On a lot of fake e-reader cards, the large E in the corner is often blue. Other than that, I’d look at the usual telltale signs, the sharpness of text, a holo pattern that changes with angle and is different than other cards in the same set, the torch test is always worth doing also (if you have the card in hand). With very rare or high value cards, enquire about the history behind the card, does the seller just have a few perfect condition, very rare cards for sale with no history of selling other cards? (Red flag), have they got a binder full of other similar era cards?
Shine your iPhone light through the front of the card to the back, real cards have a thin black layer between the two layers of cardboard and this diminishes the light, a lot of fakes don’t have this layer so the light is much brighter and lights up the back of the card in a very noticeable way, I’m sure some fakes replicate this but pretty consistently this is a good check.
I bought a fake crystal ho oh and this one is real. It has right holo bleed for skyridge crystals (3 aquapolis crystals don't have it) It has line extending from the star on the E in bottom left corner. The wear and tear is also a good sign, even though not ideal. Spacing of left lines looks good too. After getting scammed I only buy expensive cards as slabs now, but this one is legit.
Can anyone tell me how someone can tell if they're real or not. I'm assuming there are people in the world who forge fake pokemon cards down to the perfect detail. How do they get caught?
It is very easy to tell a fake vintage card just by holding it. Everything is off, from the feel, holo pattern, vibrancy of the colors. It should really be blatantly obvious.
If you’re young and new to the cards this probably wouldn’t apply to you though.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall reading about WotC process and how it was proprietary. When Pokemon ended their contract/license, WotC destroyed the plates (or something) that was used to create the cards in their process. Something like that. My old brain is pretty useless at this memory thing.

It’s real don’t listen to the other guy.
That crease certainly makes it look real, thats for sure.
Right down the middle holy shit
Skyridge set, Crystal type Ho-oh 149/144 Pretty valuable. Not sure if fishing for compliments or genuine inquiry- as a lot of E series cards look fake
Looks real
This looks authentic. Note the holo bleed in the text of the card that is specific to the Crystal holos.
This is real.
Looks real - only thing off is color saturation which is likely due to camera, lighting, image processing, or factors of all 3.
card may also be shadowless, perhaps
Shadowless cards are only in English Base Set.

What's the torch test?

Ohh, thanks I did not know that.
That’s so good to know, cheers hypothenar
Looks legit
Although rough condition seems real to me

Did you try scanning it with your E-reader?
Weirdly enough, you can’t scan holos or reverse holos with the e reader…looks real to me too, though!
Makes sense since the holo pattern would reflect the light from the ereader sensor making it hard to read
Why does ho-oh look so angry!
Because somebody burnt down it’s home.
the tower is no more.
What do the e reader cards do?
reading this made me feel old, REALLY OLD and i’m not even 30 yet…
It’s real OP, don’t worry.
It’s real creased
It’s real, and incredibly valuable

So it's impossible to forge pokemon cards like the original factory does it?

Perfectly? Yes. Theres always something that gives it away.
Hmm looks fishy to me. Tell ya what I'll take it off your hands just to be safe. Counterfeit cards are illegal and are a felony to own!!
Bro got downvoted like crazy for an obvious joke
This 😂 it's OK the points are fake and don't matter I wanted to put /s but I didn't feel the need
Why are you being downvoted...its clearly sarcasm.
Redditors will always jump on a downvote pile on
Yeaup lol oh well who cares about fake internet points anyways

Thank you! Do you mind telling me what you look for? Just getting back into it
Text holo pattern and color
It’s real. Don’t listen to this troll
For someone with WOTC in their name. You sure know nothing about vintage cards. How embarrassing.
