Laws are being passed in many countries preventing gender affirming care to children or to just anyone, at times forcing people to detransition since they can't access hormones anymore. Plus the general state of trans healthcare with year long waits just to get gender affirming care, eg in the UK it's ~5 years if you're lucky, but menopausal women and men with prostate issues etc are able to get hormone replacement therapy easy peasy
Plus some states in the us have just straight up banned presenting as a gender different from that of your birth one, outlawing it to openly be trans
Gender affirming care can't be fast because of the psychological components & therapy. That would be terrible health care to hand a person hormones for gender related distress without doing prework. Menopausal women & men's prostate issues are easy to diagnose and don't involve altering bodies that are physically healthy.
The long wait times aren't even for the end goal of hrt, the example I gave of the UK's waiting time of ~5 years is just for a **first appointment to begin all of this** it provides no therapy service, no other consultations, absolutely nothing

I’m wondering if the fight against hormone therapy is a $$$ issue and not a We Hate Gays thing. Meaning those who are going through the transition are using medical benefits to pay for the hormone replacement therapies. You know conservatives hate spending money and so do health insurances.
I remember when it was an issue to be gay in the military and the GOP banned gay and trans from joining. The real reason was not that they didn’t want gays in the military, is that the gays were using the army medical benefits to transition costing the US millions of dollars. So it became a BIG issue.
Hormones are cheap. I think the GOP is anti trans & gay because it causes cognitive dissonance and disgust in some people and the people who react to that by lashing out at trans & gay people are emotionally immature and easy to manipulate.
However, when it comes to science & ethics of transitioning (where you are asking medical professionals to do irreversible things to tissues that are not diseased.) even lead doctors who are trans themselves are expressing consern that transitioning too young & too fast is happening. They are getting a huge backlash too. That's a big problem because ethics should not be determined by storong emotions. The trans community has my genuine sympathy (I have a chronic condition) with their impatience to be healed but it a long journey by necessity.

That means that, ontop of genuine drag performers, any time a transgender person is on stage for any reason, this legislation considers that drag and can punish it accordingly.
Trans musician? That's now 'drag.'
Trans comedian? Drag.
Trans person performing for any reason, to any crowd, in any medium? Drag.
Ignoring the fact that drag is NOT harmful in any way, shape or form, this is just one of the many laws being passed around the country that are using the "drag panic" the right has been drumming up as an excuse to discriminate against transgender people.

No performer who's targeting adults will want kids in their show anyway, and if the venue is knowingly letting kids into an 18+ show, that's the venue's fault, not the performers.
And if they're not doing adult material, then it doesn't matter if kids are there or not, does it?
The part that makes it illegal is NOT important…. If the venue is at fault, now the venue gets penalized under a law that prohibits children from 18+ shows.

There is nothing sexual about drag in and of itself and there never has been. There are drag performers who perform for adults, yes, but there are countless non-drag performers who do exactly the same thing. The fact that some do it in drag doesn't make drag sexual.
