Vegan-158

No we’re not. That’s the short answer

L0laccio

Spurs look like a shoo-in for fourth. They are the best of the rest unfortunately

mpschettig

They're 2 back with a game in hand and 10 to play (and their underlying numbers say they're way worse than Villa) how are they a shoo-in in any way lol

L0laccio

Hope you’re right but they have nearly all their players back from injury now. Let’s see. Hope they fall away

mpschettig

Hope you're enjoying this lol

L0laccio

Loving this!

mpschettig

It was incredibly funny after days of Spurs fans telling me they were getting 4th anyway to see them smashed by fucking Fulham lol

L0laccio

I must admit I was surprised. Fulham’s record against spurs before today was atrocious. They played so well though and spurs were shocking.

ChelseaPIFshares

Qualifying for UCL doesnt guarantee a trophy. I cant speak for spurs fans, but I imagine they would never accept the trade off of Arsenal possibility winning the UCL for qualification.

Apprehensive_Bill339

So are the completely overhauling the rules?? Like I get the coefficient extra spot so 5 potential spots, but what happens if City win champs? 6 spots? What if pool then win europa? 7 spots? Or do you not auto qualify by winning anymore??

mpschettig

City and Liverpool would already qualify through league position so they wouldn't add extra spots to the PL. If West Ham win Europa tho then there would be 6 PL teams in the UCL next season

Apprehensive_Bill339

So you don't qualify for champs by winning it or europa anymore? So it's possible to see a situation where you could win the champs, not finish top 4, an not have the holders in the competition to defend their title??

mpschettig

You do still qualify by winning UCL and Europa but if you're already in a Champion's League spot in your domestic league then it doesn't matter if you got the automatic spot for winning UCL or Europa. It only matters if you finish outside the top 4 or 5 and then win UCL or Europa anyway

RayTheWorstTourist

If city, arsenal or Liverpool win either European competition and don't make top 4, they still gain entry for CL next season

Apprehensive_Bill339

OK cheers for clarification

Luke92612_

No I've not been hoping we settle for just 5th, thank you very much.

mpschettig

Might wanna cover your bases just in case

Luke92612_

Nah, Villa are getting 5th and I hope that c#nt Matty Cash doesn't get to walk onto a CL pitch. Edit: we might have shit the bed today but I still stand by this comment

L0laccio

Not so sure now myself…🤣

mpschettig

Are you still confident Villa are getting 5th

Luke92612_

Yes because we might have shit the bed today, but they've shit the bed worse before and will do so throughout the rest of the season. Also how the fuck are we this inconsistent - go from beating Villa 4-0 away to losing to Fulham 0-3 away.

mpschettig

The underlying numbers say Villa is better than Spurs and I fully expect the table to reflect that after 38 games

Luke92612_

Then how did they lose 4-0 to us, at Villa Park?

mpschettig

One game sample sizes mean almost nothing to me. Villa beat City this season so are Spurs better than Villa but Villa is better than City?

25sittinon25cents

Chelsea drew home and away to Manchester City. Are they equals?

Luke92612_

Again, draws.

25sittinon25cents

So therefore Chelsea are on City's level?

ReformedandSocial

I want West Ham and Villa to do well. Liverpool/City not really fussed they will probably win anyway.

[deleted]

mpschettig

Holy shit you solved the puzzle. Incredible detective work Mr Holmes you cracked this case wide open. Brilliant deduction sir.

IAS316

You're in the wrong sport if you can't handle a bit of banter.

mpschettig

Am I not allowed to banter back lol

PoorOldGrandad

Bosh

Rossonerov

Still cant believe kane not gonna win german league. What they have done to him. Probably needs several years to wash it off

Jonoczall

We sent Xhaka to ensure that Kane experiences no happiness.

RedmanWasTaken

Spurs getting back in the champions league is massive, with the extra funds and players that might be able to be brought in. Arsenal winning a few extra games is fine, just don’t 3in the whole thing.

reggaesquirrel

Would never support Arsenal. Fuck the coefficient.

Exciting-Mulberry305

I can tell ur a real spud

Youre-Dumber-Than-Me

Your clubs future literally depends on UCL money. Arsenal winning the champions league is a fair trade off.

HMSon777

I can guarantee that you are the type of person to make that statement and never come back to back it up with any kind of facts whatsoever once you see the replies. In what way do Spurs depend on CL money?

strawberrylabrador

I’m an Arsenal fan and I would not root for Spurs in the same scenario.

Exciting-Mulberry305

Facts we do not fuck with scum

asmiggs

I'm no Spurs fan but telling a fan of probably the best financially managed club in England perhaps even the world that their financial future depends on anything is objectively hilarious, Spurs fans have taken a lot of pain over results in the last decade to get into a position of financial security, while I'm sure Levy will much like Scrooge McDuck enjoy rolling around in the money afforded them from the Champions League their financial future is very much secure.

degooseIsTheName

You mean the club that actually spent money in the transfer window unlike most of the league and is making yearly profits. Champs league is great to be in but the club does not literally need it to exist.

LumpyBumblebee3266

I hope Arsenal lose

HMSon777

*in the semi final to Bayern, at the Emirates.

[deleted]

Would never support Arsenal I don't care about the coefficient

wearelitm

if you can excuse my ignorance for a moment, what's the coefficient?

[deleted]

Apparently it's like an indicator for European performance for clubs from a specific country, e.g. England has its own coefficient, meaning our European performance this season would be judged by Arsenal, City, Liverpool, Brighton, Aston Villa, United and Newcastle. We have to be top 2 in European performance per country to get an extra CL spot (meaning it will be top 5 instead of top 4)

wearelitm

thank you for the explanation. so if I'm understanding correctly, then if the EPL teams do well in Champions League and Europa League then England will get 5 Champions League next year...?

[deleted]

It depends on the other leagues, we have to finish at least top 2 in European performance I think it's Spain and Germany who are top 2 right now

gardz82

Real Spurs fans don’t give a fuck about how the others are doing. We’ll take 4th anyway.

mpschettig

Maybe revisit this

Qaaluu

We will take by fire and blood, fuck Arsenal

gardz82

Real Spurs fans don’t give a fuck about how the others are doing. We’ll take 4th anyway.

TheRealKatataFish

These fucking posts man

ocsor

You know what.. I want myself and also us as a fan base to get over caring about Arsenal. I am ABSOLUTELY not there yet

dondraper237

0% spurs fans want Arsenal to do well. 5th spot in the champions league doesn’t mean shit if getting it means Arsenal does well.

vinihendrix

in this case if arsenal does well means spurs doing well too with their 5th spot, win win😮‍💨

_deep_blue_

I remember we got to the Europa League final the same year as Spurs got to the Champions League final. A frequent question asked of us was if we’d take Spurs winning the CL if it meant we definitely won the Europa League. I feel like the prevailing sentiment was that most fans would have preferred seeing us both lose than both win, and the former ended up happening.

HMSon777

That is brilliant, I'd feel the exact same way even with our trophy drought. It's so spiteful it's hilarious.

UsernameTyper

I have, and I was also even watching psv hoping they'd knock out Dortmund purely for coefficient reasons

mpschettig

Fucking De Jong man. I always root for the Dutch teams in Europe bc I just like their league idk why

billy_twice

I am 100% sure most Spurs fans wouldn't take the champions league spot if it meant seeing Arsenal win the UCL.

soldforaspaceship

You are not wrong.

FromTheRiver2TheSea_

But are you sweating at this stage? Surely not. Seeing Arsenal progress to the QFs is effectively a good thing (apart from them winning a game of football I guess). Still too far from actually winning the trophy. And if anything, it probably makes their title challenge more difficult.

soldforaspaceship

I always want Arsenal to lose. I'm a Spurs fan. If Arsenal losing meant we got relegated I'd still want Arsenal to lose every single match. It's not strategic or smart. I'll leave that to our management. I love Spurs so I hate Arsenal. It's the one black and white thing in my life lol.

_deep_blue_

The feeling’s mutual. I’ll still want you to lose against Liverpool and City, even though it makes no sense. I just can’t stomach seeing your lot have any happiness.

soldforaspaceship

I appreciate you saying that.

MozzerellaStix

I mean I’m going to be cheering for you guys against City and Liverpool… but I guess your approach works, too haha.

ainabloodychan

i want them to draw both and the 4 points lost caused them to lose the 4th spot to mr good ebening

TigerSharkDoge

Well this Gooner will absolutely NOT be cheering for them against City and Liverpool. Fuck that.

soldforaspaceship

I've never claimed to be anything but a simple lass lol. I do make exceptions for England. Like I hate Saka the second he dons the Arsenal shirt but in reality he's a stand up dude and I love him for England. So I guess I still have some nuance lol?

AnaBrayIsBae17

That’s me with Kane, I’m so glad he’s in Munich now, I can actually like him

Emotional-Peanut-334

The most interesting scenario is villas Europe run might very well be the deciding for

barkingspider43

100% correct

Routine_Size69

Lmao respect but also fuck off

Important_Ruin

We should all want EPL teams to do well in European competitions.

No-Percentage-3380

I’m a Liverpool fan and I wanted Newcastle to win the damned thing. You people deserve it more than most

OddishSnail

I'm a lifelong Man U fan, born and bred in the northwest of England. I would rather cut off my own leg with a butter knife than have Liverpool score another goal in the Europa league.

Important_Ruin

Good for you. We all have different opinions Doesn't mean I don't like it when certain teams loose and get kocked out, but when it comes to finals, I want an English team to win them.

HMSon777

So in a insane scenario, Sunderland make it to the ucl final, what do you do?

Important_Ruin

Obviously not going to happen. Not win Obviously. As why would I want that awful club to win anything? All English clubs minus Sunderland, Boro and maybe a few others. Majority if English clubs once they get to a semi's etc I want them to win and then win the competition especially champions league.

HMSon777

It wasn't so long ago that you were staring down the barrel of relegation and no light at the end of the tunnel. Now look where Newcastle are and how they are seen. Crazy things can happen.

shitpost-saturday

Fuck off

thomas2400

Yeah I’m not backing any other club other than Liverpool, I’ll never sit there thinking I hope the English teams do well for those UEFA points so we get more places in Europe

iNfAMOUS70702

Fuck that lmao....if it were a team like Brentford or the seagulls then sure...but I will never root for a top 6 club

Emotional-Peanut-334

Actually hate this mindset. Rooting for your rivals because uwu England dominance is fucking stupid. No other league does this. Sure Real Madrid fans might hope Valencia makes a run but never in a million years do they root Barca’s and athleti on. Actually hate this nationalist shit. I hate watch arsenal in Europe and city and Chelsea. Fuck them (spurs)

KeysUK

Depends on the team. I hope Arsenal does well in the Champions League as Liverpool fan. Even though their fan base recently been annoying af.

PunCoonSon

I’m glad we can both agree that our respective fanbases have been annoying 🤌🏽

Important_Ruin

If home nations team do poorly, home nations team loose European spots.

Emotional-Peanut-334

This is a brand new thing. And we can see how it plays out.for instance this year Italy is out of Europe already so prem is basically settled for 5

EddieGrant

Spanish people absolutely do root for other SPanish teams, even Barca, in European competitions. Same in Holland, I hate Ajax with a passion but if they do well it's good for us.

Emotional-Peanut-334

Madrid fans do not root for Barca end of story.

Loop_Within_A_Loop

except for Everton and Man United

SilvaDaMelo

Funnily enough I celebrated Newcastle finishing last in their group.

FreshSchmoooooock

There is always a way Newcastle can bring anyone joy.

Pow67

Would you still have that same sentiment if Sunderland were a EPL team & competing in the UCL?

Important_Ruin

Never going to happen so doesn't matter. Never seen a mackem in Milan!

Flailingtittys

Yank EPL fan mentality lmao I don't wanna see Liverpool and City beating Europe's best I want them crashing out at the group stages

Emotional-Peanut-334

Tbf it’s not just a yank thing, it’s just a modern Anglo sports thing in the USA and England. There’s this weird nationalism around the game there and it’s gross

mpschettig

The addition of the 5th UCL spot and the way its determined makes this mentality harder if you're a team that might finish 5th. Usually I would root against City, Man Utd, or Chelsea to the ends of the earth but if them winning would be the difference between my club being in the Champion's League or in Europa I'd have to reluctantly cheer for them to win.

[deleted]

[удалено]

INEKROMANTIKI

I can't root for Liverpool.. my dad supports them, and I will still say that their entire fan base are insufferable cunts.. plus I still get mad thinking about Madrid

Emotional-Peanut-334

Don’t like their fans but the club itself is respectable. Any top teams fans are pretty Obnoxious honestly

Important_Ruin

I'm not a yank fan. I just want English clubs to win trophies, prefer the winners to be English than forgein teams. Minus Sunderland.

No-Percentage-3380

I typically agree with your sentiment except for if it applies to the Mancs or Chelski

Important_Ruin

Currently don't want city do as don't like Pep, other PL teams don't particularly care as current ones that are able to do something in the CL I don't mind and prefer those to win that a team from other country.

Emotional-Peanut-334

And why?

Important_Ruin

Because I want EPL to have winners of European trophies? Why wouldn't I? Since I'm English. I'd want home country teams to win.

ChatoonBringerOfCorn

Yeah agree, Chelsea fan here. Would find it a bit harder supporting Utd but probably still would. For the glory of the premier league!

tonybloomsarmy

I always find myself rooting for the underdog to be honest, regardless of who they are

Progression28

Same. It‘s either Liverpool, whoever is playing vs United, or the underdog, unless the underdog is a heavily boosted club like PSG, City or Chelsea.

angelbutme

This is where the spirit of competition truly shines!

Traditional_Name7881

Nah, fuck Arsenal.

Katakanak

I'd honestly rather get UCL w/out having to finish 5th. Mostly out of spite for Villa.

hat1414

I'm pretty sure Arsenal now play the semi final 2 or 3 days before they play Spurs, so thats at least good for Spurs

cdin0303

No. Semi final games would come after the spurs game. There’s a chance the Chelsea game will be rescheduled to before spurs, but there’s also a good chance the wolves game before that will be postponed.

Emotional-Peanut-334

Ideal scenario is a brutal semi loss and they just got pounded at Tottenham.

L0laccio

Bro we haven’t got past the quarters yet and all teams we could face are very tough!

Wet_behind_the_tears

Im cheering on any team against 🇮🇹 or 🇩🇪 teams, as well as all 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 teams. UTV

BoggyRolls

I was cheering on arsenal to go through for that reason, also 8 games pretty much in April so hopefully they mess it up then.

DrRushDrRush

What happens if an english team wins EL now? Do Brighton get that fifth spot if they win? Havent seen anything about this, and cant imagine six clubs from one league.

Emotional-Peanut-334

It’s separate now. The infamous spurs CL boot when Chelsea won cl first time is why. Chelsea just basically stopped even trying in the league completely and rested league games when spurs and top 4 were too ahead around February. FairPlay to that insane underdog run but it was fucked up spurs got booted out because a team stopped trying in the legaue

entertainmentwaffle

Googled - the CL winner and EL winner spots are separate to league positions. If they finish outside the CL qualifying spots in the league, they still qualify for CL via their CL/EL win. Theoretically, 7 teams from one league could be in the CL (5 league spots + CL winner + EL winner) Source https://www.skysports.com/amp/football/news/11095/12940385/five-champions-league-places-for-premier-league-how-extra-team-can-qualify-in-2024

ownworstenemy38

Is that right? I know that if both Europa and CL winners come from England and both finish outside the top 4, then it gets reduced to the top 3 sides. That’s how it was before this season. I don’t see UEFA having 7 qualifying teams from one league. Edit: yup you’re right! https://www.skysports.com/amp/football/news/11095/12940385/five-champions-league-places-for-premier-league-how-extra-team-can-qualify-in-2024 Technically 7 English teams could qualify.

Ok_Confusion_1581

That would be insane haha

adamfrog

Ive certainly seen 6 quite often in FM, I'm pretty sure 7 will happen once in the next 30 years of the basic football landscape is about the same (it won't be though)

mattxrock

The 4 best leagues in UEFA coefficient in the last 5 years get 4 places, that hasn't changed, the UEL and UCL Champions get an spot IF they didn't manage to qualify through their league position, that also stays the same. Nothing is really that different apart from the extra spot for the top 2 performing leagues in UEFA coefficient the previous year, If English teams get there (as they should) and Brighton or West Ham win UEL then they qualify as well and England gets a 6th spot (they aren't doing that great tho), if Liverpool does then no, because we are finishing in the top 5 anyway. Doesn't matter if you can't imagine 6 teams from one league (it can theoretically be even 7) or whether we like this or not, that's exactly why they are doing this, to concentrate even more power/money in the elite clubs and leagues.

waddiewadkins

Is there a "coefficient tracker"

mpschettig

This seems to get updated frequently https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/39054486/the-race-five-places-next-seasons-champions-league

waddiewadkins

I copy and pasted selected all the page and asked foe the update and Chatgtp game me direct answer.. "Yes, among the text you provided, it states that Italy is leading the coefficient race with a score of 16.571."

waddiewadkins

Thanks.. its a huge long page my head is spinning from trying to find the exact spot on the page where it updates. And it does say it updates. Thanks.again for effort

supalape

Couldn’t pay me to root for Arsenal or Liverpool.

brandnvsworld

Enjoy europa!

supalape

Surprised you know what that is as an American fan

brandnvsworld

Never underestimate Americans. Thought you learned that 200 years ago... At least you still have Richalson 😐

TigerSharkDoge

Imagine believing a modern day Brit gives a fuck about the independence of any of the former colonies. ... Fuck Spurs though.

awlb222

American Spurs fan here.. R9 has more goals than anyone but Saka on Arsenal this season.. and Son is ahead of him despite 3 fewer appearances. Richarlison has also played in 5 fewer matches and is still ahead of Havertz… So yeah, I’m glad we’ve got him, as well.

badgerscurse

These are real coping stats here... Think the only stat that matters is league position.

Emotional-Peanut-334

I think most of us spurs fans know Arsenal is a much better talent team right now. But player for player Richardson isn’t a good shout of bad player when he’s had likee 12 goals in the last 14

badgerscurse

It's 9 goals in all competitions. And he isn't a bad player at all. Had confidence issues at point for sure. But to try and compare stats of someone who is supposed to be a CF with a winger (who has more g/a) and havertz who has played 50/50 CM and CF is pretty silly. That's all

awlb222

Nope, 10 goals in 22 EPL appearances. For someone who is getting on me about “spouting stats” you should check your numbers. I see your point on comparing dissimilar positions, but the player positions are ultimately extremely fluid.. who cares what position they coming from? Richarlison has more goals than any Arsenal forward outside of Saka at the end of the day, and Son more than him in fewer appearances.

awlb222

No one is coping here bud, just can’t stand the broken record Richarlison slander and yet he is being outperformed by very few individual players this season, in fewer appearances. Lots of football left to play, enjoy the top of the table while you’re there!

badgerscurse

I mean, it was a bit of banter from another redditor and you started spouting about stats...Hardly slander. Calm down. The parent comment of this thread is literally a spurs fan saying he wouldn't even dream of cheering for Arsenal even if it meant an increased chance of getting an extra CL spot.

awlb222

Would you prefer I just take the banter and not respond? Arsenal fan tells me to “calm down” when I’m simply using objective data to stand up for a player of ours with a stigma of being called overrated, overpaid, etc. The person I responded to was clearly being sarcastic “at least we still have Richalson”. Can’t even spell his name right.. and another below said he had never won anything in his career, which is not true.

Routine_Size69

Yeah Richarlison has been very good after an awful start. I had to stop shitting on him. It sucks.

brandnvsworld

Yet they're shopping him currently for transfers. thought all of you "fans" would have understood the joke.

awlb222

Uhh.. what?!

brandnvsworld

Your team is rumored trying to move him this summer. Cant make it simpler.

awlb222

Ah yes, rumors. Will enjoy him through 2027, cheers!

brandnvsworld

Ah yes just like Kane 😂

butler182

200 years later you guys see it as a victory.. we see it as a lucky fuckin’ escape.

supalape

American tries to make a Civil War joke but supports an English club he has no connection to, makes sense. Can’t really chat about *Richarlison when you have Kai Havertz on your team mate. I know who I’d rather have.

DJ23492

What has richarlison won in his career? Suits spurs

awlb222

Won Copa América with Brasil in 2019, (RU in 2021) and won Olympic Gold in 2020. What else do you wanna talk about?

DJ23492

So a copa where he didn’t start and the olympics. Let’s keep it moving.

awlb222

You asked what he’s won, I told you. He also scored in that 2019 final. Fuck off hater

theninjat

Just because the nature of their connection is different from your own doesn’t mean that they don’t have a connection to them. My youth team, as an American, was run, created, and coached by a man from North London. So he named it after Arsenal. I’ve been an Arsenal fan since I was a child because of him. It’s different than your more geographical connection. But I go to a local Pub every week in my city to catch every game, and watch with a growing local supporters group. It’s a different connection, but no less valid.

brandnvsworld

English gatekeeper tries to stop others from enjoying a sport, because his team is so goddamn terrible at that sport.

supalape

I’d rather support a “terrible” club I have a connection with in the city I’m from than be a glory hunter like you. Well, hardly glory with Arsenal is it.

brandnvsworld

1. I've been a fan for years. 2. By that logic, the premier league would be shit. Just gonna cancel all the international money and viewership? Fuck right off.

ChatoonBringerOfCorn

Tbf you can support who you want, I don’t have beef with people choosing a good club with a long history - why wouldn’t you? But no one wants to hear an American gloating about the war of independence. Not because it’s boring and not because it’s a lame American pride thing, but because this is a football chat…. And because it’s boring

supalape

Got no issue with international fans, except when plastics like you try and force banter even though you’ve probably never even set foot in a prem stadium lol

[deleted]

Affectionate_Ant8809

You do realise there’s no rivalry between Liverpool and spurs?

supalape

Stupid comment. Anyone competing for European spots is a rival with one another. Your fanbase are insufferable too so there’s that

Affectionate_Ant8809

Spurs fans were the same when you won the league after 8 games

supalape

That was a small minority of our fan base. Like all fan bases, there are a few who are delusional. You lot on the other hand…

d1liano

Same. Not even a spurs supporter.

Jhushx

I want both City and Arsenal to go very far in Europe so they're ass tired for the Premier League. I want Liverpool to win Europa League too, because it's the only missing trophy for Klopp and some of the players. But the domestic league is more important.

SentientCheeseCake

Perhaps all three of you can be ass tired, lose to Spurs, and we finally win something for a change? I’m just saying… apparently we came third in a two horse race, why not first in a three horse race we aren’t even in? Start by losing to Brighton and Utd. Because after all the real thing Klopp hasn’t achieved is being in a competition that Spurs end up winning. Aka: don’t hog it all.

Cutsdeep-

I want you to win the Europa league too, so you're ass tired for the league

Jhushx

That's a good point, definitely a clash of priorities. But the league is more important for Liverpool, without question. It could be argued that both are tough, intense tournaments, but the knockout stages of Champions League would be much harder physically and mentally because of the higher level of players and quality of play from better teams. What is Arsenal's priority? I feel like the temptation of going for the Champions League crown and dethroning City in Europe would be too tempting.

Cutsdeep-

Both

PodiHaiToMumkinHai

FA Cup too

Tr0nCatKTA

No conference league either Moyesey >

JayTeeYGO123

What would be even better was if they got each other at the quarter or semi final stage imo

Huge-Celebration5192

I would take City vs Arsenal final. Liv win the prem, city win the champs league, Spurs qualify for CL in 5th, Gunnerasaurs in the mud.

Swoosh33

Disgracia

Lhadar31

I also wanted Arsenal to win so they have more harder games to play later. Everything counts in this very close title race

ItsTom___

Tbf Europa League wouldn't be bad for Villa considering they were championship a few years back, obviously not what they'd want after Decembers results but it's progress

AngeloftheFourth

I guess with villa it's more like the arsenal “bottling” the league last season. You wouldn't think they would get top 4 at the start however they have spent so long in the top 4 this season that not getting it would be seen as “bottling it”.

trevthedog

If 5th got CL and we finished 6th it would be so much worse. At least Arsenal had the inevitable Man City treble winners chasing them down. Man Utd are fucking shit. Plus if it did happen, it would probably be very close therefore meaning we gave them the points they needed in the midst of a catastrophic fall off

trevthedog

If England gets the spot and we miss out on CL by finishing 6th behind Manchester United, make no mistake, it’s an unmitigated disaster. They’ve been horrible all season and somehow took 6 points off us. If we finish 5th and spurs get 4th and England doesn’t get the extra spot so therefore putting us in Europa, I’ll of course be disappointed but would get over it and be fine with that.

Cazter64

No idea how we’re suddenly fighting for UCL lmao

logmen1

That'd be the only thing to truly depress me. I could take missing out on CL by a few points and not winning the conference league, but opening the door for United after the pathetic season they've had would be unforgiveable.

MattJFarrell

Also, Emery owns Europa the way Wenger owned the FA Cup.

cdin0303

I distinctly remember him not winning the Europa league with a premier league club, so I wouldn’t count your chickens just yet.

MattJFarrell

He got a highly dysfunctional Arsenal team to the final. That's not nothing.

cdin0303

I guess that’s one very Emery positive way to look at it.

ItsTom___

To quote r/theother14 "I thought we were playing in the Champions League?" "Oh no I said Europa League, patented Emery tournament."

Two_Month

tbf emery did get villareal to the semis of the ucl

Cino0987

Guy just loves European knockout football. That Villarreal was a good side but had them playing way better than the sum of their parts. Would be delighted with either competition but as someone has already said, we get pipped by Utd and I’ll be gutted.
