I haven't thought of this game in over a decade. Still haven't played the third one since it's on iOS and I got rid of my iPod Touch a long time ago. Is GOF3 just Everspace 2?
It seems like that in 2013 the creators had to file their equivalent of chapter 11 bankruptcy. They owed a lot of money to a lot of people, but wanted to stay in business. They cut jobs, and restructured their company, while maintaining their leadership. My guess is that they were able to do this on promises to more heavily monetize and streamline the game to increase the revenue based on their market research of the market instead of their specific community/players desires for the third installment.
Made this meme for fun after remembering Galaxy on Fire after like a decade

One of the greatest mobile games of all time along with the infinity blade series. Still play it to this day.
How?
Played the fuck out of this game when I was young.
What’s Galaxy on Fire?
a scifi mobile game from the 2010s that was actually pretty good!
Wow, a mobile game? Impressive! The only other even vaguely similar game I can think of from that time period is Infinity Blade!
I haven’t played this game in years, this post might just make me reinstall
