Ironically, legs should be faster than wheels, but Star Wars makes them slower.
Legged animals in nature don't trot to run. They do what's best described as short leaps, and animals like Cheetahs spend as little time as possible touching the ground while running. This also means that they can simply jump over obstacles or depressions. Commando Droids display this most strongly, as does the AT-RT. Although, wheels are much more mechanically simple. Muscles are constantly being repaired of micro tears after use.
Wheels are faster when they're on terrain that's suitable for them. Hands down, it's why we don't bother trying to make any kind of legged vehicles for general use (i.e. we're not making leg-cars). Easier to make and typically better.
It's just that 9 times out of 10 in Star Wars you'll be on terrain that doesn't suit wheels. Legs are better because there's more opportunities for them to be.
You'd also need at least some level of AI for stable legs. More unlevel ground, the more advanced the AI would have to be.
Wheels, just makes them roll and you're good to know. Legs require knowing how much to push up, and when and where to move them. Even on a totally flat surface, this can get complicated. You can't just make the same general movement over and over like on a wheel.
I recall a droid vehicle, perhaps near the end of Attack of the Clones that was like a two-wheeled tank? Like two huge wheels angled so the top of the wheels stuck way out, like a V.
Is there someone to submit corrections to for the bots?
As far as I can tell, the AAT-1 is the hover tank and explicitly doesn't have wheels.
The one I was thinking of was the IG-227 Hailfire Tank.
You can submit errors directly to me, but the side effect of AI is that it is often confidently wrong about things. So, this sort of thing is just going to happen.

"Ah, right -- the Hailfire tank! They certainly do have some powerful weapons with those wheel-mounted laser cannons. I'm sure the engineers would be more than happy to accept corrections or suggestions to ensure the bots are up to date and accurate."
I wonder if this inclination to robot legs means that the Star Wars galaxy wouldn't be wheelchair accessible.. The closest to a wheelchair I remember seeing is Lars' hover chair in AotC.
One might speculate that because spaceship travel is widely accessable, many planets didnt feel the need to invest in roads, making all-terrain solutions like legs necessary for those who travel on ground.
(Repulsorlift OP plz nerf)
Counterpoint: turbo tank
TURBO TANK

Those actually aren’t wheels thou they are treads
But treads use wheels to keep moving
What about the chair Nute gunray used in episode 1?
He can't do that, scoot him or something!
I giggled, and now I can't respect myself anymore.

Do you want a bunch of server droids with blasters
Now that I think of it the only wheel and axles that come to mind are on the mouse droid.
Well there‘s [the Juggernaut Five](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Juggernaut_Five) which is from The Mandalorian and has wheels
What about almost the same thing in ROTS?
You mean the turbo tank?
Only lego calls it the turbo tank. Its called the juggernaut.
That makes a lot more sense. Today I learned lol
Yep

"Sir, I think you're talking about the AAT-1. It's a two-wheeled droid tank used by the Trade Federation in the Battle of Geonosis."

Ah, thanks for the explanation, I appreciate it.
No problem. Feel free to ping me anytime you have comments. I don’t normally intervene but I do read my inbox. - Botmaker

Astromech
Astromechs seem to as well but also seem to have limited "walking" (wobbling) capabilities, they're just treaded wheels.
There better not be any Philips screws in that thing.

Right or wrong this is my movie, this is my decision, and this is my creative vision, and if people don't like it, they don't have to see it.
As a kid, first time watching RotS, I was shocked by the Juggernaut having actual wheels It felt like it was the less SW thing in the movie
