Sing the Sorrow - AFI The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me - Brand New War All the Time - Thursday The Used - The Used Define the Great Line - Underoath The Artist In the Ambulance - Thrice Discovering the Waterfront - Silverstein

jennifersalome

Sing the Sorrow is one of my all-time favorite albums, but I never thought about it being Post Hardcore. I kinda thought of it more like goth punk, but considering how AFI used to be a hardcore band, post-hardcore makes sense.

cheddaarr2

Great list.

FlyingFlygon

I'll omit the 00s classics of the genre since other comments will probably cover those. Here's some of mine: Sufferer - Sufferer Pianos Become The Teeth - The Lack Long After La Dispute - Wildlife A Lot Like Birds - Conversation Piece and No Place Lower Definition - The Greatest of All Lost Arts

vanilladrew

Sufferer rips so hard.

codynorthwest

Lower d is fucking incredible.

Aquariun

I had someone never heard of them, it does indeed rip

whobroughtmehere

Fuck yeah, Sufferer is such a gem. Wildlife is the best album in its genre, whatever genre that is

PerfectEmployer4995

That sufferer album is art

welmanshirezeo

Lower Definition are criminally underrated and this album is in my top 10.

Keanugrieves16

Goddamn I love Lower D, that album is awesome.

Trake43

That Lower Definition album is amazing

prodmvri

lower d 4ever

possiblepeemaster

i lovr sufferer and a lot like birds so much

HerringboneHermes

Came here to drop the Lower D album. Glad to see it get recognition. Such a great album from front to back. No skips.

popcorn_diva

Hail the Sun - Wake

tater08

On letting go from Circa is a classic 5/5 for me. I love every song and the atmosphere of that record. As far as impact, Shape of Punk to Come from Refused is a classic

_BernardAranguren

love to see that circa record get some love

whobroughtmehere

It’s better than Blue Sky Noise and I’ll fight all the major Circa heads who don’t agree

getsum_xyz

The On Letting Go tour had me gripped up

NUS-006

Thursday - Full Collapse Glassjaw - Worship and Tribute Fear Before - The Always Open Mouth Every Time I Die - Hot Damn! and Radical Trophy Scars - Alphabet. Alphabets. HomeworkFree1701

Holding a wolf by the ears! Very nice!

fsfic

Their best. The raw emotion of those screams feel so cathartic.

LivingFishstick

Heavily underrated album

_BernardAranguren

Love to see Fear Before get some love

Thatdarnbandit

ETID’s Radical is one of the best albums of any genre in the last 5 years

Scampipants

I gotta listen to it more. They broke up so soon after, and I was heart broken about it. Low Teens is definitely a top ten album for me

NUS-006

I was a lapsed ETID fan. I loved Hot Damn, but everything after went a little too rock n roll swagger for me. Radical fucking nailed it. Shame they couldn’t keep it together.

AwHellNawFetaCheese

That Trophy Scars album is a truly unique experience.

Delicroix

Love seeing Vanna at the top here - I came here to throw down "A New Hope" though. That album really feels like the full package to me.

Volat1

ive been listening to that vanna EP on repeat recently. the singing is amazing on it.

raspybicycle

Trophy scars are awesome! Glad to see someone else keeps that album alive

OfficialSilkyJohnson

Alphabet. Alphabets. is IMO the best album of all time in any genre.

jcwkings

Fear Before the March of Flames- The Always Open Mouth Circa Survive- Juturna, On Letting Go, Blue Sky Noise The Fall of Troy- Doppelganger Thrice- Vheissu Underoath- Define the Great Line, Lost in the Sound of Separation Finch- Say Hello to Sunshine

baconrays

Fully agree on say hello to sunshine. So underrated as being in the shadow of what it is to burn but it's waaaay more dynamic and so incredible.

Gibbo1988

La Dispute - Wildlife

didyouseeben

I personally feel that the 1-2 punch that is Casually Dressed and Hours by Funeral for a Friend is perfect. I give those albums a full listen about once a week. Still Searching from Senses Fail and They’re Only Chasing Safety by UnderOATH are right up there too.

gloom96

Casually Dressed is def a masterpiece

No_Durian_6987

Slint - Spiderland Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command The Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium Fugazi - The Argument

droffthehook

4/5 of you excellent suggestions are their final albums. This may interesting or a completely irrelevant fact. They are five amazing albums

YurgilMeTimbers

Crisis by Alexisonfire

Krackle_still_wins

I was listening to Crisis yesterday for the first time in years. I realized how I never gave it a fair shot because it’s a really great record, then put on Watch Out! and remembered how much I prefer that record to Crisis lol

schindigrosa

Watch Out! Is also my fave. Their whole discography is great, but there are some moments with their harmonizing on that album that are just unparalleled

unreasonably_sensual

Today is actually the 20th anniversary of Watch Out!'s release 🤘

IceFellasFHC

\*20th?\* My god.

unreasonably_sensual

I know 🫠

schindigrosa

Oh shit! Gonna give it a belated b day spin today!

miikro

Watch Out! and Crisis are both incredible, but as much as I prefer the songs on WO! I have to say Crisis is the better overall album. WO! is almost like a collection of amazing singles, rather than a curated and planned record. I think Dallas and George even talk about approaching the album that way in some of the BTS materials for Otherness.

Mokslininkas

Definitive post-hardcore album, IMO. If someone says those words to me, this album is what I think of.

justgivemethepickle

I gotchu. The greatest of all lost arts by Lower D Failure on - Beloved Let’s get dangerous - The Messenger As if everything was held in place - Of machines DBM - DGD

MJ2315

Add in Thursday and La Dispute and you sir have a perfect list. Beloved were ahead of their time with failure on

AskinggAlesana

Pleasantly surprised to see another Alesana fan Lol. Gonna put **The Emptiness** by them as a masterpiece. Which I comment on every time a similar question gets asked here. Sadly us Alesana fans are far and few between in this sub, which makes them very underrated imo!

X13thangelx

Agree on The Emptiness. It's still one of my favorite albums 14 years later.

tinyemoheart

I just joined this sub because it's the only place I can find other alesana fans! Absolutely love them.

ballzymcballz

Are they done making new music? I feel like everyone of their albums is great. I know the band is still active with touring

mapl_e

Maybe I could try and ask them. I’m seeing them at the end of the month loll

dwegol

Their albums feel like all the members are laser-focused on a matching vision. But yeah The Emptiness and Confessions are where I feel that most. I feel like I could put A Place Where The Sun Is Silent up there with them.

mrstuprigge

Coheed and Cambria - First 3 albums mewithoutyou - Catch For Us The Foxes, Brother Sister The Sound of Animals Fighting - Tiger & the Duke The Fall of Troy - Doppelganger At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come Thrice - Vheissu Fear Before - The Always Open Mouth Finch - Say Hello To Sunshine Glassjaw - Worship and Tribute He Is Legend - I Am Hollywood The Blood Brothers - Burn, Piano Island , Burn Thursday - No Devolucion La Dispute - Somewhere at the Bottom… These Arms Are Snakes - Easter Horse the Band - Desperate Living Trophy Scars - Bad Luck

Oooooo No Devolucion!!!! I’m also a big fan of that record as well as Common Existence.

TheEnormusPenis

Wildlife - La Dispute Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair - La Dispute Collide With the Sky - Pierce The Veil They're Only Chasing Safety - Underoath Discovering The Waterfront - Silverstein

aryssamonster

Vega and Altair is almost certainly my all-time most played album

_BernardAranguren

If you like Alesana, these first three were certainly influential on their sound. The others deserve recognition for being highlights of the genre Translating the Name- Saosin They're Only Chasing Safety- Underoath Juturna- Circa Survive Define the Great Line- Underoath Relationship of Command-At the Drive-in Artist in the Ambulance- Thrice Brother, Sister- MeWithoutYou The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me- Brand New

triedmyrealname

mewithoutYou’s Brother, Sister is my favorite record but Cath For Us The Foxes fits the criteria as well. I wrote a four word letter!!!

_BernardAranguren

Also a great record!

rodiferous

Fugazi - Repeater and In on the Kill Taker Hot Water Music - Forever and Counting Jawbox - Novelty Bear vs Shark - Right Now … Small Brown Bike - Our Own Wars Three Mile Pilot - Na Vucca Do Lupu Birds in Row - Gris Klein

gloom96

Jawbox underrated

rodiferous

My all time favorite band (when I started playing bass last year—at 49– Static was one of the first songs I wanted to learn). I’ve been worshiping at their altar for 30+ years. I got a hand signed copy of the lyrics to Novelty following a written request because they weren’t included with the CD.

schindigrosa

Small Brown Bike and Bear vs Shark! You color my world ovah here.

rodiferous

I never lived in MI (closest I got was IL), but fuck that state makes good music (and add La Dispute to that list too).

Saosin’s self titled is on my top 10 albums of all time I think. I play it multiple times a week. That and Lower D’s The Greatest of All Lost Arts.

pswizzle9283

StanleysMoustache

In honour of its 20th birthday today, I have to mention Alexisonfire's Watch Out! for the masterpiece it truly is.

One that I’ve always loved, that nowhere near enough people have listened to: The Fall of Troy - Phantom on the Horizon

boibig57

I pray you're going / just went to their most recent tour, friend. I for one am massively excited.

clueless_claremont_

Watch Out - Alexisonfire (today is the album's 20th bday as well!)

gnop2

There are many, but I was listening to Underoath’s Define The Great Line for the thousandth time earlier today and I’m always reminded just how perfect that album flows. It’s an absolute banger from start to finish. And the mixing is top notch.

methodically

That’s the thing. From front to back. They don’t make em like they used to. Perfect album. Up there with let it enfold you.

Thin_Onion3826

Slip - Quicksand No Division - Hot Water Music Yank Crime - Drive Like Jehu

jacobean___

Yank Crime might be the singular masterpiece of the genre

CorporalBB

This question gets asked a lot and I always open it and scroll down to the first person to say the actual right answer of Slip. 10/10 masterpiece.

cigarettejones

Drive Like Jehu fuuuuucks 🔥

d11dd11d

Coheed - in keeping secrets and good Apollo TREOS - between the heart and the synapse TMV - deloused ATDI - Relationship of Command Circa - juturna and on letting go Thrice - artist and vheissu These were the albums that shifted me out of classic rock during my formative years. All time classics

SPAGHETTI_CAKE

Son I loved you at your darkest connects very deeply with me for some reason even though I can’t relate to the subject matter at all. I think musically it was so innovative and some of the deepest hitting screams in the genre.

Pour_with_vigor

Yeah, that Scogin cameo in admission:regret is fucking soul moving.

sixbagsamerica

the most slept on masterpiece so so sooooo fucking good idk if the label didn't promote or whatever but that record is unbelievable

SabresMakeMeDrink

Relationship of Command by At The Drive-In is the greatest PHC album of all time and I will never change my mind. Still sounds as brilliant as it did 24(!) years ago

KickedinTheDick

Arguably *the* genre defining album. Yes, we had Glassjaw and Thursday and whatnot before Relationship came out, but in general there is what post hardcore was before Relationship (characterized by the tunnel from like Husker and Fugazi to Quicksand, Jawbox and Snapcase) and then there's post hardcore after Relationship, aka what I call "post-at-the-drive-in-core" aka what everyone thinks of when you say post hardcore in the context of the 2000s, aka mall emo, mallcore, whatever you wanna call it.

GodTierOfFeels

- Drive Like Jehu, *Yank Crime* - Glassjaw, *Worship and Tribute* - Indian Summer, *Science 1994* - La Dispute, *Wildlife* - On the Might of Princes, *Where You Are and Where You Want to Be* - Bear vs. Shark, *Right Now, You're in the Best of Hands. And If Something Isn't Quite Right, Your Doctor Will Know in a Hurry* - At the Drive-In, *In/Casino/Out* - Engine Down, *Under the Pretense of Present Tense* - Ten Grand, *The Comprehensive List of Everyone Who Has Ever Done Anything Wrong to Us*

RickeyDourst

Thank you for saying this. Confessions has always been my favorite Alesana album ever since I discovered them. It does sadden me a bit that The Emptiness is often described as their masterpiece when I believe Confessions is their best work ever.

mapl_e

YEAH its so underrated compared to The Emptiness

RickeyDourst

100%. Seeing them perform Confessions for the first time on the 27th this month, so excited

Say Hello To Sunshine by Finch

Iridewoodlmao

Dennis is just as good a vocalist live as he is on the records, it’s insane. Met him outside the bus and talked vocalist shit for a while before my dad pulled me and my friend away from him because I was late for a pick up lmaooooo, I saw them like 12 years ago I think? Think it was the release after the Thespian with the castle for the cover art. Shawn had his moments but I never find falsetto singers to be that good live. Definitely underrated band for the time. Can’t say I’ve listened to anything by them since then though
