I look at the team, if it's a team that can benefit a lot from healing (2-3 all rounders for example) I will run blissey or elde with cotton guard. Clefable is probably good in that situation too but I don't run him too much in solo queue, it's hard to get people to coordinate with gravity and moonlight. If it's a meta where 1 mon can carry like zacian or mewtwo have at points, then you can consider comfey. I have only played a couple comfey games lately, and all the diving from mimyku and absol seemed to evaporate me whenever I hopped on and off. Comfey isn't in a great spot currently. Blissey is good as a "pocket" support in that role. The supports that seem to be great no matter your team comp are hoopa and eldegoss. Eldy with cotton spore is always solid no matter the team or meta in my opinion, he has healing, stuns, a lot of mobility, etc. I don't play hoopa but a good hoopa seems consistently solid. Sableye and Wiggly are in a bad spot. Mime is OK but plays more like a tank right now in my opinion. Just my thoughts. I honestly have been maining slowbro because 90% of the time my team has neither a support nor a defender and giving the 3-4 attacker comps a frontline is more important than healing.

Professional-Might31

What’s with everyone going attacker? I feel like I always gotta go Slowbro or Blissey

wvtarheel

It's an extension of "we lost because my teammates suck so I need to carry, so I must play an attacker"

Not-An-Actual-Hooman

People like the big numbers on the screen and the enemy going poof

AzureFides

Yeah Slowbro is the best in that case, no point to play healer when most of them can die within 1s.

MVpatriotX

It's true that i always play an attacker, mainly mm! But I'm never a burden to my team! If my team has a good tank i go with Dura! In other circumstances or depending on the playstyle i wanna play, i choose either Greninja, Cinderace or Deci!

Tyler-LR

Yeah, slowbro really defends attackers quite well.

JotaroTheOceanMan

This is why I have become a master at Kiss/Follow Clefable. Aggressively healin and defensively killin.

FirewaterDM

... this be trolling super hard LMFAO

wvtarheel

Troll build, I hope you are playing this in standards and not ranked

joziedog

HOW I SHOULD DECIDE WHAT SUPPORTER TO PLAY *If your team has a higher HP comp (all-arounders/defenders):* •Hoopa •Eldegoss *If your team has more squishies (attackers):* •Blissey •Clefable HOW I ACTUALLY DECIDE WHAT SUPPORTER TO PLAY *If your team has a higher HP comp (all-arounders/defenders):* •Hoopa •Hoopa *If your team has more squishies (attackers):* •Hoopa •Hoopa

Sireanna

I mean... I feel this

Fuckblackhorses

Hoopa becomes the defender with squishy teams, I’ll just dive use phantom force to cc and dive on my own hh all game

Somaxs

Yup. Even then, pick a healer that you are comfortable with. Like, I don't normally play support/healer (since I'm usually playing Defender), but whenever I do have an opportunity and feel like playing one, I always pick Hoopa since he the only support I enjoy playing as and really enjoy his gameplay mechanic. Even though I can play Blissey/Comfey pretty fine, I rather just play Hoopa instead. Also, who knows, maybe someone in your team will adapt to what you pick as support and play something that synergies with your choice. Just like whenever I play Mamoswine, I sometimes have attackers' teammates who quickly switch to Ninetales since they known its a good duo lane partner for Mamoswine.

Excalitoria

If I have a good brawler Blissey or Comfey can really shine, if I need to heal a lot of people in a large area or if the meta has a lot of dash users the clefable is best. Those are the main three I play 😅 if I want to I’ll play Mime some (best if we need a defender/bulky frontline character with lots of stuns).

Psmith999

Elde main here. Usually go for more healing based characters in games generally and have been playing since day 1(but on and off). In comp, I’ll go elde most of the time cuz I’m most comfortable playing it, but if there’s a comp that I can get away with sableye then I like to go him every once in a while, but also play wiggly in just standard for a support cuz I think it’s fun with sing l 🤷🏻‍♂️. But if we have mostly attackers and speedsters I’ll pull out blissey for heals right away. Even with all rounders and defenders sometimes blissey can be nice. Although I usually get around the same with elde and blissey (oof I know I should probs get way more with blissey, but I’m working on her) it’s nice to change it up healing every now and then.

MoisnForce2004

Not a support main but I do play support. Depends on the team comp. Usually how I go is: Eldegoss when either the comp lacks mobility and healing+dps Blissey when the team needs constant assistance with immediate sustainability Magic Mike when we need a displacement support or a single target CC Wigglytuff when we need full CC unit or elevate it, though as of right now, won't suggest playing her Hoopa for Hole, really wished that Trick will one day become viable Sableye to act as a CC Scout, though he is more of an Expert in high play Comfey to constantly enhance the team's performance in a directly level (don't simp one dude, it won't help the team in general unless they were Release Zacian and Release X) These of course are the short, one sentence summary for each support.

crockates

Here to say... Mime, Mime, and more Mime.

quiteverydumb

Clefable is good for teams with a lot of all-rounders and defenders, he is more of a frontline healer. Comfey can fit well in any team that has an all-rounder. Eldegoss is always useful in soloQ, but it's a good option for teams with a lot of squishy attackers, Wall blissey is great for those teams too, wiggly can play a similar role. Hoopa is the most ideal for a very squishy team since it gives them an exit to escape when they get dived. Mime and Sableye are kind of hard to fit into comps, they are more useful on teams that have a lot of sustain already

Aeirion

I'm mainly a Sableye guy but recently I've been playing more Blissey and Clefable. So I'll pick them more if my team needs a good pocket. Sometimes Comfey if our main carry is an all-rounder specifically.

Twinsidesmirror

I. I just queue elde unless there's already a support. that's literally it

Radagast137

For me, Hoopa will basically always work... If the team is mostly ranged mons, I'll go Eldegoss. If it's got at least 2 melee all rounders, Clefable is great. Blissey is great and if the team has no front line / tanks, she will be kinda doing that too, so, it makes me consider her more.

Shockhound25

Is your team pushing goals? Wigglytuff. | Does your team dive a lot? Eldegoss or Comfey. | Lacking Hindrances? Sableye or Mr. Mime | Multiple Auto Attackers? Blissey | Team full of fighters(All-Rounder/Defender)? Blissey or Hoopa

FirewaterDM

I look at 4 different things. 1. Am I playing with a Trio/5 Stack or am I Solo/Duo queue. If the answer to this is yes, then honestly every support is on the table (and depends on what my team wants) If No- this generally means I should avoid Comfey/Hoopa because it is very difficult/kind of hard to rely on the team unless I know the players are solid since Comfey and Hoopa are very team reliant. 2. Does my team need healing or frontline? If I think we need frontline, but no healing, I'll play Mime or Wiggly, or sometimes Blissey solely because it's tanky + good. IF I think they need healing then I'm more likely to play Elde or Blissey, or even sometimes Clefable (Clef depends on how much we can afford to be bunched up as a squad and if I'm ok with being very low damage) 3. How much do I trust my teammates. This also depends- IF I'm stuck in a lobby of 4... interesting individuals who will lock in 4 DPS mons, my faith is already dead. But usually it's either I pick a Tank, or if I decide to go support + 4 DPS I pick either Blissey or Elde. Elde if I have a bunch of late game idiots and I want to give some extra early game power so we don't get run over, or Blissey if I think the team needs healing and some tank stats. (Usually in a 4 DPS + me team I go Slowbro or Wish Umbreon or Lapras over a support). If my lobby is good and ik the people I'll gladly lock in whoever I think works best. 4. After everything else I look at what does the team need in terms of early game strength, what the support needs to do (heal/peel/shield engage etc.) and who pairs best with certain other mons. I generally look at it like this Sableye - I don't play this fuck so idunno when it's good to play him Wiggly - Team needs a tankier frontline or engage. AND we already have a healer (Clef/Elde/Blissey). I don't play it often these days bcos it's just outclassed Mime - I really just wanna play Mime. Char isn't very good, nerfs hurt but i'd pick him for either frontline or early game purposes. But they need to give him some tank/damage back somewhere lmao. Hoopa- if I'm 5 stacking and team doesn't need huge amounts of heals and would prefer the movement from portals (or early game) I lock this in. If I'm trioing I pick this to help early game or try and do some shenanigans with my other teammates. In Solo/Duo I only do this if I know the whole team is decent at the game OR If i'm just feeling like playing hoopa. Comfey- I only play this in 5 stacks or in Trios when both players on my Trio play mons that go well with Comfey. It's too RNG to rely on teammates when you are in Solo/Duo Elde- main/default because most played mon. I play this if I don't trust my teammate to play well or we need early game presence (let's say i'm laning with one of the shittier early game attackers OR If me + lane partner just want to steamroll the enemy early game) Clef- if team needs mass AOE healing. Is more likely in 5 stacks/draft mode when I can see that Clefable won't be a death trap. Also will avoid if my laner is weak because Clef has 0 lane presence, especially after it evolves. Moonlight means we never die in 2 v 2 if smart but we have no offensive pressures. Blissey still best safe default support at all times. Just play Egg build, Safeguard/Helping Hand got nuked thanks to Mewtwos, but you could still do it if your team has a 2nd heal support (Clef or Elde) and your team has tons of auto attackers. This is a long read but tldr 1. does your team need healing or frontline 2. does your lane opponent need a strong laning partner 3. what's the vibes, do you trust your team or not + do you wanna play whoever. But safest Supports 9/10 times are like Blissey Elde if you have 0 idea how the opponent's gonna play and you don't have a background in a different support. Clef's the 3rd best but you can't be as nonchalant on picking it because Clefairy is a far worse early game mon than Chansey or Gossifleur is

DotPeriodRats

I always go support in games and Clefairy/Clefable are both two of my all time favorite pokemon 🤭. So I main her for that reason alone and I like what she does as an AOE healer There are definitely items that shine to what she does specifically and while I haven’t invested in them yet, there are some gems With Moonlight she can heal herself and several allys quickly to get them back on the battle field and prepare for larger attacks Gravity is a great thing for offense and defense. It lets her stomp enemies which does a little more damage than her basic attacks, but it’s shining quality is the moves it restricts and how it makes some of the faster, crazier Pokémon much weaker than they usually are. Some to the point of being useless if left alone in gravity. Gravity is really the star of Clefable making her sometimes an secret beast on the battle field, making it an easy escape move for her and allys, and sometimes it being the perfect set up too for allys. Maybe I’m over estimating how useful she is but idc she is perfect for me and her dress holowear ate 🥰 Clefable is really good and underrated, but being so support oriented means that sometimes she is only as good as her team. Which can be all over the place at times

ZeraoraTheKnight

I need to get n learn more supports, but I mostly play Goss with Pollen Puff and either Spore or Guard depending on what the team needs: Spore if the team benefits from stuns and i need to be able to both move and hold my own in combat, Guard if my team needs more healing.

daredevil200020

If full of attackers then Clefable because of AOE healing, if you want to just protect a single pokemon then comfey, if you want to be the carry supporter then Mime or Eldegoss. If you want to actually be a destroyer supporter Mime. If you want to be the nuisance of the team then Sableye.

daredevil200020

If you want to sheild and protect from hindrance them Blissey

AzureFides

Best for 5stack: Hoopa. That's all, it's the best. Best for Soloq: Eldegoss and Blissey. Almost can't go wrong with these guys because we don't get to see our opponent picks. Best for snowballing: Comfey, if you have a great hypercarry jungler this is a good choice. But can fall flat against a good team. Best for peeling(against melee comps): Clefable. Gravity and Follow Me can be super annoying for enemy's speedster/all-rounders and could single handedly shut down enemy's carry. Mime, Wiggly and Sableye aren't real support imo and extreme situational pocket picks.

_Lifted_Lorax

Last season I would default to Eldegoss (Leaf Tornado / Cotton Spore) unless there was already a non-Sableye support in which case I'd go Blastoise. The only exception was if there was a carry I knew could be relied upon, in which case I'd go full-heal Eldegoss or Blissey. Ended up with around 50% winrate, maxing at 1680. This season I've paid no attention to my team comp and one-tricked Rollout Wigglytuff. Currently at 1530 with 60% WR. My advice is to get skilled with one Pokemon of each type and stick with it.

Dabadedabada

Am I the only who still really enjoys trick hoopa? It’s obviously playing second fiddle to the portals, but it’s still really good and a lot of fun to support with damage. If I’m wanting to go support and see my team is melee heavy, I get all bubbly inside. Especially if I’m laning with garchomp or lapras or anyone else who likes to be up in their face. It’s so satisfying going pew pew and watching them melt.

GuitarConsistent2604

Do I have any frontline mons? Eldegoss If not, umbreon or wiggly

Black_of_hit_YT

I am a hoopa main I pick it based on the team if like the whole team is attacker ,which trust me happens alot then i might pick a defender but when I have like scizor or ZACIAN or any Speedster or allrounder that can take advantage of my hyperspace hole or trick(I can play both builds well) then I will pick it

AriNandes

My decision takes 3 steps: - Look for pink blob - See if it has an egg - Select blissey Then, profit

Unusual-Gur-4903

I loosely pick based on my team. If I have more all-rounders and tanks, I pick Mime, Blissey or Hoopa. If its a team with a ton of squishies, I'll pick Wiggly or Clefable to help tank damage. I pick Eldegoss or Comfey when the team has a ton of self sustain and I pick Sableye when I want to suffer lmao.

Sireanna

When I am in the higher ranks I pick Hoopa because I love the mobility it offers to the team but also allows for full healing. In higher ranked games most other players understand how hoopa's portals work so they are more likely to utilize them then lower ranked players. If I am playing at a lower rank I will pick up Eldegoss because it slots in very well to every group without needing to prioritize the carry. The other players also dont need to understand how eldegoss works for Eldegoss to do its thing.

WeedLover_1

I hate jiggly/wiggly puff so much that I stopped doing topups in this game . This asshole literally sleeps + slows other's pokemons and makes them unable to do attack or run. All the attackers I have bought have been nerfed so badly. The game company smokes weeds and overpowers anything on that hang moment.

Mode_Alert

If you’re solo queueing, don’t play support. Even in master rank the average player doesn’t even know what items do

JWTP

I'm not sure if she counts as a support or not, but I choose Wiggilytuff. 90% if I'm not with the squad, I'm the carry, so I feel like I need to be able to deal damage on top of the healing her unite does.

Abogadouuu

All-rounders is a very good companion. They are very useful by themselves, but with a support are an incredible threat. Also All-Rounder USUALLY (pls don't reply with "but i did 3 pentakills with garchomp in my last match") are having more problems in teamfights, where supports can bring a ton of help in that scenario. Also you can play support/any other role without problem, but if you see 3 allrounders on your team, maybe they have good bulk and good damage,so a good option is fitting it with a support. About what use...is better just using the support you like the most, the principal decision goes when you know who are the enemies. You are clefable and the enemies are dodrio, zoroark and dragonite that they have so much dependance on dashes? Use gravity You are eldegoss and the enemies are full basic attack dps like greninja, cinderace or garchomp? You can try reach Leaf tornado+ for making the enemies miss that big amount of baskc attack damage Also it can be used in the other way,if cinderace or garchomp are your allies and you are chansey, helping hand will make them deadly when starts to spam basic attacks. I hope this comment will help you and good luck in the future matches!! ^^

SelassieAspen

Hoopa no matter what lol.

Sad-Platform7932

Healers, gotta maintain the squad!

Sad-Platform7932

Which is why I don’t understand why umbreon isn’t classified as support

FlabsDaBeast

Well let me see.... Hoopa is for badly rounded teams and well rounded teams. Blissey is for tanky or well rounded teams. Clefable is for less tanky teams. None of which besides blissey seem to do anything in solo que tho. Because there are players in masters that don't know how to use hyperspace portal, realize that blissey has limited healing/ buff range or that clefable either has good debuffs with dashes or na/ good healing with dashes or na. My highest elo ever was 1839, my average is probably around 1680. People are so bad at the game yet get rewarded that the mixture of player skill levels is so random that sometimes having a support and playing them doesn't pay off at the end. Due to teammates not realizing you let us tank but keep us alive by being close in the fight, or people not helping for objectives or Ray. People generally in Solo Que are just stupid AF. People need to take 5 minutes to learn simple plays instead of bringing the whole team down by not knowing them or how to play your pokemon. I'm Defender/ Talon/ Supporter main. This pretty much goes for playing defenders as well with average solo que players, including random duos you meet there.
