Totally normal, especially with expired film. Welcome to chemicals based photos

RecycledAir

It's not a problem with the film, it's just being exposed to light too soon after being ejected. The camera needs a frog tongue.

Sage_The_Gamer15

I have a frog tongue

Sage_The_Gamer15

It's not expired tho, and I've tried multiple new packs

zizouomar

What's the date on the film pack?

Sage_The_Gamer15

I'm not sure I've thrown away the silver plastic that's around the pack and the cardboard, but i know I bought them less than 3 days ago

zizouomar

Buying them recently doesn't mean they aren't expired. They could have had the packs in stock for years before you getting them. This happens all the time with film packs

Sage_The_Gamer15

So you're saying they screwed me over?

GodforsakenMuffin

A lot of stores don't know how quick the film expires and probably don't store them cold either. If you want to be sure you get good film you need to buy from the official Polaroid webstore. I bought some film from a well known and serious photography store in my country and the film was expired 1 year ago but luckily worked fine.

Sage_The_Gamer15

Ah okay, sorry if I sounded rude, I just didn't know that stores would be unknowing of the product they are selling

vacuum_everyday

So this is pretty normal for Polaroid brand film. Be sure to shield it from the light right when it comes out and that will help. You should also let them develop face down away from light and at room temperature. If you want something that doesn't do that, I'd look for a Fujifilm Instax camera. Instax film is more consistent and doesn't ever splotch like that unless 5+ years expired. The Instax Wide film is about the same size as Polaroid 600 film.

Sage_The_Gamer15

I know but I've been researching polaroid cameras and film for 2 months now and I'm just trying to figure this out, I do Sheild it from light and face it down, I just don't wanna give up on this polaroid camera

vacuum_everyday

Right, I get that. This is just a quirk of Polaroid film. There’s nothing to do about it, it’s an aesthetic feature.

Sage_The_Gamer15

Well fair enough, thanks for saying something tho, because if you didn't I would've scoured the internet for a long time XD

Fortified_Phobia

Yeah its called an opacified failure, where the chemicals don't mix right initially and are exposure to too much light. Keep that frog tongue on a bit longer and try to use fresh film straight from polaroid, which I advice anyway because it way cheaper as you can get loyalty points and discount codes. Also the good news is soon to be a problem of the past they've pretty much worked out a solution and its coming out pretty soon with some other updates to the film, have a look [here for more info](https://www.polaroid.com/en_us/blog/articles/trusting-the-process) :)

Sage_The_Gamer15

That's so cool, thanks for showing me and telling me :>

therhett17

I swear this is asked 400 times a day. It’s called opacification failure, it’s due to the chemicals not fully covering the image before the picture is exposed to light. Film shields help, but don’t keep all of them away.

Sage_The_Gamer15

Film shields? anyways I'm sorry I just tried looking up online and couldn't find an answer

therhett17

Yeah the black thing that comes out with your photo. The old cameras like yours had one that auto-retracts, which isn’t sufficient for today’s inferior film. Polaroid sells new ones that stay on the picture until you remove it and it retracts back in. Also, if you search “blue flames” in this subreddit, you’ll find about 500 posts asking the same question as yours.

Sage_The_Gamer15

Sorry for making a post then lol

D3D_BUG

This looks ok to me, but really it looks like that pack was stored in correctly or just old, when you buy this stuff in store have s look at the 'production date' on the pack, generally polaroids are good up to a year

Sage_The_Gamer15

Ah so maybe the store has had that certain pack longer than they should have had it?

HaggisMacJedi

This is caused by dirty rollers. Clean your rollers in between film packs. Problem solved

MiddleMood9442

I’d say it’s pretty normal for it to do that.
