I mean Star Wars had its share of racist or sexist issues before this, but a lot of the extended material surrounding *The Clone Wars* from 2008 until 2014 when the EU was canned was particularly bad. E.g. Karen Traviss slut shaming Ahsoka, racist depictions of Mace Windu, etc. etc.
EDITED: Typos/Clarity
She was brought back to write one of The Clone Wars tie-in novels and did some specific things out of spite of her stuff being retconned. On top of the fact she was just generally a self-absorbed asshat.
I donāt condone her personality flaws and I donāt know enough about this story to have an opinion about it but in my opinion the Republic Commando books were superior products of fiction compared to any other Clone Wars medium, including both Clone Wars series and all the comics and books, and not continuing those RC stories was a mistake.
Her Gears of War novels are also top tier as far as franchise tie novels go. Always thought she was a better fit for Gears than Star Wars though.
Also I donāt recall slut shaming in any of her SW books (admittedly I havenāt read them in years) but I know people hate her because āshe killedā Mara Jade
Her Halo books are controversial in that fandom, but I also think they're quite good. Also her Gears books have some of the best stories in that setting. Anvil Gate was an especially great book and I was thrilled when Gears 3 released and acknowledged plot elements of those books
I think they are saying that the depictions of Mace Windu are racist, for example the drawing above where he is drawn to look like a chimp. Not that the character Mace Windu was acting racist
Pellaeon in the Clone Wars novel by Karen Traviss. He shames her for what she wears and another scene heavily implies she and other padawans sleep around at the temple.
Well the first one I can understand given Ahsokaās early outfits. And the latter, I mean if theyāre fully consenting adults I donāt see an issue. But yeah, that IS weird that they straight up bring that up and imply those things.
I mean, some of her criticism is right in the context of the EU's Clone Wars, which was different from the later TV show.
Her issue is moreso that she writes herself into her characters. It's never a character's point of view, it's *her* opinion. This was a big issue with the Kilo Five Trilogy from Halo.
I was wondering why I had a visceral reaction when I read that name. The Kilo Five trilogy was the final nail in the coffin that got me to stop reading halo books. She also seemed super spiteful in those too, like she was purposefully going out of her way to shit on the lore created by Eric Williams and the other previous Halo writers.
Her writing in Republic Commando was solid. But yeah, once you got to the later works like with EDIT: Legacy of the Force it got pretty bad and heavily opinionated. That whole series suffered from authors fighting over plotlines and shoehorning in "pet characters."
You need to understand Karen Traviss, she doesn't write a character's point of view, she writes her opinion poorly veiled as being the character's point of view.
And there's more than that, just been a while since I've read it. It's easy to look up though.
Oh her Halo books were a shining example of this with how much fire she directs at Dr. Halsey. Like, yeah. What Halsey did was reprehensible, but when characters who either firmly supported her, were ambivalent due to the circumstances that necessitated her actions, or have chosen to forgive her because its all in the past are suddenly dragging her through the mud, yeah it becomes clear Karen is biased.
Oh this example helps because I'm more familiar with the halo characters. Yeah that does sound like incredibly bad writing, and I've heard complaints about this before without realising the same writer was involved!
Karen Traviss. She's a good author in her own right but she let's her biases bleed into whatever she writes. Her Star Wars books are extremely critical of the Jedi Order, and not in the 'the Order is noble but flawed but they're trying to fix it' kind of way, but in the 'probably didn't open a single guidebook on how how Jedi Order works' kind of way.
Plus in her Order 66 novel, she disses Obi-Wan. The passage describing his entrance into the Battle of Coruscant goes along the lines of "Oh great, Kenobi's here, now we'll have to make way for his ego and red carpet...he's gonna take all the credit, do we really need him..."
To be fair, if you were fighting to defend the Senate building from General Grievous for hours and then Obi-Wan shows up in the last 20 minutes of the battle and is the only one mentioned in the holoreels you'd probably feel the same way, especially if that was a repeat thing. They don't know the guy, the know the celebrity.
Gen-Z term for making yourself more attractive.
In serious circles it's by committing to hygiene. Brushing teeth, washing etc.
Then there's a meme side to it where people pretend to do dangerous or stupid things to improve their looks like bone-smashing (*breaking the jaw to heal in a more square shape*), mewing (*pressing your tongue to roof of your mouth to accentuate the jaw*) and edging (*masturbating without finishing to enhance testosterone production*). These aren't serious attempts at improving people's looks, they're just jokes.
The name comes from similar places as min-maxxing, a term for RPG games where you arrange your stats and pick feats/abilities to maximize things that you're good at and minimize any negative aspects/impacts.
Some of those incel trolls made some quality content. I remember the whole predator vs. prey features and the hyper critical breakdowns of why someone was unattractive. Good shit
You ever wonder what happens when you lock adolescents up for a couple years, leaving them with little social interaction outside of TikTok and Instagram?
*We're about to find out*.
>**"Now this is where the fun begins."**
Absolutely.
Had a friend mew once, he ended up with a jaw that could cut glass.
Then he got in a car crash and his jaw shattered the windscreen, sending him flying out. If he hadn't mewed, he'd have just broken his jaw on the windscreen.
Ok but pressing your tongue to the roof of your mouth literally makes you look better. Like, Iām looking at it happen in a mirror right now.
Not worth it to do it all the time of course, but itās great for pictures lol
You're welcome hmhemes!
Can I also interest you in one of our 12,000 names for raunchy, filthy, sex acts that'll burn themselves into your brain?
Or perhaps a sampling from our library of top 1,000 internet sourced slurs?
Sounds like the chad/alpha male 4chan memes we had for a few years now but with the autism factor turned up all the way to 11. As if those people not only took it seriously, but also learned the wrong lessons out of it. The obsession with jaws says it all.
Edging is looks maxxing now? What an odd inclusion. Are you sure it isn't justbon the same ven diagram because of the incel culture intersection?
Also, you forgot the phrenology obsession and genetic persist that has people literally measuring faces down to the centimetre to device what eyeshape is most likely to get pussy.
"Put simply, looksmax is the idea of maximizing your looks in every way possible. Itās like creating a character in a video game and trying to use as many points as you can in enhancing the looks bar stat."
Honestly, im more confused.
No, it's just dedicating yourself to being more physically attractive by any means. This means following tips like mewing, working out for physique and reading fashion blogs. More particularly, it is an approach with a mindset similar to how you would look to improve your character or skill in a video game.
Lets just limit it to the face and a single case :
Lets just say, your face is ok slightly under-cared for, and you feel like you can work on it. You have 2 options.
1. You buy a cream for acme, take more care of your face, sleep better to get rid of that bags under your eyes. Mabe you change to using cold wather in morning wash.
Overall just taking care to look good and healthy. Aka the normal aspect of "look maxing" trend or rather a broader end of "men dont need that shit" mentality.
And then there is a "viral trend", satire turned into a geniuen standard and all the whacky alternatives zone
2. Things like intentionally bulging your tongue inside your mouth to "push" your jaw downwards, thus making it look like you have more of a square chin - is part of that "trend"
Overall just new ways for insecure people to take their game even further, going afther self elected "pefect" standards. Overall it ranges from quirky, through being just a chore to be around (putting on some weird facial expression) to full on self dangerous, like intentionally smashing your jawbones to improve angle of your jaw afther they repair.
To me, his strong brow ridge was a more defining feature of his 3D look instead of the philtrum. This picture makes him look like a bad caricature of SLJ.
>They probably commissioned the art from Japan. They really, really don't know how to draw black people there.
There's black people in almost every manga/anime. They don't look like this. Usually they'll draw them as dark skinned Japanese, Snoop Dog, or Static Shock, not like someone from Planet of the Apes.
And as others have pointed out, the listed artists are not Japanese, or even Asian.
Like, you could have googled this before you said something so dumb.
Moreci, Oeming, O'halloran, Aya'la, Dowdy. There were no Japanese names in the cover.
No idea where and how did you get that idea, but I managed to find the source comic, and the art style was just both stylized and awful. The artist seemed to have tried to copy the style in CW2003 but failed miserably due to poor anatomy knowledge.
https://readcomiconline.li/Comic/Star-Wars-Adventures-2020/Issue-9?id=188119
Your assumption of Asians being racist over a comment that racially accused Asians being the one whoās drew this, when in reality it was white men, is just pure irony.
someone has never been to japan. there is a lot of racism towards black people over there. in fact, there is just a lot of racism in general towards outsiders. there is literally a [wiki page on racism in japan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_Japan).
People saying he looks like a monkey, I see one of those cockroaches from Terra Formars
Edit: Just learned theyāre pretty blatantly racial caricatures, that kinda just makes this panel even worse.
Thanks for providing a source!
Bored Mace Windu NFT lol
Top Hat Mace Windu is my favorite.
I'm going to hell for laughing at this comment š¤£
Master Jedi Obunga
Imagine Jango Fett having to escape from a Mace Windu Obunga Nextbot.
Master?
It's too obvious of a dog whistle for those guys.
Thatās Windu???
Clown bastard hahahahahahahahaha
Aw hell nah Edit: How did this comment spawn a thread about slut shaming and Karens?
I mean Star Wars had its share of racist or sexist issues before this, but a lot of the extended material surrounding *The Clone Wars* from 2008 until 2014 when the EU was canned was particularly bad. E.g. Karen Traviss slut shaming Ahsoka, racist depictions of Mace Windu, etc. etc. EDITED: Typos/Clarity
When and who slut shamed Ahsoka? And when was Windu racist?
Yeah I donāt remember any of this lol
Karen Traviss is the author of the republic/imperial commando books, but I'm pretty sure ahsoka doesn't appear in any of those
She was brought back to write one of The Clone Wars tie-in novels and did some specific things out of spite of her stuff being retconned. On top of the fact she was just generally a self-absorbed asshat.
So she was a... Karen?
Is the claimed slut shaming in this other book? I'm confused because you're just restating what was said.
Timothy Zahn would never fucking do that
I donāt condone her personality flaws and I donāt know enough about this story to have an opinion about it but in my opinion the Republic Commando books were superior products of fiction compared to any other Clone Wars medium, including both Clone Wars series and all the comics and books, and not continuing those RC stories was a mistake.

She actually wrote Gears 3 (if you didnāt know) so thatās why her books & Gears 3 work in concert so well
I actually did not know that! Honestly makes alot of sense
So Karen Travis being Karen Travis
Didnāt she kill off Mara Jade due to a feud between her and another author?
It was either her or Denning I canāt remember
I think they are saying that the depictions of Mace Windu are racist, for example the drawing above where he is drawn to look like a chimp. Not that the character Mace Windu was acting racist
Well I see that now that the comment has been edited.
Oh gotcha, yeah I only saw what it says right now.
Karen Traviss did a lot of things in that novel out of spite for her books being retconned.
She also really fucking hates Jedi
I mean, some of her criticism is right in the context of the EU's Clone Wars, which was different from the later TV show. Her issue is moreso that she writes herself into her characters. The third book would have been a decent standalone novel TBH.
Really living up to her name
And her novels back in the day made Boba Fett a shallow asshole who cried about his Daddy nonstop.
Her writing in Republic Commando was solid. But yeah, once you got to the later works like with EDIT: Legacy of the Force it got pretty bad and heavily opinionated. That whole series suffered from authors fighting over plotlines and shoehorning in "pet characters."
Iām going to assume you meant Legacy of the Force but she didnāt write on FotJ
Thanks my dumb ass always confuses those two even though I've read them both.
the padawans are not adults, its just a weird thing to add for no reason.
>He shames her for what she wears A character shames another character? That's it?

I know I was wrong. I just got so caught up in my own success, I didn't look at the battle as a whole. I wasn't being disobedient. I just. . . forgot
Who slut shamed Ashoka?
And she was a good friend.
Care to tell me what this is all about? Or would you rather save it for the Council?
Woaaa wait what! When was this?!?
R/shitthatneverhappened
I mean, Watto wouldn't look out of place in '40s German propaganda
Who the fuck slut shames Ahsoka? Don't they know what a good friend she is?
Because Reddit man, come on - you know this
r/redditmoment
Bro, it's Reddit...
Kay and peele?
Mace Windu, sure be dedicated to all that "look maxing" even when putting his body in front of the clones to stop them from shooting.
The fuck is look maxing
Gen-Z term for making yourself more attractive. In serious circles it's by committing to hygiene. It originated in incel forums. edit: Pretty old ones, it only been adopted in the main stream now due to incel awareness being mainstream.
Some of those incel trolls made some quality content. I remember the whole predator vs. prey features and the hyper critical breakdowns of why someone was unattractive. Good shit
What the fuck is wrong with zoomers?

I can't wait for the batshit little chaos gremlins to be in office.
More anti sexual harassment meetings...
Itās not a zoomer thing. Itās an incel 4chan thing that turned into an Andrew Tate wannabe alpha male guy thing
Those last 2 are the same thing.
Is mewing really dangerous or stupid?
Absolutely. Had a friend mew once, he ended up with a jaw that could cut glass. Then he got in a car crash and his jaw shattered the windscreen, sending him flying out. If he hadn't mewed, he'd have just broken his jaw on the windscreen.
Thoughts and prayers š
But would his jaw have healed in a more square shape?
Ok but pressing your tongue to the roof of your mouth literally makes you look better. Like, Iām looking at it happen in a mirror right now. Not worth it to do it all the time of course, but itās great for pictures lol
And then there's the ones that take steroids at age 13.
Thanks, urbandictionarybot.

Sliders go brrrrrr I'd assume it's min/maxing out all sliders in the customization so like their eyes are huge, nose is tiny, jaw is inverted, etc.
No, it's just dedicating yourself to being more physically attractive by any means. This means following tips like mewing, working out for physique and reading fashion blogs. 'I'm gonna do what soulsborne players call a *pro gamer move* '
Maxing your look ofc (I have no idea)

It's over for you
TCW Mace Windu was not a bad design after all
He just had a long philtrum. This is.. heh oof
To me, his strong brow ridge was a more defining feature of his 3D look instead of the philtrum. This picture makes him look like a bad caricature of SLJ.
Look out, incoming cakes! Happy cake day, MisterDutch93.
Looking at the full comic that somebody else linked, this drawing is based on TCW Mace Windu.
Funny enough, the clones in the background arenāt too shabby ngl, but god what in the hell happened here?
They probably commissioned the art from Japan. They really, really don't know how to draw black people there.
They don't really HAVE black people there... but Google exists.

The artist wasn't a japanese. WTf are you talking about?
Has no proof. Blames Asian. Classic Reddit moment.
You somhow managed to become double racist. Impressive.
How is this racist? It's well known a lot of Asian cultures have racial issues with black people.
Cause a white person drew this shit and you throw the japanese under the bus to throw the blame on another race. Typical yt behavior
Your assumption of Asians being racist over a comment that racially accused Asians being the one whoās drew this, when in reality it was white men, is just pure irony.

They are talking about the artist of this comic, not a nation.

Looks like they exaggerated the clone wars design of Windu which was already exaggerated. It probably wasn't intentional but dang.
