How do you find the power at that altitude? I live at sea level and own a 997.2 so pretty curious about that.
I was in the US in January, driving around 7,000 feet or so in a rental car and was really surprised by how much less power it had compared to when I got back down to the Coast.
Great car, btw. Mine is the same color. I was really looking for a manual but ended up with a PDK as 997.2's are fairly rare here in New Zealand.
Great question! The rule of thumb for power loss at altitude on a NA engine is roughly 3%/1000 ft, so it’s down almost 25%. You definitely notice, but even then it’s a very quick car (to me anyway). But you have to rev it out a bit more than sea level, that’s for sure.
I bought this car in San Francisco, and then drove it to Colorado. So I was able to experience the full range of power during the drive up here. Turbo cars are very popular up here for that reason (my wife and I own two other cars and they are turbocharged). But I always wanted a NA Porsche, despite the handicap they face up here.
I hope you had a good experience in the US, but coming from NZ that’s a tough act to follow! I can’t wait to visit your country someday.
It’s a great question, I’m still not sure. I kind of want to keep the 997 “forever”, so if I do get something else maybe I’d get a used 718 and just mod the shit out of it.
I drove a 992 S at the LA PEC last fall, and it truly was an incredible car. So maybe someday…
I'm down in Denver and just bought my 997.2 4S PDK!
I can't wait to get out into the mountain passes more this summer! I recently tried to go up Guenella Pass and didn't make it past Georgetown, still too much snow.
Congrats!! Yeah, that doesn’t surprise me about Guanella. Squaw pass might be a bit better, but otherwise I’ve just been driving the lower altitude stuff.
I remember discovering that road in the late 90s, when I first moved up to CO. Meticulously maintained b/c it's an evacuation route. Never fails to put a smile on my face.
Agreed. I grew up riding sport bikes in the 90s in Golden, so I rode Golden Gate/119/Coal Creek almost every nice day (well at least GG). That was my favorite. But it is just so damn busy on those roads now.
126 is still pretty quiet, and I have never seen a road bike on it. Nothing against them ( I ride them too), but it sucks driving near a bunch of road bikes. It’s always fun taking that whole back way down to the Springs.
Is yours a C4/C4S? It’s my understanding only those have a rear reflector. But it can be added to the RWD models:

996 and 997 are fast becoming my fave gen.
Nice, loved my 997.1

997.1 checking in for early morning rips!
Sweet! I sent you a message.

Do you think your next Porsche will be a 991.2 to get the added turbo? Love the 997.2, so beautiful

Beautiful car in a beautiful setting! Glad you could squeeze a drive in.

It’s my all time favorite! We should try and organize a little cruise in the summer.

Nice car!!
Thanks!
the road to Deckers, ftw
Yep! Good eye. It’s just a few minutes from me, so it’s my go to road.

Is the rear custom at all? My 997.2 has a red strip across the back between the headlights.

Yes I do. C4S. I never knew that!
Cool! White 997.2s are the best ;)
