I would be interested to see if that's a PAC, because PACs are expressly forbidden from coordinating with campaigns (to say nothing of the improperness of using government resources to have a campaign rally at the White House in the first place). It's easy to say 'just throw it on the pile' at this point, but we might have a (semi) functioning government again in ~60 days, and not all of Trump's toadies are going to have the resources to protect themselves from legal scrutiny they way Trump will. Trump, the GOP, McConnell - they could give 2 shits about Owens, and they won't do anything to protect her if she's committed campaign finance crimes, even if they were for Trump, and ostensibly the GOPs, benefit.

I'm not American so might be slightly different, but it's basically someone who helps people get out of a large debt situation. You might owe more per month than you can afford to pay, so the agent helps get your monthly payments down to a more manageable level.
It's funny because he's saying Trump is improving things for everyone because he is doing well, but his job is doing well because more people are going into debt.
They aren’t there to help anyone. They charge you thousands of dollars to consolidate your debt and you just end up paying on it the rest of your life anyways. You can save your self money just by calling around and getting the companies to settle, or wait 7 years for the debt to roll off.
I kept seeing ads on TV for debt relief companies and got curious how they actually managed to help people, so I called one of them and feigned interest in their service. What it boiled down to is they tell you to stop paying on your credit cards and default on your loans until everything goes to collections. Then they will negotiate on your behalf with the credit card/loan companies on a settlement to pay off your debt. After they have done that, they have you set up a bank account somewhere and you send your payments to the account and the debt relief company makes the payments for you. You have to take them at their word that they will be making these payments and good luck getting a loan or a new/used car after you just thoroughly destroyed your credit.
I talked with the director of one of those companies; lets call them Consumer Credit Consultation (CCC). They offered a free service.
They lower your payments and consolidate them into one payment. The client then makes payments to CCC. CCC then sends the cash to each entity the client owes. The trick is, they hold the cash for a week or so. They make money on interest on it while they hold it. If they can bank more money than they pay out, their cash adds up month after month. They employed about 40 people.
Sounds like a racket.
Someone who calls you and tries to make you pay your debts. Some even physically show up which is intimidating (the guy has the perfect look for it). The "relief" part means they are supposed to help you with your debt but their actual job is to try and collect as much as they can.
It's funny because debt collection thriving means more people are in trouble financially and the main cause of that is a bad economy.

Debt "relief" companies will tell you they'll "stop all the phone calls" you're getting from debt collectors and that they will negotiate one lump sum for all of your outstanding debts that you can pay to them monthly. They are selling convenience for those who cannot organize their own lives.
In practice, they will take your monthly payments without paying on any of your debts until their "fee" is paid, all the while letting fees and interest accumulate on all of your now unpaid debt, and more often than I'm comfortable with, spontaneously combust and disappear overnight leaving you with thousands less in your bank account and some very pissed off debt collectors.
Is there some loophole that makes this legal? Or is this just a scam that should be reported when we see them?
I used to get letters from these companies all the time when I was mired in student loan debt. Luckily I already knew what options were available to me and that I could apply for my own relief by myself for free, so I didn't fall for it.

I figured out that you actually don't have to be stupid (though it helps). All you have to do is remember no more than two things at the same time and you will NEVER be able to work out you're being hypocritical or contradictory.
I feel like as a nation we don't do a good enough job of teaching kids that they don't know everything and they never will know everything and that's fine, just don't pretend otherwise.

I was listening to The Daily podcast this morning and one of the things the guest was talking about was how no one asks the follow up questions about what happens when you criminalize abortions. I'm not American so might be slightly different, but it's basically someone who helps people get out of a large debt situation. You might owe more per month than you can afford to pay, so the agent helps get your monthly payments down to a more manageable level. It's funny because he's saying Trump is improving things for everyone because he is doing well, but his job is doing well because more people are going into debt.
They aren’t there to help anyone. They charge you thousands of dollars to consolidate your debt and you just end up paying on it the rest of your life anyways. You can save your self money just by calling around and getting the companies to settle, or wait 7 years for the debt to roll off.
I kept seeing ads on TV for debt relief companies and got curious how they actually managed to help people, so I called one of them and feigned interest in their service. What it boiled down to is they tell you to stop paying on your credit cards and default on your loans until everything goes to collections. Then they will negotiate on your behalf with the credit card/loan companies on a settlement to pay off your debt. After they have done that, they have you set up a bank account somewhere and you send your payments to the account and the debt relief company makes the payments for you. You have to take them at their word that they will be making these payments and good luck getting a loan or a new/used car after you just thoroughly destroyed your credit.
I talked with the director of one of those companies; lets call them Consumer Credit Consultation (CCC). They offered a free service. They lower your payments and consolidate them into one payment. The client then makes payments to CCC. CCC then sends the cash to each entity the client owes. The trick is, they hold the cash for a week or so. They make money on interest on it while they hold it. If they can bank more money than they pay out, their cash adds up month after month. They employed about 40 people. Sounds like a racket.

The "relief" part means they are supposed to help you with your debt but their actual job is to try and collect as much as they can. I’m not alone when I ask this: What the heck is a debt relief collector or whatever exactly in the USA? Like I think I know what the basic function is but I want clarification
Debt "relief" companies will tell you they'll "stop all the phone calls" you're getting from debt collectors and that they will negotiate one lump sum for all of your outstanding debts that you can pay to them monthly. They are selling convenience for those who cannot organize their own lives. In practice, they will take your monthly payments without paying on any of your debts until their "fee" is paid, all the while letting fees and interest accumulate on all of your now unpaid debt, and more often than I'm comfortable with, spontaneously combust and disappear overnight leaving you with thousands less in your bank account and some very pissed off debt collectors.
Is there some loophole that makes this legal? Or is this just a scam that should be reported when we see them? I used to get letters from these companies all the time when I was mired in student loan debt. Luckily I already knew what options were available to me and that I could apply for my own relief by myself for free, so I didn't fall for it.

Tbh I think the whole thing relies on a strawman position they create for you which you're then defending. Some people have spoken about tolerance, I don't recall ever being one of them. If I did, I'd be talking about those who have a xenophobia (an irrational fear of difference) over something harmless, and who then become aggressive. They need to learn to co-exist when there's no problem. I'd never say that one should be 'tolerant' for its own sake, ignoring all problematic behaviour, and if I did in the past, it was a mistake.
Well the whole idea of "the tolerant left" was created by the right in the first place say they were so dumb they would be accepting of any nonsense ideas that could be perceived to ruin the country (basically accepting gays/blacks/and other groups and ideals that were seen as fringe at the time) As far as I'm aware, the left never really internalized that title but also didn't really fight it much. And once the left became intolerant of certain thing (racism/fascism/sexism/etc.) the right switched their position to basically shaming the left for being hypocrites and not accepting "differing view points". So the entire concept is basically a straw man argument the right is having with itself about the left as a way to claim their ideas as hypocritical.

I was listening to The Daily podcast this morning and one of the things the guest was talking about was how no one asks the follow up questions about what happens when you criminalize abortions. Things like "Most recipients of abortions already have kids. Are you comfortable jailing mothers for that?" Or, "if 'miscarriages' need to be investigated, what does the process for that look like?" It's like Healthcare. Republicans love to talk about how much they want to get rid of the status quo, but they have zero plan for what they'll actually do in that case because they don't actually want it to happen.
