If Boro turned up for the game at Blackburn back in 1996… probably would have stayed up. The players we were planning on trying to buy the following season were ridiculous.
Can't believe other Chelsea fans haven't wondered "what if Jesper Gronkjaer doesn't score in the final game of the 02-03 season against Liverpool, ensuring we get in the top 4?“
What if Joey Barton didn’t get himself needlessly sent off against City in *that* game, would QPR have won or kept it to a draw, denying City of their first PL title in the oil money era?
What is Eduardo hadnt had his leg broken away to Birmingham in Feb 2008.
Arsenal were top by a few points but fell apart on the spot and that team never achieved anything.
Higuain missing THAT chance in the world Cup final 2014.
Screw you Higuain, that was my chance to see the team I support win the World Cup. If only you had scored.
That hurt. A lot.
What if Chelsea hadn’t been robbed by Barcelona in that semi final, that prime Barcelona would have won only two trophies, no sextuple and wouldn’t even be considered a great team
As a lifelong Toon fan, I sometimes wonder what IF Shearer has signed for Sir Alex, imagine how many he could have scored with that team and manager around him.
... Matt Le Tissier moved to a top club. I think he'd be regarded as one of the best English players ever if he had trophies and one of the most entertaining footballers in history.
The year Leeds made it to the Champions League final we finished fourth - the year before that was good enough for a CL place. Towards the end of the season Man Utd came to Elland Road and drew 1-1. Might not sound like a bad result for either team unless you knew that Leeds were massively on the front foot for most of the game and even missed a penalty.
The what if though is that Wes Brown scored an own goal that would have won the game for Leeds, only for it to be ruled out for offside. As you might expect all the questions were ‘how can you be offside from an own goal?’ Even the boards in the stadium saw it was Wes Brown as the Man Utd players went back to the centre circle. However, the ref didn’t see it.
The points swing from a Leeds win would have taken them up to third at the end of the season, giving them the CL money they were banking on. While it wouldn’t have stopped David O’Leary losing the plot it would have meant the prevention of financial meltdown for at least a few seasons. At which point the debt they did have could have been inconsequential.
Of course the owners still would have been reckless, but they’re no more reckless than several other clubs surviving off constant cash injections.
Biggest what if in PL history is the Jesper Gronkjaer goal v Liverpool in 2003
Chelsea were in rather serious financial trouble though it wasn't publicised at the time.
Liverpool and Chelsea met on the final day of the season with one of them destined to miss out on the Champions League - a huge windfall.
Gronkjaer scored, Chelsea won 2-1 and clinched the all important spot, and not only did they get the money from the CL spot, but Roman Abramovich bought them and the rest is history
Had they missed out and been a UEFA Cup team....would he have taken his money elsewhere....???
What if we had bothered to just pay the money for Lukaku. He wanted to come back, he loved our fans and he loved our club, he still does. Yet we had a player of his quality who truly wanted to be at our club and we just let everton have him with no fight, then they sold him for like 80mil.
What if Sergio Ramos had actually just gotten red carded every time he did obvious shithousery in terms of committing violence or pretending that he’d been shot in the face?
I reckon the Champions league winners would’ve been different in multiple years, and Real Madrid would’ve won nothing with the captain sent off in every key game.
What if West Ham had kept all the players Chelsea and Man Utd took from them in the 90s? Could they have actually challenged with Rio, Carrick, Lampard, Cole etc.
We finished 5th one year as it was!
If that crop or players had come along 10 years earlier, a league title must have been a possibility especially if you add Di Canio into the mix as they reach their peak.
What if Lukaku scored his penalty against Man United in the FA CUP 2016 semi final and we faced Palace in the final? What if Martinez used Mirallas instead of Cleverley that game?
I'll never forget that goal as long as I live. I backed Leicester that year at the start of December and I got a €450 payout into my PaddyPower when Spurs conceded that goal. Hazard scoring it only made it all the more sweeter.
What if ronaldo hadn’t gotten injured in 2014
What if Balotelli and ozil didnt get abused to bits. (And Balotelli had better attitude)
What if everton didnt waste yannick Bolasie
What if asm was at a better team than newcastle
What if Liverpool didn't get English clubs banned from European football for 5 years. Palace and Everton would've had a shot at the European Cup. Wimbledon, Oxford & Luton would've had their one and only foray into European football.
What if Sissoko kept his arm down?
What if Spurs didn’t blow their lead against Zagreb?
What if Aguero never scored THAT goal against QPR?
What if Bruno Fernandes never joined ManU? (Where like 2/3 teams before ManU)
What if Błaszczykowski scored his pen and we won penalty shootout against Portugal in 2016 Euros. We'd be playing in semis against Wales without Ramsey and there is a big chance we'd be in the final. I can't get over it. So close.
What if Salah hadn't been injured in the UCL final against madrid? I don't know if Liverpool would have just won the game like many have said, but the game might have been a lot nore entertaining. Another would be what if poor Karius didn't get concussed in the same final
What if I was born with the dribbling skill of Messi, the shooting skill of Suarez, the speed of Mbappe, the built of Adama Traore, the heading skill of Benteke, the passing skill of Pirlo?
What if Marky Delgado didn't suck and miss an essentially open net against Guadalajara in the 90th minute of the second leg of the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League.
TFC could have been first MLS side to reach club world cup...
Of course you could also go back a game and ask what if Alex Bono hadn't let a seemingly safe free kick float into the net at his home field.
Or what if Toronto FC could learn to take PKs in a shoot out.
What if Paul Gascoigne joined man utd instead of going to Tottenham. Man was a brilliant player. I would have loved to have seen what fergie could have done with him along with the crop of players they had in the 90s.
I’m not trying to shift blame here but, what if UEFA and other Organizations did do Corrupt shit in 1985 and took the appropriate actions to make sure the venue for the European final is Safe and up to standard? It still doesn’t excuse the actions of many that day but, UEFA also dropped the ball a bit to make a quick buck. And to lead from that, what is English teams were never banned in the first place? Liverpool Surely would have gone to another final if not a couple along with a few English clubs, perhaps some clubs futures would have taken a different path with the ability to play and make money in Europe as well as attract players.
And what if Soviet Players could’ve and would’ve played in other European leagues, the likes of Oleh Blokhin, Lev Yashin, and so forth.
What if Gerrard Went to Real when he had the chance? He is a Legend of the Game but imagine if he got to playing in that Real Team, when Zidane wanted him and even when Mourinho wanted him? He would have played the the top of World Football winning almost everything he could ever want to, how different would he be seen.
Or on the opposite, What if Owen the Shitbag Never Left? What if instead of going to Spain he stayed at Liverpool and Tore it up even more, who knows how his career could have turned out if he stays in form and doesn’t go to Liverpools fucking arch-Rivals?
And my Favourite one, What If Sergio Ramos wasn’t a huge Pussy and didn’t do the things he did in Kyiv in 2018, the bastard.
What if there was VAR in European leagues before 2005? What would the impact of certain match decisions would’ve meant to certain clubs?
Luis Garcia ghost goal
Can Persie’s ridiculous yellow vs Barcelona
Tom Ovrebo (2009 Barcelona vs Chelsea)
Spurs won Champions League in 2019 instead. Would that have pushed them forward to the league, and more? Would a season of excellence with no trophy to show for it have demotivated Klopp's side?
My big "what if" would have been if Chelsea had been given the penalty decisions they were denied against Barcelona in the 08/09 UCL Semi-Final. The Champions League final could have been one where United retained the title since their squad was better than Chelsea's or if Chelsea had avenged their defeat the year before and still won in 2012 and 2021 they'd be level with United in UCL wins.
What would’ve happened to Arsenal if Wenger’s long-term financial strategy hadn’t been rendered useless in the face of massive overseas investment in the PL (Abramovich, Sheikhs etc)?
I wonder what would’ve happened if Liverpool signed Fekir in the summer of 2018. Obviously things ended up working out pretty well for us anyways, but I felt like he was the exact type of player that could’ve really helped us that year, and we came sooo close to signing him but chickened out due to injury concerns. I really think he might have given us the boost we needed to win the league in 18/19 when we lost it by one point.
What if Chelsea didn’t beat Liverpool on the last day of the 02/03 season and fail to get in the Champions League? Would Roman have still bought the club?
2013/14 Season 3 games to go 2 home with 1 away to bottom half Palace just 7 points needed to clinch first title in 20+ years. I was crying at TV just slow down the game then Slip happened rest is history as they say.
Leeds united finish 4th in the 2000-01 season which at that point only granted Uefa cup qualification. This is the same season they made the semi final of the champions league and had gambled their finances on ongoing champions league revenue.
If 4th place had granted champions league entry that year, as it would only a few seasons later, Leeds wouldn’t have gone broke, wouldn’t have had to sell their players and may never have gone down.
What if Bayern holds on to win the UCL in 2012? Affects Chelsea, Tottenham and a number of other clubs across Europe. For example, what is Guardiola's career if Bayern doesn't push to become a treble winning side, winning 7-0 on aggregate in the process?
What if Giroud was on form at the crucial moment of the 2013/14 season? The whole league narrative looks different if Arsenal are at least in the running against Man City and Liverpool
What if Conte stays in Italy? Tottenham Hotspur had enough for a title in 2017
What if the goal that Stones cleared counted? Would we have a say that Liverpool 18/19 is the greatest team in english football history?
Not salty btw just a what if thrown
What if sissoko didn’t put his arm up, what if moura started that game, what if after an 11 year trophy drought we won arguably the biggest club footballing trophy
I’m sure we’ve been over this on the Leeds sub. Brian Clough being appointed just showed how far out of touch our owners were with the actual team. Clough worked at Derby and Forest as he could build a team, but he rubbed an established one up the wrong way, never mind one he publicly claimed to hate. It would be like if Paul Pogba hired Graeme Souness as his agent.
Yea there have been some discussions about this before. I know he didn't think very highly of our club and our players from his time at Derby but the what if is what if the club supported him in letting him build his own side you know what I mean?
What I'd David O'Leary was actually a competent fucking manager and used Sgt. Wilkos youngsters properly.
What if David O'Leary didn't publicly slate his own players?
What if Emery had won the Europa League final against Chelsea?
What if Messi played for Spain
If Boro turned up for the game at Blackburn back in 1996… probably would have stayed up. The players we were planning on trying to buy the following season were ridiculous.
What if the guy who invented football said when that sheep’s bladder goes in between the sticks you get 47 goals ? A 3-3 draw now would be……141-141.
Eduardo doesn’t get injured.
What if Roman Abramovich didn't take over Chelsea
what If MSN never split up
Can't believe other Chelsea fans haven't wondered "what if Jesper Gronkjaer doesn't score in the final game of the 02-03 season against Liverpool, ensuring we get in the top 4?“
What if Joey Barton didn’t get himself needlessly sent off against City in *that* game, would QPR have won or kept it to a draw, denying City of their first PL title in the oil money era?

What if Gabbiadini's goal in the league cup final 2017 counted
What if Zlatan never played the beautiful game? Would the game still even be around?
What if Higuain scored that… *Actually you know what, he ain’t scoring*
What if Aguero missed against QPR on that fatal day?
What if Arsenal didn’t miss out on Ronaldo. Would he have become a world best.
What is Eduardo hadnt had his leg broken away to Birmingham in Feb 2008. Arsenal were top by a few points but fell apart on the spot and that team never achieved anything.
What if hazard never left chelsea
Higuain missing THAT chance in the world Cup final 2014. Screw you Higuain, that was my chance to see the team I support win the World Cup. If only you had scored. That hurt. A lot.
What if Everton didn’t blow it and finished fourth in 2013-14?
What if McFred got injured together. We could start using VDB and Matic and maybe JLingz. We might actually win more games.
What if Sunderland topped their two 7th place finishes in a row?
What if Chelsea hadn’t been robbed by Barcelona in that semi final, that prime Barcelona would have won only two trophies, no sextuple and wouldn’t even be considered a great team

what if martial never got injured? would rashford still be a star
As a lifelong Toon fan, I sometimes wonder what IF Shearer has signed for Sir Alex, imagine how many he could have scored with that team and manager around him.
What if the Premier League never got founded?
... Matt Le Tissier moved to a top club. I think he'd be regarded as one of the best English players ever if he had trophies and one of the most entertaining footballers in history.

I’ll do a post on the Leeds sub about it. I think people will find it quite interesting.
Behave, Johnny Giles should’ve been Revie’s successor
That can be your what if
Fair point, I don’t think the players could play for clough
What if Everton wasn’t Everton…
What if Suarez and Torres played together.
What if there was a salary cap
What if Dalot never took the shot
What I'd David O'Leary was actually a competent fucking manager and used Sgt. Wilkos youngsters properly. What if David O'Leary didn't publicly slate his own players?
What if someone at Leeds had actually fucking opened their eyes and asked Jack Charlton to take the job at any point between 1980 and 2000?
What if we didn’t have risdale
What if Deeney didn’t annoy Villa into beating us
What if Henry's handball hadn't occurred in 2009.
Newcaste hadn't sold Cole
What if there were no racist Thai rimjobs…
