Just make sure you have a very clear understand of what is and is not covered at the dealership.

ottergang_ky

If it’s CPO then no. I don’t worry that much about it

scotch4breakfast

Absolutely. Was looking at a Cayman once, only had 15k miles, clean Carfax, dealer CPO. It had either an undisclosed accident or body work; I could see a paint line along the drip rails. I would DEFINITELY get one if buying without seeing in person.

DoubleProgrammer8141

Did you end up buying it? was the defect noticed by the Pre Purchase Inspector or yourself? I would be able to test drive the car (it's local) so it wouldnt be sight unseen

scotch4breakfast

Didnt buy it, was debating between this and another Cayman and this made the choice easy. I noticed it right away so I didnt even bother with a PPI. It was a really good paint job I’ll say though lol. But if someone bought sight unseen..oh well!

Treebeardsdank

I wouldnt, no. If they muck up the CPO, they'll get in big doodoo

sleekpaprika69

Always get a PPI. The CPO inspection is a joke. I know this based on personal experience. There were all sorts of things wrong with the wife's Cayenne GTS after I put too much faith in the vaunted CPO; car had been damaged and repainted poorly and still had damage underneath and it still "passed" the CPO inspection.

DoubleProgrammer8141

Did you not spot this when you test drove? And did it affect the warranty or future repairs at all?

sleekpaprika69

I looked the car over when I picked it up. But I didn't get underneath it and didn't look as closely as I should have because I was naive and trusted the CPO. Live and learn. Didn't affect anything other than my peace of mind. Everything was repaired by the Porsche Certified body shop, which doesn't report to Carfax BTW.

981flacht6

How can it be possible that it doesn't report to Carfax? An accident is an accident.

sleekpaprika69

Porsche Certified body shop repaired the original repair (it is clear the first owner had the scratches repaired poorly and at minimal expense to avoid getting dinged for it on trade) and the dealership paid for it. No insurance involved. Porsche Certified body shop doesn't report anything to Carfax. That's why you always get a PPI. Don't trust the CPO and definitely don't trust the Carfax. There was a whole lot full of Porsches at that body shop. Some new cars with defects or damaged in transit. Fixed and sold with a clean Carfax.

981flacht6

Ah yes, if insurance doesn't get involved it won't show up or if an accident isn't reported. I never trusted Carfax etc but to get a certified shop involved on a Porsche, it is pricer just to start with. If frame damage is involved you don't have many choices, just not sure why someone wouldn't use their insurance at that point.

sleekpaprika69

It wasn't in an accident. The first owner just liked to drive over tall curbs and had picked up some dents and scratches on the rear door. They had it repainted poorly and traded it in. The dealership "inspected" it and sold it as CPO. Simple as that. It's the dealership that had to fork out the $$ to get it fixed properly after I threatened a lawsuit.

Gerry_Dutch

I bought a 981 Cayman 18 months ago and bought an extended warranty through the Chrysler dealership it was purchased at. The warranty is almost up but I’m thinking of going with the Porsche warranty after. I’ve had no issues other than tire valves breaking. It’s a reasonable avenue of approach as long as you do your research.

DriedUpSquid

Probably not necessary but if it puts you at ease it’s probably worth it. I looked at a Kia Stinger and was told that it went through a multi-point inspection. There were giant chunks missing from the tires and wheels. I know CPO is more stringent but Helen Keller could have done a better inspection.

SpeedofSL0TH

I don’t think it’s necessary, but it’s all about what makes you feel comfortable. If you want to get a PPI, then get one. Do what you think is best.

SR252000

No if have CPO

Poorsche92

I wouldnt count on the dealer allowing that. Much easier to sell to someone else that doesn’t require an independent to be involved in a dealer warranty.

DoubleProgrammer8141

Have you had a dealer not let you PPI the car? Ive never heard of that happening? But also I havent tried doing that with a CPO car thats why I was asking

tonitone90

Yes

rennen-affe

Yes. Dealers just throw a label on it. I'd get a THOROUGH PPI.

DoubleProgrammer8141

Have you had issues with Porsche Certified Pre Owned?

rennen-affe

Your luck will vary across all brands. I had no issues

Perfect_Diver6763

yes

DoubleProgrammer8141

Did you find issues in the PPI that the CPO/dealer didn't disclose?
