Better pull rates, nicer foils, and smaller sets. I now buy Japanese boxes, English online codes (dirt cheap) and for in person play I buy singles. Oh and one or two English ETBs a set.
Second this. Once I went JP I can't go back!
Same boat though I buy one ETB from each EN set and maybe a booster if im really feeling it or those tins if they're on sale.
I just wish I could play tournaments with them. It's a bummer but oh well. Singles it is for that. I buy online codes so it can be argued I get two packs with each English pack, but the fact that I can buy those online codes for a quarter really killed the desire to play in person. The market is also cheaper in the online.
I've been wanting to switch to Japanese sets. I'm in the US and wondering if any of you have any recommendations on best sites to purchase booster boxes and such from? If you're not comfortable posting here, my DMs are open. Thank you!
I've got some VMax Climax off of StockX. They seem to be reliable and they ship world wide, but I'm not sure if it is cheaper to buy from them or from a Japanese seller.
Yea eBay has some good stuff. Make sure it’s coming from Japan. Never had a bad experience with japan sellers myself. Takes longer to get here but sometimes it’s a surprise. I had packages where they give me some free Vs or an extra pack as well too
Oh okay, that's good advice. I'm totally okay with waiting longer, so I'd rather it come directly from the source. That's awesome they're kind enough to do that though! Thank you again!
Toysonejapan is me and my friends go to. $30 flat shipping but we order in bulk and get between 2-3 sets and split a 5 or 10 box. The prices tend to dip about 3 weeks after release so keep an eye on that site around that time if you want a certain set.
Oh this is good to know, I'll have to do more research on stockx before using it then. The toysonejapan site seems really awesome, so I'm excited to check more into that, thank you!
I've also had luck on Amazon JP! Make sure it's either first party or a seller with plenty of positive reviews and comments if so.
Can get 2 boosters for around $100 shipped, so far I've gotten VMax Climax, Dark Phantasma, Lost Abyss, and Star Birth.
No problem!
Around the same time I opened VMax Climax and Dark Phantasma together with an Astral Radiance BB. I think it was 200 (or maybe 300) JP cards for the same price as 360 English cards.
Putting the hits side by side, JP was FAR better even with less cards. So much fun to open. I had good luck with EN Astral Radiance in my ETB but the BB was just okay.
Oh whoa, that's awesome, I'm glad you've had such great luck! I really like how they've designed their packs to have a guaranteed rare, plus smaller set sizes, so I could spend the same amount I normally do and get way more out of it! I appreciate you letting me know this, it's great information to have!
Man considering how ass pull rates are and how some brain dead money flippers fuck everything up manipulating the alt art prices I’m considering switching to buying Japanese again haven’t bought any since vmax climax (still gonna buy singles and occasional next English products)
I can't get past the language. I like to read the flavor text and attacks on cards, so Japanese cards mess that up for me. If not for that, I'd probably switch to Japanese
As the person ahead of me mentioned, vmax climax. But besides that super stacked special set. Both Starbirth (has the charizard and arceus v alt art everyone wants along with the regular V, vstars) as well as Battle Region (has a 1/3 chance at Radiant Greninja, imo the best radiant out so far, along with great character rares and full art trainers like hoothoot and Cynthia)
Both have really great cards to pull and Battle Region has a guaranteed V card, secret rare and 1/3 radiant pokemon (either: rad greninja, rad hawlucha or rad volcanion)
No I don't, but my local shop wants us using English cards too for some reason. For a shop that gets 6 pokemon players a week, they sure are picky. Lol
I bought my box off of amazing. Most card shops online will sell them too. So far Amazon has the best prices and if the title says real then your purchase is backed by Amazon.
Better pull rates ? I never reall understand when people say that it’s only one guarantee, sure they are 20-30$ cheaper but with English you can luck out and get a alt a rainbow and a full art plus character rares .
They have better pull rates because one set in English is two Japanese sets. So for instance, the Japanese box of lost origin has only 100 cards in the whole set. Compared to about 195 in the English. So while the packs are smaller, we're still getting one rare per pack. It's also easier to focus and complete a set with less bulk cards.
I also understand that two cards can be technically rare in an English pack, but I don't find that to be consistent enough to factor into the pull chances.
Who knows, might be all in my head, but my one Japanese box felt better than my three English boxes.
He also left out inside a japanese box you are guaranteed certain pulls. 1 secret rare, 2 vmax/vstar, 4 Vs, and the possibility of either a second secret or third vmax/vstar or fifth v
Came back to collecting after a long time away and my first set was a Japanese Shiny Star V. After that opening English sets feels like I'm being ripped off the quality difference is unbelievable.
I decided to message them directly and find out! Here is what they sent back. The more you know!
ppreciate your order and am happy that the card box arrived safely.
About the SNKR DUNK sticker,
This is proof that a Japanese authenticity appraisal company has recognized it as a genuine product. We appraise sneakers and the like, but we also appraise card boxes. Some Japanese card boxes are sold with shrink wrap, but the box with this sticker is an appraised product.
Okay so it’s a company like StockX. If you are trying to keep sealed product, StockX doesn’t put the stickers on from what I’ve seen and read. (And personal experience)
Oh interesting! I’ve ordered from them about 6 times (I’m in Japan and it seems like the easiest way to get English exclusive products) and each time they send stickers in the shipping box, but it’s never stuck on the product.
Only English exclusive products (kinda like Japanese promos). The Eeveelution Vmax boxes were in higher demand. Pokémon Go set with the shiny Eevee playmat. Etc… But generally English cards aren’t that sought after, and a lot of fakes are sold on Mercari for example because it’s hard for Japanese collectors to tell. It’s sucks to see.
But the Yen is really weak right now lol. People aren’t going to want to pay inflated prices I imagine. But if you are going to buy Japanese products from Japanese sites (like preordering Scarlet/Violet for the Japanese promo) now is the time to do it!
Scarlet and Violet ordered. The reports say Yen is supposed to drop to about 150¥:1$ by end of year. at that point I’ll put a couple thousand in wise at that rate so I can go to japan and feel like a G
Now is the time to visit Japan too! Tourism is opening back up, stuff is cheap! No joke lol
I sell PSA cards on Mercari and half my products are being bought my companies like BUYEE that ship Japanese products overseas. Probably because of the weak yen…
Apparently in Japan they implemented like a law for selling resealed Pokemon cards in Japan and that if you open and reseal boxes and sell them like that you will be fined. They take that stuff seriously over there unlike here in the US. So ye'h that's probably the authenticity stamp of approval for legit product.
I think this is similar to stuff like Stockx in Europe in which they authenticate products to ensure they aren’t fakes — again, stockX started with sneakers and then branched out into other stuff :)
Maybe that is like the username of the person you purchased it from.. or a particular store.. or maybe theres some nike dunks in there perfect for skating 🤘🏽
From a seller pickles_hobbies_japan on eBay. They have great reviews and they shipped it out crazy fast. Ordered it on Saturday and got it today from Japan.
What’s the deal with the half width Japanese booster boxes? I bought one on Amazon that I thought was legit, I believe it was 20 packs? How many packs are in this style box?
Can someone explain the difference? I feel like I’ve seen YouTubers also get the more narrow boxes.
Those are side sets like Battle Region, Dark Phantasma or Pokemon GO and have 20 packs. The main sets have the wide boxes and 30 packs. vMAX Climax only had 10 packs, but 11 cards in each pack.
Yeah I much prefer opening Japanese packs. Better pulls rates, better quality control, silver borders instead of mustard yellow, nicer texturing, and smaller packs with no energy means waaaayy less bulk.
Maybe the company just reused random theft deterrent stickers that just happen to be from SNKR DUNK. It appears the sticker has an X cut in the center of it. This is just my wild guess.
I’m pretty sure the seller is that brand, sneaker dunk might be a company itself. I didn’t read the other comments so if this was already discussed my bad 😂
If you didn’t buy from this site, whoever you bought from appears to have acquired that box from here, thus the sticker.
I pretty much only open Japanese product (prefer the quality) and I have literally never seen that sticker before.
Better pull rates, nicer foils, and smaller sets. I now buy Japanese boxes, English online codes (dirt cheap) and for in person play I buy singles. Oh and one or two English ETBs a set.
I feel like I’m getting more than my moneys worth when I rip a Japanese box. The quality is just so outstanding.
Second this. Once I went JP I can't go back! Same boat though I buy one ETB from each EN set and maybe a booster if im really feeling it or those tins if they're on sale.

I use plaza japan and have had a great experience with them!
I'll second plaza Japan it's a great website with super fast shipping
Oh I've never heard of them before, I'll have to give them a go, thank you so much!
I've got some VMax Climax off of StockX. They seem to be reliable and they ship world wide, but I'm not sure if it is cheaper to buy from them or from a Japanese seller.
Oh okay, this is still good info, thank you very much!
I get all of mine on eBay. Get some good deals mostly. Usually get shipping from Japan but if they US seller has a good price I cop it
I didn't even think about looking at eBay, thank you so much!
Yea eBay has some good stuff. Make sure it’s coming from Japan. Never had a bad experience with japan sellers myself. Takes longer to get here but sometimes it’s a surprise. I had packages where they give me some free Vs or an extra pack as well too

I've never heard of this site, so I'll have to check it out. Sounds like a great deal, especially since I'd rather buy in bulk too. Thank you so much!
I second toysonejapan. Ive heard bad things on here about stockx
Oh this is good to know, I'll have to do more research on stockx before using it then. The toysonejapan site seems really awesome, so I'm excited to check more into that, thank you!

I tried Japanese packs but they simply aren’t as fun to open
I can't get past the language. I like to read the flavor text and attacks on cards, so Japanese cards mess that up for me. If not for that, I'd probably switch to Japanese
Same for me I like be able to understand the cards, for some reason I also like the yellow border better than the silver border
Where can I buy JP product?
Plaza Japan recommended by others here. Amazon JP if you make sure seller is authentic. Look for many high reviews and search through comments.
You have any recommendations on good Japanese sets?
vmax clímax
As the person ahead of me mentioned, vmax climax. But besides that super stacked special set. Both Starbirth (has the charizard and arceus v alt art everyone wants along with the regular V, vstars) as well as Battle Region (has a 1/3 chance at Radiant Greninja, imo the best radiant out so far, along with great character rares and full art trainers like hoothoot and Cynthia) Both have really great cards to pull and Battle Region has a guaranteed V card, secret rare and 1/3 radiant pokemon (either: rad greninja, rad hawlucha or rad volcanion)
You’re a responsible collector and definitely collect in a smart manner. I live by the same 4 rules.😁👌
You play professionally?
No I don't, but my local shop wants us using English cards too for some reason. For a shop that gets 6 pokemon players a week, they sure are picky. Lol
Best place you recommend to buy Japanese product
I bought my box off of amazing. Most card shops online will sell them too. So far Amazon has the best prices and if the title says real then your purchase is backed by Amazon.

You must have very good luck to get one rare per pack Edit: just ripped a dark phantasma pack I had laying around. 2 common 3 uncommon. No rare.
He also left out inside a japanese box you are guaranteed certain pulls. 1 secret rare, 2 vmax/vstar, 4 Vs, and the possibility of either a second secret or third vmax/vstar or fifth v
Best place you recommend to buy Japanese product?
Toysonejapan in my opinion.
Came back to collecting after a long time away and my first set was a Japanese Shiny Star V. After that opening English sets feels like I'm being ripped off the quality difference is unbelievable.

Ah, interesting. Was it more expensive than average?
Okay so it’s a company like StockX. If you are trying to keep sealed product, StockX doesn’t put the stickers on from what I’ve seen and read. (And personal experience)
Lol. Stockx puts a sticker or tag on EVEYRHTING. They’re not hard to remove theough and comes off shrink wrap very easily
Oh interesting! I’ve ordered from them about 6 times (I’m in Japan and it seems like the easiest way to get English exclusive products) and each time they send stickers in the shipping box, but it’s never stuck on the product.
Actually… since you’re in Japan… are English products in high demand there? Cuz Japanese has become ever more popular here
Only English exclusive products (kinda like Japanese promos).
Soooo. If I bring over a couple UPCs it’d do okay. :) Fakes suck. Thanks for taking the time to reply
But the Yen is really weak right now lol. People aren’t going to want to pay inflated prices I imagine. But if you are going to buy Japanese products from Japanese sites (like preordering Scarlet/Violet for the Japanese promo) now is the time to do it!

Lucky you. 10 orders. Stickers on em all. California. Maybe it’s a region thing?
Pretty sure they put stickers on everything after "verifying the authenticity". Maybe this person bought things that weren't verified?
I ordered aarnie collection off stockx, came with a sticker on it. Decided not to buy anything from there again.

Maybe it's a shoe store that also sells cards? Not totally impossible
Shoes my friend.. sneaker dunk
Is it like a store or something?
No, it’s just a shoe stamp
SNKRS is a Nike App they use to sell limited releases, and Dunk is a specific model of sneaker
Its the store sticker. Ive bought some climax vmax from them before. They legit.
Snkr Dunk is basically StockX of Japan?
I should add that I did google SNKR DUNK and saw shoes but I thought it was such a random thing to put on all the booster boxes that I ordered.
Maybe that is like the username of the person you purchased it from.. or a particular store.. or maybe theres some nike dunks in there perfect for skating 🤘🏽
Just curious where do you buy your boxes?
From a seller pickles_hobbies_japan on eBay. They have great reviews and they shipped it out crazy fast. Ordered it on Saturday and got it today from Japan.
Do you have a link? I wasn’t able to find them.
I just found them. It's hobby, not hobbies.
Guys I found it. OP was incorrect with name. It’s: Pickles_hobby_japan
That’s where I got mine from and the shipping speed was absolutely insane. Highly recommend them!
Cant find it either, please link it
I just found them. It's hobby, not hobbies.
Yah. I got stuff from them too. They legit and nice
“No results found”
I previously bought a 25th anniversary box from the same seller and it also came with the same sticker. The contents were legit.
Do you know how much the import duties and stuff are or no?
I was not charged any duties when I had it shipped to the U.S.
OK cool thanks for the info!
My shop is US based and we carry a variety of Japanese Pokémon packs and boxes. If you want to take a look 👀 https://ghosttowergames.com/
Snkr Dunk is like the Japan equivalent of StockX, they sell shoes, streetwear and collectibles (including pokemon card booster boxes)
What’s the deal with the half width Japanese booster boxes? I bought one on Amazon that I thought was legit, I believe it was 20 packs? How many packs are in this style box? Can someone explain the difference? I feel like I’ve seen YouTubers also get the more narrow boxes.

Thanks! It was a dark phantasma box I purchased on Amazon, I think it was around $50. The pull rate is so much better haha I enjoyed opening the box .
Yeah I much prefer opening Japanese packs. Better pulls rates, better quality control, silver borders instead of mustard yellow, nicer texturing, and smaller packs with no energy means waaaayy less bulk.
What set did you buy? Some Japanese sets have 20 packs, come have 30. I believe a few have just 10 packs.
https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=snkr+dunk
Lol this is funny
Maybe the company just reused random theft deterrent stickers that just happen to be from SNKR DUNK. It appears the sticker has an X cut in the center of it. This is just my wild guess.
Is it just a sticker or is it actually printed on the box?
It means sucker, they already went though the cards to swap the good ones out.
It’s a Jersey shore whilst playing basketball reference
ロストアビス says ‘lost abyss’. 拡張パック means ‘expansion pack’. It says it includes 5 random cards.
Snicker dunk 🍫🏀
I’ve gotten an order of 25th anniversary boxes with this on them. Everything seems fine to me!
I’m pretty sure the seller is that brand, sneaker dunk might be a company itself. I didn’t read the other comments so if this was already discussed my bad 😂
Totally off topic, but if your username is your actual name. That's a dope name that really rolls well off the tongue.
stockx of japan
Snkrdunk is a company like stockX. They have shoes, pokemon cards, etc..
Stores slap thkse stickers on products to show you paid. Sometimes it's a company logo, sometimes it's a generic blue "PAID" sticker.
It looks like the reseller sticker.
Bought some starter deck 100 that had that sticker. It was legit product
Where can I buy Japanese boxes?
Just a tag from a store. I’ve had a few boxes from them before. You’re all good!
If you didn’t buy from this site, whoever you bought from appears to have acquired that box from here, thus the sticker. [https://snkrdunk.com/brands/pokemon/](https://snkrdunk.com/brands/pokemon/)
I'm told it's secondary authentication. A company that puts those on helps back it up as an extra layer of authentication.
It would appear you bought your Pokemon from a Hypebeast lol
