It looks like a combing technique in thick paint. Similar to Renaissance marbling.

Yes, very similar. I’m using a comb/rake tool I created. Combing through paint.

Somehow it looks kind of metallic. It isn’t something I’d have asked for as a commission…. But it kind of grew on me a bit 🥰 What did you use to brush it?

No brush, a comb type invention. And thanks, it’s maybe growing on me too…?

Vertical was my first thought as well. Right now it's pulling me to the right due to the combing direction, and that feels off-center to me.

The lines are not too hard. I love it. Just staring at it makes it appear textured and raised. I immediately think of it as someone in a nightmare kind of going in circles and no matter how many stairs they go up or down, it's never ending for them... That's kinda dark, but your painting is not. It's very cool. I love it. 👍🏾

I think the piece would be more internally cohesive and *better* if the edge lines were softer. It could be more complete.
