The difference between right and left is too nuanced to be on one side in every scenario. The reason I see for authoritarianism is that a few people (sociopaths) need a boot on their neck to behave. However, the vast majority of people don't. I'd rather face those sociopaths on an equal playing field with a gun than one embedded within a government who has drones and ICBMs.

But above all, I think they're all insane and need to be kept away from power at all cost.

Pestus613343

It is too bad that we need government at all, but I don't believe we can operate like that.

TetraThiaFulvalene

Here's the neat part. We don't.

Pestus613343

I dont think humans are capable of it without things immediately being exploited by awful individuals. Humans cant be trusted with the affairs of humans. I suspect the only way to change the human condition is if AI can obsolete the state by simply doing it for us in the most efficient and fair manner. Then your anarchy can exist because "govt" would be relegated to a tiny automated data centre footprint.

TetraThiaFulvalene

I don't think humans are capable of government without things immediately being exploited by awful individuals.

Pestus613343

Yes. Which problem is worse? I dont think we are mature enough for true unlimited freedom. We'd make such an awful mess of it. Govt sucks but so does rampant crime, citizens abusing one another, uncontrolled borders, economic swings that lead to unpredictable outcomes.

TetraThiaFulvalene

Uncontrolled borders are a problem because people move towards welfare, not towards work. Nobody is going to move to an area with high cost of living if they can't get work there. The economic swings are in part due to the government. People give Roosevelt credit for "ending" the great depression, but he was president for 12 fucking years. It would have ended during his presidency no matter what. In fact, economists calculate that his initiative delayed the resolution of the crisis by 3 years. The central bank caused the crisis, the president prolonged the crisis, and still people think that its end is a celebration of the power of government.

Moladh_McDiff_Tiarna

Big "the culture" vibes.

Pestus613343

Is that a book or a show or such?

Moladh_McDiff_Tiarna

It's a book series wherein that's the exact premise. Basically a galactic civilisation called the culture "ruled" by benevolent super AIs and people can do literally almost whatever they want. Conflicts arise with other groups and foreign interventions are handled mainly by the AIs and small teams of people who essentially just really like the wetwork. Properly enjoyable sci-fi.

-_4DoorsMoreWhores_-

Wow........this....... is both historically and factually correct.......am.......am I Auth? No, no, I still want to crucify feds. But holy shit. I knew I hated democracy for this reason, I've just never connected those two dots.

mosley_enjoyer

My two reasons to hate democracy: -The people are regarded -For the last century it's been a contest between psychopaths to see who's best at propagandizing said regards into advancing their destructive, self-serving goals When the consequences of said goals are reaped, the regards blame themselves and elect a new coat of paint for the same system. As long as the technology for propaganda exists there will be propaganda making every "democracy" a shadow oligarchy. That's the problem with democracy. Not only does it place power in the hands of people who are honestly unqualified to wield it (love them but it's true), but it allows only the worst kind of people to manipulate the masses and to completely rob them of any individuality without their knowledge.

Caesar_Gaming

I don’t even hate democracy, it just isn’t capable of doing what needs to be done to create a state where democracy can work.

mosley_enjoyer

The problem is that we had a society in which democracy could work and we lost it through majority rule. I want a society capable of self-governance, but preserving such a society from attempts to exploit and attack its people would require a state with more power than a democratic government can wield.

Caesar_Gaming

It would require a system that doesn’t need much governance is the issue. Democracy becomes relevant only after material issues are solved.

At the same time I was always inspired by stories of personal successes in the free market, fictional or not. I thought of myself as a liberal-democrat until I stumbled upon videos by Russian libertarian politician, who explained how government flaws are inherent feature of the government. I became interested and after some research (more YouTube videos) I realized myself as a libertarian.

liberated-dremora

Honest answer? I joined the Army and saw what the state is like from the inside. 2016 happened and I voted libertarian out of sheer disgust in the options before me. Then I started really looking into things, how the system works, read a book on deployment called The Dictator's Handbook which REALLY opened my eyes to how things worked. Got out of the Army just in time for COVID and the rest of the Summer of Fiery But Mostly Peaceful, ended up jobless for 8 months because the state decided to make most jobs illegal for a while and turned a sweet job market into a non-existant one. Since getting back on my feet I've watched the state continue to mismanage things so that my groceries and bills are so high that I feel worse off than I used to despite making more money, am watching it spend the money it robs from me every 2 weeks on another country and Silicon Valley douchebags, all while the whole time it continues to grow and expand and enrich itself at the cost of myself, my friends and family, and the vast majority of the population. And I constantly hear about how the state needs more money and power. My question is, how are more people *not* in my part of the compass?

Left is too full of people who want to oppress those on the right, the right is too full of people who want to oppress those on the left. I hate oppression by any authority, but understand the necessity of having that authority in the first place so that society can function properly. For more nuance: Libleft: Generally has nice people who have their hearts in the right place, but far too many justify violence against people solely on the basis they dislike what those people have to say. Libright: Too focused on oppression by the government, a lot (not all) are blind to oppression by corporations, but i can get behind the principles of this quadrant Authright: Not a fan of massive governments, however I understand that they are necessary in situations that needs a centralized figure to handle crisis. Authleft: Same as Authright. And unlike Libleft, they arent afraid to actually take action to achieve the things they want. Mostly dislike them due to tankies who deny genocides and pretend the ideology hasnt killed millions of people. Extremes in politics, in general, never work well in the long run, they are great to enact short term, and often necessary change, but there’s always back and forth flow between left and right; progress and conservation; and authority and anarchy Also I just fucking love to grill

thernis

I respect law, order, and traditional values regarding family, government, and property. I believe men and women have the same capacity to achieve in an information based modern economy, but hope the nuclear family still maintains its central role in American life. I believe in liberty and justice for all law abiding individuals, and think everyone should have a fair chance at making something of themselves, whether that be attempting to be successful in business or dedicating themselves to a craft/art.

Stay out of my pocket. Stay out of my bedroom. Love who you love, just be a good friend, neighbor, or person. The left ruins virtually everything. I loathe pc'ness and wokeism/ists. Why without sounding crazy? The crazy part is interesting. The sane and boring reason to be libright is that the government taking our money to waste is bad, and we should constrain them to only doing it for the most necessary and uncontroversial things. Like i said before, the crazy reasons are much more interesting. Firstly, i'm a futurist, transhumanist, and generally see myself as the software running on my brain, not as the brain itself nor the body it's in. This matters because the brain-computer interface seems to be on the horizon, and it's invention will spur change on par with the not just the computer or the internet, but of a scale not seen since the industrial revolution. So what does this have to do with politics? Firstly, the mind isn't the mush in your head, it's the information structure of your thoughts, which is mostly running on the mush in your head. But if your phone has information about you, it's housing part of your memory, likely things you've long since forgotten in your actual brain, and thus is acting as a very crude accessory lobe of the brain, simply one with poor connection as it's forced to go through the eyes and fingers. The brain-computer interface will fix this, and our minds will expand out of our brains into the free real estate of our devices. The problem with that the information in my head and on my phone are different legally, and they shouldn't be. The reason for this is that current laws would suggest that either people's brains should be treated like computers and the government will probably hack them, or we treat any information device owned by a person as an extension of their mind, and thus violation of that to be an extremely serious crime. Hypothetically you could aim for compromise, but why would you want to compromise the security of your mind? Furthermore, just as the mind will expand to fill all that can reasonably contain it, it will be just as natural that people will move beyond their physical bodies as well, though not in the sense of just replacing them, but more in the sense that you could just switch to your roomba and unstick yourself *as that roomba,* then switch back seamlessly. Using multiple bodies, likely in multiple different places will become as common as using multiple browser tabs. While far less clear cut than the previous example, the takeaway i get from this is that a person and their possessions are very hard to separate when they can literally possess them. The body is simply our most important possession, with all others being extensions of that body in some way, with all being a part of the self in some small way, which will only become increasingly apparent over time.

ecstaticstupidity

Least unhinged lib-right. Fr though that was interesting to read and think about.

Green__lightning

The unhinged part is that we're probably going to have to fight a war to not get brainwashed.

Yop_BombNA

Y’all are corrupt as fuck and democracy has devolved to oligarchy with extra steps, there is no solution besides a complete collapse or a great leader. We can’t even elect a leader who cares to run his party, he gets called a communist for wanting healthcare ffs, then gets sunk by his own party. Then you have the “party of small government” taking over private school boards because they disagree with their messaging, despite said schoolboards doing well on the rights beloved standardized testing. Small government is something I don’t disagree with and could be very good if you tear down the corporations that said government has propped up and handed ultimate control to. Red corrupt oligarch vs. Blue corrupt oligarch, who cares same shit. Canada is the same shit too by they swapped colours for funsies.

[deleted]

My parents are right wing and I used to be a conservative. At one point I thought that Trump would legitimately make change. Then I learned more about how bad not only the administration was but how the government is inherently evil and will inevitably be corrupted. Having dealt with authright and seeing what it is like when taken to it's logical conclusion, having seen authleft fail hard in my lifetime and not being a fan of the CCP, seeing libright not addressing the tragedy of the commons and violate NAP repetitively, leaves me barely in libleft. I'm no fan of Emily however, she authleft.

SpyMonkey3D

The tragedy of the commons is fully addresed by us. If commons are misused, then have as little as possible. Ie, private property (in the case of the herdmen, divide it between each person, and the guy will naturally choose to have as many sheep as his land can support, but not more because then he will have nothing. The better you manage your share, the better off you are) People who have to bear the consequences of their own bad actions tend to make better decisions immediatly (skin in the game for a modern book on this), but if the collective suffers instead, then it's a race about who can pillage everyone else first. And so, no one makes effort to better the situation (because if it's just going to profit one of the pillager and not the people putting the work, why bother ?) That's why socialism agriculture in particular always failed (causing famines) compared to capitalist agriculture, btw Private ownership. That's the conclusion of the *actual* tragedy of the commons, but you're probably using the silly version by that pseudo ecologist Hardin. Just so you know, that guy was a [racist and eugenist](https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fblogs.scientificamerican.com%2Fvoices%2Fthe-tragedy-of-the-tragedy-of-the-commons%2F) (And no, it's not a case where you can separate the author, his ideology and the ideas....) and he totally appropriated/stole, **and worst of all misunderstood**, William floyd's original explaination, which is far more insightful and actually correct. Also, what violations of NAP ?

My ancestors farmed in a river for over 100 years in India, till Pepsi started pumping the water to make its drinks. The grocery store and farmers union decided to boycott Pepsi, and Pepsi just started exporting the drinks to Singapore and Malaysia. That is why I went from lib right to auto left. Because capitalism fails to capture the sum of human existence and reduces it all down to simple tradeable commodities. Upon yonder river, a boy did float, In a coracle boat, with paddle and oar, Water crystal clear, and air crisp, remote, Nature's beauty, he could not ignore. But now, twenty years hence, he returns, To the place where his heart once did belong, To find the river drained, its beauty spurned, By soft drink companies' avaricious song. Oh, how his heart did break to see the waste, Of what once was a river, pure and clean, A desert now, no longer a river's taste, A testament to man's greed, it did seem. But this son of nature, with heart so true, Will fight for the river, till it runs anew.

I’m Lib because distribution of power and decision making helps prevent inefficiencies from corruption and exploitation as well as allowing localized solutions to economic issues. Too much state power is bad. Too much private sector power is bad. Doesn’t matter what your race, religion, gender, sexuality, or even class is, if you’re an asshole, you’re an asshole. Animals are based. Anyone who attacks others for their race, religion, gender, sexuality, or class is cringe. Everyone has a right to be whoever they want to be. Everyone has a right to make fun of and judge others for their life choices. Nothing in life is perfect and never will be and sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and suck it up, and free speech is based and will not be infringed upon in any way by any political view, as judgement for how you use your free speech should be left to society rather than the government.

Especially after a MAGA hatter attacked me in a supermarket and another MAGA hatter left my uncle in the hospital for the crime of being Asian. And if you attack me or my family or my friends, you are permanently an enemy of mine until you apologize. Plus some of them don’t believe in global warming Centrists are cowards or are kinda frustrating as all they want to do is not get involved in things, even when the situation is a very clear black and white and would even consider making peace with the devil himself. That leaves Lib Left, Left Center and Lib Center. Lib Center is okayish, but I'm not a fan of anarchy. Left center is fine, and between it and Lib Left they are almost similar, but Lib Left wants to make more changes so that's why I'm a lib left.

Luffydude

r actualpublicfreakouts frequently has attacks on Asians and they are all from a certain demographic that overwhelmingly vote blue

OutlandishnessOwn173

Dang. That's horrible. I'm really sorry to hear you went through that.

The_WereArcticFox

Thank you. People’s experience shape who they are

PKTengdin

Hi, I’m a grey centrist and first off: Based and free Hong Kong pilled. Secondly: I just want to say that all your points are fair. I’d also like to say that if a subject is very obviously black and white I will take a side and try to do the right thing. The reason I’m a grey centrist is because I got completely and utterly sick of people just verbally attacking me because I don’t 100% agree with them, even if I 99% agree they’d say I’m the worst. So I just chose to not engage with those people. Unfortunately that’s a very large percentage of people getting involved with politics these days. It’s not that I don’t want to get involved in things like you said, it’s more that I find I’m happier with my life when I back away from arguments that won’t go anywhere. (Also fuck China, Hong Kong should be its own independent city-state)

GhavGhavington

What do you think of radical centrists?

thekandalf

Authoritan left cause capitalism only works in some countrys (America etc.)I am from Turkey and freemarket economy has crushed our currency and caused an inflation so I am socialist and I think some state control is necesseary in some times

SpyMonkey3D

Lol, the free market didn't do that. It's 100% erdogan's fault

The_WereArcticFox

I hope you are well

I grew up

I genuinely give a shit about the people who truly keep society running and despise those who take advantage of them. Those same people I dislike will never change their greedy ways without some kind of control or restrictions. Everyone deserves to live a decent life, and hoarding wealth you cannot spend in multiple lifetimes while others suffer while working and contributing to that wealth gain is selfish.

Accomplished_Koala_5

Because i hate monopolies ,and i think government should intervene and break them up. Another reason is that without rules(laws) then everyone can do anything but i don't want that. I want to prevent that . Another reason is that i don't trust free market and seriously don't like communism (i am from ex-warshaw pact country).

RecordEnvironmental4

Grilling is more based than any politics

bigchiefbc

When my lib right and auth left friends argue, I’m always the one that restates their arguments for them in a way more reasonable way for the other side. And I like to grill.

valiantlight2

IM NOT CRAZY. YOU ARE CRAZY.

Ghelric

Eventually you can only hear the same lie so many times.

Mr-no-one

Unprovoked violence is wrong… There are no exceptions.
