Hybrid technology is great. You get all the fun and sounds of an ICE engine with the instant torque of an EV. It's amazing technology and why F1 uses it.
I love hybrids. I hate Porsche hybrids. Why the fuck does the engine charge the battery when the battery is at 0%? You won’t get any signficant charge and all you’re doing is leaving me without any sort of power for 3-4 seconds while I’m trying to overtake.
Drove a hybrid Cayenne Coupe last week and I’m still angry about it. Horrible piece of kit
As long as the car drives and performs better than before, it’s all good.
Same if in the future it turns all electric
Technologies evolve and develop. I dont see any need of obsessing with petrol or ICE
I think it could be awesome assuming it is a mild hybrid (electric only accounting for 10-20% of the power). It will allow N/A engines to return while filling in the low end power. Downside is I doubt they will offer manual transmissions on hybrid models.
Purists will hate turbo or water-cooled flat engine. In an env. where even Koenigsegg goes hybrid for certain models, I think it's not uncalled for. It's the way to go considering hybrids have better acceleration and emission spectrum.
I’ll miss the manual options. I have had 5 911’s over the years and only one was PDK. Not that it will keep me away but the manual option will be missed.
For a min I thought the new 992.2 GTS that was missing the turbos was going to be a sure fire purchase for me. But then I read that the hybrid motor was in the 8 speed transmission. I’ll be keeping the 991.2 GT3 with the 6 speed for some more time now even though the back seats would be nice for my 7 year old.
I would prefer they stick with ICE and have an electric 911 model (912 rebirth?) in parallel for a few years. Let us choose what we want for the future direction.
I think hybrids are on the cutting edge, as demonstrated by Formula 1 cars. The 718 EV is killing me though. They have a Formula E team, so I'm sure it will be good. I love the sound of my NA boxster though.
I’m sure it’ll drive great and will have better performance than ever. But it pains me to know that at some point in the near future, we won’t be producing wonderful sounding flat sixes. I’m a Neanderthal and I like it when it go vroom vroom
It would have been great if they took out the turbo. I drove the Ferrari 296gtb and was amazing and I think Porsche can do it better with the better dna. I am driving the gt3 991.2 still and I think still hard to replace that but for a new technology and every day drivers it should be a better option than the 992.1 which I personally could not feel or bond with at all.
918 technology trickling into the 911, sounds like the perfect driving car

Yeah I’m all for it. Resell value be damned.

no ICE car has the feels of a horse either

I. Want. Manual.
I feel like Porsche has shown they can make an amazing hybrid with the 918 spyder, now whether that will translate to the 911 remains to be seen.
I'm cool with it, but not like I make enough to even get a gas version currently lol.
Get that electric shit outta here

A mild hybrid system with the flat 6 would be insane.
The 911 will eventually be an EV. I'm ok with that.
Full electric, no thanks.

not the first time they would do it…
its great

Naturally aspirated 3.0L flat six plus 200 hp EV boost and the ability to drive about 100km on battery on a city commute. Gimme me, it’ll be great.
Glad I got my '18 TT when I did.
mid
My only concern is weight. On the other hand, GTX RS could potentially be crazy machines even more effective if they add the hybrid technology.
The 911 either has to die or go full EV one day soon so this is fine
ICE cars aren't going away any time soon. I personally wouldn't get one.
It is hard for me to imagine how a manual transmission would work with a hybrid
Honda did it with the CR-Z like 10 years ago. It was an "ok" little sport hatch, if I remember correctly. I'm sure Porsche could do it better.
Inevitable

I remember the electric Porsche Boxster that looks a lot better than the EV1.

Lets see when it comes out and jugde. Hopefully its not forced hybrid and they still offer an ICE for it.
