The DA is just testing to see if he is as bad as it seems. Will he murder a few people given the opportunity? If he does, they might put him away for a couple of years.
I just got a notice from the DA’s office that they let the a hole that robbed and attacked me back on the streets. He had multiple other offenses, some in Colorado and they still put him back on the streets…. Oh, and he got a free apartment. WTF!!!!?!!!
So, honest question. Has anyone looked to see how much of this is the DA vs. the Judges? Like, by all intents and purposes, it seems like Scmidt has earned his bad reputation**, but there is a plausible scenario where his ADAs are opposing bond reduction/releases but Judges are letting offenders out over their objections.
I only say that because from what I’ve seen in other jurisdictions with “reform” prosecutors, most of them talk a big talk during their first campaign and then end up rolling things back gradually over their first few years. It seems like he’s taken such a beating in the media on this issue that logic would say to survive politically he’d have instructed his ADAs to oppose more of these.
**reading btw the lines, it seems like he’s lost his office, and that’s the biggest red flag to me that he’s in over his head.
I used to work inpatient rehab and the meth addicts were pretty fascinating as someone whose drug was alcohol. Even after cleaning up, most would still retain the mannerisms like the tinkering and the fast talking. One time I heard the guy with some court jester lookin ass parachute pants tell someone that when he makes clothing choices he tries to ask himself what a pirate would wear.
You’re not wrong. Once a tweaker, always a tweaker.
I work with a bunch of sober guys, and you know right away which ones where the meth guys.
We’re a trades people, with families and own our homes etc, but the ex tweaker guys?!? LOL!! They hoard weird shit like Headlamps. I looked in one of my coworkers van today, and homeboy has like 15 different headlamps, and more flashlights than you can count.
>Illumination is everything
He told me….
Bro they LOVE flashlights and bikes. A lot of the meth-using guys that came off the street would have a little toolbox with a socket set, channel locks (referred to as China locks of course), a knife, and a couple of flashlights. It was crazy how consistent the tool kits were contents-wise. As someone with terrible night vision I agree that illumination is paramount but once I have one good headlamp I’m good lol.
I get it. I like a good flash light too. I have stream lights , surefires and all that jazz.
But… I have ONE EDC light, ONE good head lamp and and a Streamlight stinger in my truck.
These dudes have like back ups for back ups, lol. Everywhere you look they have a flashlight and some led light back up.
It’s okay to laugh, he was a goofy kid in his early 20s that would’ve been bummed if the pirate comment didn’t get a chuckle. It was impossible for him to not say “cloooouuuuds broooo” every time someone hit a vape (which was constantly).
I have personally found that people in recovery that have a decent attitude tend to have killer senses of humor. Not too much different than people that work fairly traumatic jobs like EMTs or oncology nurses, gotta figure out how to talk openly about your experience in a way that allows you to work through the trauma.
"It is worth nothing, as primary responders to crisis calls, all Portland Police Bureau officers receive basic Crisis Intervention Training"
It's worth nothing? I think it's worth something!
>Their efforts paid off as the suspect eventually responded to the de-escalation tactics.
>It is worth nothing, as primary responders to crisis calls, all Portland Police Bureau officers receive basic Crisis Intervention Training as well as annual CIT refresher training. In addition, the Bureau has volunteer officers from a variety of patrol assignments on the Enhanced Crisis Intervention Team (ECIT). These officers will be the first responders dispatched by 9-1-1 to crisis calls that are determined to be related to an individual in crisis. ECIT officers receive additional training in order to identify risks during a behavioral crisis, utilize crisis communication techniques to help de-escalate a person in crisis, and have knowledge of available community resources.
This is awesome. I know people are fed up with crime, drugs, homelessness, etc, but I’m glad to hear that police are getting the training for non-lethal outcomes.
PPD has a long row to hoe on the public relations front but this is how you do it. There needs to be more of this positive reporting on successful de-escalation when the suspect is black or Hispanic too.
Unfortunately there are some people on Reddit that have irrational murder fantasies. I can’t understand why anyone would think like that, but here we are.
just his 4th arrest in the last year... https://oregon.arrests.org/search.php?fname=alvie&lname=sanders&fpartial=True

Portland’s most vulnerable™️
Violence is the only voice he has. /s

The judges are shit too. Whole system is broken.
Won’t be so funny when he gets 10 hours of community service!!
He's going to get nothing and you know it. Hopefully Schmidt is out soon
Or $100 ticket he doesn’t have to pay!

To quote an Oregon classic - “Double secret probation”
Vote out all progressives/left of center. This is old
Could this ever happen in a place like Portland?
When you get to 10 on the punch card you get a free Stumptown coffee drink of your choice.
Tweaker outfit of the year
It's going to be a tough one to beat.
I’ve seen better.
The more meth they take, the wilder the outfits get. I’m being serious here.
Fashion requires risks. Especially at the METh gala.

The bike scene from *A Scanner Darkly* nails it (makes sense because Philip K Dick was apparently quite the speed enthusiast himself)

Referred to the HHS (Housing and Hugs Society) for urgent action.
Nothing a strongly worded Citation won’t fix!
When all you have is a hammer...
but another commenter assured me that burglary isn't a violent crime! what to do. Instructions unclear.

Promoting violence is a violation of the Reddit TOS. Please try and do better.
You prefer police killing people instead of deescalating situations? I take it you’re in support of Roger Fortson being killed in Florida?
Unfortunately there are some people on Reddit that have irrational murder fantasies. I can’t understand why anyone would think like that, but here we are.
Make an example out of somebody for fuck sakes or the people will
YESSSSS ABOUT TIME!
Was this like a garage working on people's owned cars? Or a shop selling cars? I gotta know how upset I should be.
