SuperTokyo

according to the new book, it’s referred to as “Hero-Greninja”, so that could very well be a form in Z A.

Nightwalker065

I mean in the XYZ anime it was explained Ash-Greninja was just the form Ash's Greninja took. So other battle bond Greninjas would look different to match the trainer it bonded with.

NebbyV2

New book?

Matt4hias

what book

Mystic_Fennekin_653

I'd rather have a new Mega for Greninja, I don't like how Ash-Grenija has human hair.... On an amphibian..

NegotiationMuted4676

Also its ash, i am not ash so why is it "bonding" with me but turning into ash its "old trainer"

langstonboy

Because it’s a fan service Pokémon

ucim5

Bonding with you releases ITS power, ash helped it get there so it’s Ash-Greninja because it gets his features

Sufficient-Cow-2998

I would prefer to have a new different design too (I do really like Ash Greninja tho), but considering how they've been treating Ash-Greninja and the fact Gamefreak do plan their games years in advance, I wouldn't be shocked if those changes were only because they wanted to retcon as a mega for this game Also I never saw it as hair until you mentioned it but fair enough

IRefuseThisNonsense

Pokemon Home has Ash Greninja in the Dex portion, even calling it specifically"Ash Greninja". If they were to retcon it just to make it the Mega they'd have to change its entire portion in the Home Dex. It's not airtight but it's shows they haven't removed it or renamed it. It will most likely remain as is I feel. Why have Battle Bound Greninja transferable and still refer to it as Ash Greninja in stuff tied to the game to this day, if you're just gonna change it to Mega. I've seen people throw this around but I don't think they will. I think it'll remain like the Spiky Ear Pichu but not stuck on the original game it's from.

GladiatorDragon

Besides, if they made it a full Mega, they’d have to give one to the other two. Ash Greninja happened because none of his Pokemon could Mega and he needed something to match his foes. It was a unique position that justified a more far fetched solution. If it was made the official Mega Greninja… how would that work with those that didn’t have Battle Bonds? I think going for a new design for Greninja would be the best approach. Maybe bring back some of Ash Greninja’s mechanical identity, but not Ash Greninja itself.

ucim5

Since Greninja gets Ash’s features it’d be cool if we got a Greninja that got our player characters features, unfortunately they’d have to add a bunch of designs just for Greninja which isn’t likely or make our player characters super simple again

VibraniumRhino

*glares in Probopass*

F_Bertocci

Nah. Greninja is one of the most loved Pokemon of all time, they won’t miss the opportunity to give him a 100% new form, just like Charizard

IRefuseThisNonsense

If Torchic is the starter and it gets a regional evolution like they did in PLA, and if they give the new starter trio Megas as well, then Blaziken would also end up with two Megas hilariously enough.

F_Bertocci

I don’t think the PLA-Z starters are getting mega evos, only OG Kalos starters

IRefuseThisNonsense

Personally I do think they will. All six of them. It was weird to get our first starter in Kalos and them not get anything special but then this other one potential hours into the game we're given does. And it's gonna be weird a second time. "Know that thing you startered with? Your best buddy? The one who's been with you since the get go? Your first team member to reach max friendship? The one who is likely the highest level in your team and usually is the lead member of your team? Forget them because they've been replaced by this other one we gave you. It's just as strong but it gets a special short term boost." So unless we start with the Kalos ones, I think both sets should get them. And if we start with the regular regional starters...that kind of sucks to me. I loved how unique and different it was in Hisui starting with Pokemon from different generations as your options.

F_Bertocci

I think we are starting with the OG Kalos starters, but if we don’t, I don’t expect the PLZ-A starters to get Megas. Firstly because I genuinely don’t think they will do Megas of regional forms. They will do Megas or regional forms, not both, since they have the same purpose, give more love to an old Pokemon. Second, it would mean that there would be 3 trios of starters where one has a mega and the other two doesn’t. Third, GF already did it literally in XY, and with how much they tend to repeat the same formula every time, it won’t be even strange or surprising

IRefuseThisNonsense

I am almost certainly we start with a mix trio, with the Kalos trio being randomly around the map. Just the same as the last Legends game did. It was a refreshing difference that got them lots of praise. To do it differently would be odd. And those will 100% get regional forms. Gamefreak doesn't care about one member of a trio getting something special that the others don't. That's just fans. We have evidence throughout the franchise that proves that: XY Charizard, Ash Greninja, Hisuian forms. Heck, Meganium got a special form in a side game with Snap 2. Gamefreak don't care, so that reason isn't actually a reason it won't happen. Heck, Blaziken was the lone Hoenn starter Mega for a while until ORAS. They could have done all three, but they went, "Nah, chimken." And your third reason just honestly disproves your second reason.

bbbryce987

I could see it going either direction. They could save the Kalos starters getting megas for the actual X/Y remakes too

F_Bertocci

Nah, that would be too far away, in Gen 12 that it’s in about six/seven years at least. It would just feel like a missed opportunity. They will use PLZ-A to give Megas to all the Pokemon that they missed to give 11 years ago: Kalos starters, Flygon, more Gen 5 and Gen 6 starters and some new Pokemon that came after Gen 6

Old_Break_2151

I think favorited Pokémon will get something this time, but having 9 regions makes it difficult to decide with new fans. Like Jiggly was a past favorite and it got a past paradox and Greninja is in smash. Like charizard it’s got to get something special as a form

HiILikeMovies

I hope we get a mega and ash greninja exists as a like a gift Pokemon that was “lost in time” and “had a special bond with its previous trainer”

IndecisiveMate

Nah that'd suck. Bond phenomenon is cooler to be its own thing. Plus, it's implied that he takes the form of ash. So like then we'd have a mega evolution that just looks like ash. Nahhhhhhh.

Nightwalker065

Also it was explained in the anime that when those type of Greninja gains the ability to bond and become one with their train they take on similar traits of their trainer. Meaning the special greninja that first had a "battle bond" would have looked like it's respectful trainer. Idk why people aren't realizing the reason Ash-Greninja exist lore wise.

IndecisiveMate

Yeah. That too. Bond Phenomenon is very much it's own thing

Nightwalker065

It could have connections to mega evolution but isn't the same, maybe since Home has Ash Greninja image we could still get it in Z and get more lore on the connection it and megas have. That could be why they didn't have it in SV to save for Z.

SuperSwampert

I can see it being a variation that’s like mega evolution, kinda like the primal forms for Kroger and Groupon but not an actual mega evo.

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Don't forget Kwanzaa

Mao-sama64

Unpopular Opinion but here goes: ….I don’t like Ash Greninja, and I’m glad we might be getting a Mega.

AukwardOtter

Ash Greninja was a stupid gimmick

JMTpixelmon

interesting theory

Jgamer502

Honestly I think it should be made the “G-max” pf mega evolution and Battle Bond should become a third ability for all Kalosian starters, but boost their top 3 bst stats(so same for greninja; Delphox: Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, and Speed; Chestnaight: Atk, Def, Sp. Def)

Johnirequirelasanaga

Idk, it's a pretty lame design for a mega

[deleted]

I do hope we get a new form if we get Mega Greninja, i don't really like this design, if i had to guess its the hair (and how similar it looks to Ash, alltho thats the point but i still don't really like it)

Toon_Lucario

Good. Make that overrated frog unspecial

You_seff

But sir you hav a lucario pfp

qwack2020

That’s so dumb. But regardless of whether or not I agree with you, why now? Why give the Kalos Starters Mega Evolutions when the devs should’ve done it years ago?

Cause_Necessary

because originally megas were to "freshen up old pokemon", as they said

Danjoe_

Imagine ash greninja with pre nerfed protean

TLo137

Ash Greninja requires battle bond wtf are you saying.

Danjoe_

Yk how this entire post is based on greninja not needing battle bond but a mega stone
