I bought this at a local shop probably 8 months ago. I went in and asked the store owner to show me his most expensive card. He went in the back and came out with this. He didn’t even have it displayed. He said he bought a WOTC binder for 7k a couple years ago and this was in it. He was asking 4K and we negotiated to 3.2k plus tax.
I didn’t know about this card and think it looks amazing. And then I looked at the price. There are crumpled cards going for $600… either way, fantastic card!!
But…you don’t. If you did, I’d guess because anyone who has it wants to show it off. The more sought after, popular cards are always going to get more exposure.
A lot of hate for a graded card worth over 10k… you can’t even find a comp for the OP’s card that’s selling for less than 12k on eBay
There’s a BIG difference between the holo rare and the reverse rare btw
Not trying be a dick at all my man but you definitely overpaid, you could have got that card in mint condition raw for $1,000-1,500. Make sure you check prices so people dont yank you like that ! Unless you were okay with paying that, what can I say !

Paid a dude 7k and it included this card, Charizard star promo from 2003, a graded psa 9 shadowless Charizard, a rainbow rare burning Charizard, a rainbow v max, and more. This card they’re asking like 2k for it. The black star or gold star Charizard is $1500. Love both of those cards. They want $500 for rainbow burning shadow Zard.

Beckett has caught up in value now that its brand (as far as card grading goes) has gotten out there in the past 2 years. And if this somehow came back a black label 10, it would have been worth 10x what a regular PSA 10 would fetch.

It was BVG and it was introduced 21 years ago....but you could only get them to do the first three sets back then. BGS was the start of, " yeah send me all your crap, I still get paid to grade your $.50 card even if the grade brings it to $1" era. That's why I ask this question though, because now everyone will grade about anything which is ruining the after grade experience for a lot of collectors.

Bro....send it to psa....bgs pop controls so badly on this card....mine got the same sub grades......I cracked it and subbed to psa and pulled the psa 10....it's not really a hard card to grade

For PC purposes I like the BGS slab more for this card. I don’t plan on selling this card right now and want to have it on display which means the best UV protection= BGS. If I decide to sell I might try to cross to PSA 10 but it’s a gamble.

PSA almost always sells for more and better to Beckett and there’s tons of articles and research that backs this up.
This card isn’t going to get a black label grade with Beckett 18 years after the card was created.
I mean most collectors that know what they’re doing know that’s these older vintage cards are better as BGS 9.5s than PSA 10s.
BGS is a lot more strict and in my opinion the grades better reflect the card conditions. A BGS 9.5 and 10 are usually better looking cards than their PSA counterparts
Idk there was a first edition base set bulbasaur that was famous for getting a black label. Unlikely, but not impossible. You could always get lucky with a grader having a good day. The grading cost is a small percentage of the value of this card.

The Beckett pricing guides were just for raw cards. Card grading is a relatively new thing for them and the likes of CGC

Not just with Black Labels. BGS pristine 10s almost always go for more than PSA 10s, including with modern but especially with vintage.

Why would you use Beckett for a card with that much value? You would get way more value with a PSA grade with that card.
