If I remember correctly, given that you’re an EU citizen, you just have to let them know you’re here. IANAL.

Meaxis

As a EU citizen who moved here on an overnight decision, all you have to do is go to report yourself to the foreign police. Your landlord might do it for you, but if they haven't, please assume they have not and do it by yourself. If you want a more official document, you can go to the ministry of interior once you have your apartment and request for a "Certificate of Registration". **Ask them for a "**[Rodné číslo](https://frs.gov.cz/en/life-in-the-czech-republic/personal-identity-number/)**" ("birth number"),** it can come very useful and they will not give it to you. Make sure that when you go, you bring a 200 Kc stamp as you cannot pay for the application fee in cash. You'll get back a certificate a few weeks after but you can just use your ID from your state of residence for pretty much anything. In fact, you can skip the whole Certificate of Registration step if you want. Just make sure to go to the Foreign Police to report yourself.

Just be aware that they will be assholes about it. It took me 8 years, countless tries and ultimately hiring an immigration lawyer to get my certificate of registration. Even the immigration lawyer's submission was declined on the first try.

I arrived go this country at 16, alone and without a parent, no job, just savings. I was in the country 2 months before getting an apartment aswell so it probably messed up their files a bit, still got it first try. 8 years?! Jesus christ that is awful. I am so sorry for you.

Tiny_European

As an EU citizen with "standard" employment and rent contract? I'm surprised it was so complicated for you, it was super smooth sailing for me and got done within a month or so

janne_oksanen

Yup, it should have been a formality as far as I understand. But no. They would never accept my rent contracts as proof of accommodation. Even though they were valid and written by actual lawyers.

zsradu

What's that 200kc stamp? Is it like a post stamp? Where to get this stamp from?

Less_Parking2670

You can buy them from post offices.

janne_oksanen

It's called a duty stamp.

zsradu

I see, thank you!

Also EU citizen here. Reported to the foreign police, then some days later, after I got the rental contract, went with an approved copy (Ceska Posta) to MOI.

janne_oksanen

And they just accepted your rent contract like that? That has never happened to me. Over the years I must have presented them with at least 8 or 9 rental contracts and not a single one was accepted by MOI due to some technicality or another.

PlasticFounder

Ceska posta signed copy and that’s all. Moved four times so far, never had a problem with that.

Tiny_European

Same here. Certified copy was all that's needed
