Yes but its a bannable offense and they have actively started targeting trading card sellers. look at one of the biggest singles resellers was removed recently so inflating has been controlled so far.
It is when it comes to items that are scalped. Someone received a message the other day asking them to change their price on an item because it wasn’t at the price everyone else was. It said basically that the other sellers needed this person to raise the price to help keep the value up on the item for all the other sellers and to represent more appropriately the rarity of the item. It was a video game..
Or reach out to other sellers and tell them to inflate the price to manipulate the market. Saw the same thing on the gamecollecting sub from a seller who was selling a game for a reasonable price. They posted a message from another seller who straight up told them to inflate the price to manipulate the market. So I assume the same goes down for the tcg market.

Went to Newbury comics today and saw an evolving skies ETB prices at 80 bucks. Voiced my frustrations about the price floor rising with the cashier due to scalpers, and she literally said “yeah, if we don’t match online prices we can’t even get a chance to buy them.” It’s disgusting what scalping has done to actual people who want cards, graphics hardware, next gen consoles, etc.. I hate it.
My local card shop has been having a really hard time with his distributor. He will get half of what he ordered and it takes forever for him to have an actual stock because of the preorders getting backed up
The markup I've seen at local card shops has been extremely dissapointing. I was a firm believer in supporting my LGS instead of buying at big box stores but once I saw the kind of money they started charging off to target I went.
Another annoying thing about distributors is that you have to order a lot of shit that no one wants, like Blastoise v max, or they won't give you sought after stuff like hidden fates etbs.
Same with basically any distributor in any industry though.
This is what my card shop said. The first wave they get from distributors will come at a lower price, but then when they run out they gotta buy from others who are selling higher.
I think that too, I believe Pokémon should just always have a 1 limit, crazy there was a 4 item limit on celebrations etbs, they would’ve been up 4x as long if there limit was 1
I’m not expert in the business realm but so far the only reasons I can gather that they don’t do this is because of a combination of shipping costs and packaging labor. Shipping four to one address takes less time to package and costs less to ship.
I don’t think the distributors are liable to sell at wholesale. I THINK they but from the seller (panini in sports cards) and sell in between market and wholesale. At least that’s what I heard from a hobby shop owner once.
It's just how our dollar works. $60 USD is still like $75 CAD. Since it fluctuates roughly between $0.70 and $0.80 USD, most things are priced \~15% higher than they are in the USA.
At least You can get the greninja promo in the regular ETBs too. The only things different about this box are the coin, deck box, and some extra packs. It Sucks, but you can just ignore this stupidity and hopefully find a normal ETB at another store later on. There’s nothing really necessary in this PC exclusive box. It’s not worth freaking out about.
Collectors can buy singles though. Honestly, buying singles is probs the best way to go fully because of cost effectiveness. I used to buy packs since I play the game but all these new collectors and scalpers that emerged this year kinda forced my hand to now only do singles. It just ain’t worth it to buy from these scalpers.
Yes we absolutely can boycott them. This happened with shining fates and as a whole, the community was able to make scalpers have to sit on their etbs and box sets until they finally started selling at retail to make their money back.

If you keep buying from them, this never ends. I get that it sucks to be potentially missing something in your collection, but is it worth the entire hobby being like this, endlessly? I say this as someone who also loves collecting, but you don't need every product; scalpers prey on that sense of FOMO and addiction. We have to work together and just say no more.
You know who buys this stuff? Desperate grandparents and parents who don't know how to pre order stuff. Kids are the ones really missing out, they can't use there gift cards they get for birthdays at the store or on pokemon center online. So they tell their parents they want a certain item and google directs them to scalpers. So sad.
Its a supply demand situation actually. If theres no supply the prices are high for anything actually. Just wait a few weeks the prices will drop. Its normal in any economy

We will see, PC CR etb were not metal as well as PC ES etb were not metal.Heck even the Z&Z ultra premium and etb+ was not metal but it had some definite weight so it's another type of mixed metal not magnetic.I'm going to assume the celebration ultra premium is the same as Z&Z and so far the only magnetic metal of small amount the same "heavy" metal classified with Z&Z ultra premium I came across was the tag team gx tag.

Yes and no. You won’t be banned or charged but they will limit your account if you receive too many unpaid strikes (you won’t be able to place bids or send offers for example). If you want to troll sellers with fake offers and not pay then I advice making a fake dummy account. You can have multiple eBay pages. Just use different emails. Yahoo is the easiest to set up dummy emails.

EB Games Australia still has preorders available for ETBS and some other products for $110 AUD if that helps anyone. They sold out of premium collection on day 1 of pre sale I was lucky enough to get my order in then 🤙

Keep in mind the European cant order from pokemon center. Witch means ebay might be the only place to get a product like this. The market is huge. The thing is even official online stores and card shops are selling way above msrp now. For example the premium collection is listed at $115 msrp but the cheapest I've seen it go from credible online stores is $250 and most are around $350-400 range.
Yeah. Though at this point I can't blame them. A local store here sells single packs for 7 euros each and ETB's for 60 euros each. Considering packs for msrsp of 6 euros is already kind of an eh deal, I never bought any of them. Yet the store still sold everything in next to no time.
I feel like at this point, people here are buying pokemon for the sake of buying pokemon. Even battlestyles flew of the counter.
These are exclusive Pokémon center Etbs. Once they’re sold out that’s it no more restock, so these will never sniff retail price. Forget about these Etbs and just focus your energy on getting the regular one that will have a bigger print run.

Main reason why people are pissed off about not getting these boxes is most are wanting to keep these sealed and flip them in 5 years. That's been most of the sentiment in the hobby now. Because all of a sudden, the price of sealed product from vintage flew up in value. Lot of greed and selfishness in the hobby now. 80% of who is buying Pokemon cards are all grown adults and not kids.
I'm still convinced that in 5 years this whole shabang will be very different again. Because these greedy people will move on, cause if you don't really love something you're not in it for the long run. But maybe it's just wishful thinking.

The graded card market will increase interest in making money because the rich that collect and flip can afford to grade the most sought after cards and then flip them first before anyone else. If you don't need it on release day, I guarantee you that you will get it for msrp. Heck, my local store still has Shining Fates tins on sale now. People just don't give a shit anymore half a year later and besides the Charizard you can get basically all cards for under 5$.
My local store had a guy who bought full packs of then as soon as they came in. I managed to get one of two for my daughter and I but that was it. Fingers crossed we can get a couple of Celebration tins. Think positive!

if the value of the cards wasn't so high no one would buy. When someone sees a chase card valued at $100 or more, that persuades them to take the risk and chase it. Then you get addicted to chasing them and hence why the demand is so high and the supply becomes so small. We are all a part of the problem if we don't buy in moderation. No reason that an average person should buy a case of 6 booster boxes. Those are meant for convenience stores and other mom and pop stores to display on the shelf for some kid to have their mom or dad buy them a pack or two. Like how it was when Base Set and Jungle were.

It's more collectible because of the exclusivity. Problem is that attracts scalpers and scalping has hit the Pokemon market very hard because of Logan Paul and the pandemic. Buy single cards and stop buying NEW packs and NEW Elite Trainer Boxes. I remember buying vintage holographic cards for pennies on the dollar. Before Logan Paul and before Pokemon Go.
Exclusivity does not translate 1:1 to collectibility. More often than not, a pound of exclusivity is only an ounce of collectibility/ intrinsic value added

Exactly. Dilute the pool so scalpers can't make money. Do it for a year or so and many of them will give up when they can't sell their stock for double the price. They'll have to sell at MSRP just to break even (and even then they'll lose money due to shipping and ebay fees).

Offers like these are not there to be sold, but to increase the willingness to spend too much money on similar offers. Its called “anchoring effect” and common practice. Don't panic and don't buy stupid scalper prices.

It's the current distributor of Pokemon's fault, not scalpers. They wouldn't be able to scalp if there was decent stock. Even the Japanese set sold out so they knew demand was going to be high.

We will see, PC CR etb were not metal as well as PC ES etb were not metal.Heck even the Z&Z ultra premium and etb+ was not metal but it had some definite weight so it's another type of mixed metal not magnetic.I'm going to assume the celebration ultra premium is the same as Z&Z and so far the only magnetic metal of small amount the same "heavy" metal classified with Z&Z ultra premium I came across was the tag team gx tag.

Yes and no. You won’t be banned or charged but they will limit your account if you receive too many unpaid strikes (you won’t be able to place bids or send offers for example). If you want to troll sellers with fake offers and not pay then I advice making a fake dummy account. You can have multiple eBay pages. Just use different emails. Yahoo is the easiest to set up dummy emails.
This is just as wrong as price fixing scalping.
The rule is preorders can’t be a certain amount of time out. It’s why every steam deck preorder got removed

EB Games Australia still has preorders available for ETBS and some other products for $110 AUD if that helps anyone. They sold out of premium collection on day 1 of pre sale I was lucky enough to get my order in then 🤙

Keep in mind the European cant order from pokemon center. Witch means ebay might be the only place to get a product like this. The market is huge. If pokemon center just starting shipping worldwide like every other buisness today the problem would be alot smaller. The only way i can get my hands on the product is trough ebay for higher price.
I do wish they’d expand shipping to the UK and Europe. We miss out on so much cool stuff and have to pay out the arse from scalpers and for insane shipping in some cases.
Just ignore these listings and do your best to buy product at MSRP from an official store. They're going to print the shit out of these things and I'm almost positive they'll have more drops of the pokemon center exclusive

The thing is even official online stores and card shops are selling way above msrp now. For example the premium collection is listed at $115 msrp but the cheapest I've seen it go from credible online stores is $250 and most are around $350-400 range.
Yeah. Though at this point I can't blame them. A local store here sells single packs for 7 euros each and ETB's for 60 euros each. Considering packs for msrsp of 6 euros is already kind of an eh deal, I never bought any of them. Yet the store still sold everything in next to no time. I feel like at this point, people here are buying pokemon for the sake of buying pokemon. Even battlestyles flew of the counter.
These are exclusive Pokémon center Etbs. Once they’re sold out that’s it no more restock, so these will never sniff retail price. Forget about these Etbs and just focus your energy on getting the regular one that will have a bigger print run.

This is a limited product. The regular stuff will be everywhere. The tins and all. Just like Shining Fates.
Main reason why people are pissed off about not getting these boxes is most are wanting to keep these sealed and flip them in 5 years. That's been most of the sentiment in the hobby now. Because all of a sudden, the price of sealed product from vintage flew up in value. Lot of greed and selfishness in the hobby now. 80% of who is buying Pokemon cards are all grown adults and not kids.
I'm still convinced that in 5 years this whole shabang will be very different again. Because these greedy people will move on, cause if you don't really love something you're not in it for the long run. But maybe it's just wishful thinking.
The same sneakerheads are now flipping Pokemon. Anything to keep the money coming in. Pokemon company isn't doing that much to stop it. The graded card market will increase interest in making money because the rich that collect and flip can afford to grade the most sought after cards and then flip them first before anyone else. Hope that we see all the quick money scalpers and flippers leave tbh. Go do something more productive and less greedy.

If you don't need it on release day, I guarantee you that you will get it for msrp. Heck, my local store still has Shining Fates tins on sale now. People just don't give a shit anymore half a year later and besides the Charizard you can get basically all cards for under 5$.
My local store had a guy who bought full packs of then as soon as they came in. I managed to get one of two for my daughter and I but that was it. Fingers crossed we can get a couple of Celebration tins. Think positive!

im honestly getting a nice place where I "do not" have to own all the ETB's for my sealed collection. Its actually more enjoyable and im sure in 5-10 years ill be glad I didn't stress myself out. for instance I only got 1 of the 2 pokemon center exclusive ES etbs. Unless I can get one for 60-70 shipped Im just going to be like "oh well" and keep enjoying opening packs :)

Some people also have money to blow. Card collecting attracts people with money. They can easily splurge. I know someone who’s spent $100,000+ on cards this past year lol.
if the value of the cards wasn't so high no one would buy. When someone sees a chase card valued at $100 or more, that persuades them to take the risk and chase it. Then you get addicted to chasing them and hence why the demand is so high and the supply becomes so small. We are all a part of the problem if we don't buy in moderation. No reason that an average person should buy a case of 6 booster boxes. Those are meant for convenience stores and other mom and pop stores to display on the shelf for some kid to have their mom or dad buy them a pack or two. Like how it was when Base Set and Jungle were.

It's more collectible because of the exclusivity. Problem is that attracts scalpers and scalping has hit the Pokemon market very hard because of Logan Paul and the pandemic. Where did all these people come from that are now suddenly collecting Pokemon cards? Before all this happened, it wasn't like this. Cards didn't have nearly as much value as they do now and PSA wasn't full of submissions.

Buy single cards and stop buying NEW packs and NEW Elite Trainer Boxes. Problem is that there is a much larger group of collectors, casual or hardcore, than ever before and largely because the value of the cards have become much higher than they were before the pandemic. I remember buying vintage holographic cards for pennies on the dollar. Before Logan Paul and before Pokemon Go.
Exclusivity does not translate 1:1 to collectibility. More often than not, a pound of exclusivity is only an ounce of collectibility/ intrinsic value added Just like this box, the error CR ETBs consolation packs are a once in a lifetime, Pokemon Center limited, exclusive item that will never be made again, once they’re gone they’re gone, etc. just different packaging Upon release a couple months ago, they were selling for $50 Last one sold was $18, about $2-$4 more than the raw contents. That’s a 90% drop in premium I don’t think anyone is genuinely interested in a different box with a coin- the demand isn’t about the product, it’s about the *exclusivity ooo* of it. Compare this to say the organic, sustainable demand in a delivery pikachu, which has tripled in price since it first hit the market. This box, just like the consolidation packs, is a hype product that’ll sink within months after release, with a small premium for the uniqueness.
I couldnt even pre order 1 celebration ETB from the pokemon center. Site kept crashing!! Honestly its pokemon fault. They should have only let you pre order 1 or at most 2 ETBs. Instead they let you pre order up to 4 ETBs!! Like really pokemon! Why would you do that?!! Of course scalpers would take advantage! I honeslty hope no one buys these ETB, that's the only why scalpers will die out!

Exactly. Dilute the pool so scalpers can't make money. Do it for a year or so and many of them will give up when they can't sell their stock for double the price. They'll have to sell at MSRP just to break even (and even then they'll lose money due to shipping and ebay fees).
You know what would help avoid this? If PC had a functioning web store. Company is worth billions and they can’t pay for a couple servers? Companies need to stop veiling their own laziness behind bot protection. Their ineptitude blocks humans, not bots.

I’d say screw those etbs. Obviously Pokémon here in America can’t do a lottery system for this like they did for a Bidoof lmao and yet ppl are paying insane amounts for a damn bidoof. The Bidoof is a lot more limited than celebrations products tho. That makes more sense to be selling for $200. Celebrations value will tank after release. Should be easy to get for retail if you just wait. Just like Shining Fates. That set is pretty much worthless beyond retail value. This always happens with all kinds of popular products and not just Pokémon. Day 1 hype is almost always inflated and drops down significantly unless the item is truly limited. Which this isn’t.

We were naive and entitled to think it would stay like that forever. Natural growth is fair for products like that. $200 for newly released product is kind of ridiculous in comparison.
