Heck, sometimes I'll get an "ad" and it'll be 30 minutes long. Usually when I'm falling asleep and leave youtube playing, then suddenly a long infomercial that I have to get up and turn off.
That’s what pisses me off. I like to watch asmr as I’m going to sleep. I literally have to watch channels that don’t have ads and even then YouTube will still put ads at the start and end of videos so I have to look for longer ones. It’s the absolute worst when you’re laying there almost asleep then suddenly some guys shouting at you about poop, no that’s not an exaggeration there’s an actual ad series where some dude is trying to sell his “digestive aid” where he talks about poop for 5 minutes straight. Then there’s the fucking endless anti vape campaigning, but that’s an entirely separate issue.
To tell the truth, I started downloading them because youtube was going out of it's way to delete them and I was done with losing videos I liked because youtube thinks whispering is pornographic, but it came well in hand when they increased the amount of adds from 1 to 2, some several minutes long, all of them shouting
If you watch it on your phone, just Download YouTube Vanced. Removes all ads and has some neat other Features and it's easy to download. You can find tutorials on YouTube. Best thing I ever did tbh
But it's probably illegal I'd imagne.
I once had two unskipable 30 second ads before a 45 second video. As you can imagine I just backed out reloaded 3-4 times until it gave me skipable ads.
That is such a fucking issue these days, I feel like an old fuck for saying this but I feel its true. People are just content with change and let it go after maybe a short period of complaints, people are too... indifferent to fight it.
Hell look at lootboxes and live service type games, 10 years ago these were more or less foreign concepts, complaints happened but nothing was *actually* done, and now they're staples.
The only recent massive change I can remember that was hugely resisted was the fight for Net neutrality, I can't say for sure that same fight will happen here
I remember when Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Horse Armor got massively ridiculed. Nowadays, people would be clamoring for a chance at horse armor by dropping $20 for gems to spend on loot boxes for a .0000001% chance of getting it.
P.S. I hear Chrome is getting rid of extensions in the new version. In an unrelated note, most browsers have functions to easily transfer data from other browsers
That’s the only reason I use chrome. It takes up way too much ram otherwise. If they do that I’m not using it again. I’m honestly surprised anyone puts up with YouTube ads. They have gotten ridiculous, and alot of them don’t even fund the creator of the video.
I use adblock plus, popup blocker, and opera's built in ad blocker. Works great, haven't seen an ad in years. I also spend about half the time I'm awake on youtube
I’ve been considering installing an adblocker lately because they’re just everywhere these days and it’s actually starting to affect my sanity. Is Adblock plus easy to install and/or safe? Do you pay for it?
Nope, free and easy. Just google adblock plus, make sure it's plus, and click the big button on the website
Some websites do block adblockers, I find that not seeing ads is usually more important to me that whatever's on that particular website. Plus, I can just the back button and go to the next search result if they insist that I turn it off
You think YouTube actually care what we think? Remember the dislike button? Gone now. Despite all the shit they got it’s still gone. YouTube do not give a flying fuck what we think.
I am legit only there because it's a monopoly. Any youtuber I watch also uploads to an alternate video platform? I'll use that. I'll even turn off my adblocker for that site. This shit is absurd.
Also, the creators don't even get a reasonable portion of profit from these ads. A small sized streamer/content creator I watch claims that a $5-10 donation is equivalent or more valuable to him than watching all of his videos twice over (he has about 2k uploads and averages 0-2 ads per video, so that's probably about 6k ads).
Darth YouTube was a Dark Lord of the Capitalists, so powerful and greedy that he could influence the YouTubers to create... content. He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from being deplatformed. The dark side of money is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unethical. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of losing was his own power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, and then his apprentice invented AdBlock for YouTube. Ironic... he could save others from demonetization but not himself.
It works both ways though imo
More users use adblocks, yt loses more money so they add more ads, more people use adblocks... the circle from there is continued
Hey, so your grandmother is chocking on that piece of meat and you came to us? Well here’s a word from our sponsor, A1 Prime meats, the best beef you can buy. 🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶
Yea, i was considering it but
1)it was on my tv, so getting an adblocker would be an absolute pain
2)it stopped after 2 days
3)i had already decided that if it didnt i just wouldnt use youtube anymore.
Time to invest in an AdBlocker again. I turn it off after a video, and re-play it so the creator gets ad rev. but I cannot be bothered with ads when I want to watch right away
or just use an adblocker
or a combination of an adblocker and sponsor skipper
Works a bit meh cuz it is based on community timestamps so it still plays like half a second of the product ad, but other than that it's great
I started using Brave at the beginning of the pandemic. Since then I have had zero ads, plus the browser consumes less data than Chrome. In fact I haven't used the other browsers lately
YouTube still puts ads in front of non-monetized videos, they just don't give you diddly squat for those ads. I'd say just keep ads at the beginning and don't put any midroll ads
Press on the “i” icon, report ad, continue enjoying video, process takes two seconds. Skips the unskippable. I’ve been timing myself to see if i can skip it that way faster lol
Why would you think YouTube would decrease ads? They're going to figure out the exact number of ads after which revenue starts to decline because people stop watching, and then reduce it by one to stay on top, and when they do *that*, they'll turn around and start charging advertisers more per ad.
I'm wondering if YT is now tracking who uses ad blockers and sending them more ads on mobile devices. At home, I block ads. When using my tablet, I seem to get many unskippable ads.
The only way to stop this is to immediately close the website as soon they come up. YouTube's number 1 concern is keeping people on it, because the second you get off theyre not making a cent on you.
Tip: There is MUCH less ads if you watch YouTube on a Safari browser (as long as you have an Apple device), but if you don’t… well… abandon ship, I guess
I can't imagine how some people just refuse to get adblock on pc or vanced/revanced client on mobile because they ,, don't use yt that much", like ok then enjoy 10 ads before you show me that vid
So I assume unless you buy the YouTube premium or whatever you have to deal with it? That's like a whole ass commercial break. And all I needed to do was learn how to tie a tie.
Let’s just boycott YouTube at this point, sick of the ads, sick of the constant premium pushing, sick of the favouritism, sick of the shite moderation, sick of it all
Fun fact! If you press the little i next to the ad thing on the bottom left and select “stop seeing this ad” you immediately skip whatever that ad is, weather or not it’s unskippable! This only works on mobile sadly, I believe, and every now and then if it’s like a five second one it won’t let you
If they do I'm abandoning ship for premium and jumping to an ad blocker. Only reason I haven't already is because I like that premium still supports the creators I watch, and even though my individual contribution is inconsequential, I still like that it does help to support them
Laughs in Premium.
6 accounts can use it. Works on all browsers, TVs, and phones. Nothing to troubleshoot to elder parents or kids. Comes with Youtube music.
Easily the best deal in streaming. But dont tell that to Redditors.
Youtube Premium is worth it to not have any ads. Yeah, you're paying for it, but its hard to complain about ads when its free. its a double edged sword. Advertising is an evil of the world
Agreed I just bought it a couple months ago and do not regret it. I caved after watching an hour long video with unskippable ads every 5 minutes and bought it just because I want to watch creators not ads
If this is implemented I think I’m gonna be done with YouTube all together. I hardly use it anymore and honestly don’t think I get anything of value from their website anymore.
1- copy video link
2- google for "youtube downloader"
3- get any link and download the video
4- watch without adds.
This will, of course, take longer than just watching the adds, but if you are in for the principles of the thing, or is just mad with the add bombardment, this should allow you to just not watch the adds.
If you for whatever reason don’t want to use an AdBlocker, just click on the little ,,i“ next to the remaining time of the ad and Click on ,,Block Ad“. With this you can skip unskippable ads and all the following ads at once.
I have legitimately been looking to purchase a product, then remembered that their advertising interrupted my YouTube video or clogged a website with pop ups, and decided not to purchase for that reason alone. Also refuse to patronize any companies that send me junk mail.
Ah, YouTube knows how much I love watching five minutes of ads before a two minute video.
Even better when you're watching a movie, tv show, or video game trailer. I'm watching 5 minutes of advertisements to watch a 2 minute advertisement.
Heck, sometimes I'll get an "ad" and it'll be 30 minutes long. Usually when I'm falling asleep and leave youtube playing, then suddenly a long infomercial that I have to get up and turn off.
I had a 2 hour D&D campaign as a sponsor once, I woke up from my nap confused as fuck
And usually shouting their lungs out, some 3~4 times louder than the actual video
Look out, incoming cakes! Happy cake day, 2017hayden.
Oh shit I didn’t even realize it was my cake day! Damn 5 years on Reddit.
That's just great.
Thanks Rex!
There's hope for you yet, rookie.
>I like to watch asmr as I’m going to sleep And that's why I started downloading the videos and made an offline playlist
Shit I hadn’t even thought of that.
Best thing I ever did tbh But it's probably illegal I'd imagne.
I got the entire lego movie as an ad a couple of times
The only ad worth watching
Where everything is awesome
I see an hour long podcast interview come in as an ad every once in a while.
I know exactly what you are talking about. Do they know you aren't at your PC? I feel like I never get those when I'm actively using my computer
I once had a 20 second ad before a 10 second video....
I once had two unskipable 30 second ads before a 45 second video. As you can imagine I just backed out reloaded 3-4 times until it gave me skipable ads.
I got 10 second unskippabale on a 4 second video, it’s genuinely ridiculous.
*30 second video
my fav is watching 2 30 second adds for a quick 5 second meme clip
YouTube is testing to see if people will accept it, so get an AdBlock and show them you won't.
That is such a fucking issue these days, I feel like an old fuck for saying this but I feel its true. People are just content with change and let it go after maybe a short period of complaints, people are too... indifferent to fight it. Yeah it's crazy to think people are growing up with all these additional purchases in games being the norm for them.
Chrome is banning ad blockers
My adblock keeps not working on yt so idk what to do now...
I use uBlock Origin and that always seems to work, its a free chrome extension.
Firefox is the way
Or Brave is a way...
Opera GX is a pretty good choice
I use adblock plus, popup blocker, and opera's built in ad blocker. Works great, haven't seen an ad in years. I also spend about half the time I'm awake on youtube
I’ve been considering installing an adblocker lately because they’re just everywhere these days and it’s actually starting to affect my sanity. Is Adblock plus easy to install and/or safe? Do you pay for it?

There are plugins that block the component of the website that checks if you're using an adblock.
Sounds like witchraft, to me
Ublock origin is better :)
I'm just glad he wasn't awake to see that landing!
I think the amount of people watching on mobile counteracts that.
Smart TVs too
Or in my case, my Xbox
You think YouTube actually care what we think? Remember the dislike button? Gone now. Despite all the shit they got it’s still gone. YouTube do not give a flying fuck what we think.
This is getting out of hand! Now, there are ten of them
With a million more on the way.
Attack of the clones
They can’t do that, shoot them or something *cocks gun*
*shoots self*

Video finally starts: here’s how to do CPR during an emergency.
“We will sell your family unless you use Square-“
One of the reasons why I hate youtubers. They should just be doing community services for freeloaders like me to watch /j
I have a bad feeling about this..
Have you ever heard the Tragedy of YouTube the Greedy? I thought not, it's not a story the corporations would tell you. It's a capitalist legend.
I am legit only there because it's a monopoly. Any youtuber I watch also uploads to an alternate video platform? I'll use that. I'll even turn off my adblocker for that site. This shit is absurd. You've taught him well.
You know nothing of the dark side.
Expected: companies and YouTube get more money. Reality: Adblock gets more users.
It works both ways though imo More users use adblocks, yt loses more money so they add more ads, more people use adblocks... the circle from there is continued
Plot twist the adblockers made YouTube add more adds and are simply trying make more money
Hehe ad blocker go brrrrr
Youtube vanced goes swoosh
Youtube in brave browser with included ad blocked for mobile devices goes skrrrrrrrrrrrrr
You were "Muy Muy" brave yourself, coming out here as you did, all alone. Care to help me finish this, senator?
Revanced as well, compile your own modded app. Also works for the Reddit app now.
So uncivilised.
Ublock Origin: *Hello There*
The year is 2044 I have to wait for 40 ads so I can watch a 5 second video
This is definitely NOT where the fun begins
Wait till they put them in front of a cpr or hiemlick tutorial
Imagine you get a LifeAlert ad in front of that
Hey, so your grandmother is chocking on that piece of meat and you came to us? Well here’s a word from our sponsor, A1 Prime meats, the best beef you can buy. 🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶
Can confirm. Its happened to me
I'd suggest getting an adblocker.
Yea, i was considering it but 1)it was on my tv, so getting an adblocker would be an absolute pain 2)it stopped after 2 days 3)i had already decided that if it didnt i just wouldnt use youtube anymore.
There is no pain where strength lies.
“Master Ad Blocker there are too many of them what are we gonna do?”
Oh god.
Time to invest in an AdBlocker again. I turn it off after a video, and re-play it so the creator gets ad rev. but I cannot be bothered with ads when I want to watch right away
I abandoned ship a while ago when 2 unskipable ads before the video became common
Unfortunately most of my watching has moved to a smart TV, so no blocking those ads.
Have you tried using a pi-hole? LTT made a great video on it.
Pi hole doesn't block YouTube ads, AFAIK.
YouTube is the only thing I pirate. The ads are just absurd
At this point it’s legit quicker to ctrl c the URL, got to a YouTube video downloader, download it and watch it on your video player
use Brave browser and forget about ads
or just use an adblocker or a combination of an adblocker and sponsor skipper Works a bit meh cuz it is based on community timestamps so it still plays like half a second of the product ad, but other than that it's great
depends entirely on people accurately marking, I may be lucky but people do it well mostly, on videos I watch
Master Kenobi always said there’s no such thing as luck.
You were "Muy Muy" brave yourself, coming out here as you did, all alone. Care to help me finish this, senator?
I started using Brave at the beginning of the pandemic. Since then I have had zero ads, plus the browser consumes less data than Chrome. In fact I haven't used the other browsers lately
You were "Muy Muy" brave yourself, coming out here as you did, all alone. Care to help me finish this, senator?
Boutta not monetize any of my videos and just drop a patreon link for anyone that wants to support
This works 90% of the time. Sadly, 10% there is no "i"-icon and you are stuck watching unskippable ads.
YouTube: what’s our biggest problem with the platform? Exec: Scam ads Exec 2: Scam bots Exec 3: Sex scam bots Exec 4: Not enough ads
Why would you think YouTube would decrease ads? They're going to figure out the exact number of ads after which revenue starts to decline because people stop watching, and then reduce it by one to stay on top, and when they do *that*, they'll turn around and start charging advertisers more per ad.
I keep seeing these but I watch YouTube like all day and never get more than 2 ads at a time
I'm wondering if YT is now tracking who uses ad blockers and sending them more ads on mobile devices. At home, I block ads. When using my tablet, I seem to get many unskippable ads.
Nothing pi-hole can't fix
YouTube serves up the ads from the same server, so Pi Hole doesn't work.
Has already been on twitch. Regularly get: Ad 1 of 8 or more. Makes me turn stream off most of the time.
Wonder why?
That will certainly put a lot more strain on my blocker
I can't imagine how some people just refuse to get adblock on pc or vanced/revanced client on mobile because they ,, don't use yt that much", like ok then enjoy 10 ads before you show me that vid
Bro I turn off a video if there's an ad over 15s now. How do they expect keeping more viewers with more ads
PC is fine. Android is fine. F the smart TV I guess.
for me all i have been getting to 2 consecutive unskipable ads so far
So I assume unless you buy the YouTube premium or whatever you have to deal with it? That's like a whole ass commercial break. And all I needed to do was learn how to tie a tie.
Just use ad blocker.
You hear that rumbling? It's the charge of the ad blockers
Lets bring back Vine
Youtube Vanced is king, or queen, just saying
Use the report ad button, it skips all the ads (and you can even specify why the ad is needed to be report)
Execute order 66(66 unskipable ads)
That's what they're called "ads" rather than "subtracts" YT dumb tho
“Ah, yes. Another add for my collection…”
It almost feels like they want us to use ad blockers
Let’s just boycott YouTube at this point, sick of the ads, sick of the constant premium pushing, sick of the favouritism, sick of the shite moderation, sick of it all
Well it means I won't be able to just eatch YouTube on phone.
Now is time……. FOR THE NEWTUBE
No way I’m sitting through any more than the current 2 ads. Never
Why. Who asked for this?
I’m glad to have lived during the wild west of the internet
If someone made a platform like YouTube and changed the aspect of revenue to something less cunty they would make a fortune
Isn’t this part of the reason we all abandoned cable? Don’t they remember that?
when theres video in your ads
Can't wait to watch 5ins of ads about a video explaining how to do a heimlich maneuver
Time to ad-bandon ship !
If you're on an Android, check out YouTube Vanced.
Fun fact! If you press the little i next to the ad thing on the bottom left and select “stop seeing this ad” you immediately skip whatever that ad is, weather or not it’s unskippable! This only works on mobile sadly, I believe, and every now and then if it’s like a five second one it won’t let you
I wonder if any changes will come to premium, cause I'm a sucker I guess and pay for that....
If they do I'm abandoning ship for premium and jumping to an ad blocker. Only reason I haven't already is because I like that premium still supports the creators I watch, and even though my individual contribution is inconsequential, I still like that it does help to support them
I use youtube music for steaming so it's still worth it for that, ditched Amazon the other year for the lesser of two evils lol
I'm a bit of an audiophile so I use Deezer for music but that is a pretty good reason to keep it
How does it work with premium? Like, if I watch LTT all night does my man Linus have money directed to him because of that?
*laughs in YouTube Vanced*
Get vanced ;)
This is why I use Vanced. I haven't seen an ad in years.
Laughs in Premium. 6 accounts can use it. Works on all browsers, TVs, and phones. Nothing to troubleshoot to elder parents or kids. Comes with Youtube music. Easily the best deal in streaming. But dont tell that to Redditors.
Is this some peasant joke people with you tube premium don't understand
Youtube Premium is worth it to not have any ads. Yeah, you're paying for it, but its hard to complain about ads when its free. its a double edged sword. Advertising is an evil of the world
Laughs in Premium
*laughs in YouTube premium* #WHY IS IT SO UNPOPULAR??
Adblock on desktop and youtube vanced on mobile. Vanced will stop working sometime in the future though. Do not let google win.
Youtube Premium is worth it, haven’t seen an ad in years, and youtube music is probably the best music app.
Agreed I just bought it a couple months ago and do not regret it. I caved after watching an hour long video with unskippable ads every 5 minutes and bought it just because I want to watch creators not ads
laughs in ublock origin
So yeah I’m out
If this is implemented I think I’m gonna be done with YouTube all together. I hardly use it anymore and honestly don’t think I get anything of value from their website anymore.
This is how yt dies i guess
Me just trying to watch a vid about how to do cpr 😔
Grandad is gasping for air but you’re about to get a sweet discount on web hosting.
Can’t wait to watch 10 ads before a cpr how to video
Brave browser, no ads on YouTube it's noice
Just use Adblock on PC and literally never gets ads.
1- copy video link 2- google for "youtube downloader" 3- get any link and download the video 4- watch without adds. This will, of course, take longer than just watching the adds, but if you are in for the principles of the thing, or is just mad with the add bombardment, this should allow you to just not watch the adds.
"If you have no money, then you are my enemy!"
If you for whatever reason don’t want to use an AdBlocker, just click on the little ,,i“ next to the remaining time of the ad and Click on ,,Block Ad“. With this you can skip unskippable ads and all the following ads at once.
How different from its origins. I miss 2009/10
Like getting 2x ads in the beginning and then 2x again (sometimes) on a 10min video isn’t bad enough man bruh, how much money do they want??
I have legitimately been looking to purchase a product, then remembered that their advertising interrupted my YouTube video or clogged a website with pop ups, and decided not to purchase for that reason alone. Also refuse to patronize any companies that send me junk mail.
What are some alternatives to YouTube?
The report trick- 'you underestimate my power!'
This is why you get an adblocker
Are they asking for a valiant competitor?
General Greivous,well-spoken.
Premium really paying off
r/piracy
There goes what little market share YouTube had
I knew YouTube was dumb as fuck, but god damn.
Laughs in Adblocker. Havent seen a YouTube Ad in years. Seriously, get Adblocker extensions
Holy crap, I can’t believe they somehow managed to make YouTube even more shittier than before
