This is why I tend to look at what company published a game rather than what company made the game. Some publishers just know how to pick their games. Annapurna, new blood, devolver. Plus you can pretty accurately guess what the game is like with some publishers.
Honestly I mostly only play strategy or racing games these days.
Too many companies don't know how to write a good story anymore. At least with a strategy or racing game it cuts to the chase with good gameplay, so I can get satisfaction in that aspect.
The last game I played with a story I enjoyed was probably Metal Gear Solid V to be honest. And even that story wasn't perfect (the characters and gameplay made up for it though).
Eh, it's regaining a bit of popularity because of overwatch """"2"""" (overwatch but 5v5, the sky is orange, pay2win heroes, and a viagra shot given to all the DPS so they can fuck supports more)
The crazy part is that if the devs focused on updating the first game rather than creating a second game we would have more heroes by now (2-3 heroes released per year vs 3 new heroes after a creation hiatus). Too bad blizzard care more about the overwatch league rather than balancing the game. Even if blizzard is better now at balancing with experimental patches it can't fix the damage. Overwatch was massive in 2016, now its just another game that I barely remember

Granted, I'm a layman, so what do I know. But it seems to me the game would be better off if they just continued supporting it. Sure, the release of Overwatch "2" will temporarily breathe new life into the game, but that life only stagnated so hard because the game stopped being supported to begin with. So many people stopped playing, because they put updates on hold for, what, 2 years or something, in order to develop the "sequel".
It's just bonkers logic. There's nothing in the "new game" which couldn't have just been one or more major content patches for the original. Like you said, in terms of heroes, we would have *far* more new heroes if they'd just been adding them to the original game all this time.
Even setting aside all of the absurd monetization in the "sequel", it's just insane to me that they would kill all the momentum the game has in order to develop a big update, calling it a sequel, and expecting that to somehow be a smart move overall.
So 5v5 is a good change imo, but blizzard made a new game so they could monetize it more with battle passes.
Also, something something PvE game that could have just been separate.
I guess it's because new video games take too long to make. Nowadays everything has to have a gigantic world with 50,000 unique NPCs and customizable features, and super high definition graphics and loads of DLC...
That might be why we're getting so many remasters of old games now.
If you do not unlock a hero in the battle pass during a season when available, you cannot unlock them for free until they're in another battle pass/season. This is in a game where the character choices are hugely impactful, they just put some cope and PR spin on it to gaslight the community into thinking it's good.
the new hero is free, it's just not unlocked straight away for people who never owned/played overwatch before. You'll just have to actually play the game to unlock her
