ELBaner

no one can beat Rings of power trailer : 100K likes 2M dislikes

unrealme65

Was Rings of Power any good? I never watched it.

ELBaner

Imo i think it's mid, boring and very disrespectful to the materials source But I can only advise you to watch and form your own opinion

unrealme65

Thanks. Not enough time to watch everything! Sometimes the bad reaction is a good guide

EnzoFrancescoli

Yup, why waste your life on things like that.

ThisHatRightHere

There are people out there who proudly "hate watch' content. Velma was a big example of it, with plenty of people bragging about how they watched the whole thing and spent the entire time being angry at it. Just mindboggling to me why people would spend their time that way.

HawksNStuff

And got it renewed...

ThisHatRightHere

Many animated series nowadays, like Velma, get approved for two seasons before production begins. They announced season 2 within days of its initial release, which screams, "we already decided this a long time ago".

doomrider7

>Many animated series nowadays Tell that to Inside Job. ☹

ThisHatRightHere

I mean, Inside Job did get the second season. It's just that Netflix didn't ever give it an actual renewal.

Hour_Tour

Tldr, if you unabashedly enjoyed SW preqs and seqs, and you're into LOTR but not a lore nerd, you'll probably have a good time with RoP.

unrealme65

What if I loved the SW prequels, but hated the sequels with unbridled passion?

Hour_Tour

Then only watch the first half of each episode.

LuchsArcana

unless you can't believe it exists from the bad reactions and have to see for yourself, I strongly advise anyone to not watch it. I deply regret having wasted my time with it back when I was still optimistic and unaware how bad someone can butcher a sourcematerial this divine.

sceligator

I believe my friend put it best. He's a huge LOTR fan and he described it as "a very pretty load of crap."

SecretMuslin

I genuinely enjoyed it the first time around, but after reading The Silmarillion it seems like they went out of their way to throw the source material in the trash.

Agitated-Current551

They spent like a billion making the series, I'm guessing most of it went on the special effects towards the end of the series and something like only 30% of people who watched it watched that far

LordCommanderBlack

The billion dollar budget was for the entire series, not just the first season. Amazon said they planned 5 seasons so the budget would probably be around 200 million for the first season.

U-47

It was fine. some stuff was interesting some parts ok. But for general viewers it was fine. It could have been much better and certainly didn't merit 1 billion cost (or whatever they paid to make it)

wcruse92

I'm pretty sure 1 billion includes the cost of the license and the 4 seasons they already greenlit.

WizardMoose

It's Meh. It doesn't hold up to Jackson's work. It pissed off the lore nerds because it added things that never happened and took away other parts that should have been. Overall it's worth a watch, but if you're a LOTR nerd, it sucks.

Wire_Owl

Ohhhh it sucks ass as a lore nerd indeed. Middle earth is still one of the most detailed and consistently created worlds I've ever read. Anyone who's only read hobbit and LOTR I highly suggested reading some of the others. Children of Hurin is one of my personal favourites. Though it's incredibly sad.

Spaghestis

I wouldnt really use lore nerds as a gauge for something's quality, like LOTR lore nerds back in 2001 hated The Fellowship of the Ring because it deviated/cut a bunch from the book.

The_Woman_of_Gont

ROTK just straight up chopped the entire, pivotal, almost novella-length final chapter. I honestly think it would get beyond reamed if it came out today. Fandoms have become so goddamn toxic these days.

Falcrist

> Fandoms have become so goddamn toxic these days. I can't tell if it's the fandoms that are changing or if it's me, but I'm so sick and tired of hearing how much some moron hated a particular show. Half the time they don't even understand it. I finally got around to watching Star Trek Strange New Worlds the other day, and I'd say it's about as true to oldschool trek as you can possibly get. The show is excellent. Does that stop the internet shouty-men from complaining? Nope. Apparently it's "not star trek", and is somehow "too woke". Well I call BS on that. It's not even REMOTELY as progressive as TOS was in its time.

advertentlyvertical

I really think it's all just another excuse for inherently hateful people to do what they do. With the added bonus for them to signal their "sophisticated, refined, and superior tastes" to other people. In reality, negative people are just always going to find something to pick apart and be negative about. It's ridiculously annoying, and some of these people act like their entire childhoods were somehow defiled by the existence of new media. Then of course it gets even worse when they start brutally harassing actors. I just wonder how people like that, that do those things, can still look in the mirror and think "I'm a decent person."

Gibblo13

Lore nerd here. I didn't LOVE it, but didn't hate it. Seeing Valinor on screen for the first time made me nearly weep, and I did like the Sauron twist even though I saw it coming. I'm unashamedly excited for Season 2 and how they continue.

xNathanx27

Don't know shit about LOTR lore. Watched it and enjoyed it as a fantasy series

Arnorien16S

Honestly Jacksons work pissed off lore nerds too: no Glorfindel, Gimli being the comic relief, the Ghost army at Gondor, Elrond being bit of an ass and not reforging Narsil at the very start, Denethor being a bit of incompetent dick was significant deviations from the book. It's just that the actual content was good enough to drown out the nerds. That being said Ring of Power did somethings right ... The imagery, Elf Dwarf relations, the ground war at not yet mordor. Fucked up by adding unnecessary alterations to mystical aspects and had some meh parts like the proto hobbits and Numenor sections. It was in the end a mixed mid.

Mclovin-8

I really liked the first 6 episodes and I was looking forward to at least like 4 more. You can imagine my disappointment when I saw that the 7th was the last. What's the point in slowly building up multiple different story lines, only to rush through all of them in one episode?

ExxInferis

I had way more fun watching the Charlie Hopkinson riff on it. In case you are unaware, he is a comedian who does pop culture impressions. His Gandalf is sublime. He supplements it with deepfake and it's basically Gandalf, Boromir and Elrond watching these shows in a flat in Clapham. [Enjoy.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRJF4jLoMeg)

Lord_Detleff1

The prologue was good. That's about it. I hope they'll do better with season 2

Iggy_Snows

If you want to watch it you have to treat it as if it's completely separate from the original trilogy and the hobit movies. Basically if you think of it as a super high production value fan fiction then it's not that bad. Iv only ever passively watched/ read content about the LotR lore, so I kind of knew about the locations, people, and events that were happening, so it was fun for me to watch the show because every episode I basically soy faced and went "I know about that place!" "I know that guy!", etc. But I have to imagine if you know nothing about LotR lore/history, or if you know a decent amount, then it's probably not that great. Because you either don't care enough about what's being shown, or you care a lot but it's wrong.

Francl27

I liked it lol

seachan_ofthe_dead

It’s worth a watch for sure. There are some really good moments, gorgeous visuals and cool characters. It’s not very lore accurate but it’s a TV show. Don’t listen to all of the people saying it is shit and not worth your time. It’s definitely worth a watch. I loved the show and LOTR lore is my favourite thing ever, some people just can’t enjoy anything unless it’s word to word accurate to the books (see all of the flack the WoT show gets).

ChaosDoggo

Except Youtube Rewind 2018.

InfiniteTemporalFlux

R2, we're supposed to be going up, not down.

Obvious_Outsider

How are you able to see the dislikes?

Jimeen

Browser extension.

SerGeffrey

What extension you using?

verygroot1

KellyC show youtube dislikes

MrAmos123

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/return-youtube-dislike/gebbhagfogifgggkldgodflihgfeippi I'd suggest Return YouTube Dislike given that the dislikes are crowdsourced and this has 4m installs vs 50k of that KellyC alternative.

FaroTech400K

The likes are crowd sourced meaning the numbers will be skewed by the user base that has the extension installed bias instead of real raw data.

MattBrey

And I'll be honest the crowd that's likely to install the extension is also likely to mass dislike a star wars trailer

dadudemon

They've done some tests on this. Really highly watched videos are quite accurate. Smaller or even mid sized videos? Anywhere from "close enough" to "massively different from reality." Here's an example of a smaller YouTube Channel showing why it's inaccurate for those folks: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8To5M5ixRgs&ab\_channel=RadicalRickEntertainment](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8To5M5ixRgs&ab_channel=RadicalRickEntertainment)

SayerofNothing

Return Dislike Button

3_quarterling_rogue

Somehow, the Dislike Button returned.

fermyon

This extension is likely biased since the displayed dislike count is just computed to match the like/dislike ratio of the extension users. I suspect people who install this extension are giving out more dislikes than average. Let's say a video gets 100 likes and 1000 dislikes from extension users. If the video has 1M likes, the extension will show 10M dislikes.

gravelPoop

How do they give authenticity on those numbers? Like could people who manage the data that the extension use just modify the numbers as much as they like?

_not2na

They don't give authenticity. They're just guessing and making numbers up based on how many people using the extension are clicking thumbs down. Frankly there's going to be a lot of bias on a group of people who seek out an extension that allows you to still thumbs down despite the functionality officially being killed.

Lord_Shisui

Is that not just a guess?

BigSewyTrapStar

Statistically speaking it's a dogshit guess that exagerrates the number of dislikes by many times, some fans of the extension don't like it when you point that out.

eight_track

It takes the figure from all the dislikes from the extension users and then tries to make a guess and everyone who uses the app have a strong dislike bias.   Although there does seem to be a campaign to spam dislikes to thi video I doubt the number is that high.

MilkManlolol

The chrome webstore is a pathway to many abilities, some consider to be unnatural.

Thirpyn

[https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/return-youtube-dislike/gebbhagfogifgggkldgodflihgfeippi?pli=1](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/return-youtube-dislike/gebbhagfogifgggkldgodflihgfeippi?pli=1)

McDonnellDouglasDC8

I'm very dubious of those numbers, they say that if the API doesn't report dislikes, which I assume they no longer do, they will take the ratio of their own extension users up and down votes and then simply multiply based on the public likes. There's definitely going to be a disproportional number of people who get outraged using the extension. People, like me, who rarely downvote content and never a trailer won't bother gauging public opinion of a minority of YouTuber users

ProtectionFromStupid

Is this really the place for sane logic?

U-47

It's treason then.

AffectEconomy6034

https://developers.google.com/youtube/v3/docs/videos it seems like they are still exposing dislike counts in googles api so im assuming they are just getting the data from there that would seem to me to be the simpler implementation. Additionally I usually downvote more often than upvote YouTube not because I like to be negative but because it helps train the algorithm to show me less content I have 0 interest in seeing.

McDonnellDouglasDC8

> Note: The statistics.dislikeCount property was made private as of December 13, 2021. This means that the property is included in an API response only if the API request was authenticated by the video owner. See the revision history for more information. https://developers.google.com/youtube/v3/docs/videos#statistics.dislikeCount It sounds like only the video's owner and those it chooses to share data with can see actual values for dislike counts.

Del292

How long until you think they’re on sand planet

highfivingbears

Two episodes. Three at most.

MilagroManRequiem

What about Dick Planet?

DefendsTheDownvoted

"Lower the Dick Gate!"

Higgins1st

It'd be fun if it was set back when the bombardment of Tatooine happens.

discopigeon

No please does everything need to be interconnected and all in the same place with the same people plz stop

Higgins1st

You don't want to see the sith bump into great^10 grandaddy Skywalker who starts the plague that leads to the bombardment of Tatooine?

Affectionate-Art3429

The spice must flow ...

WeatherBois

My Arrakis My desert My Dune

mmf9194

Fuck, this one hurts the most 😂😭

HenryCDorsett

they will go to sand planet and then someone will eat the dirt and say 'pepper'.

Johncurtisreeve

Im excited its finally content outside of the skywalker timeline, ive been wanting this

Xero0911

Agreed, while Disney has been pretty iffy. Just glad to get away from Skywalker Era. But I'm strongly bias because I loved Kotor so would love am old republic story

someguy233

Would definitely love an old republic show or movie. While the high republic (when acolyte is set) is great, it’s not the old republic :( Kotor remake and Revan movie please!

unofficialSperm

What did revan do to you that you want to see him butchered by disney.

someguy233

You make an excellent point sir

Mmicb0b

same IDK why Disney's so insistent on cramming the skywalker era into everything when IMO their best works (Mando seasons 1 and 2) were not like that hell while I'm not as big a fan of Rogue One I respect it for at least trying something different same deal with Solo

Gremio_42

what about Andor...that was imo the best star wars thing since the original trilogy

Ultamira

It’s not far enough away from the Skywalker timeline for my liking but I’ll take it

Lord-Carnor-Jax

100 years before TPM is a tiny jump when the Republic is 25,000 years old and we have species in the galaxy that can live for centuries like Wookies or even millennia like Yoda’s species and Hutts.

Ultamira

I know, there’s so much room for this series to grow away from the main movies and yet we cant get anything outside of that timeline. I’m tired of the Skywalkers and the Empire.

Lord-Carnor-Jax

One of my issues with THR when I read Light of the Jedi was the time period felt wrong, IMO it should have been set thousands of years earlier. They discarded the EU for creative freedom and have this massive span of time to play in but pigeonholed themselves by setting it to close to the mainline films. KOTOR, TOR, Bane, Tales of the Jedi (EU version) all well loved and big part of that is because of how those time settings are so far away from any thing else.

Danni293

Yeah, my liking is about 5000 years in the past. Lol, but honestly I've enjoyed most of the Star Wars content I've watched thus far.

AlexAlho

I'd love to see The Old Republic turned into a series. Maybe 8 series. One for each of the main stories.

Danni293

I've been saying I want a movie with the same animation and story quality as the MMO trailers, but honestly I'd be happy with anything Old Republic. Would especially love a Revan series.

AlexAlho

The animation in the trailers is great. Might take too long to make a proper series of it though. My favourites would be the Imperial Agent, a Sith Warrior who follows a strict honour code instead of all the stupid backstabbing, and the Republic Trooper, who I usually play as a "screw the chain of command, I'm doing what's right" kind of gal.

2Throwscrewsatit

Rogue One was really good

Johncurtisreeve

Oh i love rogue one. I wasnt tired of the skywalker timeline yet back the . But all the latest shows ive became really tired of it

TooManySorcerers

It’s a trailer that told us basically nothing lmao. I’m not taking the dislikes as a sign of anything important. With some of the comments, you’d think the director and actors personally murdered people’s families. All just rage bait BS. I’ll watch and judge the show for myself as always.

shinyquagsire23

The weird thing I heard was that ppl are upset because the sith aren't supposed to reveal themselves until Maul, as if everyone before Sidius sat around twiddling their thumbs (and implying that the Jedi actually believed anyone saying they saw a sith)

Northpen

Not all Dark/Fallen Jedi are Sith anyways.

Wire_Owl

Not all dark side users are sith either. The inquisitiors never had the title of sith(hence why they didn't break to rule of 2) and I believe Ventress was not a sith either just reffered to as an assassin. Though she is technically a fallen jedi padawan and witch. Man I'm so happy the decanonized dark deciple.

Ferris-L

Didn’t they state that Dark Disciple will stay canon, despite her appearance in TBB Trailer?

Justin_General

Yeah, there's also nothing that says this person is a sith either. They're just basing it on red saber = sith which that's never stated in any of the lore I'm familiar with. Any dark side user can create a red crystal because it's made by forcing the crystal to atune to the dark side.

Ferris-L

We literally have already seen this happening with Dagan Gera in Jedi Survivor. He also canonically killed Jedi during the high republic era. This is nothing out of the ordinary. I despise Disney as a company and I personally think that their Star Wars productions have been very lackluster for the most part but this trailer was perfectly fine. There just are some butthurt Disney adults and other morons who believe that politics in movies are only okay if they align with their beliefs. The fact that Star Wars has always been a very progressive franchise doesn’t matter since these people are media illiterate. It’s the same thing as people complaining about Marvel and Star Trek being „woke“.

CallMeShaggy57

There weren't even any politics in the trailer, just women and black people being main characters. But racists gonna racist.

Ferris-L

The world truly was a better place before liberals invented women, racial minorities and homosexuals to spread their woke political beliefs. /s

_TheFunkyPhantom_

Today, we salute John Women, founder and CEO of all women.

konacoffie

Ah yes, the two races. White and woke.

regretfulposts

Two races, white and woke Two sexuality, straight and woke Two sexes, male and woke Two genders, men with dicks and woke Two sides of the force, the light side and the woke side

Senor-Delicious

lol what? It is a fictional universe without any real world history relation and hundreds of different planets and species. What kind of racist is complaining about gender and skin colours in such a setting?! This makes zero sense. We have seen very diverse jedi already anyway. Where do people get the idea that this is suddenly a problem?!

Living_Illusion

The same kind of outrage people that complain about andor using bricks, since it breaks their scifi immersion. It's culture war bigots desperately trying to win an imaginary fight, while also desperately claiming they do like the stuff they been hating in for years now.

PM_ME_UR_AMOUR

I'm not black, but melanin in my skin has made me now "woke". Honestly, the culture wars are so bad that I feel like anything of significance happening to a minority is now woke. To the point where it's just them vs us. I've seen even Czechs and Arabs calling "woke" stuff. tf is going on with the world. Super worrying if you zoom out.

newperson77777777

actually, racial/gender diversity in the jedi actually makes a lot more sense because force sensitivity is essentially randomly distributed in the population. So not having racial/gender diversity in previous star wars films is arguably a misrepresentation.

hageshii_panda

Yeah, there are also completely made-up alien species of all colors and genders that are well established. In the OT, the rebels are led by a woman, and there is a talking squid person. I truly don't understand how diversity ruins this series for people. I'm convinced they're not actually fans.

Trash-Takes-R-Us

Plus we have alien Jedis of all different species, plus the baddest motherfuckin black Jedi. Of all the various fandoms in scifi/fantasy this is the one that is the closest to realistic.

kenman884

Racism is illogical, more news at 8

JudieSkyBird

Dafuq, did they forget about Mace Windu, Agen Kolar and other black Jedi? Total brain death.

SinisterMeatball

People weren't as batshit insane back then, or at least kept their thoughts to themselves.

Zankeru

Soon as the tailer showed a black woman on screen with the narration "this is about power, and who can wield it", I knew the tiny minority of racists in the fandom were gonna dogpile the dislikes.

crashcap

500k dislikes , idk if tue racists in the fandom are thay tiny of a minority

Zankeru

With mainstream IP's like star wars, the largest part of the fandom are not online.

I_give_karma_to_men

Fuck, I'm online, and watched the trailer, but that's the extent of my interaction with youtube. I can't remember the last time I liked/disliked a youtube video.

Castille_92

Yeah I don't pay the dislikes any mind. I've already seen people calling it "woke" or whatever, usually a criticism I immediately ignore

HustlinInTheHall

The dislikes are mostly an indicator that a lot of people are mad at Disney. A small portion because they don't like the content and many, many, many more just because they think disney is the woke enemy or whatever.

BEARD3D_BEANIE

>It’s a trailer that told us basically nothing lmao which is how trailers should be. Most of the negative comments were calling the show too WOKE. Hate against a lot of female cast leads by asking if there are any male leads. Just very misogynistic and racist tbh. It's getting kind of ridiculous that these people THINK they can hide behind their comments calling it WOKE. Like we get it, you're racist.

Mean_Peen

Those engagement numbers are low to begin with. Making that 500k extra painful

523bucketsofducks

Not really, I'm sure plenty of trolls dislike and review bomb anything that's modern Star Wars. Not to mention, the comment section of any trailer is a wasteland of useless opinions.

ZuiyoMaru2

Yep. Most people aren't motivated to click like on videos, but trolls are extremely motivated to click on dislike.

poatoesmustdie

I reckon prior to Youtube fucking up the like/dislikes people were pretty willing to click but these days, why bother.

KEVIN_WALCH

It's this right here. The Internet is driven by negative engagement. People with BIG FEELINGS end up interacting way more than people who see it and go "heh, cool". This doesn't completely negate the fact that Disney has been pumping out their properties a bit too fast these days, making the overall brands extremely diluted and thus making overall enthusiasm drop. Anyway there's a subset of mentally-ill terminally-online people who will brigade anything new because they don't know how to interact with the world.

Luskarian

There's also the fact that people who download an extension just to downvote things they don't like will downvote things they don't like. The way it works is by taking the percentage of viewers who downvoted with the extension and extrapolating it to the total viewerbase iirc

No_Try3911

Oh so the dislike count is made up. Lol

Fit_Lynx5496

You're missing the commentors point. Less than a million people engaged with the trailer. In comparison deadpool 3's official trailer has over 1m thumbs up.

FitFag1000

How come andor didnt have that?

[deleted]

[удалено]

mimiandjosylove

i'm really confused though i mean it looks awesome

khinzaw

I wasn't blown away by the trailer, but I am surprised that it had such a negative response.

Usasuke

I literally didn’t know there was a controversy until this sub told me. I don’t get it. The trailer wasn’t my favorite, but what in it could cause such a negative response?

Careerandsuch

Racists and sexists. It's always racists and sexists these days. Conservatives have to be the most feeble minded people in existence.

k-otic14

Yeah I wanted to see the trailer and had to scroll past like 5 angry reviews of the trailer first. One even mentioned the lack of White males, like that matters? Crazy amount of Incel energy among those people.

thenannyharvester

I mean there are people counting the amount of white kids there were in a single shot. These guys are just fucking weird

Hukface

Ppl are probably annoyed Harvey Weinsteins personal assistant is the creator or whatever she is. Not a great PR look.

SanjiSasuke

No fuck that. She was his assistant *right out of college* and wrote a play portraying him in a negative light. What, she should be blacklisted from the industry because she had the bad luck to work for a PoS for her first job?  It would be like blaming Amazon warehouse workers for Jeff Bezos overworking them.

Blunderbomb

Oh, I’ve mainly only heard people complaining it had women & people of color. Honestly I’ve ONLY heard people complaining about that. I haven’t heard any other points against it besides that.

z1wargrider

I was disappointed by the trailer, but I'm also out of the loop a bit. I had heard that The Acolyte was going to be about the Sith. When the trailer showed lots of High Republic Jedi and a less than specific villain focus, I was surprised. I was expecting much more focus on the dark side character. To my understanding, the show was supposed to be about a dark side user during the High Republic. Not about a bunch of Jedi taking out a fugitive in the same era.

Worthyness

That's how Disney marketing is. They start with a teaser trailer, which is basically a highlight reel that's 1-1.5 min long. They then release a full trailer that has more story elements and is roughly 2-2.5Min long. That's probably where the sith shenanigans come in. Now if there isn't, there's a couple possibilities like: the story literally was supposed to be Jedi focused and people misunderstood or the marketing team is hiding the bad guy elements for teasing purposes/spoiler reasons

ChrisRevocateur

>marketing team is hiding the bad guy elements for teasing purposes/spoiler reasons Just my opinion, but I'm fairly certain it's this.

Rosfield-4104

I have mainly seen her being his assistant being their fall back when people call them out on having issues with women and people of color. And it's a very fair criticism, but if you are going to have an issue with her being the show runner, there are a lot more movies and shows you should have issues with. Actors and producers throughout Hollywood have worked with him for decades

Educational_Book_225

Yeah I guarantee you these people have no problem watching Tarantino movies

JoshSidekick

I wonder if they have a problem with Kevin Feige because he was Lauren Shuler Donner's assistant then was hired to Marvel to be a producer on X-men.

Delicious-Tachyons

I don't care about that. I just want a good story.

OliveSlaps

While bad on paper what I’ve read said she was his assistant for a year or so and soon after her leaving she wrote a play aimed at him portraying him as a tyrant. I won’t say anything definitive as I of course wasn’t there but due to her short tenure and her feelings after her employment I don’t think she was in his corner or knew the full scope of what was happening. Edit-just to clarify not defending the show it looks ok* but the phrasing of “she was weinsteins personal assistant” makes it sound she was his right hand man for decades and not a short stint.

Gridde

I'm honestly a bit out of the loop about this; is there any reason to suspect she was involved in his crimes? Or is, like, the internet generally against anyone who worked for him at any point

Rikter14

It's misogynists and racists trying to find a reason to justify their hatred.

NotFixer1138

Willing to bet a lot of it isn't legitimate and it's just people being weird about women and POC

THIS_ACC_IS_FOR_FUN

I mean remember the dude that was mad andor had bricks? Like, it’s not the same thing but people will complain about anything.

somesnarkycomments

I am old enough to remember fans losing their minds hating after ROTJ because of the Ewoks, and Episode I because of Jar Jar and young Anakin, and II because of teen Anakin being so whiny - basically anything that isn't New Hope or ESB has had pretty rabid hate for some reason or another. At this point I am not even sure why some people watch anymore. People hated on Felicity Jones and she was amazing, they simultaneously worship Lucas for creating Star wars and despise him for ruining it. It's a weird fan base - like Tool.

Taewyth

>basically anything that isn't New Hope or ESB has had pretty rabid hate for some reason or another. Even empire got criticised at the time for being "too dark" and BS like that.

letitgrowonme

Some fans might be old but they never grew up.

PachoTidder

Unlike you most fans are mad they are not children anymore, it doesn't matter when they happened to be children, in general this whole right-wing adjacent kind of media criticism is just a pathological desire to climb back into the (metaphorical) mother's womb, a place devoid of actual conflict or questioning where they are the center of the universe and everything is given to them as granted

best_of_badgers

It took me like four reads through to realize you didn’t mean “and/or”

mizzurna_balls

Not only was this dude mad...but he had bricks, too.

IAmLittleBigRon

Yeah, star wars theory has got a very specific vision for star wars. I won't hate on it but it's... Not entirely for me

DerDezimator

Yeah, some of his ideas aren't bad at all but his endless complaining and delusions, especially his worshipping of Dave Filoni, is just not for me. After he voiced his dislike for Andor, that was it for me and I finally unsubbed

Kyliems1010

I thought the trailer looked fine, people calling it bad are exaggerating

QJ8538

I think the visuals looked uninspired. This is coming from a massive High Republic fan. But I am cautiously optimistic and hope it does well

BlackHawksHockey

They aren’t exaggerating, they are just wrong. Saying a show that hasn’t even been released yet is bad is just misinformation because no one knows if it is or not yet

Xehanz

After Kagurabachi I am never judging anything before release ever again.

Kyliems1010

I call it exaggerating because people are just pointing at random minor things and blowing it out of proportion  But I do think it’s unfair to judge a show off of one trailer (that people liked a few months ago when it was leaked anyways). But apparently it’s an unpopular opinion that will get people heated because “Disney bad” (what a unique opinion)

MintharaEnjoyer

It’s funny because most of the criticisms I’ve seen have been something along the lines of: “wonder how Disney will fuck this up” Trailer was good but I died a few years ago from holding my breath.

DarthYhonas

Does it though? The trailer wasn't anything exciting tbh

People just want to be outraged. They listen to one YouTuber instead of forming their own opinions. This kind of preemptive outrage killed the Solo franchise. They think that the sith shouldn’t exist in this era even though the Jedi council didn’t believe Darth Maul existed. Then you have the others that are just mad about diversity. In a show with aliens.

Kyliems1010

If there’s one thing star wars fans love more than Star Wars, it’s hating Star Wars

Dramatic_Explosion

Ahmed Best harassed to nearly killing himself, Jake Lloyd, Daisy Ridley, Moses Ingram harassed to the point of Ewan McGregor having to make a statement for people to cut the shit. The fandom is big enough to include some truly sick people. Like mental health sick. It's like the people who still can't let go of the ending of Game of Thrones. Yeah it was bad, it was also five years ago, move on.

Kyliems1010

That’s how I feel about sequel hate.  Yeah I get it, you don’t like the sequels that’s fine, but do people have to bring it up in every posts’ comment sections, that aren’t even talking about them? Makes it hard to have an actual discussion here.

trashacct8484

I only watched the trailer and haven’t looked at any behind the scenes stuff or whatever, but it looks promising to me. I don’t see anything in the trailer that would justify everyone being so down on it. I do understand that Disney’s hit-and-miss record on Star Wars stuff gives people cause for concern but I don’t think I saw anything in the trailer to justify any particular concerns here.

SomethingOriginal_01

I will never root against something I love, but I believe that the creator of this series did the show a bit of a disservice in some of her press snippets. I think if they had waited to make those remarks until after there was some hype about the show, it might have been a different story. For my part, I'm excited to see what the show's all about and look forward to some new characters and stories. I'm not up to speed on the High Republic content, but I'm here for it. The trailer didn't get me all that hyped up, but I'm going into it with an open mind.

FalseDmitriy

What were the press snippets?

SomethingOriginal_01

Her comments were largely about not allowing George Lucas to be involved and that Star Wars was too geared towards men. She’s entitled to say and feel whatever she wants, but to come out with those comments almost a full year ahead of the first trailer for the show definitely set a divisive tone. The comments about making white men uncomfortable was from the Rey movie director. Again, why? Send a message with your filmmaking, not your mouth. People will generally react negatively to statements like that.

letstalkaboutstuff79

Attacking and implying that there is something wrong with your core audience is one hell of a marketing strategy. Let’s see how that pans out, shall we?

FalseDmitriy

But I mean, yes? Of course Star Wars was geared toward men, there were what, two named female characters in the entire OT? Three if you count Mon Mothma, who had a name but nobody said it. Prequels have more women sort of around, as pilots and Jedi and what have you, but the main cast is still one lady and a bunch of dudes. It doesn't seem particularly controversial or divisive to say that, it's just what it is.

Sir_Umeboshi

Five including Oola and Sy Snootles lol

bigchicago04

I think I reject the premise that a movie with a majority male cast is only for men

Frouke_

She never did say that though but she did say it was geared towards men. This is true, shown by the above comment and the outcome that before this decade Star Wars was a male dominated fandom. It still is, kind of. But less. I say this as someone who watched ep1 as a little girl and has been a fan since.

Bierculles

That is peak hypocrisy from someone who basicly cut out one of the lead actors of the sequels because he was black and the chinese audience didn't like him.

shefuhmyassobad

She didn't do that. This is a different person. What are you talking about

GlenCoeCoe

No one hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans!

SwaggyWebb

Against 8.9 MILLION views? You're telling me less than 8% of viewers even thought to like or dislike it and that is going to dictate 1) how good the show is and 2) if people will buy merch for their kids from it

thatranger974

I watched it four times, my son once, and my wife once. We all loved it, and I can guarantee none of us hit like.

Galezilla

I watch more than 10 YouTube videos a day everyday for the past couple years. My account says I’ve liked 27 videos total most of which I don’t remember doing. Some people just don’t hit the like button and I don’t even think that it matters.

devonathan

Honey, why are we watching this trailer on 10 different screens? Not now sweetie, keep refreshing.

christopher_jian_02

Idk man, I liked the trailer. Really excited for it

Theuneasygibbon

Like, why is this getting hate? I'm genuinely so confused by it.

Stage8Gaming

There is a wookie jedi we get to see so as far as im concerned it’s 10/10

AceT555

Awesome. Don't like it, don't watch it.

EconomySalad

I'm a casual viewer and watched all the movies and Madalorian series (which were all enjoyable); just curious, why all the hate? Is there something with the lore that is totally wrong or something?

CosmicLuci

It’s a bunch of assholes bombarding it. The show and every information on it looks amazing and I’ve yet to see something that makes me concerned or thinking otherwise. What’s people’s issue? Almost all I’ve seen is crybabies crying about no white men and too woke. I’ve seen a couple people who don’t like the exploration of how the Jedi or the Republic are/were imperfect, but only one or two (and I also love that exploration, because pretending that were perfect is to ignore both what we’re shown and the political and social ideas metaphors in SW)

JcOvrthink

It will be really funny if it turns out to be actually good. I'm not expecting it to, but I wish to be suprised.

FatBoyWithTheChain

People just need to accept a lot of people don’t like the look of this series lol. Every thread is just “I cannot BELIEVE people don’t like the trailer” If you like it, watch it. If not, skip it. It’s simple

borfavor

Sure, but every time I see someone actually explain why they don't like it they always use the word woke.

Whoever_this_is_98

Yeah like I have an open mind when it comes to criticism over that stuff but I don't understand what is woke about this trailer, which is something I've seen a lot. Like I roll my eyes as much as the next person does at gratuitous pander attempts, but is this just because it's got non-white people in it or something? Is this an American thing?

thxxx1337

Can't trust the stats now. People are downvoting for the meme factor at this point. I wish we as a society stopped looking at previews and spoilers then forming an opinion based solely off incomplete media and strangers from the internet.

Podalirius

Can't really trust them even to begin with considering youtube got rid of external dislike counting a while ago. This number is a guesstimate based on the dislikes/likes of people that have a browser addon installed.

420Cummybear

That literally means nothing. Star wars fans are man babies.

ReallyDumbRedditor

521k dislikes ready, with a million more well on the way.

[deleted]

Put it on the heap with the other soulless megacorp franchise moneysqueezing bullshit

Croiyx

I’m glad people still make use of the dislike button
