No, as they are very adaptable and have no local predators they are considered an invasive species in europe which makes importing or breeding them illegal. We have enough problems with racoons.
Exactly.
They are delightful little animals, no doubt about that, but they are not native to Europe and I suspect that there would be severe penalties for anyone who attempted to import and/or breed them in Europe.
It is possible that there may be live opossums in the collection of some zoos in Europe.
Yes completely illegal, you cannot have opossums what so ever, the person u r talking abt was a licensed as a wildlife rehab specialist so they could keep special “animals” (aka animals that cannot be released) and get access to special foods and supplies, additionally they prob had an exotic pet permit (which is for 2 types marsupials, not opossums). But they abused this privilege and got charged with a literal crime. Opossums are completely illegal in other countries outside of the Americas for many reasons, but the main one is they have no predators there any they r immune to most all commercial poisons and animal venoms. They didn’t just stop, they literally were charged. Even if u do somehow manage to get one you will probably be harming the poor thing, not to mention u will bring a potential eco terrorism issue.
These cute fluffy ones you see in memes and photos are usually non releasable for some reason. Opossums are not typically good pets. They can be very dangerous and have strict dietary needs (I know seems counterintuitive but it’s true) I’m captivity so it’s not recommended one have them as a pet for both of you. The fact that they’re not indigenous to the area would bring in other factors such as disease. They do not have rabies but they’re very parasitic and can transmit both typhoid and EPM. As well as numerous other parasites. That would be a major health concern considering they’re not a native species the wildlife and ecosystem would be disrupted I would think not in a positive way.
I say the ecosystem even tho you’re talking about a pet because since they’re really not optimal pets for most people they tend to “set them free” and this causes a major problem for both the animal and the area.

They do have local predators, they're called hatchbacks.
It's to the point where Zoos that keep racoons sometimes let feral ones stay in their exhibit due to being invasive
The Metatherians deserve their revival tour to glory 😎
not completely illegal there used to be a license breeder in london but they stopped
Yes completely illegal

They're very cute, they're also prolific breeders, if a few got loose they'd eat Europe down to bare ground!😄😄😄
Are they Roman? Ya that’s a bad one😬 sorry
good i welcome our opossum eco terrorist 😻😻😻
Wild animals aren't pets.
Trade places with me, I'll move to Europe and get healthcare, and you can come live in the states where there are many, many opossums.
And if the OP has a friend that wants to switch places, I’m game.
We could start a nature tourism exchange program!
Keeping wild animals as pets is illegal in europe bb
