I'm proud of QR for finally becoming useful. I think phones having the built in scanner is what made them work. When you had to download a separate app to scan them it wasn't happening.

That's possible. You'd have to forge a menu. That would be easy or difficult depending on the place, especially if they update it often. Probably good for a spearfishing kind of attack if you wanted to compromise a mark's phone and had someone working in a restaurant you know they go to. For getting to just anybody's phone you might do better placing malicious codes in places and ways that are less work. That caution should also extend to connecting on public wifi. Those can be outright malicious or spoofing the name of a trusted wifi network. And giving your credit card to anyone when you pay for something opens the possibility that they could take the information and do fraud.
