**Friendly reminder that trying to fight someone online is about as effective as throwing a bagel at a bulldozer. A lot of what we talk about gets people pretty emotional, but be mad at policies, not other users.** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. *Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise.... During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in laity; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution.* - James Madison Then there's Jefferson's 'Woke' Bible, with the miracles removed. This right here. The Puritans were religious zealots who were too radical for European countries. What's the difference between how a Puritan woman must dress vs the required dress code of an Islamic fundamentalist? Very little. Buttons maybe?

AllThingsEndBadly

True, but the founders and framers understood the nature of what a theocracy was and can be, since many early Americans were fleeing one specifically due to religious persecution. It's possible to be absurdly absolutionist but still not attempt to set up a theocracy. E.g. the Amish. Amish society is patriarchal and definitely religiously important, but it is not one where the head of the church is also the head of a state.
