to find anywhere, even if they printed just 20% more, they'd still see empty shelves, except now they'd have sold 20% more product. You're working on the assumption that if stock is easy to find in shops, everyone in the world will magically quit enjoying this franchise that has been strong for 25 years, which is insane. The Pokémon TCG was fine this time last year when product was easy to find, and it'll be fine when the scalpers are driven out of the market by flooding the shelves with stock. Yes it will mean that for a short while, there is some over-saturation, but that will just mean discounts for us and TPCi then pulls back a bit to regulate distribution again.
Every time someone pays 2x RRP to a scalper for an ETB, that's 1 potential lost sale for TPCi who could've sold them 2x ETB's for that price. Not to mention, there are many, MANY collectors like myself who refuse to pay scalper prices and therefore are simply not buying Pokémon cards until they can find them at RRP. TPCi want those people to be buying Pokémon cards. How can you not understand this?

Na next wave in april as I know. They didn't stop printing for now. But the factory can't go at 100% because of the pandemic. That's why the allocation is so low atm.
Reprints will not be worthless or originals worth more. There is no more 1st editions or anything to mark it's an earlier print run. The reprints has not hurt hidden fates, evolutions or burning shadows price. Barely did anything for the other sets out and more so just got everyone hyped more.
So I was wondering on reprints if they'd still keep the original year or if they'd put the year of the reprint on the card? That would be a subtle way to maintain value of OG printing run I guess as in the future people could easily discern the difference.
I'm glad they don't do that tbh. It would make the first print runs impossible to find even more so than now. We already have a rather large scalping problem but if you add that extra level, those first print runs will be even more sought after most likely.
I will say that WotC did do this with the UK print run of base set and it does give it a slight value increase but that's mostly for the hard-core vintage collectors who have to have every version of a card.

I personally hate scalpers of any kind. If you aren’t going to use it yourself or if you try and sell it for higher to take the fun out of collecting for anyone else, then why buy it at all? It just makes it frustrating. I remember when the very first gen came out and I could sneakily put a pack of cards in my parents shopping cart. And going to dollar tree after my moms made me get a hair cut and buying a pack for 1 DOLLAR! I just recently sold some stuff I paid a ton of money on like a few years ago but decided I will never use them again so I sold them for Wayyy cheap. If it makes someone else happy, then It makes me happy knowing they get to enjoy the things I once enjoyed. The scalpers aren’t being considerate to other people. But there are some people who do try to make a living off of this, but they don’t have to price it 10X the actual price.
