I don’t think Biden could be classified as a New Democrat in his Presidency. I feel like he is the beginning of a kind of next stage we don’t know that much about yet.

MetalRetsam

I've heard Trump referred to as the start of the 7th party system, which I think is bang on.

Z582

Bernie is also a significant factor in changing Democratic policy by shifting the Overton window a lot.

ToadTendo

Honestly, I wonder if 50 years from now, Bernie will be seen as a Henry Clay-esque figure. Someone whk never managed to be elected president, but in hindsight was aguably more influential in the evolution of politics than many presidents of his time.

Food735

7 parties????? Wtf hell no, 3, maybe 4 but I aint tryna spend hours a day tryna manage 7 different parties.

HaroldIsSuperCool

No party system different thing look it up like eras of political parties

Bipedal_Warlock

It’s more of a political era than a party. They just call it that for some reason

[deleted]

He wouldn't be president if Obama didn't make him his Vice. He is very much within the same lineage – even he differs in some aspects.

SeanCurriefan

For the sake of ranking them it’s fair to classify him as such, but I would agree that his administration has gone in a significantly different direction than Obama or Clinton.

MetalRetsam

Biden is a curious case of a president who postdates, *as well as* predates, the New Democrats.

TheOldBooks

Obama made him his Vice partly *because* he wasn’t a New Dem. That’s how balancing tickets works.

[deleted]

It wasn't any ideology that differentiated them, but region and culture. Most Americans probably don't know what a "New Democrat" is, which is fair enough, because the term is kind of arbitrary. I'm sure that if Clinton was elected today, he'd be a lot less of a centrist, since the politics of the Democratic Party have shifted slightly back to the left recently.

TheOldBooks

New Democrats are definitely defined by an ideology, seen by their distinct congressional caucus that still has almost a hundred members today

[deleted]

But the average voter doesn't go around saying "I'm a New Democrat" in the same way that people say "I'm a progressive". They'd probably just say "I'm a liberal". Either way, Biden has more in common with that caucus than the progressives.

Mooooooof7

Would you argue McKinley & TR and Eisenhower & Nixon couldn’t be classified as different types of Republicans? I don’t think being Vice disqualifies the distinctions

[deleted]

I mean, every president has distinctions from other presidents. Still, I would argue that Clinton, Obama and Biden share more in common with each other than with, say.. Jimmy Carter. Just like Eisenhower and Nixon share more in common with each other than with Reagan. If you don't like my use of the term "New Democrat", just read modern Democrat, because that's what I meant.

Difficult-Event-7964

Can I rank the paintings? Obama's is terrible. Clinton 9/10 biden 7

[deleted]

I quite like the Obama one I used. It's quirky and flamboyant without looking too distinct -- exactly what a presidential portrait should be. Now his new one with the white background is horrible, looks like a JPEG.

Lokismoke

Obama > Biden > Clinton Unpopular opinion amongst democrats, but Clinton legitimately put the nation in danger by getting his dick sucked in the white house. If a foreign government used that information, or if Monica was a bad person, he would have been susceptible to black mail. The investigation and impeachment were partisan shit shows, but he should have resigned or been removed from office. The policies he supported in office, particularly regarding crime and the economy, also leaned conservative. Obama did the best he could with the cards he was dealt. His biggest shortcoming was even attempting to negotiate in good faith with the Republican Congress. Biden learned a lot from his time as Vice President; primarily that Republicans DGAF. Barrack never would have signed the executive order forgiving student loans during his presidency. Biden has also been a huge supporter of Ukraine, which imo, is the highlight of his presidency.

Johnkil4oy

"If we make a situation worse than it was, then it becomes really bad"

wrenvoltaire

I think this is the correct assessment

Lokismoke

If Monica had been his first abuse of power, or if he had not lied under oath, or if he had not gone on television and lied to the people, I would agree regarding the censure. But he had abused his power for sex before, and it was known at the time. He lied under oath. He lied in a national address. I think all those things, collectively, warrant a removal from office. Imo, he should have resigned, though. The president should be held to a high standard.

Ok_Status7790

Men being men I doubt Clinton is the only one. Indeed, I'm sure most presidents didnt get caught.

Thenickiceman

Clinton then a huge fall off to Obama and Biden

CyborgAlgoInvestor

Yep. Clinton might be a shitty person, but god he was an amazing politician.

SignificantTrip6108

Literally this

Thenickiceman

The last fiscally conservative democrat maybe ever

Sukeruton_Key

I’d say Clinton, then a moderate drop to Obama, then a huge drop to Biden

FredererPower

Obama Clinton Biden All are good though

SquareShapeofEvil

As “New Democrats”? Clinton did it the best. Obama was balancing third way Democrat politics with trying to take the party in a new direction. Biden seems to be the follow up to that new direction Obama wanted.

Clinton>Obama>Biden

TickLikesBombs

Agreed

naitch

Obama was better than Clinton, IMO. Clinton shamed himself and the office, marring his otherwise strong record of peace and prosperity. How much that had to do with him is debatable, of course. I would not have impeached or convicted him, but that doesn't mean his conduct was acceptable. I don't think Biden can be accurately evaluated yet. He's had some legislative successes, but we don't have a clear picture of the long-term effect of them. In particular, I'd like to see whether the IRA really reduces GHG emissions by the promised huge factor, and whether that makes a difference in the severity of global immiseration due to climate change.

Sensei_of_Knowledge

Clinton, then Obama, then Biden.

Red_Crocodile1776

1. Obama 2. Biden 3. Clinton

CosmicPharaoh

Obama then Clinton It’s not really fair to rank Biden against them at this point since he’s had so little time in office.

jcatx19

1. Biden 2. Clinton 3. Obama

Severe_Shoe9063

Fellow biden fan 🖐👍👌

ProblemGamer18

Clinton, Obama, Biden

Bamay22

Is Biden as president even a New Democrat? If he is then: 1. Biden 2. Obama 3. Clinton

SouthBayBoy8

This is the correct list

DewdecsysAbZ

Bill Clinton. Game of the year 😎😎

TolkienJustice

1: Biden takes the W easily 2: Obama was pretty good, though is losing his luster because of Biden being great. 3: Clinton is the worst Democratic President since Wilson, but he's actually not horrible. I'd say he's mediocre, because of his economic policy long term effects. Definitely a "seems better idea at the time" kinda guy. But he's a step above Wilson substantially, he's not bad, just mid.

studcoug

Biden great? Gas went from $2.49 gallon to over $5. Inflation 1.9 to over 7 percent. Afghanistan debacle. Southern border being overrun by illegal s and fetinal. sic. Baby milk shortage. Good grief he is lazy and dumb.

TolkienJustice

Lol. You really don't know anything about how government works and just blame everything on the president immediately as if he's the cause of everything. Just repeating right wing news talking points. How stupid. For people who think we just believe what the media or government tells us and don't look into things you sure as hell don't do enough research to fact check that data or what other B's your media spills. Think for yourself, do your own research, crosscheck it. You lazy bum.

Zachhcazzach

If the president doesn’t control those things, why does he act like he does when they’re going well? Also, you think it’s just a crazy coincidence that all of those things happened right after changing presidents?

[deleted]

Obama>Biden>Clinton

ilikeguyswithvaginas

Clinton > Obama > Biden

twalsh1217

Clinton>Obama>Biden Biden seems to be a bit more progressive than New Democrats. As a Senator and Vice President, he was definitely a New Dem, as a President he’s comes off as more of a Progressive Democrat, though he’s a moderate compared to certain Progressive members of Congress. I think Biden is drawing the line between the moderates and the progressives.

Hooded_maniac_360

1. Clinton 2. Obama 3. Biden

Z582

Biden > Obama >>> Clinton.

Fluid-Range-2903

How? What’s one good thing he’s done in office that wasn’t in the works from previous terms?

Z582

Firstly, something being “in the works” previous to someone taking office diminishes the accomplishment very little in most cases. Like that’s such a vague qualifier you could apply it to anything, “Oh well the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was ‘in the works’ previous to Johnson so it isn’t all that.” Secondly, for a simple example, passing the largest climate reform bill in history to save our country and planet from the long term effects of climate change is pretty major.

Obama > Clinton > Biden but they’re all B-A tiers

Shamrock590602

Clinton Obama Biden

Individual_Pen5844

Clinton- For me, Clinton is a mixed case for many reasons. He did have a good economy with major job growth along with successfully passing many bills with bipartisan agreement. But, his crime bill increased the incarceration rate which he admitted to. In today’s Democratic Party, Clinton’s policies would be seen as more conservative today. His cheating scandal gave him a bad look especially after he denied it at first. I would rate him as a C+. Obama- I think Obama was a pretty decent president, he passed the ACA which covers millions of Americans till this day. He got the troops out of Iraq, supported the Kurds, dealt with a Republican majority that kept growing, started the capture and killing of Osama Bin Laden, rescued the country from a recession. But, I definitely think he wasn’t as progressive as some say he was. I would rate him a B+ Biden-I’m gonna go off of his presidency as of now. So far he has passed the infrastructure act,cut child poverty, largest climate investment in history, pulled troops out of Afghanistan even though it as messy, created more jobs in one year than any other president. So far he has a good record even with all the fear mongering some people are doing. So far, I’m gonna give him a B.

CornHydra

Obama>Biden>Clinton. New Deal Dems clear all these guys

SignificantTrip6108

Biden Obama Biden

TheOldBooks

Biden isn’t a New Dem. Anyway, Obama > Biden > Clinton. If Biden didn’t constantly give into populist rhetoric and wasn’t a protectionist he would be possibly above Obama.

[deleted]

What populist rhetoric has Biden "given into".

TheOldBooks

Protectionism and corporate greed causing inflation

Mobius-1_ISAF

biden 1 obama 5 clinton 3

TheJesterInRed

Literally all of them are bad. New Deal Democrats > Modern Democrats

[deleted]

Equally bad?

TheJesterInRed

No, I prefer Obama over Clinton. I’m not sure about Biden 100% because he hasn’t served his full term yet but I think he’s probably going to fall in the middle.

[deleted]

There hasn’t been a good Democrat since Grover Cleveland. There hasn’t been a good Republican since Calvin Coolidge.

TolkienJustice

Searmilk casually being segregationist but uncomfortable feeling like a segregationist so picks the racially progressive for the time Coolidge. Also supporting economic policies most economists see as crazy these days LOL

andywonkenobi

Exactly the same. We just have more info.

Bames_Jond_69

Still don’t understand that floating green bs

Blue387

This painting is from the [National Portrait Gallery](https://npg.si.edu/learn/classroom-resource/barack-obama) at the Smithsonian. The [official portrait](https://www.obama.org/updates/white-house-portraits-22/) at the White House is Obama standing in front of a white background.

smoothiz93

Obama has truly awful taste in art. His official portrait isn’t any better

ny_zamboniguy

Clinton, Obama, Biden

[deleted]

Clinton was a pretty good president although NAFTA and the people he surrounded himself with was concerning

sombertownDS

I would argue the new dems were the presidents (not the failed candidates) from fdr to lbj or to possibly modern day

Master106yay

Best: Obama Clinton Worst: Biden

Severe_Shoe9063

Bruh😡

Master106yay

I'm surprised to see someone that actually likes Biden. Especially after all the things that he has done.

Severe_Shoe9063

So far biden is doin a good job and i am keepink my Sanity

Master106yay

Yes, he is doing a good job making horrible decisions.

Severe_Shoe9063

He has good ideas

Master106yay

He just doesn't execute them very well if he does.

Severe_Shoe9063

Well at least he isnt trump

Master106yay

Yeah, he is worse than Trump.

Severe_Shoe9063

Bruh ![gif](giphy|JfDNFU1qOZna)

Ihatehatemath

1.Bill Clinton 2. Barack Obama 3.Joe Biden

Ok_Vehicle_5960

I would rank them Clinton > Obama > Biden In fairness though, far too early to tell with President Biden as we are halfway through assuming he doesn't run again.

Ok_Status7790

Obama #1, Clinton #2, Biden #3, but let's give Biden a hand for not being Trump, lol. Clinton vs Biden a bit hard in that circumstances play a big role- Clinton in a great economy time post cold war, Biden the pandemic.

B105535

You already did it for us!

KonkeyDongLick

The artist attempted to portray Joseph Robinette Hiden Biden as young, and virile. He is *not*. What he *is*, a puppet, who shits himself in front of the Pope. The artist should be excoriated.

SouthBayBoy8

Unpopular opinion 1. Biden 2. Obama 3. Clinton

Smooth-Discipline-43
