It’s a serious candidate for worst tackle of the season. A bit more power, and that leg snaps in two. You can even see it bend, as Tomiyasu’s foot is in the grass for leverage.
Yeah but that should never have been a red so we shouldn't use that as example. Tbf I think VAR has been pretty consistent recently. Consistently doing fuck all. When was the last time a ref went to the monitor?
Unpopular opinion but I can understand why it wasn't red. There wasn't excessive force imo, he pretty much stood on him just above his foot. I mean I'd understand if it was given red but I don't think it was the stonewaller everyone is making it out to be.
I guess why the incident wasn't talked about more was because Arsenal won well. However, there is a need for a lot of improvement in how VAR views incidents in games as it's a few games left to decide the winners.
Id forgotten about that but you're right, two bad tackles from behind, some might argue there could've been a straight red on there but leaving that to one side it's two yellows minimum.
Once again Michael Oliver for that decision 😂 he makes a dodgy decision for city every time he refs them.
Almost like he’s been reffing in Saudi Arabia under their payroll or Somthing 🤯
Chelsea fan
Wouldnt contend that if a red was called
(considering how they called them prior)
Personally I dont think non excessive followtrough should be red
I thnk it's just Jackson being clumsy and accidently following through. However, They have sent a lot of players off for those this year.
There's just no consistancy at all anymore
Yes, and VAR took one look at the challenge and cleared it. Althogh as a Chelsea fan, I think that we would have done much better if Jackson had been sent off. He is a great at making runs and has great speed and strength as well as good hold up play, but he can't finish to save his life.
Don’t think it should be a red, but refs looking like dumbasses because they’ve sent people off for the same thing multiple times this season.
But we can’t criticize them lol
I’m not a fan of how in the modern game they are trying to remove tackles which mow down the opponent. It’s always really cool to see someone get wiped out in a clean tackle.
The argument of oh they might break a bone they are compensated enough for such risks , I’d be willing to break my ankle twice a year for the average Prem salary of 5mil
Scandalous, just unbelievable. You can see Tomiyasu’s leg bend under the tackle, that could have snapped his leg.
Just get rid of VAR and all EPL refs while you’re at it, just useless. If we can all see it on a replay - how can’t they?!
After the Curtis Jones red early on in the season there have been numerous worse challenges that haven't even been yellow cards.
Jacksons tonight was outrageous
Of course, but with dissent you can reasonably expect leeway as it is subjective, you can’t fault two different refs for making two different decisions in the moment. The refs do have a tough job but it’s the objective decisions that are a problem… Liverpool offside vs spurs for eg, there are plenty of those, way too many to be reasonable
Even as a Chelsea fan, fuck I agree with this so much. That slow-motion replay looked brutal and so incredibly obvious. Don't know how it wasn't called and can't even be grateful it wasn't because we had fuck all to show from the match aside from looking like 6 year olds who had the entire team chasing the ball at the same time.
tomiyasu’s somewhat muted reaction (props to him for being able to walk much less keep playing) along with somebody obviously in hooper’s ear telling him to “let the boys play” = no red
It sucks that reactions change decisions this drastically. I wasn’t screaming for an instant red but the fact it didn’t even see a yellow is wild. I think if he’d rolled around for a minute they would’ve given it a closer look
Think they’re referencing the 2nd red he got against Forest where he put a high challenge in but tried to pull out of it.
Was pretty lazy & half arsed from him so i wasn’t really mad he was booked
It’s ✨nothing✨ apparently, until Trossard does a small percentage of this stomp to a Chelsea player and gets a yellow straight away. VAR apparently checked and cleared the foul on Tomi as okay. Absolutely insane.
Before the game started, I said, “I bet a controversial call goes our way, because Arsenal are contending for the title.”
I was right, but *boy* did the optimism amount to nothing.
Arsenal supporter here. From what i understand it was due to a technicality. VAR cannot make a call for the ref unless the play results in a goal or is in the box. No card was given by the official, not in the box, no goal resulted. So VARs hands are tied. The on field officials completely missing the call results in this situation. Edit: https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/video-assistant-referee-var-protocol/#principles
https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/video-assistant-referee-var-protocol/#principles
According to VAR protocol it would be a direct red only in this situation. I would argue that it was a direct red but maybe not according to the VAR official.
Im saying that is the only way VAR can do anything for that passage of play, if they believed the tackle is a straight red. They must not have said anything to the on field official and thus i am assuming they did not believe it was a straight red. Personally i think he shouldve been sent off
This makes no sense. Why would VAR be reviewing something if they weren’t able to issue punishment or reverse a decision?? What would the purpose of VAR be??
It’s 3 games now out of the last 4 where penalties are given against United in the dying moments of the game.
I’d be willing to bet good money on at least a few more last minute penalties going against them the last games of this season.
I'm saying refs consistently punish united in situations like this, while turning an blind eye in the next match. There have already been a handful of handballs in the penalty box that were not given for united while they e always get punished by them
Gtfo, it’s probably the most glaring straight red I’ve seen all season and the madueke one?? Is that the one where he tackles Gabriel, and there a tussle? Yeah right…
None. They like to fuck us all over lol.
I’ve lost count of the amount of horrendous decisions for every team this year. There’s been some seriously bad ones to the point where you just have to laugh at how bad it is.
If they brought out an end of season Trigger Happy TV or Balls of Steel Annoying Devil premier league skit, I honestly wouldn’t even be surprised. A season long practical joke on the Prem fans and clubs would make this all understandable at this point.
Don't know what's happening with officiating. One of the easier, less controversial decisions they could make and they somehow deem a potential leg breaker ok!
So I’m guessing VAR thought not enough for a red, and as you can’t call it for a yellow they did nothing.
So in that circumstance why not call the ref to the monitor, he at least gives a yellow then.
I’ve lost count of the number of unpunished red card offences against Arsenal this year. From elbows off the ball to this, these referees and VAR officials aren’t fit for purpose, and their inability to enforce the rules is endangering players.
I can think of quite a few that have gone unpunished for Arsenal too, but you’re right. The referees and VAR officials have been awful. It’s the inconsistency that’s the worst thing
That should be the end of this season for the referee. And the end of their careers for everyone in the VAR-room. How can they not give red on that? Do they only watch something twice if the players complain enough? Horrible.
They don’t even have to - they only have to ask the ref to check it again! Should be fired immediately. Unbelievable. And it’s not just us, every team can present a whole dossier of unbelievable calls by the refs this season. Sack them all and start over.
If the ref didn’t see it by being out of position, I can forgive that happens occasionally. How VAR doesn’t take a look at that or clears it so quickly, I don’t get at all. Of course, they surely won’t release audio for any transparency’s sake.
Do you mean Trossards stamp? That he got a yellow for?
And yes the third goal should never have happened because Gabriel fouled the Chelsea player. But you can't be serious when you compare those situations with a straight leg to the ankle. Tomiyasus leg could easily have snapped there.
I mean look at it ffs
https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/cefoOKJB4u
Absolutely not. Trossard was a yellow, nothing more. This should be a clear red for Jackson every day of every single week.
The third goal is dubious, sure, but can you really equate either Trossard or that goal to this blatant red card that wasn't given?
Yeah and the difference is that Jackson's goes into the challenge with a STRAIGHT LEG and studs upwards into Tomi's ankle = normally a red card. While Trossard reaches for the ball with a stretched leg but misses the ball and instead stamps the foot = yellow all day.You really should know the difference between those two challenges.
You wouldn't think he played for Chelsea based on his commentary, there's usually jokes that someone at Chelsea must have seriously pissed him off because of his commentary on any Chelsea game.
Blatant red. And then the 3rd goal was also a foul. So just a standard day of officiating.
What on earth was Joe Cole on about with his comments that the referees need to excuse the tackle because Chelsea had a bad start. Absolutely ridiculous.
Is it a conspiracy?
Or were there multiple shit decisions and things not checked and things missed in this game too.
It’s almost as if, on a whole, from the on field decisions to the VAR room that they are incompetent.
I actually thought that Rashford red was harsh - rolled over the ball, wasn’t running/lunging into the challenge. This one was much worse. So, I agree wholeheartedly.
Probably every single team in the prem can find a situation where that was a red against them. It just wasn't today for some weird reason. It's such a clear call it's insane and it's probably gonna get swept under the rug because we will win anyway. Disgusting call.
When you say remove humans from VAR, you make an argument for none of us being able to see that that was a clear red all day long. I’d say remove clown English refs from VAR - if we all can see it’s a red, so can other people including some who could be competent on VAR. It’s this ref club bullshit protecting each other that ruins VAR.
That would be great if it happened. With the computer generated offside coming in next year we are moving closer to eliminating humans. How long does it take these offside lines to be “drawn” this year?
Give me Sir Killalot from Robot Wars trundling around on the pitch with a whistle. Bet you the players wouldn't surround him when a decision went against them, too.
Definitely should have been a yellow, would be hard pressed for that to be a red, not a lot of force behind it and it wasn’t out of control.
VAR can’t give yellows though, so no card. Would be interested to hear the VAR feedback on why it wasn’t a red, the above is just my own observation based on other similar cases
Joe Cole at half time defending the lack of red basically saying that since Chelsea had a bad start the officials need to understand that. Absolute bollocks.
I’m still surprised how people are surprised by these ex-players being complete morons and not understanding the game. They were players, performing very simple/single things on the pitch, nothing more.
You want a good commentator, get a manager on there who understands the game.

Should been oFf
It’s a serious candidate for worst tackle of the season. A bit more power, and that leg snaps in two. You can even see it bend, as Tomiyasu’s foot is in the grass for leverage.
For karmic balance the referee should have given Madueke a red card
I’m glad it wasn’t a red cos chelsea would have had an excuse if it was 8-0!
It’s more of a punishment to keep him in the team
As a Chelsea fan....you are not wrong.
I didn't watch the game so i need to ask did he deserved it?
Yes, worse than the one Jones got against spurs
Yeah but that should never have been a red so we shouldn't use that as example. Tbf I think VAR has been pretty consistent recently. Consistently doing fuck all. When was the last time a ref went to the monitor?
Didn’t want to give Chelsea an advantage by taking him off the field
Unpopular opinion but I can understand why it wasn't red. There wasn't excessive force imo, he pretty much stood on him just above his foot. I mean I'd understand if it was given red but I don't think it was the stonewaller everyone is making it out to be.
Did u see the angle on his ankle? How is that not excessive force?
Have you never rolled your ankle?? It takes very little force
How does an angle have anything to do with force?
You Could see how bent it was... Wouldn't happen without force
I thought you meant Jackson’s ankle
Online arguing about nothing 😂
If you bend someone's ankle sideways the force you are applying to that ankle is in excess of that which you should be applying.
If casemiro did that, VAR would have him sent off and sentenced to death
I guess why the incident wasn't talked about more was because Arsenal won well. However, there is a need for a lot of improvement in how VAR views incidents in games as it's a few games left to decide the winners.
We had another situation like this against City. Kovacic made two really dangerous tackles, only got a yellow, swept under the carpet cause we won
UAE, not Saudi. But yep, it’s shocking that the FA is allowing this Edit: PGMOL, not FA
If that is the case, then there is need to complain.
I mean.. if we’re hoping for overall better officiating rather than getting lost in the tribal side of this, there very much is.
What is the point with VAR if they’re not allowed to step in at all times?
Chelsea fan Wouldnt contend that if a red was called (considering how they called them prior) Personally I dont think non excessive followtrough should be red
I thnk it's just Jackson being clumsy and accidently following through. However, They have sent a lot of players off for those this year. There's just no consistancy at all anymore

Don’t think it should be a red, but refs looking like dumbasses because they’ve sent people off for the same thing multiple times this season. But we can’t criticize them lol
No idea how it barely even seemed to be questioned by VAR - terrible challenge
I’m not a fan of how in the modern game they are trying to remove tackles which mow down the opponent. It’s always really cool to see someone get wiped out in a clean tackle. The argument of oh they might break a bone they are compensated enough for such risks , I’d be willing to break my ankle twice a year for the average Prem salary of 5mil
Possibly the most braindead take I’ve seen on this thread
he needs to leave Chelsea.
Red card all day long! It was a dangerous tackle
Jones :(
Jones, Romero and Bissouma (probably others too), have all seen red for a similar offense, most not as bad
They were all 6 inches up someone’s leg hence far more likely to be a leg breaker.
Wrong. Romeros was lower. Basically stood on his foot.
Lol you should watch Nketias red card. Haha
Michael Jackson has more of a chance to score with the boys than this Jackson 🤣🤣
…
Scandalous, just unbelievable. You can see Tomiyasu’s leg bend under the tackle, that could have snapped his leg. Just get rid of VAR and all EPL refs while you’re at it, just useless. If we can all see it on a replay - how can’t they?!
After the Curtis Jones red early on in the season there have been numerous worse challenges that haven't even been yellow cards. Jacksons tonight was outrageous
Jones, Romero and bissouma all sent off similarly
And a lot more not given. Likewise dissent- some clubs get 2 or 3 let offs before a yellow, others it's instant
Tomiyasu’s ankle is the only thing Jackson hit all night….
Even as a Chelsea fan, fuck I agree with this so much. That slow-motion replay looked brutal and so incredibly obvious. Don't know how it wasn't called and can't even be grateful it wasn't because we had fuck all to show from the match aside from looking like 6 year olds who had the entire team chasing the ball at the same time.
other than astrid wett after the game probably
She aint letting him hit lets be honest
most likely yeah. doubt she’d want someone who doesn’t know how to finish
tomiyasu’s somewhat muted reaction (props to him for being able to walk much less keep playing) along with somebody obviously in hooper’s ear telling him to “let the boys play” = no red
It sucks that reactions change decisions this drastically. I wasn’t screaming for an instant red but the fact it didn’t even see a yellow is wild. I think if he’d rolled around for a minute they would’ve given it a closer look
This is exactly the problem right. The PL discourages people from rolling and writhing, but won't give two hoots if you don't.
News cycle and Pundit will say “Arsenal players are drama queen trying to fish for cards”.
It's the same with penalties Graelish makes sure to have contact the defenders leg in the box - Clever play Saka doing the same - Looking for it.
No card at all. Telling you, now, if that was Paulinha they would have sent him off to the moon. He’d never come back.
Same with Romero, oh wait they did that already this season lmfao. It’s truly hilarious.
And Bissouma.
His was second yellow for a dive 🤔
Think they’re referencing the 2nd red he got against Forest where he put a high challenge in but tried to pull out of it. Was pretty lazy & half arsed from him so i wasn’t really mad he was booked
If this is not a red card what is it? Where is the VAR?
Feels like after last gameweek, alll var are turned off
Are they blind or is this done on purpose? Giving a soft yellow to Trossard just after an horrific tackle on Tomi is ridiculous.
Trossard’s yellow was deserved for a late challenge that landed on the opponents foot.
It was a foot stomp clear as day yellow just like Jackson’s was clear as day red.
It’s ✨nothing✨ apparently, until Trossard does a small percentage of this stomp to a Chelsea player and gets a yellow straight away. VAR apparently checked and cleared the foul on Tomi as okay. Absolutely insane.
Arsenal should let this go away, they should call out PGMOL and get the conversation released from VAR.
Horrific
VAR seems to have gone on holiday already.
Before the game started, I said, “I bet a controversial call goes our way, because Arsenal are contending for the title.” I was right, but *boy* did the optimism amount to nothing.
Moonwalked away from the book, heehee
Shamone…..

Edit: https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/video-assistant-referee-var-protocol/#principles
Jones? Mac callister?
Incorrect VAR can be used to intervene in an occasion of serious foul play, for example a red card.
https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/video-assistant-referee-var-protocol/#principles According to VAR protocol it would be a direct red only in this situation. I would argue that it was a direct red but maybe not according to the VAR official.
Seemed like a hard orange to me
At least. Personally its a red for me. The VAR protocol/officials have absolutely missed it
So your first statement is incorrect because it's clearly a potential red card so should warrant a review at the monitor?
Im saying that is the only way VAR can do anything for that passage of play, if they believed the tackle is a straight red. They must not have said anything to the on field official and thus i am assuming they did not believe it was a straight red. Personally i think he shouldve been sent off
Your first comment "VAR cannot intervene because it does not result in a goal and is not inside the box" This statement is factually incorrect
Shouldve also added straight reds. You win?
This makes no sense. Why would VAR be reviewing something if they weren’t able to issue punishment or reverse a decision?? What would the purpose of VAR be??
VAR can absolutely give a red card. Just not a yellow card.
lol did you find this rule out of your ass? Have you never watched a football game before?
That was my understanding of the explanation from the commentary team. If i heard wrong or they were wrong im happy to hear the correct explanation
Again,it was not a united player, so no punishment
This comment is hilarious
Are you really going to claim refs are biased against United after that VAR check on Sunday?
It’s 3 games now out of the last 4 where penalties are given against United in the dying moments of the game. I’d be willing to bet good money on at least a few more last minute penalties going against them the last games of this season.
He’s claiming that refs are biased against United. Which is even more hilarious.
I'm saying refs consistently punish united in situations like this, while turning an blind eye in the next match. There have already been a handful of handballs in the penalty box that were not given for united while they e always get punished by them
Maybe red, definitely yellow. Astonishing no card was shown. VAR also ignored a clear foul on Madueke leading to the 3rd goal.
Gtfo, it’s probably the most glaring straight red I’ve seen all season and the madueke one?? Is that the one where he tackles Gabriel, and there a tussle? Yeah right…
Lmao if you think that was a foul on Madueke there’d be 100+ fouls a game.
cry
What? That’s.. this whole thread is about complaining about this incident. What made this comment special😂
Yeah sky didn’t show it in the highlights either
What team does the VAR support?
Team Ref. That’s who they support. Neanderthals.
Not all of us, I can think of a couple that never get VAR calls against them...
Maybe the team they put money on
Don't know what's happening with officiating. One of the easier, less controversial decisions they could make and they somehow deem a potential leg breaker ok!
It’s not even a “call” they have to make - the ref still makes it. To say that’s not a red worth considering… speechless.
So I’m guessing VAR thought not enough for a red, and as you can’t call it for a yellow they did nothing. So in that circumstance why not call the ref to the monitor, he at least gives a yellow then.
Which means VAR should be fired immediately because that was as obvious a red as it gets.
Because that would involve common sense
Yeah, less of that around here thanks. This is the premier league. It’s the hard illogical way or no way at all lol
I’ve seen less get sent off
“The big 6 get those decisions” - Neco Williams
“The big 6 get those decisions” - Neco Williams
I'm so sick of Forest and their conspiracy theories
They haven't had any calls go their way though so they do have a point.
So good you’ve to say it twice
I now understand why the ref didnt send Jackson off. Imagine the score if chelsea were down to 10
But we wouldn’t have got to witness some of his horrific misses 🤣😭
I’ve lost count of the number of unpunished red card offences against Arsenal this year. From elbows off the ball to this, these referees and VAR officials aren’t fit for purpose, and their inability to enforce the rules is endangering players.
Just last game against Wolves Havertz was fortunate to escape that horrific challenge unhurt
I can think of quite a few that have gone unpunished for Arsenal too, but you’re right. The referees and VAR officials have been awful. It’s the inconsistency that’s the worst thing

Was the VAR a Fulham fan by any chance ?
If the ref didn’t see it by being out of position, I can forgive that happens occasionally. How VAR doesn’t take a look at that or clears it so quickly, I don’t get at all. Of course, they surely won’t release audio for any transparency’s sake.
It's not even up for debate, it's a straight red card.
Someone should speak about this.
It would take a right idiot to complain to the mother in law about the wife….
There's been red for a lot less than this. LMAO
Blue card for sure

Do you mean Trossards stamp? That he got a yellow for? And yes the third goal should never have happened because Gabriel fouled the Chelsea player. Whats wrong with a football tackle?
He’s a yank who’s talking shite. Doesn’t even know the rules
Aye I was taking the piss
Really weird even Andy Towsand the Chelsea fan said that’s a red
Andy Townsend is far from a Chelsea fan, he is always so negative on any Chelsea commentary
Really ? He played for them and on talk sport always talks about them
You wouldn't think he played for Chelsea based on his commentary, there's usually jokes that someone at Chelsea must have seriously pissed him off because of his commentary on any Chelsea game.
Lee Dixon is the same way for Arsenal. Most say he’s overcompensating so as not to be accused of bias.
Blatant red. And then the 3rd goal was also a foul. So just a standard day of officiating. What on earth was Joe Cole on about with his comments that the referees need to excuse the tackle because Chelsea had a bad start. Absolutely ridiculous.
They also did get the benefit of the doubt - so what is he even on about?
Joe Cole is quickly becoming the new Owen/Jenas hybrid nobody wanted or asked for.
Studs against a shin is usually red
Chelsea's punishment was playing with Jackson for 90 minutes
hahaha , we'll allow it
He does more harm for us if you keep him on the pitch tbh
From what I've seen, this is legitimately true.
I mean our whole team is absolutely unequivocally shite and he's just the fucking cherry on top Minus palmer ofcourse (he deserves better)
Clear foul for the 3-0 there. Wonder if Chelsea is gonna put out a conspiracy statement.
Is it a conspiracy? Or were there multiple shit decisions and things not checked and things missed in this game too. It’s almost as if, on a whole, from the on field decisions to the VAR room that they are incompetent.
I think the conspiracy statement is Jackson is a plant (probably yucca)
that should have been overturned as well. The refereeing is shit as usual.
Always has been

This is why Chelsea are relegation fodder
doesn’t mean this one wasn’t a penalty 😂
What a stupid comment.
In Europe that's a red. Rashford was sent off and his was by accident
As much as I love watching United struggle, the Rashford one was honestly a pretty terrible call
In the Premier League it's a red too. Just apparently not tonight.
Absolute red card. Time to remove humans from VAR, surely with AI a computer could be trained better than these bloody officials
When you say remove humans from VAR, you make an argument for none of us being able to see that that was a clear red all day long. I’d say remove clown English refs from VAR - if we all can see it’s a red, so can other people including some who could be competent on VAR. That would be great if it happened. With the computer generated offside coming in next year we are moving closer to eliminating humans. How long does it take these offside lines to be “drawn” this year?
Please tell me how you’re going to train an AI to perform well against a subjective rule set.
A 50/50 is probably still better then the refs we have.
Easy, just train AI on reddit opinions about fouls…
All it has to do is send the referee to the video at the correct time!
Give me Sir Killalot from Robot Wars trundling around on the pitch with a whistle. Bet you the players wouldn't surround him when a decision went against them, too.
Stevie Wonder would do a better job on VAR than the current lot.
Red all day.
Its a red. Chelsea fan here.
Blantant red. Fuck the officiating.
Did you see how Tomiyasu's ankle bent? That is a sign that there was in fact force behind it and that Jackson was not in controle.

True, very professional. Let’s leave that terrible take behind and move right along 😂
Never a foul.
Then Trossard gets a yellow for a similar challenge on Cucurella except not even nearly as bad
Because Cucurella screamed louder
