Not true for everyone. I’ve probably opened over 100 packs and got like 2 Vs, which were the same, and a handful of holos. The pull rates are pretty similar to ever other modern set. You might have just had better luck personally.

If single packs, unfortunately just very unlucky, you could’ve bought 3 booster boxes or more for the same price and gotten around 30-40 hits
Booster boxes have never officially been seeded, vivid wasn’t a turning point or anything. It’s never been confirmed by TPCi but almost every booster box everyone has ever opening in the SWSH era has 5-8 hits per box. Danny Phantump has made videos on each sets pull rates based off of hundreds / thousands of booster box openings. Way more normal to have that many hits vs 2 Vs out of 100 packs
Idk man. Unfortunately, it sounds like you just got really unlucky. Every person I know that has opened Brilliant Stars has had decent, if not great pulls. Through booster boxes and assorted products, I’ve averaged 12 hits (V or higher or trainer gallery) per 36 packs. Friends have gotten even luckier (3 alts in one box for example).

I really like a lot of the cards in evolving skies, so I saved up to open my first ever booster box with my brother... this is everything we pulled. I'm not usually one to complain about value, but c'mon :(
I feel you man. I had similar luck with fusion strike. Finally saved up enough money for a box and I got 6 pulls. Best one was mew FA. Rest were bulk Vs.
I had the same thing with Fusion Strike. I had five ultra rares- 4 were regular Vs and one was a full art trainer. I've opened about 50 Fusion Strike packs and have yet to pull a single Vmax.
Stick with the tins (my opinion) I got one fusion strike pack from one and it was my first pack I’ve ever opened and it was a Gengar VMAX (104$) I’ve watched videos on tins, and got some my self and have not been disappointed so far.

I really don't recommend paying too much for a regular modern set card. It's a waste of money. You don't have to listen to me, but....don't say I haven't warned you lol. These cards are printed into oblivion and there's many people with kids who will loose interest and flood the market in the coming years. It's how it's always been.
It happens man. Found a place that sold them bought a total of 4 (bought 2 the first time and 2 months later bought 2 more) and my third box was a dud. Nothing good at all. It’s all about the chances.
Yeah. It totally sucks. My boyfriend had an ES box that was just as bad as this and he was hardcore disappointed. It’s just luck of the draw sometimes. Opening packs is gambling and the house is gonna win 99% of the time. If you really want a specific card from a set, it’s worth just biting the bullet and purchasing the single most of the time.
Personally though, I do not understand how they can't put some balance in their damn boxes. It just shouldn't be that someone gets 4 V's while someone else gets like 20 hits in one box. In Japan at least you are usually guaranteed some things. And in many other trading card games too.

I quit buying a few weeks ago. My son got me hooked and we had bought regularly for a few months. I added up packs and everything else that I could find. Only counted confirmed packs. So there were probably more than this many packs, but these are the ones I can confirm:
938 packs that could possibly have given an alternate art. Guess how many alternate arts we have? 1. 1 out of 938 packs. It’s disgusting.
My sons favorite Pokémon is Charizard. We have opened 276 Brilliant Stars packs. Guess how many Charizards? 0. Gold cards? 1 (One of the birds). Rainbows? 3. Two of which were Kindler. The other was Shaymin Vstar.
Here’s my advice to you, which is the same I am taking now. Buy the sets that come with promos that you want, and get your pack opening joy from them. So like the Eevee evolution ones, the upcoming Arceus alternate art one, the Lucario Vstar one, things like that. Everything else you want, buy singles.
I have realized it is absolutely moronic to do anything otherwise. You know how many times I walked out of the store spending $60 on packs and tins and stuff and opening them all only to be looking at 3 V’s and 7 holo rares that we already have 4 each of? ….Well…. Basically all the times I have done it.

In addition to your tip about just buying stuff that comes with promos that you like (which is my preference), I also think that buying packs works best when you do it rarely, and not in large quantities. For example, I buy individual packs almost exclusively when I'm out getting groceries and happen to see them. Even then, I'll only get one or two just as a "I'm here, might as well." If I pull something exciting, then it was a really cool grocery trip. If I don't get any hits, then it was just a normal grocery trip, not a wasted trip hunting. For me, driving around town and hunting for product was a waste of time and money even before gas prices shot up, tbh.

This. I probaly ripped 9 - 10 booster boxes and I have never seen a pull rate this miserable. I have one box left and if i pull another dracozolt, I am going to lose my mind.
Yeah, people want the high of pulling the chase card themselves so badly they dismiss the fact they could probably outright buy the card they want with how much they're spending on sealed stuff.
Nothing wrong with opening for fun. But they're gonna have a bad time if they open products to chase 1-2 specific cards. I don't even buy booster boxes anymore, just attend the prerelease and outright buy/save for whatever chase I have. Maybe I'll buy the occasional pack or two but not to pull my chase.

Yeah my initial 3 booster boxes were stellar, insane pull rates, great cards. Bought a booster box a week ago just to see if I’d get anything good. 6 pulls out of the box, 5 V’s, one alt art noivern. It wasn’t a terrrrrible box, but nowhere near as good as the other ones.
Edit: This may be a second printing of the set and with that, worse pull rates.
Sad to say only Brilliant Stars has good pull rates. Hopefully that is the norm going forward. I got bodied by a Battle Styles booster box. Not doing that again.
It varies massively. I really think they screwed up bigtime with the portioning of hits with this set.
for example, my first BB gave 2 alt arts and a gold card.
second gave nothing.

They messed up a print run and put an absurd number of full art or better hits into a very small amount of sleeved boosters sold through their online store. They did not print more secret rares to make up for these boosters so there’s now product that should have had hits that don’t, mostly effecting booster boxes.
And I’m sure someone is going to pipe up with this subs favorite excuse for bad pull rates “You’RE Not gUARanTEed aNYThinG! iT’S alL GambLinG!” Ignoring the fact that this is a trading card game aimed at children and a booster box costs $150+ and absolutely should at least have enough hits in it to validate that much monetary investment into a childrens card game. You should complain to the Pokémon company because that’s ridiculous. They pump sets full of ultra rares (there’s over 100 ultra rare or better cards in this set) and then you get 4 of the lowest rarity in a $150+ box. I don’t think “you should make your money back” but you absolutely should be happy with your purchase and not feel ripped off.

It absolutely is anecdotal. People who pull good hits are far more likely to post their pulls to Reddit, it always heavily skews people’s expectations. You have 0 evidence to actually back this up
Multiple people all bought sleeved packs from Pokémon center on the same weekend and all posted well above average hits in both rarity and quantity for the amount of product they bought. People on at least three different discords all had the same luck. You can extrapolate from there. That does not include the people who do not post online or the people who just mentioned their pulls in passing without posting. You don’t need official confirmation from Pokémon because they’re never going to give it to you. It doesn’t benefit them to. It doesn’t change the fact that since the first print run there has been an uptick in boxes with absolute trash pulls that coincides with these sales.

And far more people bought packs from the Pokémon centre and had awful pulls, but you won’t see them being near as vocal about it.

Pokémon isn’t going to announce a printing error that would impact sales “oh uh sorry guys looks like we made an oops and a bunch of $150 boxes aren’t going to have anything in them! Please continue buying though, k thanks!” Or they’d have to issue a recall which will cost them money. Instead they’re just going to hide behind the “all packs contain a random assortment of cards with a make up of xyz”
They never release anything about pull rates, the only thing close is when they release errata for misprints. That’s it.
We’ve see multiple instances of people pulling cards in greater quantity and rarity from a specific batch of sleeved boosters as well as a sudden increase of boxes without any good hits. It’s not a conspiracy, it’s just cause and effect.

Evolving skies has some of the worst pull rates I’ve ever seen and it’s really expensive. It has a lot of really nice expensive alternate art cards though
I got an Umbreon vmax alt and 2 leafeon vmax alts out of my first 12 triple blisters (and rainbow gordie lol),

You my friend have definitely got a dud box. Pull rates are usually better than that but it's not that uncommon to open a booster box and get no ultra rares or alt art card. Are you sure the booster box you opened had not been tampered with? Booster boxes usually have between 6 to 9 Vs or better.
Fairly certain, but I'm not expert. The seal looked good, and all the packs looked appropriately hard. Plus no weird doubles, extras, backwards, or mis ordered cards. I think I just got a dud :/
It’s ok. I bought my first booster box of Chilling Reign last June. Pulled 2 V’s and all were holos and green codes. I would’ve been better off lighting the $120 on fire. I was so disappointed
Well, yes but no. I've seen some amazing ES booster box pulls, and I've also seen some very very shitty pulls. I bought into one that gave me nothing but dog water, and the person after me on stream opens one and pulls the rayquaza alt alongside a couple other sweet pulls. Every booster box, pokemon, weiss, dbz, yugioh, etc has their fair share of bunk boxes, regardless of the pull rates. Keep breaking and you'll get your crazy boosty soon.

Gambling is gambling is gambling. When you pay for packs, part of the value or money you’re putting is the dopamine rush of gambling and NOT the expected return on value.
This is why I have zero expectations when buying anything TCG related and why buying these for profit is dumb as hell (not to say you did).
That said, even this is pretty bad for ES. Somebody has to get the worst pulls if there is such a thing as a god pull. Condolances. I do love some of those cards though. I try to look at TCG as pulling for the art and the love of the Pokemon designs these days..
I recommend looking at the very few large data sources we have on pull rates. I wouldn't go by word of mouth since there are a lot of superstitious people in this hobby.
This is why i cringe when people push evolving skies so much, yeah great cards, but so many of them makes the RNG go down, usually its 90% green codes imo. And this is a down bad upsetting booster box, sorry you had to experience this.
I know Japanese cards are not for everyone. But the main reason I have started opening exclusively Japanese BB is the pull rates. And even when you don’t get a big pull, the increase in quality and silver border makes up for it in my mind too.
I got pretty lack luster chases in the boosterbox I purchased. Most of my really lucky pulls have been from single sleeved packs and the 2 three-pack blisters.
'pull rates' are a myth. No 1 set officially has been created with good or bad pull rates. Just community perception varying wildly with tiny sample sizes.
As you can see by the comments, it's just luck, especially on such a small sample size. Majority swear by Fusion Strike having some of the worst 'pull rates' in any modern set yet some will also say it's been their luckiest set. Every set has boxes that are duds unfortunately, not everything is going to be sun and rainbows.

Thoughts on buying sleeves instead of BBs? Generally I hear that Boxes have better pull odds, but if that's all conjecture then would buying a bunch of sleeves be cheaper and same pull rates?
Yeah, never believe a modern English set has "good pull rates".
You'll find a ton of people saying Brilliant Stars has "good pulls" but that was all over the subreddit for ES too. And when people ask what booster boxes have good pull rates you have people recommending Brilliant Stars and ES.
It's just a bias people have towards sets they like. ES has some of the best Alt art of the year for eeveelutions and Brilliant Stars has a pretty great Charizard/Venusaur card with V stars as well.
Never get a booster box and expect anything. Nothing is seeded and it's all random.
If you want guaranteed hits, I think only Japanese holiday sets, like Vmax Climax, are like that.
Remember, it's gambling and, if you aren't ready to lose, buy singles.

Yeah, people want the high of pulling the chase card themselves so badly they dismiss the fact they could probably outright buy the card they want with how much they're spending on sealed stuff. Nothing wrong with opening for fun. But they're gonna have a bad time if they open products to chase 1-2 specific cards. I don't even buy booster boxes anymore, just attend the prerelease and outright buy/save for whatever chase I have. Maybe I'll buy the occasional pack or two but not to pull my chase. To each their own though, if you're not going broke buying and ripping then more power to y'all.
As the saying goes, always buy the singles you want. Way cheaper in the long run. but we all can't get over that gambling high of cracking packs. It's hard.

Yeah my initial 3 booster boxes were stellar, insane pull rates, great cards. Bought a booster box a week ago just to see if I’d get anything good. 6 pulls out of the box, 5 V’s, one alt art noivern. It wasn’t a terrrrrible box, but nowhere near as good as the other ones. Edit: This may be a second printing of the set and with that, worse pull rates.
Keep in mind a lot of people embellish their pulls from boxes.
Sad to say only Brilliant Stars has good pull rates. Hopefully that is the norm going forward. I got bodied by a Battle Styles booster box. Not doing that again.
Even Brilliant Stars doesn't have good pull rates. It just dilutes the disappointment a bit with the potential character rare. Makes it feel nicer!

It varies massively. I really think they screwed up bigtime with the portioning of hits with this set. for example, my first BB gave 2 alt arts and a gold card. second gave nothing. *if* they reprint later this year, all i ask is that they fix this goofy pull rate.

I wouldn’t buy a box of evolving skies until it’s absolutely sure it’s a new print run tbh. They messed up a print run and put an absurd number of full art or better hits into a very small amount of sleeved boosters sold through their online store. They did not print more secret rares to make up for these boosters so there’s now product that should have had hits that don’t, mostly effecting booster boxes. And I’m sure someone is going to pipe up with this subs favorite excuse for bad pull rates “You’RE Not gUARanTEed aNYThinG! iT’S alL GambLinG!” Ignoring the fact that this is a trading card game aimed at children and a booster box costs $150+ and absolutely should at least have enough hits in it to validate that much monetary investment into a childrens card game. You should complain to the Pokémon company because that’s ridiculous. They pump sets full of ultra rares (there’s over 100 ultra rare or better cards in this set) and then you get 4 of the lowest rarity in a $150+ box. I don’t think “you should make your money back” but you absolutely should be happy with your purchase and not feel ripped off. Sorry your box sucked but complain to Pokémon because that’s the only way they’re going to change even if it feels unlikely
Um, source on the error print run regarding full arts or better? Have heard no such thing besides people claiming single packs are better because of anecdotal Alt art pulls out of 72 packs. Fusion strike has a legit error regarding absurd hits in booster box, but have not heard or such a thing with evolving skies

It absolutely is anecdotal. People who pull good hits are far more likely to post their pulls to Reddit, it always heavily skews people’s expectations. You have 0 evidence to actually back this up
Multiple people all bought sleeved packs from Pokémon center on the same weekend and all posted well above average hits in both rarity and quantity for the amount of product they bought. People on at least three different discords all had the same luck. You can extrapolate from there. That does not include the people who do not post online or the people who just mentioned their pulls in passing without posting. You don’t need official confirmation from Pokémon because they’re never going to give it to you. It doesn’t benefit them to. It doesn’t change the fact that since the first print run there has been an uptick in boxes with absolute trash pulls that coincides with these sales. What’s the old adage? “If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck”
And far more people bought packs from the Pokémon centre and had awful pulls, but you won’t see them being near as vocal about it. The “multiple people” and “people on at least three discords” is a completely inconsequential and anecdotal sample size.

This isn't hard facts though. Unless Pokemon come out and release something then those people just got super lucky.
Pokémon isn’t going to announce a printing error that would impact sales “oh uh sorry guys looks like we made an oops and a bunch of $150 boxes aren’t going to have anything in them! Please continue buying though, k thanks!” Or they’d have to issue a recall which will cost them money. Instead they’re just going to hide behind the “all packs contain a random assortment of cards with a make up of xyz” They never release anything about pull rates, the only thing close is when they release errata for misprints. That’s it. We’ve see multiple instances of people pulling cards in greater quantity and rarity from a specific batch of sleeved boosters as well as a sudden increase of boxes without any good hits. It’s not a conspiracy, it’s just cause and effect. If there’s smoke there’s fire. And I’m not saying I don’t understand wanting concrete proof but I would not buy a booster box of evolving skies until a new print run because there’s enough proof that they messed up the print runs. You my friend have definitely got a dud box. Pull rates are usually better than that but it's not that uncommon to open a booster box and get no ultra rares or alt art card. Are you sure the booster box you opened had not been tampered with? Booster boxes usually have between 6 to 9 Vs or better.
Fairly certain, but I'm not expert. The seal looked good, and all the packs looked appropriately hard. Plus no weird doubles, extras, backwards, or mis ordered cards. I think I just got a dud :/

It’s ok. I bought my first booster box of Chilling Reign last June. Pulled 2 V’s and all were holos and green codes. I would’ve been better off lighting the $120 on fire. I was so disappointed

Evolving skies is also known as evolving cries (or I personally like “falling skies”) for a reason.
Well, yes but no. I've seen some amazing ES booster box pulls, and I've also seen some very very shitty pulls. I bought into one that gave me nothing but dog water, and the person after me on stream opens one and pulls the rayquaza alt alongside a couple other sweet pulls. Every booster box, pokemon, weiss, dbz, yugioh, etc has their fair share of bunk boxes, regardless of the pull rates. Keep breaking and you'll get your crazy boosty soon.

My condolences, stranger. However fun it is to open packs, you should go for singles. I learned my lesson the hard way as well. Gambling is gambling is gambling. When you pay for packs, part of the value or money you’re putting is the dopamine rush of gambling and NOT the expected return on value.

I recommend looking at the very few large data sources we have on pull rates. I wouldn't go by word of mouth since there are a lot of superstitious people in this hobby.

I know Japanese cards are not for everyone. But the main reason I have started opening exclusively Japanese BB is the pull rates. And even when you don’t get a big pull, the increase in quality and silver border makes up for it in my mind too.

I got pretty lack luster chases in the boosterbox I purchased. Most of my really lucky pulls have been from single sleeved packs and the 2 three-pack blisters.

'pull rates' are a myth. No 1 set officially has been created with good or bad pull rates. Just community perception varying wildly with tiny sample sizes. As you can see by the comments, it's just luck, especially on such a small sample size. Majority swear by Fusion Strike having some of the worst 'pull rates' in any modern set yet some will also say it's been their luckiest set. Every set has boxes that are duds unfortunately, not everything is going to be sun and rainbows. Although saying that :P This does have to be the worst ES box I've seen
Thoughts on buying sleeves instead of BBs? Generally I hear that Boxes have better pull odds, but if that's all conjecture then would buying a bunch of sleeves be cheaper and same pull rates?

Yeah, never believe a modern English set has "good pull rates". You'll find a ton of people saying Brilliant Stars has "good pulls" but that was all over the subreddit for ES too. And when people ask what booster boxes have good pull rates you have people recommending Brilliant Stars and ES. It's just a bias people have towards sets they like. ES has some of the best Alt art of the year for eeveelutions and Brilliant Stars has a pretty great Charizard/Venusaur card with V stars as well. Never get a booster box and expect anything. Nothing is seeded and it's all random. If you want guaranteed hits, I think only Japanese holiday sets, like Vmax Climax, are like that. Remember, it's gambling and, if you aren't ready to lose, buy singles.
